Posted: 07 Jul 2020 11:48 AM PDT Basically, are there any smart locks that connect to my wifi or z-wave hub that can lock a deadbolt but are physically unable to unlock it? As in, a one-way motor or something. I like the idea of being able to check remotely if a door was left unlocked and lock it from anywhere, but I want it to be physically impossible for a hacker, a glitch or even butt presses on the phone to unlock my house. Best smart thermostat for electric baseboard AND central air? Posted: 07 Jul 2020 08:23 PM PDT I need to replace the thermostat for my central air unit and also have old electric baseboard heaters that I wanted to install smart thermostats on. I have looked at Mysa in the past, but since I need to replace the AC thermostat, I wanted to see if there was a compatible units that I could connect to both the baseboard units and the central air. I know that Nest and the like dont work with line voltage heaters. but is there a way to network different thermostats together? Or a system that does allow for all of the units to be connected? Would rather not deal with too many systems. Side note: also considering smart blinds at some point too. Although I was looking at Tilt which looks like it is not compatible with anything? [HELP] Need suggestions for smart light switch Posted: 07 Jul 2020 08:15 PM PDT Hey guys, I was considering buying a smart light switch (Caséta by Lutron). But found out caseta will only work with 120v and my country use 220v. And my apartment don't have neutral wire and grounding wire, do you have suggestions? [link] [comments]
This is my smart home in a rental so far, looking for suggestions on what else I should get Posted: 07 Jul 2020 05:35 PM PDT Hey everyone, like most of us here I've caught the bug of home automation but I've found myself wondering " It's 2020 now mm I missing anything" or "what else can I get" that's affordable and useful and ended up scrolling amazon for hours looking for things so I thought I'd post what I have and ask you guys, is there anything you've found great in your home which you would recommend to me that I'm missing? I know I'm missing a smart door lock, unfortunately I have a door handle like this which doesn't appear to be compatible with any of the smart locks I've found and as I'm renting I'm not able to replace the door. I'm also missing something that can turn my Venetian blinds although the only thing I've found for this so far is the soma tilt and that seems to be more expensive than what its worth and again I have the rental restrictions. All suggestions welcome :) Here's my home so far: Living Room Smart Home Devices: · 3 Sonoff smart switches connected to the computer monitors. · 1 Sonoff smart switch connected to the Phillips Hue Bars. · 1 Elgato stream deck for easy smart home control at the computer. · 1 LED light strip connected to the desk. · 1 Phillips Hue bulb. · 1 Amazon fire cube controlling the TV, Xbox & Stereo. · 1 LED Light Strip connected to the TV. · 1 Broad link Mini to control satellite channels & the air conditioner. · 1 WyzeCam pointed towards the yard. · 1 B-Hyve sprinkler hub Kitchen Smart Home Devices: · 1 Phillips Hue Bulb. · 1 Kogan Smart Kettle. · 1 Fire HD 8 Tablet – This is used primary as a weather station/recipe viewer but can also be used to control the remainder of the home. Bathroom Smart Home Devices · Amazon Echo Dot Gen 2: Used for shower music and commands. · Toilet LED Light just for fun and it was cheap as chips. Bedroom Smart Home Devices: · 2 Sonoff smart switches connected to the electric blanket · 2 Sonoff smart switches connected to the bedroom lamps · 1 Phillips hue bulb · 1 WyzeCam pointed towards the back of the yard · 1 Broad link mini controlling the bedroom tv · 1 Xaomi Mi Vacuum · 1 Echo Show 5 for an alarm clock, touch screen control & doorbell viewer · 1 Echo Dot (gen 2) previously my main assistant in the bedroom, now used for surround music. Outdoors · 1 Ring doorbell camera · 1 B-Hyve sprinkler system [link] [comments]

Posted: 07 Jul 2020 08:11 AM PDT Hello All, I have a projector in my bedroom along with home theater set up. It's a small room and I am happy with my set up so far. Recently I came across Philips HDMI Sync box for Ambilight. It looks so good to have it and so I wanted to try. But usually people keep the hue lights behind the TV. I wanted to keep the lights at the sides of the walls behind subwoofer and speakers. Did anyone tried this set up? Please let me know your thoughts. Also, can someone please tell the difference between having Hue Syn Mac/Windows application vs buying HDMI sync box. Sync box is cool but crazy expensive. [link] [comments]
Outdoor dimmer (SmartThings Compatible) Posted: 07 Jul 2020 09:21 PM PDT Looking for an outdoor rated plug in light dimmer for LED string lights. I was hoping there was something I could flash Tasmota on to, but nothing appears to be compatible. Don't want any Tuya / Smart Life options unless I can flash Tasmota for local control. Anyone aware of anything that would work here? Doesn't look like there are any Zigbee or Zwave options either. [link] [comments]

Track state of washer LEDs with a camera? Posted: 07 Jul 2020 04:10 PM PDT Does anyone know of any software libraries that could take a camera feed and report out if an LED is on or off? Trying to build a system to track my washer. My first go to is to use an ESP8266 with a photosensors over each LED, but I need to track 3 different LEDs and I'm worried about the WAF (wife acceptance factor) with multiple wires running across the washer. Wondering if a nicer looking system may be a camera pointed at the washer from above, so no wires or devices need to be directly affixed to the washer. My washer is an integrated washer/dryer unit, and I want to track each unit separately. A vibration sensor is a no go because it picks up both, and the unit is 220V so a power monitor is not ideal. This is why I'm going down the LED route. Disadvantages to using a camera may be changes in lighting affecting the reading of LEDs and blocking the camera when loading the unit. If there are solutions for using a camera, also curious what people have done to overcome those challenges. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Issues connecting Chamberlain myQ system Posted: 07 Jul 2020 06:27 PM PDT I'm trying to connect a Chamberlain myQ system (model MYQ-G0301) to a LiftMaster motor (model 2280-267) and the two never recognize one another after pushing the "learn" button on the motor. I did have 2 LED lights which I removed from the motor itself, plus one on the ceiling above the motor. There are fluorescent lights in the vicinity (about 8 feet away) but they are not on. I do not have any other devices active in the garage, and the myQ hub is about 2 feet away from the motor. Do I need to start removing LED bulbs inside the house? I was trying this before sundown so I don't even think I had any on in the house; I'm not sure on other devices as I've multiple running (though none in the vicinity of the myQ hub). Any ideas? Thoughts on what I'm missing? I should note that I've had trouble even connecting a keypad to this motor in the past, but this was before I knew to remove the LED bulbs and have not tried again since. [link] [comments]

Turning off TV using smart IR remote Posted: 07 Jul 2020 08:19 AM PDT I have a standard TV, standard aircon, and some smart IR remote (bardi & broadlink). I want to make a scenario, so that when i say "ok google, bedtime", both aircon and TV are turned off. It works well with aircon, but not so well with TV. The problem is that my TV remote (just like any other standard TV remote) only has one power button to turn on / turn off. So when i press the power button (via smart IR), it will turn on the TV if the current state is off, and it will turned off the TV if the current state is on. There is no way i can tell the TV to turned off, regardless of its current state. Any idea on how can i make it works? I was thinking to use smart plug to forcefully turn TV on/off, but i'm afraid that it will break my TV in a long run. I'm also thinking to use smart plug to determine the TV state based on its current power usage, but not sure if it will work. [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Jul 2020 09:27 AM PDT Are there any smart pool thermometers? I see there is Phin but it is a little expensive. I also came across mantapoolthermometer.com that looks promising but not out yet. [link] [comments]
Anyone use an external door lock with phone controls? Posted: 07 Jul 2020 10:56 AM PDT I'd like to set up a pool bath that only has access from the exterior. Is there a recommended door lock that would allow me to unlock it with my phone and then let the guest lock it form the inside? [link] [comments]
Multizone Spotify audio from a single PC Posted: 07 Jul 2020 04:53 PM PDT I want to setup a central PC to serve audio to multiple zones. I was thinking Mopidy/Snapcast. But it seems like neither, by default, sets itself up well to run multiple instances on a single PC. I have already divided up a sound card into different virtual sound cards through JACK (I think it works). Anyone do this or have another suggestion? [link] [comments]

Anyone been able to pair a Samsung sensor directly to an Echo Plus with Zigbee? Posted: 07 Jul 2020 04:24 PM PDT The Samsung multi sensors are on sale at Amazon right now but since I don't have a smarthings hub I was wondering if anyone has been able to connect them directly to an Echo with Zigbee. And if so do they work with routines? [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Jul 2020 03:46 PM PDT I'm setting this up for a friend. Posted: 07 Jul 2020 03:28 PM PDT I'm brand new to the smart home stuff, and overall we're keeping it fairly basic.Bought an open box Meross garage door opener off of eBay. It's definitely not open box - it looks like it was soldered with clear stretchy stuff on one side. I was setting it up and can't get the sensors to connect, and noticed that the box (plugged in around 10 minutes) already smelled of burning metal. It wasn't too noticeable, but noticeable enough that I smelled it from a foot away. Is this normal? Is it safe? I'm tempted to rip the wiring out if not because it feels like electricity isn't something you should mess with. Anyway, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Here's a couple of pictures of what I'm talking about. [link] [comments] |
