Advanced smart plug solutions? Posted: 10 Mar 2021 06:38 PM PST I am wondering if there are any advanced smart plug solutions that area ready to go out of the box for a couple tasks that I need them to do, basically I need a plug that if over X time period, if the device plugged in draws over X kWh of power, it cuts the power and does not power back on for another 24hrs. Or if power draw ever goes above X watts or X amps, the power cuts until manual reset. Does such a product exist on the market today? If not, what can I do to get this sort of functionality? Deadbolt with z-wave *and* NFC *and* no KEY access! Posted: 10 Mar 2021 02:49 PM PST I'm trying to find a deadbolt lock that can open via keypad or NFC and connects to Z-Wave. I've seen posts on here before looking for NFC+Z-WAVE for locks and it hasn't been promising, but maybe that's changed in the last year. But I definitely want one that does *not* have key access, I want keypad/NFC only, so things like the August lock which just hide the key slot are not of interest to me. [link] [comments]
Smart Switches, small junction box Posted: 10 Mar 2021 11:40 PM PST Hi all, I want to make my wall switches smart so they can be voice controlled with Alexa. I'm in the UK and my house does have the neutral wire, however the junction box is very small, only 16mm. Does anyone know of any smart switches, or modules that will fit in such a small space? Thanks for your help! FormallyBook [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Mar 2021 10:56 PM PST Hi. I have WiFi LED lights and fans installed at home that I am currently using Google Assistant to control, mostly through Sonos smart speakers and my Pixel 4a. In addition to these, I am looking to get some form of wireless remote where I can turn on/off a group of devices with a button. This will ideally be mounted/pasted on a wall. So far I have only been able to find in-wall WiFi dimmers and the Yeelight adhesive dimmer that apparently only works with Yeelight branded lights. Does the product I'm looking exist? Exterior Smart Lock (for a gate) Posted: 10 Mar 2021 02:34 PM PST I'm trying to find a smart lock I can use on our gate to the back yard. Does anyone know of any brand that states that both sides of the lock are IP rated? [link] [comments]
Is anyone using a Wiz dimmer switch? Posted: 10 Mar 2021 09:23 PM PST I asked recently about a way to have a wiz bulb turn on via a schedule, but then also be 'turned off/on' with a switch to act like a regular bulb. The issue is if I use a regular switch, it cuts the power and obviously the bulb will not be able to turn on by itself. At the time the answer was to consider the Wiz remote. However, I just discovered that they make a Wiz smart dimmer switch: https://www.wizconnected.com/en-US/consumer/products/046677603106/ It looks like this can do two things: 1) act like a regular dimmer switch for any fixture and bulb plugged in with the bonus that it can be controlled remotely. 2) That it can also control other wiz bulbs not directly wired. But I'm not positive about #2. Can anyone confirm? What my goal is: - Have several lamps using Wiz bulbs---all plugged into different outlets. - These will turn on in the mornings with the scheduled 'sunrise' mode - at any time, they can also be turned off or on via a switch and act like regular bulbs It seems like I could add this switch next to an existing switch (to get power to the switch) but then essentially have it work as a remote, just in switch form. Is that the case? [link] [comments]
Need to control my kitchen lights. Bulbs or switches? Posted: 10 Mar 2021 08:56 PM PST I am in a rental home, but I'm on great terms with the landlords. The light switches in the kitchen are extremely inconveniently placed. To turn on the lights we have to fumble in the dark. Would it be better to control that with a smart switch or smart bulbs? One switch or two bulbs for now. The only smart system we have is a wifi outlet switch controlling a lamp with Alexa. I have a z-wave deadbolt ready to install, but don't have a controller yet. So I'm debating z-wave lights, but not sure yet. Basically, what would be the easiest way to go that doesn't leave me with several competing ecosystems if I expand in the near future? I'm sure variations of this question gets answered alot, so thanks sincerely for the insights! [link] [comments]

How idea how I can track/log my commute time over an extended period of time? Posted: 10 Mar 2021 01:54 PM PST Hi all, My work is in the process of requiring us to transition from remote work to going into the office. My typical commute is 1-2 hours each way depending on traffic (via public bus). Is there anyway that I can track the amount of time it takes to commute and add it to a spreadsheet? I am hoping to use something like IFTTT. Thanks [link] [comments]
Heat pump thermostat alternative (MHK2 Mitsubishi Redlink) Posted: 10 Mar 2021 07:43 PM PST About to have a new Mitsubishi heat pump system installed and I was disappointed to see the thermostat that the installer says is required to operate the system. I understand that to get the most out of this system a basic Nest isn't going to cut it. I appreciate that the previous comments I've seen mention the Mitsubishi/Honeywell thermostat as recommended/used due to the fine control of the system. Installer is recommending the newer MHK2 device. This is not a mini-split system, but will utilize existing central duct work. I suspect the IR based systems I've seen will not work? Looked at Sensibo and Broadlink+Homebridge, but those appear to support the mini-split systems via IR, not a central system with single wired thermostat control. Intend to connect to Homekit if possible. Do you know any alternatives that may work as well as the MHK2? Feels crazy to move backward on the thermostat and automation while moving forward with the heat pump. It looks like the Mitsu thermostat is a rebrand of the Honeywell. Wondering if the z-wave Honeywell would work? It looks similar cosmetically but I understand that the internals may be different. Looks like Honeywell has multiple stages while the Mitsubishi is fully variable? https://www.security.honeywellhome.com/product-repository/t6-z-wave-thermostat vs. https://www.mitsubishicomfort.com/products/controls/wireless-wall-mounted-controller Thanks in advance! Okay so I've got Lutron Caseta + Hue bulbs in about 100 different spots in my house now... Posted: 10 Mar 2021 12:34 PM PST Right now using SmartThings, Hue and Lutron apps to control everything but will eventually get HA once my blue box ships. My question is... shouldn't I put up some cool command centers on the wall to control everything? Other than sticking an always on/charging iPad on the wall, is there a recommended device that does all this? Ideally it would have little buttons for scenese across multiple apps -- e.g., turn the Lutron switch on but also change the Hue bulb color to blue, etc. [link] [comments]
Smart sensors for monitoring water Posted: 10 Mar 2021 07:16 PM PST Hello everyone, I have scoured subs on reddit and google for suggestions for what seems like hours now, but have found literally nothing; I'm hoping someone here can provided some helpful answers. I am trying to find an inline water sensor for temperature, flow, and pressure that I can use with 3/4" pipe. Preferably it should use Z-Wave but I'll settle for WiFi as long as I virtually add it to my Hubitat. It can be three individual sensors for all I care, but I don't want to tape it to the outside of the pipe, use ultrasonic sensors or anything like that. I find it hard to believe that I cannot find anything that fits this description online. I know the 'Flo by Moen' can do these items, but I can't pay $500 for every spot that I want to add these monitoring capabilities. I'm just looking for plain inline sensors that I can use for automations in Hubitat. Thanks for any helpful suggestions. [link] [comments]
Help with Yoolax / Graywind blinds + hub setup / integration Posted: 10 Mar 2021 07:15 PM PST I've just started getting into Home Automation and want to setup a more integrated system. Currently: I currently have Phillips Hue lights setup (using their app for scheduled on/off). I have a 2nd gen echo connected to a TP-Link Kasa Smart outlet that powers my fan. The echo is also hooked to a bluetooth speaker with music setup. Goal: I'm looking to add 2 smart blinds scheduled to open in the morning/ close at night and I'd like to have the Hue/Blinds/music on the same voice system (with scheduling). I saw Yoolax/Graywind roller shades on Amazon which look good but I'm not sure on the integrating part. Both say they can connect to certain models of Alexa directly, but Graywind says Zigbee motors (I saw a reddit comment here saying they wish they had gone all Zigbee) and Yoolax doesn't say, and it says other models of Alexa or Google Home need a hub. Notes: I don't mind buying a hub or google/echo if needed; The blinds are near a power outlet, but I'd prefer a battery system; the windows are double windows ~80in span and it'd be nice to control them separately (due to my neighbors window line of sight) so I was thinking about splitting the double windows into 2 roller shades each. Do these 2 roller shades use the same tech/ integrate the same? And do I need a hub or newer google/echo to integrate the blinds/phillips hue/music? [link] [comments]
SmartLife App Widget Button Management Posted: 10 Mar 2021 10:16 PM PST I set up a bunch of smart bulbs in my house that require the SmartLife App, they were added in a individual devices and then applied to groups based on location (e.g. by room). I just saw that there's a widget option for the app but it shows every device and every group, which requires it to be much larger than I need. I'd love a 2x2 or 2x3 widget that only shows my groups. Is this possible? I recently bought a bunch of Philips bulbs and a bridge to replace these, so if that's possible with that setup it would improve the chances I expedite the replacement. Smart thermostat for home with 2 independently controlled ac units Posted: 10 Mar 2021 02:38 PM PST I have a 2 floor condo and am taking steps into home automation, however as per the title I have 2 thermostats at the moment (upstairs and downstairs), wondering if there's any way with the current systems I can link 2 thermostats? And which vendor/product might be best here? Edit: I'm aware I will need 2 smart thermostats, I'm asking which ones play the nicest together with 2 in 1 house [link] [comments]

Posted: 10 Mar 2021 03:00 PM PST Currently using a Harmony hub to control my stereo. Recently got a Galaxy Watch 3 and would like to have access to the Harmony through the watch, it doesn't not have any apps that work for this, any tips? [link] [comments]
Looking at two switches that don't require a neutral wire Posted: 10 Mar 2021 12:48 PM PST Does anyone have any experience with these? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08MFBFG6Q/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A3Q9M3MA3Z74I1&psc=1 versus I read on here that broadlink one works via LAN once it's connected. I'm almost postive that i read that the MOES canb be flashed to tasmato but cannot find where I found that. I am looking for a smart switch that can integrate with home assistant, can use LED lights (preferable smart ones - I like redundancy), and can work without having to stay connected to any external servers. I was accomplishing this with Sonoff switches but that was at a house with a neutral wire. If there is a zigbee solution, that would be awesome as well. [link] [comments]

ESI Centro App: API Integration is possible! Posted: 10 Mar 2021 10:07 AM PST Hi all, so I recently found myself in a house that uses ESI thermostats that were Wifi enabled but held absolutely no ability to integrate with other systems like Alexa/Google/Home Assistant. And I thought that surely there are others out there in the same situation and that a small percentage of them might be frustrated by it. Well if you are in the incredibly small percentage of people this might help, I have the API routes to make your life a little better. though I will note their api does NOT use https so it is inherently insecure and if you use this app, probably a good idea if you use a completely unique password for this. Anyways here they are. There are a lot more routes I have no dug into, but to get you on your way. I will note that you might be able to wifi sniff to see if you can capture the routes on your wifi network and see about switching to local access, if its not encrypted. To authenticate the first call is: you can use the demo account to test: This will give you a token that does not expire and your user_id. You can then run this as a GET request to get your device ids
Once you take note of them you can now control your central heating!
You can then run the below for health checks/updates: [link] [comments]
Multi-room speaker recommendations Posted: 10 Mar 2021 05:34 AM PST Hi All, I'm sure this has been asked before but I'd like recommendation for my specific requirements. If some of them are stupid then please let me know. I'm in the process of purchasing a new home and I'm designing my smart home & automation setup. I am planning to set up a home assistant server so that can also be leveraged for what I need. What I'd like is a system that can utilise mostly wireless speakers on which I can play say Spotify in all rooms, a specific area (like downstairs), and one or more specific rooms. Ideally I want it to be scalable so I can start with a few key rooms and add the rest later so I can spread the cost. I'd also like to find a system where I'm not fixed to their speaker products, i.e. I'd like to have something available where I can mix and match speakers from different brands. Does anyone also know if there's something on the market which is more like a smart amplifier, so I can choose to play to that amp which has some other (not smart) speakers/drivers connected to it. In the living room I'm going to have a surround system - doesn't anyone know if there's a modern A/V receiver than can also double as a "smart speaker" so that I can utilise say the stereo speakers on the surround system instead of adding additional speakers into that room? Thank in advance for help! [link] [comments] |
