Has anyone tried using an auxiliary switch (WA-100) with one of the Zooz 3-way dimmers?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 09:18 PM PDT

I have a bunch of Zooz 3-way dimmers with the 2nd switch being a regular dumb switch. Zooz offers a momentary switch (ZAC99) that adds dimming capability to the dumb switch, but the switch only has one button - it's not intuitive to use as it deviates from the two-button design the Zooz switches have.

I notice that HomeSeer (HS-WA100+) and ZLink (ZL-WA-100) seem have the two button design that I'm looking for. Does anyone know if these switches would work with the Zooz dimmer (likely ZEN22 comparing the installation diagram)? Would the auxiliary switch function like a normal dimmer (tap upper paddle = on, tap lower paddle = off, etc.)?

Does a hub such as Smart-things or hubitat allow me to simplify using both Amazon and Google?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 03:13 PM PDT

    Forgive my ignorance,

Im going to have devices from both groups, i.e Google Nest Hub Max and then an Amazon Echo Flex.

Will setup and connection with a hub allow me to create the whole task. Then on both Google and Amazon device assign this task to a trigger phrase for both to cover all bases?

Is it as simple as this or is there something more complicated im missing?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 07:08 PM PDT

    MQTT - Homebridge help

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 06:55 PM PDT

I am trying to get an ESP8266 sensor working with the data published to HomeKit, but failing miserably. I am hoping someone can give me some pointers on where I am going wrong.

    ESP8266 w/ DHT11 sensor

    -Running Tasmota

    Ip Address : 10.0.0.39

    MQTT Host 10.0.0.11:1883

    Device Name: Desk

    Friendly Name 1 (Tasmota): Desk

    Raspberry Pi (Homebridge/Mosquito)

    IP: 10.0.0.11

So far as I can tell Mostquito is running, but other than a hello world test I am not sure how to test this. Or confirm that it is getting MQTT reports from the sensor.

    Homebridge:

    Plugin: Homebridge Mqttthing

    Type: Temp Sensor

    Name: Desk

    MQTT Settings

    URL: http://10.0.0.11:1883

    GetCurrent Temp: getCurrentTemperature

What is happening: The accessory "Desk" shows up in HomeKit, but the temperature is 32 degrees. Just a touch cooler than it actually is on my desk.

    Deciding what platform to use

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 02:52 PM PDT

    Hello,

I am debating between google and amazon for home automation. I have a nest thermostat, a myQ garage door.

    • I was wanting to have smart lights in each room that i could simply say a command and could turn them off and on, even dim. I would like to be able to tell what room to turn on and off.
    • I would like to be able to ask my nest to set my house to a certain temperature, or ask what temperature is current inside the home then adjust accordingly.
    • I would like to be able to have a speaker in each room and listen to music throughout the house and say a command in nearly any room and be heard.
      • This would be spotify
    • I would like to be able to ask if my garage door is open or closed currently, and also command it to open or close accordingly.
    • Create a shopping list and pull that up on my phone at a later time. add items to said list as via saying a command that is over heard.
    • Turn the volume up and down on my TV (might be difficult because i have a soundbar connected to my TV thats IR only)

Thanks for any help or suggestions on setting this up.

Which Integration Platform Would Best Fit My Needs?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 05:10 PM PDT

    Good afternoon everyone!

I currently use Alexa to control several smart plugs, light switches, and alarm system (Alarm.com).

Alarm.com (ADC) and Alexa have an automation platform that allows setting up simple rules and routines. However, I'd like to be able to do more complex operations.

Example: If it's after sunset and the front door is opened, turn on the front porch light.

    • I have looked at HomeAssistant, but it no longer works with ADC.
    • Giving HomeBridge a test drive, it doesn't have any scene/rule creation and appears to rely on HomeKit. We do not own any Apple products.

Is there an integration platform that is compatible with ADC & Alarm.com?

Will HomeBridge do rules/routines/scenes (without HomeKit) and I overlooked it?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

    Help With Sengled Smart Kit

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 05:02 PM PDT

Recently got the sengled smart kit and the set up was simple. I set up thebulbs in my living room and everything was working fine, however, once I moved them to my bedroom where I want them to be, the app is saying that they are offline. It only shows they're online in my living room. Does anyone now how to solve this issue?

Best doorbell and security cameras for Alexa

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 04:58 PM PDT

Hey all! Looking to upgrade some of my cameras and add a new doorbell camera. My goal is to have less apps to manage all this crap. I'm an Alexa home which I'm happy with. Replacing three Amazon cloud cams (which has since been discontinued).Have one echo with a screen so it would be sweet to have the video feed there and also alerts on other devices. I also have a nest thermostat and smoke detector...but after looking at nest hello doorbell I'm thinking that's probably not the best route unless I want to move fully to Google. I still never migrated my nest account to Google so I can still control nest with my Alexa. /r/Cameras

Ways to connect Google Home/Assistant to Purple Air?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 04:52 PM PDT

I would like to automate my fans and air purifiers based on data from Purple Air. For instance: https://www.purpleair.com/map?opt=1/mAQI/a10/cC0#1/25/-30 (also https://fire.airnow.gov/).

That first link gives access to JSON, DATA.JSON, and embedded code:

    <div id='PurpleAirWidget_34091_module_AQI_conversion_C0_average_10_layer_standard'>Loading PurpleAir Widget...</div> <script src='https://www.purpleair.com/pa.widget.js?key=K78AIWQIU2JYIYKP&module=AQI&conversion=C0&average=10&layer=standard&container=PurpleAirWidget_34091_module_AQI_conversion_C0_average_10_layer_standard'></script>

There is also documentation here, but I don't understand it well: https://www.purpleair.com/sensorlist?key=K78AIWQIU2JYIYKP&show=34091

Can this data be used for automation with Google Assistant?

    Capacitive Touch Intercom

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 04:49 PM PDT

I have an Elvox 7539 at my place. The plugs in the back are labeled: M, FP, 2, 1

I bought a Switchbot, but failed to think about the intercom's capacitive touch keypad. Is there any way to get around this? I have taken apart the intercom before (I own it, not rent), and would be fine installing something within the intercom.

Do I just buy another intercom (not sure how this works as I live in a co-op and don't know if I have to check some compatibility issues)?

    I own a SmartThings Hub.

    Retrofit Ring Alarm system

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 12:49 PM PDT

    Hey guys,

My first post here. Not sure if this is the right sub. But would appreciate your help.

I just bought a home 2010 built. Trying to upgrade it to smart home. Starting with Ring alarm system.

Previous owner had ADT and has sensors installed already. They don't appeared to be wired sensors and wireless sensors (I'm not sure if ADT has wireless?) Please see attached link for pictures.

    sensor

    sensor

Can I use Ring Retrofit To utilize all these sensors? If yes, then how so? Where can I locate the "ADT hub" to wire the retrofit kit?

    Thank you so much guys!

Have a tablet, what can I do?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 07:59 PM PDT

Hey, relatively new to this sub so sorry if this question gets asked a lot - I have a Windows tablet doing nothing right now and I'd love to set it up as a screen near the front door. Is this just a case of downloading an app and leaving that running 24/7 or installing a new OS over the Windows? Where would I start with this? Thanks!

Virtual Device between Homeseer and Google Home?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 02:25 PM PDT

It seems like the virtual device makes scenes in assistant well enough. Which support the voice commands and affecting the state of a device in another controller.

However, google home does not appear to be able to display a scene status of on or off.

Basically, is there a workaround to see the status off the google home devices outside of google home? Or see the status of virtual devices/scenes inside of google home?
