Posted: Can someone help me put down clear direction on what I should be buying including brands for minimal Home monitoring systems? Looking for; - motion detection + access to knowing who is at the door - invasion prevention from the backyard - possibly a smart thermostat and smart lock but this would be a bonus to treat ourselves Not very high on budget. Something which would keep us happy for at least 5 years if not more. DIY, easy to setup, install and does the job well with minimum hassle I hope there ain't no haters here. I just suck at getting this done as a general noob Thank you folks ! [link] [comments]

How to get smart bulbs to behave like normal bulbs? Posted: They've been disabled from Google but every time I turn on the lamp now the bulbs just flash constantly. How can I use them as a normal bulb that turns on and off with the switch? [link] [comments]

What outlets/plugs can I use that have an API I can poll for power usage? Posted: Looking to create some graphs with Chronograf and poll devices with a script - are there any plugs out there I can use that are easy to poll every 60 seconds with scripts? Thanks for any suggestions you might have! [link] [comments]
Can anyone help identify these window sensors? Posted: Hello! First time homeowner looking to start my foray into home automation. All of the windows and doors have these sensors already installed. Can anyone help figure out what they are and if there is anyway that I can utilize them? I'm planning on using zigbee and/or zwave. [link] [comments]

Posted: Hi. I'm in the UK and looking for a 3 gang smart dimmer switch compatible with Alexa and/or HomeKit. Does anyone know of a good one, other than the overpriced lightwave switch (https://lightwaverf.com/collections/smart-lighting/products/smart-dimmer-3-gang?variant=22099123830873) [link] [comments]
N00b looking for recommendations for better value Sensibo alternatives Posted: Hey folks With winter on its way for us in Australia, I'd like create some functionality for our reverse cycle air conditioner/heat pump for keeping the house warm but power efficient. I'm kind of new to this, but am keen to learn. Ultimately, what I'd like to do is build a set up which allows us to set a time based schedule to warm the house in the mornings before we get up, and switch off once the desired temperature is met. Bonus points if we're able to integrate this into our Logitech Harmony Ultimate+Hub (Neither my wife or I are big fans of voice control).
From what I've seen Sensibo seems to tick all of the boxes, but is prohibitively expensive.
Is anyone able to offer any information or guidance on getting started please?
Edit: Worth noting, this is a Daikin split system, can provide model number/s if needed. [link] [comments]
Posted: I have a couple of devices showing up on my Honeywell smart home security system which I do not use anymore. These two devices were installed at my previous home. How do I delete them from my system? The only option I have on the app is to replace. Is there a force delete option? [link] [comments]
What smart home system to use when building a new house in Europe? Posted: As the title says. Got my eyes on Niko Home Control or Fibaro, but weirdly enough there seems to be zero about both on here. Or close to it anyway. What am I missing? [link] [comments]
Dumb and Smart light switch with dimmer? Posted: I'm looking for a light switch like this or like this that can also be turned on/off with a phone or physical remote control. This is for my mother-in-law so she needs a light switch design that she can essentially just hit or easily flick when in the dark that's why the ones I've linked are the ideal light switches. The "smart" part is needed because sometimes she's too tired to get out of bed to turn the lights off. Every smart light switch with dimmers I've seen are too cluttered with options. Posted: I know this has been asked time and time again, but with my hub being bricked in June I'm looking for a replacement. I've had no issues with smartthings so far, besides the new routines replacement (automations) not working fully. I've narrowed it down to Home Seer and Hubitat, or just getting a replacement hub with ST. I have no programming experience, and need compatibility with Z-wave devices, Alexa Ecosystem, and also RBoy or something new for Schlage lock control. From what I saw I would need to spend almost $400 for the hub and software for Homeseer or Hubitat?? [link] [comments]
Best option for alexa/other mics in wall/ceiling? Posted: I'm trying to get Alexa everywhere in my new house. I'll have built in speakers for music, running through some home-wired Sonos amps/ports. For Alexa integration, I am thinking about: - a smoke detector for with Alexa built in — seems like a no brainer idea, downside I guess is switching assistants later would require replacing all the detectors - putting Dots (or whatever) into hidden panels in the ceiling or maybe the walls — have seen a few different mounting products that make that easier. Seems like it would decrease both mic and speaker performance. - whether to try to run the audio FROM these things back to my media rack and then feed it back into the house with some sort of mixer — I'm actually not sure if I want this, and if so how best to get the line level audio signal back to the central zone safely Anyone come up with some great way to do this? I'm willing to DIY something if needed... [link] [comments]
Does anyone have experience with the August Wifi lock vs the previous generation Smart Lock Pro? Posted: I have four Smart Lock Pros, and I'm thinking of upgrading to the newer wifi lock. First, I'm wondering if it's faster to respond to opening. Right now it's ok but I would like it to be faster. The auto-unlock feature works great if I go further away, but I spend much of my time within the bounds of the zone, so it doesn't register when I get home. I'd also like to free up some outlets. The smaller size is nice as well. Any thoughts? [link] [comments]
Moving from SmartThings to Google Nest Hub Posted: Hey guys, I'm a pretty experienced SmartThings user. Sold my house, and new owners are taking my full SmartThings setup. I hated the new version of their app btw. Now that I am getting new place, was thinking of using an all-google setup as I really love their nest hub screens. But I'm wondering, what will I NOT be able to do with google nest? Are door sensors and motion sensors even an option? There is no zigbee and zwave ? [link] [comments]

Posted: Bought a lightly used v3 ST hub and tried setting it up with my recently installed eaton z-wave plus switches. First it started working Ok but after a day or so some switches appeared to be 'offline' deleting them from the hub would not make any difference, I had to force delete by resetting the hardware itself. Once everything was deleted, ST won't add them back into the network, it just says can't communicate with the device. Reset the hub completely and the issue persists. Any ideas? I am about jump ship on ST and try another hub. [link] [comments]

Doubts with TP-Link Tapo C200 ip cam and ISP Posted: I'm gonna try to be as clear as i can, my situation is the following. My ISP doesn't provide a public IP that i can connect to directly, so if use an android phone as IP Cam and try to connect directly to it from outside my home wifi, there is no way to forward the necessary ports. They don't even offer control over the router to enable DMZ or some other possible solutions. So, my question is, does the Tapo C200 streams to a tp-link server when you access the feed through the app, or the app just gives you a direct connection to the local ip (which in my case, wouldn't work). I'm really tempted to buy one but it wouldn't make much sense if i can't access it when i'm not home :/ and i couldn't find anything online regarding something this specific. I was also looking at the "Mi Security Camera 360", but i have the exact same doubts about it. (i chose those 2 cams because there aren't many other models available in my country). Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
Discrete ceiling mount for hubs, APs, mics, etc? Posted: New construction, realizing that I have a lot of misc stuff that I'd like to attach to the ceiling — HA hub, WiFi APs, smoke detectors, maybe even some small Alexa devices. And I'd like some flexibility. In the same way that now it's common to have a recessed plastic box behind a TV for AC and low voltage, I'm looking for something for the ceiling. I'm imagining something sort of like a structured wiring panel, in plastic, with a discrete speaker grill type cover, that you could put stuff in. Or maybe attach the devices to the outside of but at least have some flexible yet discrete wiring and future proofing (eg if I ever wanted to replace a PoE device with an AC powered WiFi device). Does anyone have any ideas for a DIY here, or know of any products? [link] [comments] |
