Can I Connect 2 different LED strip light brands together? Posted: 08 Jul 2020 11:23 PM PDT Okay so I recently bought these RGB LED lights and I put them on already and now I want to finish going around my room, so I was wondering if I could get like a different brand of lights and connect them and if they would work? https://www.amazon.com/Waterproof%EF%BC%8CRGB-Flexible-Bedroom-Changing-Kitchen/dp/B0814J8D88 [link] [comments]

Sonoff TH16 alternative that plugs into the wall? Posted: 08 Jul 2020 10:33 PM PDT I like everything about this product besides the fact it's hard wired. I like it supports Google home, IFTTT, it's $20, and it's WiFi rather than zwave/ZigBee. Is there another product like this that meets the above criteria that either plug directly into the wall or battery powered? [link] [comments]
Detect when Gas is flowing to Range for Automations Posted: 08 Jul 2020 09:21 PM PDT Sometimes when I'm cooking, I'll produce a ton of heat (imagine boling Ramen broth for 8 hours for example). This means I'm pumping a lot of heat into the house, which makes the AC work overtime competing with the kitchen. I use Home Assistant to control my thermostat and I'd like to have a way to detect if the range is running to run a modified AC cycle that isn't as aggressive as my normal mode. My thoughts went to installing a Flow Meter on the gas line that feeds the range but I don't know if it is possible (legally and technically). I'm also open to other ideas for detection. Has anyone figured out a way to do this? [link] [comments]
IOT wall plug that monitors voltage & frequency (and anything else)? Posted: 08 Jul 2020 08:57 PM PDT I'd really like a wall plug device that is as small as possible and provides a sensor interface for voltage & frequency over wifi, does that exist anywhere? Ideally, it'd also have a temperature & humidity sensor, or whatever else is available (motion could be useful as well...). [link] [comments]
Looking for a wireless light switch in the UK Posted: 08 Jul 2020 07:08 PM PDT Hi gents, The problem I am facing is I have a couple of rooms where the light switch is on the wrong side of the room. I don't particularly fancy having an electrician demolish my ceiling and my walls to run wires to a new switch across the room. I am seriously considering Philips hue as it seems to be a tried and tested system. I could install smart bulbs and put a battery powered dimmer near the entrance of the rooms. It sounds good but it's rather expensive and I'm limited in the choice of bulbs I can buy. That being said I keep coming across videos and articles raving about Lutron Casetta and Pico switches. Basically I could hardwire a switch where my existing one is and put another wireless one anywhere I want. Sounds great except they're all in America and I'm not sure how they would work in the UK. Has anyone installed them in the UK? Any issues? Do you have any other options for me that I should consider? I'm all ears. [link] [comments]

Looking for an IoT devices, don't know if it exists Posted: 08 Jul 2020 02:23 PM PDT I'm looking for a thin piece of hardware, smaller than a credit card (Sort of like Tile size). My plan is to put them in my wallet or stick it on the back of my phone What I need these to do is sense the distance (preferably up to 25 feet) between one tag to another and read it to me. Is there something programmable that exists like this? Please send a link if you can! I'm not too experienced in the hardware world of home automation [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Jul 2020 08:59 AM PDT My current setup: Nest/Google: Non-Nest/Google devices: Other WiFi connected devices: As you can see I've gotten away without a hub until now. Debating whether to order the SmartThings hub and water leak sensor or find a WiFi water leak sensor. Is there any benefit to me adding SmartThings to the mix? I believe it doesn't play with Google/Nest, although I guess it will allow me to start adding any Zigbee/Z-Wave devices I want to add.... Curious to get your thoughts. Thanks! [link] [comments]
b-hyve sprinkler - reboot loop on joining wireless - solved Posted: 08 Jul 2020 04:42 PM PDT Day 1: Find my existing rainbird is dead, 30volts on all connected points. Neighbors have b-hyve, I go pick one up. Replace old unit, download app, begin wireless config. Wireless errors out, lose connection with app, start again, same thing, 4th time b-hyve starts to reboot in 5 second intervals. Power down, remove backup battery, pat my head and rub my belly, not enough time to hard reset. Stop messing around with it, do carpentry instead and drink beer. Day 2: Exchange the unit for same model . Sit down at my desk, start config, same problem. Drive back, pick up 12 node unit. Back at my desk, start process, same problem. Think, drink coffee. Stare at my wireless AP. Turn it off. Reboot cycle stops. Hard reset, turn AP back on, try to connect to wireless, same loop begins. Specify security settings in app, same thing. Change security to WEP, remove security, change channel, same thing. Everything meets recommended specs on b-hyve troubleshooting guide. Change last variable, speed on wireless from 54mb/s to 289mb/s and successfully join the wireless network. Clouds part, sun shines down, angels sing. Why does orbit need more than 54mb/s on the b-hyve. Why is it checking for speed. Is it a proxy for something else? [link] [comments]
Logitech Harmony integration with iOS Posted: 08 Jul 2020 04:09 PM PDT I'm contemplating purchasing a Logitech Harmony Hub and I'm wording if I can do the following with it? Scenario A 1- Turn on my stereo receiver (Yamaha NR-602) and select line-in input 2- I want to be able to control the volume using my iOS device Scenario B 1- Turn on my LG TV 2- If stereo receiver is already turned on, change the input to (optical), if it's turned off, first turn it on, and then select the optical input. I have a few general questions: 1- I don't want to use physical Harmony remote, but rather iOS app. Is that possible? 2- Can I create a shortcut, for the above automation, to be able to do it on my iPhone homescreeb, rather than going to the remote App 3- Can I integrate these scenes with HomeKit 4- I see that Harmony app has very low rating on App Store. What's your experience? My most use for the app would be changing my receiver's volume. How fast and effective the app is? 5- I'm not sure if I'm understating this correctly; should I place the hub somewhere in front of my TV and Receiver to send the IR signal to them? Is there a way to control specific devices with Google Assistant + Harmony? Posted: 08 Jul 2020 05:24 AM PDT I got activities to work. I can tell google to turn on NVIDIA Shield, PS4 or Watch TV etc. because these are all activities. But I leave my AV receiver running all the time so it's ready to go when I start playing a song on my phone. However, I want to turn off or turn on the AVR when telling google "goodnight" or "goodmorning", since I would never use the AVR when I'm asleep. When linking Harmony to Google Assistant, I could only find how to enable commands for activities. Is there a way to control a specific device like the AVR? Maybe some workaround? EDIT: Found a workaround, you can turn off the receiver via the HEOS app (if you have a Denon AVR) and you can link HEOS to your Google Home. So I turn it off via HEOS and I turn it on via Harmony by adding an activity that only turns on the AVR. [link] [comments]
Tie in string lights to use with HomeSeer dimmer switch? Posted: 08 Jul 2020 03:02 PM PDT I recently purchased some outdoor dimmable LED string lights, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to control the dimmer. Just outside of my sliding door on the bottom right is an outdoor outlet, and directly above that by about 5 ft is our current outdoor light fixture. The fixture is controlled by the indoor switch, which is currently the HS-WD200+. Is there any way to tie these lights in to be controlled by the current switch? Is the best option to just put a smart outlet outside and control by that? Curious to see if anyone has tried something similar. [link] [comments]
Complete smarthome setup for a new / renovated house Posted: 08 Jul 2020 02:51 PM PDT Hi, I'm going to renovate my house and I am looking into different home automation options for making the house a true "smart home". Since it is a complete renovation, I do have the opportunity to go with a full hard-wired system, but I can still also go with the separate smart devices like nest thermostat, ring doorbell, philips hue lights etc. My question now is: what kind of technology did you / are you going to install. Did you go with a full hard wired system or just independent smart devices? And what kind of technologies did yo go for? [link] [comments]
Hue Light strip - power supply Posted: 08 Jul 2020 08:16 AM PDT Hello, I seem to have lost the power supply to my hue light strip at some point (not sure how that was even possible) Anyone know of a good replacement? [link] [comments]
Yale Assure Lock With Connected By August Posted: 08 Jul 2020 01:45 PM PDT Hey all. We recently got our first smart home lock in a Yale Lever lock. We like it so far but I still getting use to the limitations of certain aspects of it. To that end, I have some questions I have been trying to find answers for: First off, we are going to exchange the one we got for the Keyed version of the exact same lock.
I appreciate your help. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Jul 2020 12:43 PM PDT This might be a bit of a stretch, it seems like it's a little outside of typical home automation projects. But I'm not sure quite where to ask about it and I'm having trouble finding information. I've been trying to set up a system for tracking items in my apartment based on UHF RFID. I've been using a small, short range antenna and a cheap development reader to test some software and it seems to work. I'm now thinking about getting a larger antenna or antennae to actually be able to cover a decent area. Here's the issue I'm having: I can't figure out how to determine the coverage area of the antenna. I'm looking at a reader with 10m-15m of range using a 9dbi circular antenna. My understanding (which my be incorrect) is that a circular antenna will cover some area in a conical shape. How do I calculate this area? I've found a few calculators online but it seems like I might be missing some information. I understand that there's all kinds of potential for interference etc. but I just want to get a rough idea. How to Automate a Light/Fan combo that came with a Remote? Posted: 08 Jul 2020 12:32 PM PDT I bought an indoor / outdoor ceiling fan with light for my front porch and I always intended to automate it with a wall switch (at least the lighting function). However, it came with a remote that controls the fan and the light. There's a module I wired in with an antenna for the remote. Any thoughts on how I could integrate the light / fan with my existing home automation using the module with antenna? Or maybe there's another type of module I could replace that one with for WiFi connectivity? [link] [comments]
How to reverse engineer LED light strips bluetooth protocol? Posted: 08 Jul 2020 12:32 PM PDT Hi all, I bought these LED light strips a little while ago and installed them in my home. Everything works great but the one thing i feel that they're missing is integration with google assistant/amazon alexa. So I'm trying to reverse engineer the bluetooth protocol that the free mobile app uses by using my Android phone's bluetooth HCI sniffer and wireshark on my PC. My goal is to first create a small python script to control the LED lights, and then transfer that knowledge into a larger project that incorporates google assistant and maybe razer chroma. I installed nRF Connect and I've followed this post and this article, but my device doesn't seem to use the ATT protocol. I think it uses L2CAP. I identified a pattern in the way that the app is sending values, however when i write my own values to the LED light's service, the colour doesn't change. I don't have a lot of experience with this so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Jul 2020 11:11 AM PDT I know that Lutron offers hembar alignmet and t I've seen on some European offered shades to do the same with SMI type controls. Not sure if Somfy or others do it. [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Jul 2020 10:34 AM PDT Installed a basic Amazon Echo system with TP-Link light switches about a year ago. Bathroom light/fan (same switch) was set to turn off 45 minutes after being turned on. I can't quite remember how I did it, but it worked flawlessly until 2-weeks ago. Light/fan no longer turns off after 45 minutes. On the Kasa app, under the "Bathroom Lights" settings, I see a "time" button. It's set to 45 minutes, so I guess this is where I initially set it up. But there is a start button at the bottom, so it's acting as a timer when manually pressed. Was this a recent feature change? How would I set-up any lights to turn off automatically after being turned on? Would rather not install additional apps if possible. I know it can be done as it worked perfect for about a year! Thanks for any help! [link] [comments]
Troubleshoot Lutron Caseta Fan Control Posted: 08 Jul 2020 10:06 AM PDT Need some help. I installed a Lutron Caseta fan controller for the ceiling fan in our master bedroom. After installation, the led on the controller was green but no movement from the fan. The fan was on and set to maximum speed so I am wondering if the controller just wanted compatible for controlling my fan (some $100 fan my wife bought at a big box store) [link] [comments] |
