I need help resetting a wifi controller for an led strip Posted: 09 Jul 2020 11:15 PM PDT Hey everyone, I bought a Led strip that works with an app and when it arrived I plugged everything in and set it up and proceeded to test it. It worked fine so I plugged it all out and stuck it on the wall where I wanted it but when I plugged it back in it doesn't want to turn on at all. I tried holding the reset button for 10 seconds and I tried unplugging and plugging it back in 5 times and still nothing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments]
Need some help tackling porch pirates Posted: 09 Jul 2020 12:16 PM PDT My house is located in an area that has a lot of incidents of porch pirates. On two separate occasions in the last couple of months, my packages have gotten stolen. I have been thinking about getting a video doorbell for some time now but turns out all good video doorbells have a monthly subscription plan in order to get all the features. I can't afford that at the moment because I'm out of a job thanks to CoVID 19. Can any of you suggest any video doorbells that come without any annoying subscription fees? [link] [comments]
Besides us nerds people don't want cool, they want functional. An open question. Posted: 09 Jul 2020 06:09 PM PDT So, I have a wife. She likes when the lights come on, but not when they turn off too soon, or are too bright, or just anything wrong. [link] [comments]
How to deal with routines when working different shifts? Posted: 09 Jul 2020 06:56 AM PDT For my current job, I had some routines set up for my Hue lights doing sunrise and alarms flashing them, plus scene changes to signify when it's time to leave etc. I have them in the Hue app and the Alexa app. I worked at the same time each week so it was simple. My new job will be alternating weeks of early and late shifts and I don't know how to automate this. I don't want to get up at the same time on my late weeks because it's uncomfortably early. The idea I've come up with so far is to have the routines set up and just turn each one on and off each week, but that requires remembering. Maybe there's a way to integrate it with the calendar? If I could say to start the routine 1.5 hours before the event starts or something? I use the iCloud calendar but I would be open to using a different one. Any other ideas? [link] [comments]

Smart switch vs smart LED strip or both? Posted: 09 Jul 2020 01:21 PM PDT Hi, I recently switched the switches in my home to Lutron and I am looking into Hubitat or Home Assistant for automation. I want to install LED strips under my kitchen and bathroom cabinets. Is it better to install a smart LED strip or a switch that powers an LED strip (led strip would be connected to a socket and the socket will powered via a lutron switch) Please recommend. I appreciate you! [link] [comments]
Posted: 09 Jul 2020 05:02 PM PDT Hey folks. so i have a specific scenario that i want to run past you guys. The scenario is: My wife is playing a playlist in my bedroom. i hear it in my office and want to listen to it as well from exactly where she is listening to it at. essentially i want to press a button and now both of us are listing to the same songs together in both rooms without disrupting her music session. Is that possible? [link] [comments]

New rental, door is Schlage Connect. Which Z wave/zigbee hub is recommended? Posted: 09 Jul 2020 04:03 PM PDT I currently use Google Assistant as my only voice assistant and looking at the z-wave and zigbee hubs that work with it, Nexia was shown to be the only one that allowed use of Google Assistant, is this true? I've seen people on here showing distaste for Nexia. I have no experience with any z-wave or zigbee devices/hubs yet, so I'm hoping that the hub I get can be pretty broad use and should be my only Z wave hub for any future z wave items. Also, I'm not sure if my Schlage Connect model is z-wave or zigbee version as I read there are different versions. I could ask the homeowners if they know but I'm not sure if they will. Thanks. IoT access list / firewall rules Posted: 09 Jul 2020 12:16 PM PDT Is anyone aware of an aggregated source of IoT related ACL / firewall rules? I'm thinking of segregating my IoT devices on to a separate VLAN / SSID and want to further lock down any of those devices requiring cloud connectivity to only access essential services where possible. If this hasn't been done, is anyone interested in collaborating on the effort? Google's Caprica provides a platform for defining ACLs in a platform independent format and provide on the fly conversion. [link] [comments]

Liftmaster garage door opener beeping, not the myQsmart hub Posted: 09 Jul 2020 10:36 AM PDT I originally setup the myQ smart hub to provide remote control for my liftmaster garage door opener. The beeping on myQ hub drove me crazy so I disassembled it and cut out the speaker. Everything was working great for 6 months. Yesterday the hub disconnected from wifi and stopped working. I reset the hub, reconnected and now instead of the hub blinking and trying to beep (although doesn't since I cut it out) the liftmaster garage door opener lights flash and beeping comes from inside the door opener. Has anyone else experienced this? Its like the myQ hub handed off the safety warning to the garage door opener. [link] [comments]
What Zwave/Zigbee hubs can I use with HomeAssistant? Posted: 09 Jul 2020 09:39 AM PDT I am currently using SmartThings for my home automation and it works for the most part -- but part of me wants to be able to go completely offline and rely only on the sensors in a local network. This way I can still use automation to turn on and off lights, use my motion sensors, etc. Appreciate any thoughts on this! Thanks! [link] [comments]
Logitech Harmony control MQTT device without homeassistant? Posted: 09 Jul 2020 12:19 PM PDT Have a ambilight setup via Hyperion and am doing it wirelessly with an esp8266 and WLED. WLED can receive MQTT instructions. What id like is when i turn on or off the tv, it turns the LEDs on or off. Can I acheive this with something like IFTTT or something else? Id prefer not to have to setup HomeAssistant just for this if i can avoid it. If thats the only path, so be it, but trying to do this with the least amount of effort, lol. [link] [comments]
Is the Apple HomePod private? Looking for something that operates locally on my LAN Posted: 09 Jul 2020 12:09 PM PDT That's pretty much it, looking to do some automation but don't want everything I do winding up getting sent to remote servers first. I watched a couple reviews that made it appear that it works all locally but can't seem to confirm it. I get that when I do things remotely it's (somewhat) impossible but looking to be a local as possible. [link] [comments]
Ground Loop Audio Static, how to solve Posted: 09 Jul 2020 09:51 AM PDT Please see the diagram for my setup. https://imgur.com/a/NaYTEIr I have a slot where my pre-wired speakers terminate and it doesn't have any power outlet nearby. However, there is a RJ45 port nearby that I used to send the DC power using a DC to POE converter Now I get static through the speakers which looks like is being caused by the ground loop. I did add a ground loop isolator to the 3.5mm input on the Amp, but it's reduced the static, not completely eliminate it. Any suggestions on how I can eliminate the ground loop ? Full Path 2 Prong DC power supply -> 3 prong Power Strip -> connected to RJ45 using a DC to POE adapter -> convert POE to 2 pin DC adapter -> DC Amplifier. Source (Pi ZeroW + Shairport-sync)-> 3.5mm Ground loop isolator -> 3.5mm line in on DC Amp. Any way of getting ring flood light cam to activate siren when detecting motion at night? Posted: 09 Jul 2020 09:26 AM PDT The camera has an option to activate a siren, but the only option appears to be manually? I've got thieves coming by and trying our car doors several nights per week, they couldn't care less about the light, but I'm wondering if there might be a way using ifttt or something to have the siren come on as well? Posted: 09 Jul 2020 05:39 AM PDT Hey guys. So, I have an attic installed AC AIr handler/evap coil. I've had to empty the emergency pan a couple times due to how humid my attic has ben with the powered attic fan pulling in humidity/air from outside. (Evap coil/Air handler is working as expected, just has some air intrusion that's pulling in atmospheric air/humidity). I've got a water sensor in place on the pan already, but as a backup I want to set up a small wifi camera. I'm kinda bouncing around between Eufy and Reolink.. just looking on general thoughts on either brand. [link] [comments] |
