Is there a way to turn Hue lights on instantly (no fade)?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2021 07:28 PM PDT

I have a Hue light strip and when the trigger turns it on, it takes a good second or so and then fades on. Is there a way to make the strip turn on instantly rather than fade 0-100%? I can't find anything in the Hue app for fade settings. Using Home Assistant as well.

    Nest wiring for test bench?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2021 02:08 PM PDT

I am coding a plugin and need to power up a nest thermostat - it is not going to be physically connected to a HVAC system during testing. It has been a while, but I recall needing to jumper some things to get the unit to power up. Any suggestions?

I do have the 24vAC transformer and POSITIVE is connected to C and NEGATIVE is connected to RH of the terminal block.

At present, the device is not powering on. I do see life when I connect it to usb power.

    Best Smart Door Knob?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2021 09:22 AM PDT

So I need a smart door knob that I can unlock with alexa but also still uses a a normal key. If it can unlock with nfc or fingerprint thats a bonus but it doesnt need to have those 2 features. What are the best smart knobs on the market? I've seen a lot of good smart deadbolts but I dont have much interest in installing a deadbolt in my door.

    Not expensive automation systems suggestions.

    Posted: 06 Apr 2021 07:16 AM PDT

Hey everyone, I am owner of small and young electrical installation business from east europe and I would like to start smart home installations for people that might not have enough money for expensive systems such as knx or loxone, could you recommend me or suggest any systems on what should i choose and learn? I am reading about various different automation ideas and there is just too much. Right know i am thinking about HA. What i like about HA is that the hardware is cheap, everything looks easy to install and HA also works with many different devices. But the problem is I also read a lot of negative comments about HA using for clients because it might have lots of problems such as after update it might stop working. Can someone share their ideas and insights at what should i look at? Or maybe i think too much and HA is an obvious choice for this?

TL;DR I want to install home automation for clients. Can you recommend me any not expensive systems such as HA? Or maybe HA is the obvious choice?

Are any hubs compatible with Wyze devices?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2021 08:45 AM PDT

I have a few bulbs and a thermostat from Wyze. I'm looking to start replacing switches in my house.
I'm considering zwave/zigbee but if my hub can't see my thermostat, that would kinda suck. I have a google home mini and the Wyze devices are connected to that. Would that google home connection allow the hub to see the wyze devices?

    Automate EU switches

    Posted: 06 Apr 2021 01:59 AM PDT

    Hello automated friends,

I am searching a bit everywhere for quite some time now but cannot really find the answers to my automated switch situation.

I live in Europe, I therefore have European switch boxes.

I have existing switches with neutral wires and a couple (unimportant ones) without neutral wires.

The ideal would be to automate those switches:

    A) While retaining the mechanical switch function (WAF).

    B) While avoiding fire hazard (For instance Shelly 1PM seems to be safer than Shelly 1?)

    C) While keeping automation local and not depending on some cloud

    Potential solutions I identified:

    1) Replacing switches

But It seems hard to find the right size, also it won't necessarily fit the style of the house, in any case it needs to have mechanical function.

I did not really find suitable replacement in Europe and I would prefer to keep my switches.

    2) Using Shelly 1

Seems easy enough to install, plenty of operating modes, European certifications (CE?).

But I will need several devices and I'm afraid to slow down my WIFI.

Also, should I go to 1PM because they have overheat detectors as opposed to the 1?

I am no electrician but I can and have replaced switches in the past.

    3) Using Sonoff Mini Zigbee

I do have a Conbee stick attached to a Home Assistant Hub, I hope those would work together.

Zigbee is nice, low energy, does not take my router attention.

I have read somewhere that those are not suited for Europe (CE, UL, I know nothing about those certifications?).

For now it seems like the best best.

What do you guys think? Is there a better solution I haven't think of? Have I misunderstood pros and cons in those solutions? Are there some people here in the same situation? Is there an easy solution for the switches without neutral as well?

Turning off monitors with Smart plugs - google home

    Posted: 06 Apr 2021 04:18 AM PDT

Hi. I'm wondering if this is safe to turn off monitors with smart plugs using google home voice commands. When I say "turn off", I mean "turning off monitors by unplugging them from smart socket with voice while they are still on - without pressing a button on their cases". Can it cause any damage?

Is there an offline smart home assistant people could use on a disconnected LAN? That way people worried about network security could put an Internet connected speaker in their house to control it but the home couldn't be hacked (over the Internet)

Best way to automate or use a dashboard for the devices i have in my smart home?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2021 03:01 AM PDT

    Hello

I am from the UK and a new member, i have SONOS, Hue lighting, Velux Integra roof windows, Smartlife door sensors and flood leak sensors, Ring cameras/doorbells for human detection, Sonoff relays running some signage lighting and hikvision/pyronix cctv running 4k cameras, Nest smoke sensors.

been using seperate apps for years to manage these but now im wanting to venture into automating things, IFTTT just doesnt seem as powerful as people say.

I have been looking at having some sort of dashboard touchscreen devices around the house which do the following:

    1. Show the ring doorbell when motion is detected or the button is pressed
    2. Have the sonos speakers listed with the current input types (i.e. show if its line in-aux or spotify playing)
    3. Have buttons to switch hue lights on
    4. have buttons to switch on the sonoff relays to light up the property name sign outside
    5. Do some automated tasks, such as when ring detects human, turn on hue lights on the driveway.
    6. Show me the status of the Nest smoke sensors instead of having to use the mobile app to check for messages (incase one goes offline)
    7. Have a stream from the hikvision cameras on a tile showing the driveway camera all the time

Please could i have some recommendations on how to achieve these?

    Thanks!

    C By GE switches

    Posted: 06 Apr 2021 12:06 AM PDT

Anyone have any luck with C by GE switches connected to Alexa? I have other GE smart switches that work perfectly fine. C By GE switches work great in the GE app but are always non responsive on Alexa app. I've disabled /unlinked several times with no luck to get them to connect (or stay connected) with Alexa.
