Ready to use air data sensor (temperature + humidity ). Don't care about price.

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 11:50 PM PST

    Hello

I am looking to monitor air and humidity (eventually air quality) in at least 3 rooms at home.

I have seen all these"weather stations" on Amazon and already own one but the sensors are crazy. If i put all 3 of them at the same place I get a difference of 5-10% of humidity and 5°C

Where can I find some reliable one, and ready to use? I understand than in this subreddit, i will find bare sensors ready to be mounted on a raspberry pi, but i am looking for ready to use.

    Options appreciated:

Rechargeable battery with mini USB or USB C instead of AAA batteries that I should replace.

Connectivity with a MQTT hub that I could use later (but seriously i can live without that)

Thanks for any help or direction.

    RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A SMART VENT.

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 10:49 PM PST

As the title says I am looking for recommendations for a smart vent that could be controlled by Google home. I'm not looking to do zones and whatnot. Basically even though it is winter I still run the A/C, my wife hates it and she likes to sit in her library with the fireplace. While I'm running the AC I want to be able to tell Google to close the vent in the library.

So I do not really need anything fancy, I just need something that I can literally tell Google to open and/or close.

Voice Commands to control lights - Alexa vs GH

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 10:37 PM PST

I have Lutron lights set up through my entire home (about 35). I've been using GH for the past 1.5 years and someone gifted me an Alexa. Whereas the GH is slow to react when it comes to turning lights on and off, I've noticed the Alexa is instant. Anyone else have the same experience?

Wall Sockets - DIY or buy smart ones already?

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 10:29 PM PST

Hello people, im going full smart in my house now, the question is if there are any tasmota flashable Wall Sockets. I have some noname ones but im not able to flash them OTA.

I saw some nice bseed sockets, but im really not sure if they will flash. What about buying non smart wall sockets and then putting a shelly or 4CH Sonoff behind that? The only thing im not sure about is surge protection on sonoff/shelly, even they have a input for GND.

On/off monitor for a device to report when its using particular current

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 03:47 PM PST

    A+ for a clear title, I know.

I have a machine and I'd really love to know when it's in use. When the machine is "on" it doesn't mean it's in use, and let's consider the software running said machine to not be useful for this kind of exercise. I'm looking for something relatively dumb which can look for an amperage load and then report that out to the interweb when that load is reached.

For example, the machine has a warning light operating at 12V DC. If the machine is on, the light is one color, if it's on and running, it's a different color. I could grab that amp draw and have that inform something else that the machine is running.

At a base level, I need to be able to check some sort of status page and see if the machine is running. Above that, I could automate some scripts so folks in the company get notified via chatbot when the machine is running or done with a job, and I can run stats on time the machine spent running.

While I could build something to do this, I feel like there is a smart home-esque thing to save me the trouble. Monitoring the current draw with an if statement is probably the big reach here. Any ideas?

Good smart thermostat for mobile home forced air system?

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 07:31 PM PST

    Hello!

I wanted to take a Nest thermostat for my mobile home but one article was recommending the Mysa smart thermostat for forced air systems.

I don't have centralized AC so I'm just searching for a smart thermostat that can get a more stable and modular temperature than my old mechanical one who basically has either "arctic cold" or "burning in hell" temperature.

I would prefer to stay in the Nest or Mysa price range but of course I'm open to any suggestions!

    Thank you!

    Bathroom Fan/light

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 07:29 PM PST

I have a bathroom where the fan and light are on a single light switch. Anyone know a good/smart way to separate these? Even if it's through Alexa or a motion sensor, I'd like to be able to turn the light on without the fan coming on.

Ideas for automating parcel drop off

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 01:19 PM PST

    Hello everybody,

While receiving a parcel today I got thinking if somebody of you has found already an idea how to automate the parcel drop-off efficiently. At the moment my process would be to go to one of the speakers that are connected to the frontdoor, they say that they bring a parcel, I say that they can leave the parcel at the entrance and I am going to pick it up (so they don't have to wait and I don't have to run downstairs).
I thought about buying a parcel bag and put a sensor on it, where deliverymen can than drop-off the parcels and I get a notification on my phone and/or trigger a certain light scenario in my house. The problem is that there seems to be no affordable option for this that seems even slightly safe. Another option would be to put a Pi inside speaker and if it recognices one of the words "postman", "delivery", "parcel" , etc. than it sends the pre-recorded message where I say "I am coming downstairs".
Has anybody from you already had this problem and found a neat solution?

Is there a way to dim or nullify the power on light on smart wall switches?

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 10:09 PM PST

I installed this blue laser in our bedroom over the weekend and I'd really like to put tape over it or something, but I'm concerned that'd disable the capacitive manual on/off controls. Any suggestions?

    828LM MyQ no longer connecting

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 02:43 PM PST

I have a liftmaster garage door opener that is connected to the internet through an 828lm gateway device. Worked flawlessly until I swapped out (updated) my modem router combo through my internet provider. Blue light was solid but there was no green light. Its not flashing. So power cycled everything. No change. Soft reboot the 828, no change. Hard reboot the 828, lost the blue to (not surprising). Everything else with the modem router works awesome, including another device for local cameras connected through a lan port. Any suggestions? Is there a router setting I need to change? Any help would he great. Also not sure it matters but when I reboot the 828 it blinks three not four times like I read it should. Thanks in advance.

Using a Shelly 2.5 to control a linear 12v actuator... wiring?

Using a Shelly 2.5 to control a linear 12v actuator... wiring?

    Hi all,

does anyone know how to achieve this?

See the attached diagram, from the people at Shelly: I cannot find the pole switching board, 12 volt, BSC technology... Is there anything like this on amazon USA?

I do not need the black adapter, because I already have a 12 v transformer.

Otherwise, I know this is possible using relays, but what type, and ... wiring diagram?

    Thank you!

What’s a good smart plug that is suited for the outdoors?

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 09:39 AM PST

Hi all. I'm looking for a smart plug that can withstand the harsh snowy/rainy winters. I will be using it to connect my LED reindeers.

I bought the kasa outdoor smart plug and unfortunately received a defective one. I was going to reorder online the next day until it quickly sold out. So what's another good outdoor smart plug that works just as well as the kasa one lol Any feedback is appreciated!

    Wifi Motion/Occupancy Sensor

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 07:37 PM PST

Has anyone used this wifi motion sensor? I'd like to get on to enable some Smartlife app compatible devices when a room is occupied. I'd like to know if it's worth getting or if there is a better item I could buy that will work with the Smartlife app.

Whole house Automation lighting / plugs - Down to bare stud remodel

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 06:07 PM PST

I am looking for anyone that has some experience in installing smart lighting and plugs in a whole house remodel. There seem to be multiple systems and brands outthere but of course everything is the best in marketing materials.

We have walls ripped down to studs and can cut holes and run wire to most anywhere we want, can anyone point me in the right direction and or rate your experiences when installing a base set up for home automation ? We have Apple, Google and Amazon devices in the house as controllers.

    Thanks

    MagicHome LEDnetXXXXXX "No internet connection"

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 11:34 AM PST

So I'm trying to connect my LED lights to the magic home app, and when I go to settings > Wifi and press on the "LEDnetXXXXXX" it loads for a while and says underneath the wifi network "No Internet Connection" In bold orange text, and it does not connect. I've got bluetooth on so that doesn't seem to be the issue. I'm using an iPhone 11 if that gives anymore insight. Any help please?

First smart thermostat - heat with wood primarily, propane furnace for backup

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 09:11 AM PST

I'm late to the game and just getting moving towards making our home a smart one.

We live in Ontario (so brrr), have a wood stove, propane furnace, and central air.

Current thermostat is a pretty basic Honeywell one. Non programmable. Wires are RC, R, W, Y, G. Single heating zone.

What I want out of a smart thermostat is: 1) Kick on the propane furnace if the upstairs gets too cold 2) Kick on the furnace fan if the upstairs is too hot in the winter 3) In the summer, kick on the AC if the upstairs is too hot

We are mostly Google products at home, but not exclusive. Would prefer Google Assistant capability over Alexa.

Would the Honeywell T5+ meet our needs? If not, what other one should I be looking into?

    General purpose Zigbee switch

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 02:50 PM PST

I am having an issue finding a general (ideally wire free) zigbee switch. I am currently using a new echo with built in hub, which works great for the assortment of smart bulbs I have (sengled, hue, and Sylvana), however I can't find a switch that I can pair with this hub that is "generally" programmable.

My goal is to place a few switches around that when toggled trigger an Alexa routine to turn on or off the lights, maybe start playing music—anything I can do with a routine really.

I bought an Aurora switch by Lutron, however it only works with hue. I love the design, so something similar would be fantastic, but I haven't found anything.

    Any help is hugely appreciated!!

Smart lock replacement for this lock?

    Posted: 11 Dec 2020 09:41 AM PST

    Hihi,

Anyone know of a smart lock that I could use to replace this Yale one?

    https://i.imgur.com/pwobPOM.jpg

I had a look on their website and couldn't see one. The trouble is the deadbolt knob and key barrel is all one unit so can't just pull the knob bit off and use a smart lock that has one of those adapters. Either need something that would be a full replacement or something that can use the existing dead bolt knob.

    Cheers for any assistance!
