Has anyone integrated Facebook messenger chatbots to send notifications and receive commands? Posted: 25 Jun 2020 05:43 PM PDT I have a household on a facebook group and was thinking of automatically sending them warning information from a sensor, but I'm not sure if this is really viable or worth the time. Plus I can't determine if chatbots are allowed in facebook group chats. Does anyone know? What have been your experiences? I plan on using MQTT + Home Assistant + Node Red. [link] [comments]

Has anyone had luck with Inovelli Red dimmer switches updating their status to ZWave2MQTT? Posted: 25 Jun 2020 11:33 PM PDT I'm experiencing this issue, and don't know where to go from here. Here's my setup:
Turning on the light from the switch does not update the LEVEL in ZWave2MQTT, so therefore I believe it isn't updating Home Assistant's switch state. Here's my log when turning on from Home Assistant: Here's the log from when I physically press the switch: Any Inovelli experts out there who might be able to help shed some light on this? Room fans that have buttons that turn off/on. Is there a way to automate these? Posted: 25 Jun 2020 07:07 PM PDT I've got some floor fans that don't use mechanical switches to turn them off/on. They've got buttons that you trigger something electronic. Is there a way to make these more mechanical so I could plug into a smart switch to automate them? [link] [comments]

Posted: 25 Jun 2020 03:49 PM PDT I was trying to setup an old phone on Imperihome and kept getting an error that my password was incorrect. I stupidly logged out of the app on my current phone and tried to log back in and now I see that the company is going, or has gone, under. So now I am in the process of looking for an alternative to Imperihome. I still do run Imperihome on 2 of my tablets, but at some point in the future, I'm sure the connection may die off. I use IH for the simple control of lights, as well as it being a clock. When someone rings my doorbell, the view changes to the camera feed so I can see them. Additionally I use it to make announcements throughout the house. If it is hot outside and someone has left a window open. It announces to shut the window and then displays all the door/window sensors. I've found Home Assistant, but I'm not sure if it is as easy to setup and manage as IH was. I also don't know if it will do everything, like the voice announcements. Anyone have any suggestions to replace IH? And I should note that I have a Vera HA controller, so the use of Smart Tiles from ST's won't work. TIA all. [link] [comments]
Temperature Sensor for BBQ to notify if left on Posted: 25 Jun 2020 09:58 AM PDT Are there any high-temp sensors out there that could be used around a BBQ? I usually let the BBQ run for 5-10 minutes after cooking to burn off some of the meat and I forgot the other day letting it run for a good hour or two before I happened to check it. I'd love to set something up that would notify me if the temp was above a certain range for a set time. [link] [comments]
Disable temperature sensor in Samsung SmartThings motion detector? Posted: 25 Jun 2020 09:49 PM PDT Anyone know if it's possible to disable the temp sensor? I looked around in the ST app, but didn't see any setting. [link] [comments]
Color temp adjustable led puck lights. Posted: 25 Jun 2020 07:17 AM PDT I'm remodeling an older house and adding lots of the flat led lights. Lots of them have adjustable color temps but the color temp is adjusted with a physical switch that is inaccessible after they are installed. Does anyone know of one that I can adjust the color temp using automation? The Philips wiz lights are pretty close to what I want but I'm not sure about the wiz protocol since it isn't as open an the hue protocol. The hue led lights are significantly more but are looking like what I may have to use if I don't want to be stuck with lights that require commands be sent to the internet to adjust them. What I would really like is an led puck that uses a protocol like Zwave or some other open home automation standard to adjust the color temp. Does anyone have any suggestions. [link] [comments]
Non-chinese robot vacuums/mops Posted: 25 Jun 2020 06:44 PM PDT What are the best robot vacuums/mops that are either (a) made by non-Chinese companies or even better (b) not made in China? [link] [comments]
Nest, Ring, Lutron, Z-wave combo - best hub? Posted: 25 Jun 2020 01:04 PM PDT I have a few Nest thermostats, a Ring security system (and camera), some Lutron Caseta in-wall switches and dimmers, and some other Z-wave switches. I've poked around at most of the bigger hub brands but am having a bit of trouble finding one that can support all of them in some way. Am I just dreaming that there's a hub out there that will let me add and control all of these devices from different manufacturers? Any help or thoughts are greatly appreciated! Smart lock with webhook request? Posted: 25 Jun 2020 06:29 AM PDT Hi all, Ever since a couple years ago I've always thought of the Amazon Key product as ingenious (to get recordings whenever someone is delivering your packages, but only then). I've recently been thinking how something like that can be made in a more DIY manner so that it can work with any type of delivery not just Amazon. My preliminary thoughts are that 3 independent devices are required: 1) Wyze sensor - to detect when a front door is opened, and able to send a webhook (through IFTTT or something similar) to some custom server url or serverless function 3) Smart lock that supports multiple keypad entry combinations so that one can be dedicated for deliveries, must also support webhooks. For example if a POST request with a json body containing the lock # entered can be sent to that custom endpoint, that lambda function can then check if it's the dedicated delivery combo that was entered, and if so, activate recording of internet-connected camera 3) the camera - must support remote recording activation. I've only tried a few different ones so far like the Wyze cam and some other cheap ones on Amazon but haven't dived too deep on the research yet to see which ones support this functionality. Anyone know if there is one that does? So that in the lambda function it knows to send an authenticated POST request to some other endpoint which is responsible for starting the recording. Those are the 3 devices I can see being required. The final functional requirement would be having the webhook event for when the Wyze sensor detects the door being closed - that must be tied to another function which checks if there is an ongoing recording, and if so, to stop it. Does anyone have experience with creating a system that I attempted to describe above, or suggestions for making it more feasible? The smart lock is the one component I'm most stumped on. After having done a few hours research on various offerings earlier this month I couldn't find any mention to webhook support. However I see that the August brand is on IFTTT and there are existing actions resulting from unlocking the door (https://ifttt.com/applets/bkgaZ8CM-play-a-spoken-notification-when-someone-unlocks-the-door). So I assume more flexibility is supported, to use webhooks instead? [link] [comments]
Humidity Sensor (z-wave/smartthings) Posted: 25 Jun 2020 02:00 PM PDT Hello ... I'm looking for a zwave/SmartThings compatible humidity sensor. I'd really like one that does temp/humidity only. I don't need motion, light, UV, vibration ... anyone know of a simpler device that would meet my needs? [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Jun 2020 01:50 PM PDT I've searched on eBay as well as alibaba and couldn't find anything like an iPad mount except for an old iPhone. If anyone here has any experience with this, could point me in the right direction or is interested in starting to sell them by 3D printing them, please let me know. [link] [comments]
Recycle a Paradox security installation Posted: 25 Jun 2020 06:20 AM PDT I bought recently an apartment and there is a security system installed. It is from paradox and the controller board says "728 Ultra". There are smoke and movement detectors installed in every room. I would like to reuse anything I can to start with some automation but I dont have a clue about how this system is working. Anything, from very basic to very expert will help me discover what to do with this. How to interact with the detectors? Substitute them with another device with the same cables? How to connect to the Paradox board? Maybe connect a RPi to the installation? ... [link] [comments]

Help with turning off a device based on my location Posted: 25 Jun 2020 10:09 AM PDT Hey everyone, I'm new to home automation and hoping someone might be able to help me with this. I have a SmartThings hub, Alexa devices, Meross smart plugs and an iPhone. I would like the meross smart plug to automatically turn off if I leave my house. Is this something that can be done? Any help would be amazing, thanks! [link] [comments]
Help with synchronising Mirabella Genio RGB strip lights Posted: 25 Jun 2020 09:28 AM PDT I just bought 3 rgb Mirabella Genio strip lights and set them up in my room using the app but I'm struggling to figure out how to make them sync together so their colours/patterns are matching. Any ideas on how I can sync them? Also, as of right now, I don't have a Google home/Amazon Alexa. [link] [comments]
Rotary push switch with dimmer functionality? Posted: 25 Jun 2020 09:16 AM PDT I really like the tactile feel of having a rotary switch that you can press to turn a light on or off, and rotate to manage brightness. While trying to smartify my house with Home Assistant, using smart plugs, door/window sensors, etc, I've come upon a roadblock. I can't find any such switch for sale! Below is what I have considered, but so far I haven't found a solution that will work perfectly. Use dumb rotary dimmer, with Shelly/similar in-wall dimmer behind it Pros:

Perhaps there is a much simpler answer, which is a product that already does this with an esp8266 controller or something else that can be used locally (without cloud connectivity). Do you know anything like that? I am unsure how to proceed, but if anyone else has successfully accomplished this, I would be very happy to hear your solution! Anything from BLE, Zigbee, or Wifi are all good, as long as no cloud connectivity is required. In case it matters, I am in the EU [link] [comments] |
