Posted: 29 Apr 2021 07:53 PM PDT Hello! I recently purchased my first condo, and wanted to get a foot into the Smarthome game with a lighting set up, found some affordable WiZ bulbs at Home Depot, which seemed great, I'm satisfied with the brightness and colours, and being able to yell at Alexa to control them. But, I am running into issues with my WiFi and Ethernet dropping out, the ISP technician said he had never seen so many devices connected (16 bulbs, 3 smart sockets, 2 PC on Ethernet, a phone, and an amazon Firestick) and that is why I was having issues. I have fiber and swear I read my modem can support up to 255 simultaneous connections. Is there something I can buy or setting I can adjust to rectify the situation? Or is this something I just need to accept my fate and return my bulbs? I appreciate any and all advice, Cheers [link] [comments]

Suggestions for home automation for adhd and chronically ill Posted: 30 Apr 2021 12:13 AM PDT I know nothing about this sort of stuff, but I think it could be quite handy. I have adhd and struggle with daily routines and household cleaning structure. I'm also chronically ill with an autoimmune disease that eats away at my joints so I've got arthritis and fatigue, which means doing more than sitting on the couch all day is hard for me. How can I use something like google home to my advantage? [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Apr 2021 10:23 PM PDT Hi all, I recently moved into a new house and would like to setup some cameras. In my last house I had a ring doorbell, Arlo cameras, Nest thermostat, SmartThings hub, and several zwave light switches. As background, all my network gear is Ubiquiti. So with that as background, I'd like to get a doorbell with camera and probably 2 other outdoor cameras. I'm debating if I should still use the Arlo cameras. I think I have 2 original ones and 2 Arlo pro 2's. So, I could get an Arlo doorbell and use my existing cameras. My wife really likes ring, so I could go that route. Or I could go with nest or UniFi doorbells and cameras. Any advice on which setup people like the most would be great! [link] [comments]
Which streamers work outdoors? Posted: 29 Apr 2021 12:28 PM PDT Hi, We are building an outdoor kitchen area and i was wondering what streamers will put up with the heat and humidity outside? Where we live it gets very humid and can get up to 110+F. My preference is nvidia shield, or maybe google tv. I couldn't find anything searching. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Change Hive owner to house co-owner? Posted: 29 Apr 2021 03:07 AM PDT British Gas installed the Hive this week, and I was advised to set up the account in the name of my father (current property owner and British Gas customer), however, I am likely to become the owner of the property myself within the next 12 months. I paid my father to have Hive installed - can I change myself to the owner of the device? I don't want to pay for a new hub etc when this one won't be removed from the property. My father is interested in having Hive installed at his other property, would he be able to buy a hub and then I give him the one registered at my property, and I register the new one here as myself as the owner? Or can we change it so that I am the owner of the hub at his current property once he is no longer the owner? I am currently the co-owner of the property within the app on his account. Posted: 29 Apr 2021 05:26 PM PDT Looking to use this zooz relay to connect to my furman power conditioner 12v trigger. The idea is to have it "always on". This will have all outlets on. Then a switch or google voice could reset the switched outlets. Another recommendation welcome [link] [comments]
Best Way to Hide Under Tread Lighting Posted: 29 Apr 2021 02:02 PM PDT Since this is more on the automation side and not focusing on the installation, this may not be the best sub for this question. I am getting ready to finish out our new staircase and want to run under tread lighting for it. I am having trouble figuring out the best way to hide the lighting in my head. I planned to use Retrotreads that have a cove molding built into nosing. Sort of like thishttps://www.lowes.com/pd/11-5-in-x-42-in-Brown-Unfinished-Red-Oak-Stair-Tread/1001070984 I was thinking of pushing out the whole tread to create a gap between the cove molding and the riser. Is there a cuttable led strip that has a diffusor built in and is 1/4" wide or narrower? [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Apr 2021 01:52 PM PDT All of the bulbs I have tried are hub/Zigbee based, not WiFi or Bluetooth ones. I've been sent both Element Color Plus and Smart LED Color bulbs in two different orders from Amazon when I thought I was ordering the Sengled Smart LED Color bulbs both times. The Element Colors don't work with the Sengled hub I bought from Best Buy (although I have two Element Classic bulbs in Cool White that do work with the hub, which also confuses me). I'm trying to figure out what the difference between the Element bulbs and the Smart LED bulbs is. Are the Elements an older model? Aside: The confusion of trying to work with two different Sengled hub models (not plugged in at the same time) and a lack of indication of which types of their bulbs work with x or y hub model and which bulb model numbers actually have color effects despite sharing the same exact product name with other bulbs in the same line has given me a headache all around. At this point, I'm kinda regretting not just sucking up the price and going with Hue. [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Apr 2021 12:10 PM PDT Hey guys, I recently got an AC installed in my house because of insanely hot bedroom temps in the summer (not allowed to have street facing windows units as per HOA rules). I don't like using home automation schedules because my real life schedule is so all over the place. Sometimes I leave the house at 8 am, sometimes I leave at 1. I see that there is a way to set sleep schedules and stuff with the Ecobee, but is there a way to just press a button to set the ecobee to only use the external temp sensors (my bedroom) instead of doing it on a schedule? Like, I'm looking for an "i'm going to sleep now, please only use the external sensors for AC" button. Sorry if that's a dumb question! [link] [comments]
Need light almond toggle smart switches Posted: 29 Apr 2021 10:33 AM PDT I've been looking but can't seem to find toggle (not paddle) smart switches in light almond color. I will also need some of them for 3 and 4 way operation. My entire house and trim are almond color and all switches are toggle so really don't want to use white paddles that will stand out. Anyone know where I could find these? [link] [comments]
Aeotec Water Sensor 6 - Probe extension Posted: 29 Apr 2021 01:33 AM PDT Hi, I currently have an Aeotec Water Sensor 6 with dock, and I am looking to extend the out-of-the-box probe cables from their currently length of 1M to something like 3M. I checked the tech specs on their website and this seems to be possible (link). My question is what type of wire/cable would I need to look for to replace the current probe cable be please? Kind regards, Daniel [link] [comments]

Reliability of Google Home Routines Posted: 29 Apr 2021 05:58 AM PDT I'm using a built-in routine called Workday in my environment. I have it set for every day, 5:00AM to 5:00PM. Some things work with 100% reliability--a light module turns on a lamp at 5:00AM. However, the task to turn off that lamp usually works, and then doesn't. For example it seems to have skipped every other day. recently. This isn't critical, however, but it got me thinking abou the consistency and reliability of Google Home and the routines I'm using. Is this a too-frequent occurrence? Is it just me, and maybe something in my environment (electrical, type of bulb, wireless channel (I use 2GHz)) is the cause? Or do I expect too much from Google routines? [link] [comments]
I have some questions about LED strips. Some help would really be appreciated! Posted: 29 Apr 2021 09:17 AM PDT I have been looking at led strips for a display cabinet I have but I'm having a hard time discerning what led strip to get that will match what I want. I want to get an led strip where I can control the individual bulbs and have them change color/patterns. For instance, the display cabinet has 4 sections and I want 1 led strip to run through all the sections but to have different colors for each of the cabinet sections. Ideally, I would like for the "sections" to also have effects separate from the other sections. I would also like to have this turned on/off by google home. Is there an all-in-one solution I can get from the store.or Amazon? If not, is this something I will need to get a controller and program? If so, is this easily achievable? Any help would really be appreciated! Thank you so much! [link] [comments]
How to utilize various RTL-SDR projects in one Pi? Posted: 29 Apr 2021 07:53 AM PDT There's a few really cool projects that use those USB software defined radios dongles on a Raspberry Pi to capture sensor data. Things like weather stations, utility meters, off the shelf wireless sensors. I want to use the RTL-433 project (weather sensors, 433MHz) as well as the RTLAMR project for meter readings (915MHz). Is there any way to utilize both projects on the same SDR? How about on the same Rasbperry Pi, but with two USB RTL-SDR's? [link] [comments] |
