Posted: 01 May 2020 07:42 PM PDT I am getting some work done on my sprinkler system and was thinking about upgrading my controller at the same time. Previous owners have done work in multiple phases so there are actually two systems with controllers in the house, a 3 zone system in the front yard and a single zone drip system in the back yard. I am adding a second zone of sprinklers to the back yard. Because they were put in at different times, the front yard is controlled via a controller in the garage and the back yard via an outdoor controller near the source. They are different brands and both are dumb systems. I have done some research online but was wondering if anyone had any experience with any systems that could do this without two separate controllers? If not, is there a system which would allow control of multiple controllers with a single app. Don't need anything too fancy, just some programming and weather integration. Thanks. Posted: 01 May 2020 03:28 PM PDT I like level lock and their integrated design but am looking for some more functionality. Are their any other options currently on the market or being created? [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 May 2020 10:58 PM PDT Is there a way to use one of the Shelly devices to switch a 220v device? The kicker is that it's split phase. I figure I could probably use two of them with the same switch wired to both shellys. But I want to know if the internet has a better solution. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 May 2020 10:53 PM PDT I'm looking to find out if someone entered the porch (and take some action, such as sound alarm etc). I have tried motion detector but they are very flaky...lot of false alarms (especially with car lights etc). I thought about using IR beam. Any other way I can detect if someone entered the porch area? Also I have a patio which is directly above the porch, I was wondering if I could put something in the patio pointing down for porch entry detection. Building my own home security system and above is one of the pieces. [link] [comments]

cheapest 'remote' temperature sensor - controlled power outlet? Posted: 01 May 2020 08:48 PM PDT What is an inexpensive way to have a power outlet that is controlled by a temperature sensor that's somewhat far from the outlet? I realize there are some outlets with temperature sensors, but usually the sensor is attached by a wire. I want an outlet that is controlled by a remote sensor. I already have an orvibo outlet (S31) but their website doesn't really indicate whether you can control an outlet with this: https://www.orvibo.com/en/product/temp_hum_sensor.html Can't seem to find any info on whether it can, and whether it needs their proprietary home hub. If anyone knows, that would be great also. Things I have already: S31 Orvibo outlet A computer running Windows 24/7 A computer running Linux 24/7 A wifi access point. [link] [comments]
light switch and led bulb recommendation Posted: 01 May 2020 07:55 PM PDT looking for a light switch for an outdoor light I want to be on dusk til dawn. I have a z-wave usb stick recommended here that I plan to set up. I don't need dimmer. So I don't know if I should get a smart z-wave switch or a dumb dusk til dawn. But I don't have a light sensor, so I guess I'll need something smart? Also, which LED bulb brand will work for it. It's for an outdoor can light and I was thinking about getting a downlight since they look nice. Are any brand of those good, or should they be avoided? This is my first step into smart switches and led bulbs and I plan to do a lot more in the future. [link] [comments]
Physical switches or buttons for Wiz lights Posted: 01 May 2020 06:40 PM PDT I'm thinking of replacing a large number of existing led lights with these wiz ones. I normally use Hue but these are so cheap! https://www.homedepot.com/p/Philips-Color-and-Tunable-White-5-6-in-LED-65W-Equivalent-Dimmable-Smart-Wi-Fi-Wiz-Connected-Recessed-Downlight-Kit-555623/310289033 I've tested four of these out and they actually are great. Color is good, brightness is fine, and they react quicker to changes from google assistant and the app than hue lights do. The only question I have now is - what type of buttons can I use to control these? They seem to eventually be coming out with a motion sensor and remote, but there's got to be an option. I'm not looking to go the whole home assistant route atm, so hopefully there's a different way. [link] [comments]

Alexa routine to play local sound file on device Posted: 01 May 2020 04:40 PM PDT Is there any way to get a routine to play a specific sound file on my phone? When a door is opened, I want to play a sound file on my device (or I can upload the file to wherever). When the door is opened Alexa routines have the option to play music (from Amazon Music) or sounds (predefined sound files in Alexa). But I want to play my own sound file. Is there a way to do it? If it can't be done natively is there a skill that can enable this? TIA! [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 May 2020 04:27 PM PDT I have an established Python script "EnvControl" I use to control my minisplits (using Sensibo Sky units, Internet API calls, and Temp/Humidity sensors). I'd like to add "EnvControl" as a "device" in Home Assistant so automation may be used to tell "EnvControl" to adjust the target temperature, and maybe so "EnvControl" can tell Home Assistant its current state. I'm a professional programmer, but I'm very new to Home Assistant. Any suggestions on how this might be achieved? I'd love to make "EnvControl" discoverable by Home Assistant so it can automatically set itself up as a device, but I'd be happy manually defining a custom device that in the backend is a bunch of API calls to "EnvControl". Many thanks! [link] [comments]
Searching for motion sensor to trigger vacuum Posted: 01 May 2020 04:09 PM PDT I want to buy a motion sensor to trigger a vacuum. Any ideas on motion sensors I could buy to execute the scenario below? The motion sensor would detect that there has been activity in a particular room for more than 5 minutes, and once activity has ceased, it should trigger a robot vacuum to clean that room (a zone defined by the robot vacuum) [link] [comments] |
