Samsung Smart Things Automations Feel Laggy and Clunky? Posted: 30 Aug 2020 12:16 AM PDT Hey there, I just started experimenting with a smart things button and two Sengled Zigbee Smart Bulbs. I set up a few basic automations (press button to turn on lights, press button to turn off lights, double press button to change to a colored scene at 50% intensity). So far everything has felt pretty laggy and buggy. I don't mind a slight delay when pressing the button, however one light will often turn on before the other. Likewise when jumping to the scene the lights will stay at the intensity of whatever was set beforehand then one light will turn to the color, then the next, then one light will dim then the other will start dimming. Sometimes this happens quickly, other times it's a little slow. It almost feels like the lights are getting their parameters one by one, when they should literally just jump to blue at 50% when I select the scene. I have my hub connected via ethernet to a pretty robust router with a gigbit fiber internet connection. Honestly I barely have any devices connected to anything (just moved). So I don't think RF or device overload is a factor here. However I do want to do some pretty advanced automations in the future, and this general clunkiness has me worried. Am I doing something wrong here? Or is the technology just not where I thought it would be? [link] [comments]

Ethernet controlled light switch Posted: 29 Aug 2020 05:45 PM PDT So there was a post about this on this sub 2 yrs ago which didn't really go anywhere and I'm hoping something has come along for this by now. I'm building a new home and wiring Ethernet essentially everywhere. I know I could use z-wave for this but would love to have the reliability and durability of a wired connection. What I want to do is have my light switches connected to Ethernet as well as mains and route all the Ethernet back to one location. And then somehow hook those up to Home Assistant to control the lights. My googling hasnt turned up anything that would allow this. Is there a good solution for this? Is Ethernet not the right thing to use? Is there something else I should be using? As much as possible, I want to stick to an open standard. If all else fails, I can buy the GE z wave light switches but I'm hoping there's an Ethernet or wired alternative. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Need advice on buying a Bluetooth audio receiver Posted: 29 Aug 2020 10:41 PM PDT We have two outdoor speakers on our house pointing at our deck. I have an old radio powering them right now but I'd like to replace it with a nice audio receiver. The couch on our deck is about 20 feet away from the speakers so I need something I can control with either Bluetooth or wifi. I need more than just Bluetooth sound transfer, I need something I can fully control using an app on my phone. Does anyone own a receiver like this? Or have a brand you can recommend? Wiring up LED Strip Power Supply? Posted: 29 Aug 2020 06:40 PM PDT Im new to this and about to order my first LED strip, power supply, and controllers. I am looking to do three setups but the biggest one is a 44' run to go around my covered pergola outside. I will need a 300 watt power supply and wondering what cables to use to wire it up? I am going to need to go from an outlet to the power supply. Should just cut a standard computer power cord and wire them up with the stands? If not, what should i use? I am going with a zooz Zen 31 controller. What cable should i use to go from the power supply to the controller? Same computer power cord cables? I also need to inject power at the start and end of the LED stand for sure (again 44') but thinking I may need to do it every quarter (start, end, 25% in and 75% in) to avoid dimming of the LED's at the end (or middle based on wiring). What are your thoughts here? Will i need 2? 3? 4? The PED strands have a female to male ends on them, but how can i inject power in them? Is there a simple connector i can use? Going with RGBWW IP 65 - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32903257649.html power - https://www.amazon.com/MEAN-WELL-LRS-350-24-350-4W-Switchable/dp/B013ETVO12/ [link] [comments]

Google Home responds "Videos aren't available on Pandora" Posted: 29 Aug 2020 05:04 PM PDT I believe this started when I hooked up my old Chromecast, but every time I ask my Home Mini to "Play <station name> station on Pandora" it responds "Videos aren't available on Pandora." I don't know if something else changed but I can't figure out what command I need to say to get radio stations to play anymore. This only happens in my living room that has my Roku TV and Chromecast. My bedroom will understand my command and play stations correctly. [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Aug 2020 04:54 PM PDT I have followed all recommendations thus far. The garage door beeps and connects to the WiFi, however the app hangs up after connection and won't let me name or save the opener. Thoughts? [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Aug 2020 04:28 PM PDT Does anyone make a smart ceiling fan switch that doesn't require separate loads for the fan and light? I want to replace the in wall remote switch, but I can't find any connected version. Seems like a trivial product to make, given how many different versions of the in wall remote mostly exist. But the only ones I can find require separate light and fan loads. [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Aug 2020 04:13 PM PDT So I have an issue and am looking for a solution. I have a Google Home Mini that was given to me a few years back. Never really used beyond music but recently wanted to be able to control some lights. I have a FireTv with Alexa as well. My tv and lights are connected to both the Google and Alexa. Google though seems to always drop the link to the lights whereas the Echo doesn't. The Alexa control work fine with my phone but it defeats the purpose of hands free, I don't have google or alexa enabled on my phone to always on. Is there a reason the Google keeps dropping the connection to the lights and the Alexa keeps it? Should I just bite the bullet and get an Echo? I know they are cheap, but so am I. The lights are Feit Electric leds, if it matters. [link] [comments]

myQ won’t let me notify if a door is left open past a certain time of day? Posted: 29 Aug 2020 09:27 AM PDT I got yelled at by my s/o for leaving my garage door open all night. In my weak defence, I should have gotten a notification from myQ, but didn't. Now I realize the entire functionality I depend on seems to have been removed from version 5.162.42816? I can set an alert if a door is openED, closed, or stopped, but not if it's left open past a certain time. This is the primary reason I bought it and, if that feature was removed for some reason, this thing is going in the trash. It seems more likely that they updated the UI and it's not clear how this functionality works now. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Aug 2020 01:09 PM PDT Does anyone other than Insteon make toggle-style (not Decora) wall switches? I love my Insteon kit but it's all about 12 years old and some of my switches are failing. I'm happy to consider alternatives but all of the switches in my house are standard toggle switches, and almost all smart switches are Decora style. Purely for aesthetic reasons, I'm not interested in mixing styles. I control everything locally, so cloud integration is not a requirement, and in fact I wouldn't even allow it. I'd be perfectly fine with new Insteon toggle switches, but I figured I'd check and see what else is out there. [link] [comments]
Looking to further increase WiFi network capacity. Posted: 29 Aug 2020 11:24 AM PDT I've already set up 3 different routers as separate access points to alleviate the strain of having a large amount of WiFi connections, and it's been working well up until recently. My main network (used for phones, computers, etc.) had been working great until I decided to add a couple of wyze cams as baby monitors and I've noticed a pretty substantial slowdown of my WiFi network lately. One of the Wyze cams is streaming to Blue Iris 24/7, the other one is only used every once in a while. On top of streaming to Blue Iris, we also use the Wyze app to stream to a tablet as a baby monitor throughout the night, which obviously uses up even more bandwidth. I've hardwired everything I can, and connected most of my wireless (WiFi) smart home devices to my secondary AP's (each AP is on its own router with dhcp disabled), but they are lower quality routers than the one I'm using for my main network (WRT1900) and I found they were lagging and causing connection issues with my smart speakers (echos/google homes), so I've been forced to move a handful of my smart home devices to my main network. My question is, would I be better suited to add another router to my network (I was thinking wrt3200 for my main AP, but I'm definitely open to suggestions for newer/better routers), or adding something like a Ubiquiti AP? I'm not extremely well versed on networking, so I'm not sure if adding one of these AP's will increase my capacity or just extend the range of an existing AP. The MU-MIMO technology in the WRT3200 intrigued me, as it sounds like it would be quite beneficial in my circumstance, but I'm not entirely sure, so this is why I thought I'd ask on here! Also, I'm using zigbee devices wherever possible (Phillips Hue, Aqara sensors, etc.), but most of my switches are WiFi, as well as a few of my lights, two of my cameras, 3 Harmony Hubs, 7 or 8 Echo/GH's, some homemade ESP32/8266 devices/sensors, two always on tablets, two computers that I'm unable to connect with ethernet, 2 phones, a printer, and I'm sure there are other devices I'm forgetting. I've tried splitting them up as much as possible across the 3 routers I'm using as AP's (each with their own SSID), but it feels like I've hit their limits (also, I've spaced the 2.4ghz channels as far as possible). Any help would be appreciated! [link] [comments]

How to remove ZWave Device no Longer connected to 2gig system. Posted: 29 Aug 2020 10:27 AM PDT I have a GE ZWave Light Switch that had an internal failure causing my breaker to trip. Needless to say I had to remove it. From all I'm aware, in order to remove a ZWave device from a 2gig system is to discover the device and then "forget it". I can no longer discover this device since it has failed, and therefore I cannot remove it and getting errors on my 2gig system. Help? [link] [comments]
Can you recommend a good 4 gang smart dimmer light switch? Posted: 29 Aug 2020 08:42 AM PDT I've been looking at this Lightwave Smart Series Dimmer (4 Gang) which ticks all the boxes for me in that there are four channels that can be raised and lowered intuitively for others. However, this model requires a separate hub which is added on this switches already large price tag. Sonoff have some switches but at most is 3 channels and they're not dimmers. Can anyone recommend something similar? [link] [comments] |
