    Alternative RF bridge that supports a wider range of protocols (not Sonoff)?

    I have some lovely kinetic switches and corresponding sensors / relays that work on 433MHz. However, the codes generated by the switches are not recognised by the Sonoff RF Bridge, and the sensors cannot learn the codes generated by any of my other RF buttons or remotes.

    So, is there another RF bridge that might support more protocols / encoding schemes?

    I'm aware of the NODO RFLink; does anyone know anything about it? Do you get an App (like you do with Sonoff) that can be used to learn new codes easily?

    Aeotech wallswipe and nano dimmer issues

    I have an Aeotech Wallswipe with nano dimmer installed about a year ago. It on occasion turns itself on without any user input and I can't work out why.

    I've tried searching and I can't really find anyone who has had similar problems.

    I'm open to any and all suggeations because it's super irritating as it's connected to a wrap around deck so when the lights turn on at night it wakes eveyone in the house up.

    Question about inline dimmer.

    I have a pendent lamp in the living room with a 7w oversized LED Edison bulb hanging from the ceiling as decoration.

    I have that plugged directly into a Tp-link smart switch which I can turn on/off through home bridge.

    Is it safe to plug an inline dimmer into a smart switch?

    I'm also thinking about doing another but I'd need an extension cord.

    So

    Inline dimmer to an extension to the tp link smart plug.

    Just making sure I'm not causing a potential fire hazard

    My IP-Cam wish-list, am I too picky or is the industry to blame?

    I want to deploy IP-cameras, about 20 of them, but so far I haven't been able to satisfy all the items on my wish-list. This leaves me to wonder: Am I being too picky or is the the ip-cam industry just a data collection entity masquerading as a security option? Here's my wish-list:

    Must:

    • Have decent sensor 1080@30 fps or better.
    • Have onboard, LAN only, browser based configuration.
    • Support RTPS/ONVIF
    • Support or at least be functional on 3rd party software (Blue Iris, iSpy, Zoneminder, VLC, etc)
    • Have wired powered (standard US outlet), Ethernet and WiFi.

    Must NOT:

    • Require any activation via app or website.
    • Require any setup via app or website.
    • Require internet access for any reason whereupon lack of access disables functionality.
    • Require camera output be viewable only through manufacturer's apps, desktop software, or website.
    • Have a microphone and/or speaker. (Further consideration, I can be flexible on this.)
    • Be a product of some no-name, Amazon-only, likely malicious, Chinese company.
    • Cost over $50/ea (I'd like not to spend over $30/ea but I don't want to miss out on a good suggestion).

    I want a cheap camera with basic functionality that I can use on my terms. I don't want microphones planted all over my home, I don't want an array of IoT's phoning back to who knows where, sending who knows what telemetry and exposing my network to who knows what threat, I don't want some garbage cloud or garbage app that will be unsupported a month after I buy the thing, and I don't want to pay out the ass just for the pleasure of a simple LAN only camera system.

    Am I out of my mind here to expect that some manufacturer out there will fill this fringe need, or have I just overlooked one that already is?

    Ethernet adapter for Amazon Fire Tablet 8 HD (10th gen)?

    I'm planning on wall mounting two Amazon Fire Tablet 8 HD (10th gen) for use with Home Assistant. Fortunately I have Cat6 runs to where they're going so I'm planning on powering them using PoE. However, I'm wondering if there's any Ethernet adapter out there that exists for the tablets to be receive both power and data over Cat6. Doing some searching around, I found one for Apple devices but haven't come across any for the Amazon Fire Tablet.

    Edit: Doing some more searching, it looks like this might not even be possible with the Amazon Fire Tablet.

    View rtsp on chromecast via triggercmd

    Hey Guys,

    I've followed the intructions here to show my rtsp feed on a chromecast in the lounge, I couldn't get it to work even just running the batch file, so i've edited it as follows...

    "%PROGRAMFILES%\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" "rtsp://user:pass@192.168.1.89:554/stream2" --sout "#chromecast" --sout-chromecast-ip="192.168.1.82" --demux-filter="demux_chromecast"

    user and pass are my camera username and password, it works when I run the batch file manually - although it takes 30 seconds from clicking the file to it displaying on my lounge tv - is there a way I could make it quicker? - I don't need any audio really, so not sure if it would be quicker by turning that off?

    I get the option of selecting 2 feeds -

    1080P (1920*1080) = stream1360P (640*360) = stream2

    I'm already using the smaller feed to see if its quicker. Does anyone know of anything I could do?

    Also, I click on the batch file, which opens using cmd.exe and then vlc opens - is there a way to stream it through without cmd or vlc actually displaying on my pc screen?

    I've tried --quiet and --dummy-quiet but I still get the dos box and the vlc program loading
    I also tried -I dummy --dummy-quiet which gets rid of the gui, but the dos box stays and the stream doesn't actually play.

    When it comes to smart light bulbs, do I HAVE to choose between using the light switches or turning them on and off with my voice or can I use both when I want?

    I'm new to all this and installed smart lights a few days ago to be used with google assistant to turn them on and off. But google assistant doesn't always get the command right and I don't always want to use my voice to turn them on and off, especially at night when my wife is asleep. Can't I just use voice when I want and the wall switches when I want or does it HAVE to be one or the other?

    Best option to switch from ST for a novice

    I am a total beginner and am looking for the best option for a hub that can be used to keep all my smart device control in one place but also have expandibility if I add more items in the future. I have a ST hub but it has been slow and unreliable even for basic use. I have heard hubitat and HA are for more advanced users so I am wondering what would be the best fit for a novice right now. I'm currently running 5 eaton z-wave plus master switches and 5 eaton add on switches in 3-way and 4-way setups on 4 circuits. I also have a 1st Gen Nest Thermostat, ring floodlight cam, ring doorbell pro and two cheap wifi plugs (wemo and kasa). So what should I get?

    Alternative to SwitchBot Bot and cheapest possible IR transmitter solution?

    Hi,

    Beginner here looking forward to getting started with home automation with Raspberry Pi/Arduino (or similar). I was hoping someone on here can help me out a bit. I'll try to keep it short.

    What I essentially need is to:

    • Create a bridge between my IKEA smart devices that uses Wi-Fi with my LED strips that uses IR remote controllers.
      • I have already created logic to control my IKEA smart devices using Python.
    • Find a cheap alternative to the SwitchBot Bot that simply presses a button/pushes something forward (does not need a lot of strength)

    Noteworthy: I'm planning on buying a Raspberry Pi 4 to use as a PiHole and a server (maybe a hub), but I probably need another Pi/Arduino/etc. in addition to this as an IR transmitter, because the LED lights with IR remote controllers are too far away from where I plan to set up the Pi.

    What I am asking is what should I buy that can do this?

    If anyone could help me out, that would be much appreciated!

    Dahua VTO/VTH issue..

    Hello fellow automators!

    I am having an issue with Dahua doorbell in VTO and dual VTH setup.

    It was already set up and working, until I decided I wanted to upgrade to the latest firmware, because I was bored ( I know, upgrading something with no reason while it is working, it is asking for trouble, and I got trouble)

    After the upgrade, the one VTH stopped registering to the VTO. I reset to factory and set up the system again, I messed around with all the settings and finally got it registering to the VTO and SIP server.

    Now each VTH can call each other, and each can call the main VTO. However, when the VTO calls the villa number 9901 (doorbell button pushed), the VTHs do not ring. If the VTO calls the VTHs individually at 9901#0 or 9901#1 then it works fine for each VTH.

    So I cannot get both the VTH to ring when dialing 9901. Below are all my settings.

    Am I missing something? Any ideas?

    Inovelli red dimmer -switched outlet question, no neutral

    Super dumb question here. I'm looking to install an Inovelli red dimmer switch to control a lamp across the room via smart outlet or smart bulb. The current dumb switch controls an outlet that it doesn't make sense to plug the lamp into due to room layout. So, I want to replace the dumb switch with the inovelli to control the lamp on a different outlet. This is a no neutral setup. The problem is that since there's no load on the switch (lamp not plugged into the switched outlet), the Inovelli won't be powered. My initial thought is to install a bypass in the switched outlet similar to what you would do in a light receptacle where the load is too low to power the switch (ie low wattage led). However, I can't help but think that I'm missing a painfully obvious way to resolve this issue. Any tips (please be gentle, lol)?
