My Deebot 600 vacuum won't turn on - help?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 08:57 PM PDT

I've been trying to turn on my deebot 600 vacuum. It was working fine for the past few months I've had it. I have tried all the techniques in the user manual.

The charging dock works fine and has a green light. I place my deebot vacuum on the charging dock. It blinks ONCE and beeps ONCE (as shown in video). Then nothing happens. I tried to switch the on/off button on the side and nothing happens.

    Anyone have any suggestions??

    Need help finding motorized blinds

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 07:42 PM PDT

I just recently bought a place that I will be moving in to next month (yay!). In preparation I am creating a board with an ESP8266EX that will be able to transmit RF and IR. One of these modules will be in every room and I will be using it to control all of my fans, TVs, and LEDs. I want to include motorized blinds to this list. I have found a bunch of cheap (~$30) motorized blinds on sites such as Alibaba, but shipping costs like $150. (I am in the US). I see that most of those blinds are controlled with a remote using either RF (433MHz) or IR which my module can already do. Are there any stores in the US that sell shades for this cheap that I can get somewhere?

How to perform actions based on Energy Usage as measured by TP-Link Kasa Plug

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 01:12 PM PDT

Hi all! I have a TP-Link Kasa smart plug with energy monitor capabilities that I would like to plug my 65" Vizio TV into. I am hoping to check when the tv is on by monitoring powerdraw and use that info in the SmartThings app to trigger certain actions. Any way to do this using this Kasa plug?

    Bathroom Routine

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 03:17 PM PDT

Hey all! I'm currently remodeling my bathroom and thinking of putting in some smart switches to control the exhaust fan and the lights. I'm running a Nexia thermostat bridge to control my smart stuff now but pretty much always use the Alexa app for device control and routines. I'm trying to figure out a way to do the following scenario (but of course having trouble): between 10pm and 6am, if the light switch is pushed on the lights will only turn on at 30% brightness. Any other time the light switch is turned on, the lights go to 100%. Adding to this, would like to have where the fan would turn on if the lights are on for more than 2 minutes. Thank you in advance!

    Theater Seat LED Light Automation

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 12:53 PM PDT

    Hey all,

I've done quite a bit with SmartThings in my house, including Plex integration with my theater room lighting to adjust light levels based on playback, pause, etc. It all works perfectly. I'm comfortable with wiring electrical, Zwave/etc, and case/switch type (if, then, else) type programming.

My theater seats (Octane Turbo XL leather/power recline) have built in blue led lighting around the cup holder and base. It can be controlled from a push button on each seat. It's kind of a painful scenario because it's way too bright to leave on during a movie, but it looks cool and helps folks navigate the aisles. It's a little hokey to then have to tell guests 'Everybody turn your seat lights off.' I have two rows of 4 seats each.

I'd really like to be able to interface and control this lighting via automation. I'm sure it's possible, but before I go pulling the panels apart and trying to reinvent the wheel, I'm sure somebody has already delved into this.

Anybody have any ideas or resources of how this could be done? The easiest scenario (a switchable outlet) will kill control of the power recline functions too..so it's going to have to be something inline to the LED.

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32858248191.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.49192714v4VN8O&algo_pvid=249a3309-df0f-4635-85f1-bcae63a17e82&algo_expid=249a3309-df0f-4635-85f1-bcae63a17e82-0&btsid=ec584918-706c-4b93-b0cc-70fc5e78cf34&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0%2Csearchweb201602_9%2Csearchweb201603_52

Part of me thinks that something like this would be a good option..perhaps buying one per row and tying 4 seats together. I would want them all to turn on or off at the same time. It wouldn't be a point of pride to have them individually addressable..i just want to be able to say all on or all off. However, I haven't even seen what the controls look like on the inside, which is why i ask yall.

I'm sure there are options, but wonder if anyone has crossed this bridge?

    Thanks in advance!

    Alarm.com for Home Automation?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 06:47 PM PDT

    Hi All,

I purchased a home that came with an alarm.com ecosystem (skybell video doorbell, honeywell thermostat, wifi enabled garage door, deadbolt, light switch all connected with a qolsys IQ 2 panel using alarm.com. I want a security system but want to DIY and use an online monitoring company for service. That said, is the home automation limited by alarm.com? Should I not invest more into the ADC system and try going a different direction? Really looking for any experiences or feedback

    Thanks

    Ecobee Or Google nest?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 06:30 PM PDT

I have 2 Alexas, so I am if I do an Ecobee it would be an eco lite.

My house is a narrow Philadelphia row home with 3 stories and a finished basement. Can't decide which one I should get!

I was thinking of ecobee since it had room sensors that I could place on each floor, but now I saw that Google Nest also has sensors.

    Please help!

No room for Shelly1 in US gang boxes

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 10:54 AM PDT

I installed two Shelly1's in my house. Functionally, they do the job. Physically, there really is no room for these devices.

I was thinking of cutting a hole in the top of my gang boxes and stuffing them up above. The only drawback is impacting the insulation, but I am in a temperate climate. Structurally, the boxes look like they can withstand notch.

Has anyone done this, and how did you do it? what type of blade/drill/saw?

Will Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) devices impact on home automation?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 12:07 PM PDT

I remember hearing about this last year but it was earlier in the standards process. I know lots of consumer devices are tending to steer toward wireless, but I'm wondering if the commercial & prosumer products will have any trickle-down to regular devices

    Some high-level details:

    • IEEE 802.3cg standard
    • 10 Mbps
    • 13 watts POE
    • 1000 meter cable length
    • Single twisted pair cable

    Kasa Smartplug and Vornado fan

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 05:35 PM PDT

Does anyone have a workaround for a kasa smart plug and vornado 660? The plug can be controlled to turn off the fan .... but during the turn on phase, I have to manually select a fan speed or press the power button on the device for it to actually work.

This is the fan in question. https://www.vornado.com/shop/circulators-fans/660-large-air-circulator

    High amperage smart plug?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 04:24 PM PDT

Just found this sub and hoping someone here can help me. I need a few high amperage smart plugs so that I can control my air conditioners and a portable heater remotely. I had the heater plugged into a Gosund smart plug (rated at 10A), and it worked a few times before it blew. I have a bunch of these plugs around the house controlling lamps, TV's, and a Furbo camera through my Amazon Echo devices. Once I have a compatible plug, the plan is to use my smart hydro/thermometer and IFTTT to turn on the living room air conditioner when it gets warm. Thanks in advance for helping me not roast my dogs! 🙂

Help in understanding MQTT , Zigbee and zwave in HomeAutomation

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 03:25 PM PDT

I have gone through videos about what is Zigbee , zwave and wifi . Also what is MQTT and what is Tasmota...

Even after all that, I am still in a confusion ( may be I need to revisit all ).

Simple example - I have brought these switches and I understood for local control with mqtt , I need to flash with Tasmota. For flashing I need a separate hardware, not sure on the name yet though ( i see it can be done OAT , but seems it has vuln )

now I am not clear on things , should I need to buy this new tasmota hardware for flashing? And yes I need to . If so what are the zigbee and zwave devices ? if I have them, then I need to buy a device which acts as a receiver ?

I am so confused , in the name of security(having local control) am i spending too much money?

    Non-cloud dimmer switches?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 03:14 PM PDT

I'm a little upset what happened with Wink and I don't want to be in that situation again where a provider flips the script and says, "You gotta pay or your stuff doesn't work anymore."

What's a good dimmer switch that is compatible with Home Assistant? I have that currently running.

    shelly for pool pump

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 06:55 AM PDT

I'd like to install a shelly 2.5 on a pool pump. Mostly so I can monitor the power usage and maybe so I can turn it on/off while on vacation. I'm not sure if I would have it replace the analog timer on it as I don't trust shelly enough yet. Anyone tried it?

    My concerns are:

    1. I believe shelly is 10 amp max and I believe my pool pump is 15 amps. It says "SF 15". Don't know what SF means.
    2. I would have to install it on the breaker box outside where the switch is. Would shelly do well in that kind of environment?
    3. It's a metal pool switch, haven't looked at the insides to tell if the wiring is normal.

I'm assuming the pump has one wire for 15+ amps, maybe it has two wires with distributed amps?

junction box recommendation, cable closet management

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 07:22 AM PDT

I currently have a 1'x2' low voltage relay switch metal box. It's for controlling outdoor lighting. Lights are 120v, the switches are 12 volts. It's mounted on a wooden board near the breaker box. It has about 8 romex lines going into it. I was thinking about replacing it with a couple of 4"x4" metal junction boxes. I am replacing the low voltage switches with shelly 2.5 controllers. I need 2-3 shelly controllers.

Four, of the switches are for spot lights that work on movement sensors so I am thinking of just connecting those together as "always on" and thus no need for a shelly since they turn on by themselves. But I might put 1 shell 1 pm for power monitoring the spot lights. This would be one junction box.

The other junction box would be 2 shellys for 4 other outdoor lights.

First, do the junction boxes have to be metal? I don't know the code. I think they might since it's old romex style cables.

Second, should I just keep the 1'x2' original switch box (after gutting the internals). Seems like over kill, but it does save me a trip to electrical supply house. I guess this is just aesthetics.

Finally, is there a better solution than just a standard electrical junction box. Some sort of smart box? The other thing I have in this closet are : Ethernet drops, coax drops, cable modem, router and managed switch. All on the board on the wall. It's tempting to look for a big box to neatly put all of this in. But I am not sure I would mix the 120v lines with this stuff anyhow.
