Humidity Sensor inside vs outside fan control Posted: 30 Apr 2021 11:52 PM PDT My dad and I have an old building, and there's no heat in it so it's often very high humidity. Usually sits around 60 to 70% I love to make some kind of automation that takes the outdoor and indoor humidity, and when the outdoor is low enough it starts to circulate air inside. Sometimes here the humidity outside and 70%, but sometimes it's 40% maybe this device could only read the outside, and bring in fresh air when humidity is less than 50%? I'm not sure if this is an Arduino kind of thing, or a raspberry pie kind of thing, or if there is some kind of commercial phone app etc. There is Internet in the building, and it would be fun to be get some of this data remotely when I'm away from building. Can anyone give me suggestions of things to research Or look into? [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Apr 2021 10:05 PM PDT I'm going to use the yeelight RGB smart Wifi bulbs that are dimmable and can be controlled from the app or with voice but I also want to have switches with dimming. Do I need switch that dims it by controlling the power to it or it should dimm it over wifi? Are there switches that can control more than 1 lights circle? So ideally I would like to control those 8 separate circles from switches for on/off and also dimming. Looking to use no more than 4 switches though, what are my options? [link] [comments]
Starting a New Setup, What Mistakes Should I Avoid? Posted: 30 Apr 2021 02:33 PM PDT I am moving into a brand new house out of an apartment and finally able to work on a smart home setup. I am starting nearly from scratch (have a handful of C by GE bulbs I got in a bundle years ago) and planning things out currently. As I am looking through my options and learning things, I realized that there were some easy pitfalls I nearly fell into (ie single pole vs 3 way smart switches). What are some mistakes that you made when making a smart home that you wish you did differently, or common issues that you see newcomers run into? [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Apr 2021 02:32 PM PDT I currently have home assistant setup on my Raspberry Pi as well as a Philips Hue Bridge for my hue lights. I want to start adding some smart plugs to my home to automate some things. There doesn't seem to be any zigbee options here in NZ for smart plugs, so should I just go with Wifi? Monitor personal slot in neighborhood community mailbox? Posted: 30 Apr 2021 04:39 PM PDT Has anyone done this? My new home will not have a stand alone mailbox, but rather a slot with a key in a larger community Is there a device that would be small enough, discrete enough, with enough range, and have enough battery life to make this worth my while? My home is close to the community mailbox, maybe 25 yds away, so I may be able to get a signal of some kind back? Initial thoughts are either the smallest motion detector I can find or a door sensor, but any help would be very much appreciated! [link] [comments]
House came with camera/sensors but no main hub... is there an app for this? Posted: 30 Apr 2021 03:34 PM PDT So I just moved and the house came with two door sensors, one motion sensor, and a camera... but they took the main hub. They were originally serviced through a major communications business in the Midwest(which has since stopped their home security service). I guess my question is, can I intercept their signal and connect them to an old phone or something? Home security, for a VERY GOOD reason, is a little expensive, and I figure if I'm able to reuse these it would help cut down costs. Any suggestions would be appreciated, maybe even suggesting some inexpensive basic other providers would be cool... but definitely if I'm able to reuse these that would be my ultimate goal [link] [comments]

Does anyone besides GE make integrated motion sensor light switches? Posted: 30 Apr 2021 06:47 PM PDT California building code requires vacancy switches in Garage/Laundry/Utility/Garage. Plus, when done right they are EXTREMELY useful in home automation. However, the only ones that I can find are the GE ones. The hand feel is terrible and not wife approved and the driver support isn't great. I would prefer something that is a more traditional rocker and is either zwave/zigbee. What are my options? Posted: 30 Apr 2021 09:45 AM PDT So the other day I saw a commercial for an Alexa enabled kitchen faucet (Moen I think)that you can voice command it to turn on etc. [link] [comments]
z-wave led color bulb recommendation please. Posted: 30 Apr 2021 09:28 AM PDT I'm already z-wave plumbed with repeaters. Looking for a decent color a19 bulb, and maybe light strip. GO! [link] [comments]
Nuki Opener, but with two-way voice communication for my apartment Posted: 30 Apr 2021 12:50 PM PDT Hey everyone, I'm looking for something like the Nuki Opener that includes voice communication, for my existing intercom. I'd like to be able to pickup and hear the other party from my phone, or a speaker in my room, while also being able to remotely unlock the door. Any suggestions? Bonus if it can be entirely self-hosted with home assistant. [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Apr 2021 03:22 PM PDT Hi. I've had a problem with SmartThings and it's removed the connection to my conexis. Does anyone know how to reset the module so I add it again? The manual says this ...
Nowhere does it mention how to put it in device exclusion mode. Any help is appreciated. Thanks [link] [comments]
Looking into Air Conditioner controllers Cielo Breeze a good choice? Posted: 30 Apr 2021 06:12 AM PDT I've looked into the Breeze Eco (don't need the buttons) and the Sensibo. Sensibo's business practices turned me horribly off regardless of their open API. Just wanted to know if the Ciello's are decent enough or if these is another brand I should be looking at? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
Looking for a quality, air quality monitor Posted: 30 Apr 2021 04:31 AM PDT Hi, Can anyone recommend some good quality monitors? I've been looking at some commercially available ones (IQ Air, Air Things Wave), and to be honest, there often seems to be things lacking, either in features, build quality, etc. Sure, if you can think of any that are good, than I'm open to more commercial suggestions. As for other options, I had looked around and had heard of Uradmonitor and Graywolfsensing. Air Things also has a business model that looks interesting. Perhaps anyone knows the quality, relative costs, and whether these other options are worth the money? Are there any good ones I'm missing? Thanks [link] [comments]
Smart light switch or relay module? Posted: 30 Apr 2021 11:17 AM PDT Hey everyone, So I'm setting up a house with smart lights in some areas and want to have them be dimmable too. I started looking at Aqara products, but they don't have a way to dim the light so I've had to discard them. Also looked at fibaro, which was not the switch style I was looking and also crazy expensive. Took a look at livolo too, but I'm not a fan of the capacitive buttons. I live in the EU so my selection of switches is quite limited when compared to the US. I have found some dimmable ZigBee switches (earda stepless switch) but I am tempted to get some relays as that means they I won't have to change the switches and that they will still match the rest of the house, it's an oldish, rustic house so we want to keep that style as much as possible. However, knowing me, I know at some point or another I'm going to want to change something in the network, which will require resetting the switches/relays, and the idea of not having to pry open the switch to reset it is quite attractive. Ideally, a relay which can be reset just by using the switch would be best but I have not been able to find one. What do you think? Relay which is more visually cohesive or a switch which is a better experience? Also, if you have a recommendation for a reliable, good quality 240v dimmable switch I'd love to hear some suggestions. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Apr 2021 05:39 AM PDT My daughters sump pump is located in far corner of crawl space. It is plugged into a gfci outlet that occasionally trips. Looking to replace that outlet with a wi fi outlet that can be reset via wi fi. Any help would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
