Decentralised ventilation system with soundproof pipe - Looking from resources, boards, subreddits Posted: 30 May 2020 07:43 PM PDT I want to provide clean air from outside to a room, without opening the window. So, there are decentralised ventilation systems with integrated soundproofing elements in the pipe. I'm curious on how effective the soundproofing in the pipe actually is and if it's possible to build it yourself? Being able to deliver constantly fresh air to a room is very intriguing and Im desperately searching for forums or websites or subreddits on the topic. HA, was the closest I know of and I hope the question won't get downvoted into oblivion. [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 May 2020 08:19 PM PDT My outdoor water feature holds about 2 gallons of water. In the summer that can evaporate quickly. I'm looking for a smart water level monitor that can detect when it's below a certain level and either 1. Shut the pump off via smart plug or 2. Fill the tank via smart valve. I have SmartThings and HomeKit. [link] [comments]
Any cheap but “does the job” outdoor smart plugs? (Alexa compatible) Posted: 30 May 2020 09:40 PM PDT Wife has just put up some fairy lights on out back deck and it's a pain to have to go out and unplug every time. Would ideally like to get a smart plug that can be outside so they switch off on a timer or bedtime routine, etc. any ideas? [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 May 2020 08:06 PM PDT I'm a bit disgruntled that all the reviews show them plugging it into the wall, and mine came with a motor with bare wires. On top of that, the wires are different colors than the ones on their website, so it's not quite as simple as buying my own plug and wiring it up myself. I sent them a reply to an earlier pre-sale response they gave, as well as sent a new email and a message through their website messaging system over the last week with no reply. Has anyone else bought the Zigbee version and wired it up successfully? Also, any secrets to get a reply out of them? I'd like to buy another track, but the lack of communication is disconcerting. Posted: 30 May 2020 10:46 PM PDT Looking for sengled zigbee bulbs. But need for b-10 instead of A-19, do they make these? [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 May 2020 10:44 PM PDT I am trying to find an automatic smart door closer that is compatible with things like Alexa. That way I can say "Alexa, open my door" or "Alexa, close my door". I'm not sure if this exists, I've searched around and haven't found much. I was wondering if you guys would know if this is a thing or not. Thanks! :) [link] [comments]
Is there any way to turn on a light switch dependent on another light switch? Posted: 30 May 2020 10:32 PM PDT In my bathroom, there's 2 light switches. One for the vanity lights and the other for ceiling. Is there any way to make it so I only flick one of the switches and they are both synchronized to turn on together? [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 May 2020 05:52 PM PDT I use smartthings as my main hub and automation platform. Although I have about 40 devices connected, I really don't have that many automations, routines, etc. I do use Webcore for some sime things that smartthings cannot do and also Alexa for voice assistant. There was a period when smartthing stopped supporting SMS messaging for a while and I didn't think much of it because I typically just used push notices from the app. When I turned SMS back on for ST I started getting text notifications again.. Oddly some of them are from old automations. Like I had one that sent me a text if the garage door was open over a certain period of time. I have no current automation, routine or piston anywhere to send this. I used to but must have gotten rid of it at some point. It appears to be coming from ST. Any idea of how to track this down and find out where it's coming from? [link] [comments]
Alternative to IFTTT and a Nest E Posted: 30 May 2020 05:35 PM PDT Since Google locked down their Nest products so that they don't work with IFTTT, are there any alternatives to being able to control a simple dumb window A/C unit using the Nest E temperature reading and a smart plug? Posted: 30 May 2020 10:09 AM PDT I have a cunning plan... The kitchen has quite a few things that sound alarms: oven, hobs, microwave, fridge and freezer open door alarms, washing machine finishing etc. I have a microphone component board and esp01s wifi board, and I run home assistant on a raspberry pi, hooked up to Alexa. So... I am thinking of recording a series of audio files with the alarms all going off multiple times. Then use machine learning in AWS or GCP to learn to recognise each alarm. Then I can take that code and run it on the raspberry pi, listening to the audio stream and, when it recognises a given sound, it can trigger Alexa to say "Oven alarm" for example. I may need a 2nd pi though, because of the load on continually listening and interpreting the audio. Had anyone had any full or partial successes (or failures!) in trying to do something like this? Anything that can give me a few pointers to help would be useful. I will share here if and when I give it a go, if people are interested. [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 May 2020 07:22 AM PDT Hey all, I am running home automation without a hub. Amazon Alexa runs everything on the network. I just saw a post about the coolest things that people have automated. I'm jealous. Considering I would like to automate occupancy, temperature, door open, etc., which sensors does everyone recommend, and which brand? I'm sticking with Alexa, so unless a quick hub changeover is easy, I am asking just for recommendations that work with the Alexa system. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Has anyone used libpurecoollink (Python library) for Dyson fan automation? Posted: 30 May 2020 12:34 PM PDT I'm getting 401 response errors and I was wondering if any knew if the endpoints had changed? [link] [comments]
Need help in a decision to install home automation on this or not Posted: 30 May 2020 12:04 PM PDT Hello All , I have looking around pi4 , NUCs and all, but my friend has given me his old unused laptop. Wondering why not I should use it instead of buying external hardware? I want to install OpenHab, piHole,ELK, etc. Something so far I noticed and need your help

HUSBZB-1 stick not coming up in Home Assistant on Ubuntu box? Posted: 30 May 2020 10:11 AM PDT I got my GoControl HUSBZB-1 stick yesterday, and plugged it into a desktop Linux system. I installed Home Assistant on this machine, and it also kind of my house NAS. Anyway, when I plug it in, I can see the stick show up in dmesg. I can see it come up as /dev/ttyUSB0 and /dev/ttyUSB1. That seems fine. Based on what I could see online, I edit 'configuration.yaml' and add: When HA comes up, one of the notifications says: "The following components can't be set up, device, platform, zwave." Maybe it's some kind of permission thing? [link] [comments]
options to remotely turn on/off an appliance... Posted: 30 May 2020 09:31 AM PDT please help - i'm researching ... and want to ask you - what are my options to remotely turn on/off an appliance? I'd want to be able to reboot my server if need be I think PSU is 280 Watts (it's Lenovo ThinkServer TS140) so I guess I could do it via WiFi from another laptop that's running at the location 24/7 - but would like to avoid that... LED lights not fully off with Lutron Caseta Dimmer Switch? Posted: 30 May 2020 05:58 AM PDT Hi all, I recently moved into a new apartment (renting) , and decided I wanted to have the recessed LED ceiling lights in my livingroom to be dimmable, as well as smart. I decided to go with Lutron Caseta, and installation was nice and easy. My only issue is that when I click the 'off' button on the switch, the lights turn off for the most part, but there is a ever so small dim light that still emits from the LED lights. They're actually not noticeable unless you look right at them, so for all intents and purposes, they're off and I'm kind of okay with it, but it's not ideal and I'm looking to see if there is anything I can do to remedy this. I'm actually not sure of the wattage / voltage of the LED lights in the ceiling, although I guess I could pull one down and look at it? Also, I'm wondering what kind of power draw this tiny amount of light pulls, and if it will negatively effect my power bill ? Also, I'm now noticing that the ceiling light in my hallway that I have NOT installed a smart switch to does also have a small dim light even when off.... I'm considering putting the dumb switch back on that seeing if they still emit a dim, and the management company just didn't notice when doing the installation before I moved in. Slightly tedious though, and I'd rather not now that its installed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Edit: If the dimmer switch bleeds a 5mA current through it (a spec I read somewhere), that will only cost me 7 cents a month which I think I'm okay with 😅 Edit: I do not have a neutral wire, which is why I went with the non-pro Lutron Caseta [link] [comments] |
