    Question on Shelly 2.5

    Posted: 09 May 2020 05:13 PM PDT

I have a Shelly 2.5 that I want to use as a garage door opener. (Using the 2.5 instead of Shelly 1 so that I can retain the app access to tie into my Alexa devices and using HomeBridge for homekit). How would I go about on wiring it and is there a way to utilize that second relay as a door status?

    Thanks

Offline voice recognition: MARTIX Voice/Creator needed, with Raspberry Pi 4b

    Posted: 09 May 2020 05:41 AM PDT

Im currently using a 2Gb RPi4b for voice recognition however Id like to take it offline (and away from Google & Amazon). Im looking at keeping the RPi4b but adding Rhassby & Node Red, however people have told me I should get hold of a Matrix board.

Ive done some research & I cant see a need for it beside the mic array & the fpga, but the fpga programming for voice recognition is non-existant to immature at the moment meaning I may as well just get the seeed array?

Is anyone currently using a Matrix Voice or Creator & find it improves the accuracy & speed or the recognition?

Possibilty to control Soma Smartshades with Hue Dimmer Switch?

    Posted: 09 May 2020 12:47 PM PDT

Does anyone now a way to control your shades with a dimmer switch? So not as in: 1 press is 10%, 2 press is 50% or whatever, but really control the position of the shades the way you would dim and brighten the lights normally with the Hue Dimmer.

    - Using Homekit as my platform and have Raspberry Pi with Homebridge -

    Power Cycle Hydroponics

    Posted: 09 May 2020 02:20 PM PDT

I have a quick question. I can't seem to find any help via the google. So I have a teckin sp20 and I'm looking to have it control my nutrient pump for my hydroponics. This is just an interim solution till my package arrives, whenever Amazon decides it's important enough.

So the power cycle I'm looking for is 30 minutes running and 15 minutes off. Cycle all day every day. I know these things aren't the best long term solution as the relays only have a good 100K cycles on them, but I need something sooner than later. Any idea how to simply do this? I'm at a loss here.

    Thanks

Best smart light switch for app/ecosystem?

    Posted: 09 May 2020 12:18 PM PDT

Going to dip my toe into switching to smart lightswitches, mainly just so I can put my outdoor lights on a schedule. I don't care about gimmicky features (microphone, motion detection, speaker), my main purpose of this question is long term function for future buyers in 10-20 years. I'm looking for:

    1. Must function as good if not better than a dumb lightswitch. IMO, the things that look like capactive touch devices or multi-buttons are worse than a dumb switch because they're harder to turn on manually.
    2. (Purpose of this post) - could someone help me figure out what the most robust ecosystem for the software is? I'm trying to avoid the situation where the app sucks or the company goes bellyup in 5 years and then I lose my smart features.

When I look at the apps for a smart light switches, a lot of the big brands have like a 1.8-star app (concerning). In addition, I had a sweet SD card that could transfer files over adhoc WiFi (Eye-Fi), over the course of a couple years, the company got bought out, then went bankrupt, and the card is now nonfunctional from the Wifi standpoint. Not that big a deal for an SD card, but if I grow my smart ecosystem to 20 lightswitches and then someone buys the house in 10 years with smart lights that are no longer smart, that's kind of annoying. I understand no one can predict this, but I'm looking for the Apple or the Google of the smart light switch world.

Sonoff 4ch pro r2 does not boot after 6 months of inactivity.

    Posted: 09 May 2020 10:41 AM PDT

    Hey guys,

I have a sonoff 4ch pro r2 installed to control my garden lights. I was away and after ~5-6 months of inactivity (Im not quite sure if it was connected to power all that time) it won't boot. When I connect it to power the wifi blue led lights up for about a minute and then goes off. It won't respond to any button press, or long press to reset. It also does not show up in the app.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot? Thanks in advance

Need affordable LED strips for parties

    Posted: 09 May 2020 09:13 AM PDT

My house is looking for some nice sound reactive LED strips to cover a few rooms of our main floor. We don't really care about technical things as long as the colors look good and the sync to music feature is good. We're in college and the space we are trying to fill is probably close to 100 feet so we need strips that are also very affordable. Any recommendations?

Another Wink shafted me post, looking for guidance

    Posted: 09 May 2020 07:47 AM PDT

Hey all, so I've paid for the first month whilst a plan how to migrate away from Wink. Here's my challenge though. I've installed Home Assistant on a Pi but it has discovered zero of my ecosmart WiFi bulbs or any of my installed power receptacles. I can connect to my bulbs and receptacles with my Google Home, but this is through Wink integration.

My dilemma is do I just dump my bulbs and go with Google compatible ones (expensive as I will need to replace over 25 bulbs, replace receptacles for Google compatible (again expensive as I'll need to change 6).

Do I try Hubitat Elevation and hope everything works? I'm struggling to find if my current bulbs & receptacles are compatible.

Finally I have 2 Wink Relays that we really like that we'd like to keep if possible.

Desperate to hear thoughts and ideas that are inexpensive. I also don't mind to tinkering so build from scratch projects are not out of the question.

    TIA

Thermal sensor for BBQ left on

    Posted: 09 May 2020 05:39 AM PDT

So second time in a row in two days the wife and I left the barbecue on low overnight, I know, irresponsible!

But I'm hoping to find is some sort of thermal sensor I can stick on the lid to indicate just that it's hot and have an ifttt timer to alarm if it's been on for more than a set duration.

I have several hubs including the abode and good Wi-Fi, so any reliable battery powered sensor is good.

The lid gets to around 450f on the surface so the actual sensor will have to be on the lid then it's components would have to be remote by a few inches at least.

Backup battery system for Ring cameras?

    Posted: 09 May 2020 04:05 AM PDT

Is there a way to have an individual short term backup power source for Ring cameras if the power goes out? Similar to a backup battery used for computers so people don't lose files, etc.
