Is ESPHome v 1.15.2 or 1.15.3 with web_server compatible with a Sonoff Basic? Posted: 13 Dec 2020 06:15 AM PST I have several Sonoff Basic running ESPHome 1.15.1. They work fine. I upgraded one of them to 1.15.3 → still OK. I then added to another one on 1.15.1 the entry This device was flashed correctly, rebooted but does not connect to my WiFi anymore. Its led blinks continuously (as if it was looking for the network). The fallback AP does not start. The physical button works (the switch switches). Has anyone that combination working: Sonoff Basic + (I tested this on two different Sonoff Basics that are now bricked (in the sense that I will probably have to reflash them manually)) Note: I opened a GitHub Issue about that (https://github.com/esphome/issues/issues/1688) but no information so far. Note: 1.15.1 + EDIT: My configuration (XXX is redacted information)

HOME AUTOMATION (INTERGRATION) ZIGBEE? Posted: 14 Dec 2020 12:35 AM PST Hi , referring to the topic above (i am abit confused with my research). I'm looking to create a home automation eviroment while integrate with different devices or brands . My main idea or objective is to be able do automations without an internet connection . I have some research that i have done , however would like your opinion from those who have worked on it. Here are some research: I believe we require a hub for it which i think Raspberry Pi would be able to do that with Home Assistant & Conbee . So basically , i wanted to make the Raspberry Pi & Conbee to be a HUB without it needed to connect with wifi and using Home Assistant for it application. Next , I am thinking of using fully ZIGBEE protocol . Hence , i have been looking into TUYA, AQARA and SONOFF , which i believe their devices is compatible with ZIGBEE protocol . But i'm still unsure if the other AQARA devices require their own AQARA gateway/hub to be connected with the RespberryPi Additional: these are the devices that i'm looking for the home automation

Migrate from Insteon to Zwave? Questions about multiple zwave controllers? Is this the right move? Posted: 13 Dec 2020 02:34 PM PST I want to switch from insteon to another platform and I believe zwave is the next best option (for me). By best I mean reliability, cost, and open support to use any controller software I please. The biggest thing I'm struggling to understand is currently I have an RTI universal remote that flawlessly dims and controls my insteon lights through a network "driver" communicating with my isy994izw insteon controller. I have access to RTI software and drivers, I don't need a dealer to help me with programming it or acquiring software like many. RTI sells a zwave controller/module (rti zw-9) to allow rti remotes to interface with zwave devices and lights. My basic understanding is if I want to move to zwave and use either Home Assistant or the ISY as my main zwave controller the RTI controller would need to be added to the network as a secondary controller? Is this correct? The only functionality I want to achieve with this addition is maintaining the ability for me to control dimming and on/off functionality from my remotes. The current implementation works beautifully with 0 perceptible lag. My concern is it sounds like this secondary controller functionality in zwave land is kind of half baked and could introduce problems. Does it sound like my use case is simple enough that it wouldn't be of much concern? Thank you for any help! [link] [comments]
Tasmota flashed SonOff RfBridge - I want to use my RfBridge to teach a learning remote a code. Posted: 13 Dec 2020 08:10 PM PST I have a Tasmota flashed SonOff RfBridge - I want to use my RfBridge to teach a learning remote a code. To do this I need the RfBridge to transmit for about 5 seconds while I hold the learn button on the remote. I can see the red light flash so I know it sends the code - but I need to make it transmit longer so the remote will learn the code. All help is welcome. [link] [comments]
Posted: 13 Dec 2020 10:39 AM PST I'd like to automate my outdoor wood boiler operation with my inside furnace. Switching between the 2 is simply opening the cable to allow the water to flow into the exchanger and closing another valve that would normally allow the water flow to bypass the exchanger. I've found water valves that support zwave, but they all fail closed. In this case, failing open is best as it won't damage pumps. Anyone know of valves that's support zwave or WiFi that can be set to fail open? [link] [comments]
Posted: 13 Dec 2020 07:40 PM PST I'm hoping to do some decent lighting outdoors. But what I really don't want is to have to run power from the house. Having to run power and bury the line feels like a big hassle after all the automation work I've done recently. Is there a set of smart /WiFi / zwave or zigbee lights I can purchase that maybe run on solar power or battery? Maybe I can hack together a solution? Advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you. Google Home for elderly parents? Posted: 13 Dec 2020 08:01 AM PST Hoping to get some input from the pros here. I'm new to home automation, getting the Hubitat for Christmas (hopefully!). I'm also trying to get my mom something very basic to help her get started. I'm not geographically close to help set it up so I'm thinking something very basic like a google home mini and a few WiFi plugs to replace her clap-on, clap-off light. Ok, I'm kidding about the light but I'm surprised she doesn't have one. Anyhow, I love my mom and would like to help her out. Any suggestions you can recommend? I already got her a few other things so I'm not looking to spend over $100 if possible. Oh and she wants to be able to talk to it. I think she means she wants to be able to ask questions and it feel more fluent and conversational as opposed to just speaking certain words, if that makes sense? TIA [link] [comments]
How to monitor a reptile enclosure with Z-Wave? Posted: 13 Dec 2020 10:16 AM PST I have a pretty robust HA setup using SmartThings as the backbone. I'd like to get z-wave multi-sensor for monitoring temperature and humidity in my ball python's enclosure. Can anyone suggest a good option that I can leave in a a fairly hot and humid environment 24x7 that does not cost too much? Preferably under $30. [link] [comments]
Shelly Dimmer Wiring - Any advantages of one vs the other? Posted: 13 Dec 2020 07:11 AM PST I am adding Shelly dimmer to my ceiling light switch (toggle switch) and wanted to check if there's preference for wiring the Shelly dimmer as per fig 1. Vs fig 3. of this user guide https://shelly.cloud/documents/user_guide/shelly_dimmer_2.pdf Its basically either having Neutral connected to SW1 or Line connected to SW1. Other pins connections remains the same - O and N go to Neutral and L go to Line. Is there a preference that you folks have of connecting the SW to N vs L? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Associate zwave devices without physically moving them to the host location? Posted: 13 Dec 2020 05:41 PM PST Are their any tools can be used to associate zwave devices without removing them to be physically near the hub? I'm moving from a SmartThings installation to home assistant and really don't want to have to physically uninstall my devices to associate them. It was my understanding that the Aeotec minimote used to be able to do this, but they're no longer available. Is there an alternate tool? [link] [comments]
Posted: 13 Dec 2020 01:37 PM PST On mobile, will try to keep it short. Need help finding a video doorbell, no subscription...but viewable from my phone when I'm away from my home...with notifications, storage and all that jazz. I've spent a couple hours now looking, and the eufy seems good...I'm not loving having to plug the other half directly into my router.... Any ideas for me? I'd appreciate it. (Had a package stolen today so now I'm on a mission) I have alexa and google home Edit: for typos n shit [link] [comments]
Transferring Alexa skills/configuration? Posted: 13 Dec 2020 06:40 PM PST Hi there - Would love help on a creative solution here (trIed r/alexa, no luck). Maybe there isn't one. I just purchased a home with a ton of Echoes that have been programmed pretty significantly inside a home automation system (an RTi system mentioned elsewhere). I have limited information on what's been done - some of the voice commands are written down, I've done some experimentation. The programming is connected to a home automation system with a number of other systems (Somfy shades, Lutron lights, Ecobee thermostats, Pentair pool & spa, LTS cameras) and a controller (RTi, connected to some speakers, and a Ubiquiti network). The Alexa devices are assigned to the personal account of the seller - who will work with me (and is super non-technical, so I need to make the requests simple). The integrator who put this all together is AWOL. Is there any mechanism for the seller to move the programmed devices to me - or alternatively, is there some way for me to get enough information on how they are set up so that I could recreate it from scratch? I think the answer to the first question is no - the best-case scenario is that the seller could add me (or a new acct I create) as an adult household member and we could share them. (Maybe that's enough for me to get all of the information out to regenerate it?) I know that deregistering them means I'm starting over. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Zigbee has no coordinator failover/high availability. How is it then used in industry? Posted: 13 Dec 2020 02:47 PM PST Given that zigbee devices are tied to a single coordinator, how can Zigbee be used and sold for industrial applications with such a single point of failure? I see plenty of sites selling industrial zigbee sensors. Are there failover/HA options not available with consumer kit? [link] [comments]
Best physical button to open August lock? Posted: 13 Dec 2020 05:58 PM PST Have an August lock and Nest Hello at our front gate. Very happy with both. When someone rings I pull open the Nest app to see who is there. If it's someone I know or a delivery, I want to push a physical button on my desk that unlocks the August lock. Any recs? (I know I can switch to the August app and open the lock or setup voice activation, but, for different reason, I want a button!) [link] [comments]
Wireless Latching Relay with contact inputs Posted: 13 Dec 2020 04:16 PM PST I am looking for a simple wireless relay to start my generator from inside. It is a single wire start meaning I just have to supply power to the ECM and it will control the rest. So ebay is filled with these wireless relays with the cheapest key fob that would work. But I want to find a transmitter that just gives me some contact points that I can wire to any two button for on and off. Of even possibly anther controller to auto start the generator. It can not be WIFI since it needs to work with no power. (Besides Internal Batteries) Maybe some kind of wireless I/O? Two way would be great so I can send some data back like fuel level, Coolant Temp, etc. [link] [comments]

Cheapest radiator valve with wifi access? Posted: 13 Dec 2020 09:18 AM PST As a poor student I'm trying to create my own home automation network (basically what companies like Zigbee are trying to do). I'm looking to add room-temperature automation to my network, and already have the temperature sensors sending data to a server. Now I'm looking for a radiator valve that can be controlled over wifi. Problem is that every one I find is basically only usable in a dedicated ecosystem (like Zigbee) and come with whole apps and stuff but I would much rather have a simple "Linear motor that can be controlled over Wifi". Does anyone know if something like this exists? This DIY guide basically makes what I want, but the motors that they're using are no longer available for a price that makes a project like that worthwhile. Additionally, it is quite a lot of work to do all the prototyping and fitting of the actual housing myself and I'd rather spend my time writing software. Any help would be greatly appreciated! BME280 and precise absolute values Posted: 13 Dec 2020 02:08 AM PST I'm trying to get nice room temperature readings with bme280 (although this applies to any sensor I believe) and the problem is that sensor itself heats up when it works, the board that controls it heats up, everything heats up and makes readings go up. As of now, I reduced sampling rate to once every 10 sec, switched off filtering and tuned down sampling of the sensor to "X2". Also I put ESP8266 that controls it to sleep for those 10 sec. Also the sensor hangs on a wire below the ESP and the phone charger I use to power it up. Still, if I point a small fan on the sensor I get readings ~0.2 deg. lower than without the fan. Not that bad, but I expect it to become much worse when I put everything in a case. Now I see only one option: put one of those 20mm fans in the case, but it will make the whole thing bigger and add a mechanical failure pont. Does anyone have a better idea? [link] [comments]

Posted: 13 Dec 2020 11:38 AM PST Just curious what everyone is using for bulbs? I had some hue lights that had been fine until the bridge died. I never used the RGB feature, just the on/off/dim. So I was looking at some options and wondering what others are using. I definitely don't want to do anything that requires cloud. I have some mysensors diy stuff on my network. I have some tasmota devices (tasmota bulbs would be cool). Just curious what all is out there lately. [link] [comments] |
