ZWave switch similar to Lutron Pico Posted: 23 Jul 2020 08:33 PM PDT Does anyone know of a remote battery operated switch similar to the Lutron Caseta Pico remote? Ideally ZWave but Zigbee could probably work too. TIA [link] [comments]

Anyone have motion sensors throughout their house? How is it set up? Posted: 23 Jul 2020 06:54 PM PDT Anyone have motion sensors that run their lights throughout their house? What motion sensors do you use? How well does it work? TL;DR: Do I install a ton of hardwired sensors now, or slowly install wireless ones as needed? Here's my situation... I'm doing new construction so I have access to everything before the insulation and drywall goes in. My mantra when planning out this entire project has been "hardwire everything." I take it as an axiom wires are better than wireless. My original plan was to do a bunch of hardwired in-ceiling motion sensors that are fairly small, recessed into the ceiling, and are hardwired so they are super quick, reliable, and don't need batteries. I was going to wire all of these, including some contact door sensors, back to several konnected boards which would then feed into Home Assistant. I tested one of these sensors running on 9V instead of 12V (not sure if it matters) and there was a sensitivity radius of about 7 ft. So then I started to map them out... So looking at my plans, things start to look a little crazy, especially when I can't even use any of these until I figure out what smart switches I'm using and I install those. I will hub everything together with Home Assistant. Also, I would need three of those konnected boards, and they are $200 a pop. A low-voltage guy I talked to suggested I use a few ZWave sensors in the corners instead. This has the advantage of being able to move and adjust them as needed, but the disadvantage of being wireless and battery powered. I'm worried about battery life, response time, and connectivity, One thought is to use ZWave motion detectors for the big open areas, and then use in-ceiling PIR sensors that are hardwired for bathrooms, hallways, the mudroom, etc. In terms of cost, the 22/4 wire and 37 PIR sensors runs about $600 + the three konnected 12 zone boards is another $600. So it adds up fast. But then the house is completely covered and hardwired. The ZWave sensors are about $45 each (haven't picked one, this seems an average price). The benefit of this is that I could buy them as needed and move them around and adjust. Could also get light switches with built in motion sensors. So I wouldn't buy anything now, which is the upside as products can improve, but the downside is I'm stuck with batteries and wireless. So, is it better to hardwire everything or gradually grow out the system, albeit with wireless and batteries? Thoughts? [link] [comments]

Automated blinds for a top floor to block out heat. So many selections what to get. Posted: 23 Jul 2020 07:02 AM PDT I have a client that wants to solve his heat issue as he lives on the top floor and during hot days its very hot due to the fact that the sun is beaming through his large windows and also on the roof. From my research it seems the doublecellular type blinds are the way to go to block out heat and provide insulation. He has a window that is 107" and another that is 73.5". I was thinking of splitting the 107" window into 2 separate blinds. Which motorized blind is good where you don't need to change the battery for awhile as having a cable to plug in is not going to fly for him. So far I found blindsgalore.com has some decent prices, but I just read their yelp reviews and it seems to be bad. What other reputable sellers are out there? Is the Ikea ones any good? Integrating Nest thermostat sensors with smart plugs Posted: 23 Jul 2020 06:34 PM PDT I have a Nest thermostat, and 6 Nest sensors. Three of the sensors are in the three bedrooms. The bedrooms have window AC units, each plugged into Gosund smart plugs, which I can control with the Smart Life app, Google Assistant, and Alexa. What I want to do is trigger the smart plugs to turn on and off based on the temperature from each bedroom sensor. I haven't really dived into ITTT to see if it's capable of doing so, or if there's some other way to make this happen. Has anyone made something like this work? [link] [comments]
Can't Connect LG TV's to Home Assistant Posted: 23 Jul 2020 07:11 AM PDT Hey guys, HA noob here and just starting my journey with home automation. I've been following this doc: https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/webostv/ but I can't seem to be able to get HA to discover the TV's (meaning once you add the code to configuration.yaml there should be a notification to start the TV pairing. I haven't been able to make this notification appear which is why I'm assuming HA is not discovering the device). I don't know if this is relevant but one of the TV's is on an older than 3.0 webos. However one is a fairly recent one. Both have LG Connected apps enabled. None are wired and are connected to the same WIFI as HA. I can, however ping the devices via Terminal (I'm using a Mac btw). I'm at a loss in what to do tbh as I'm not technical. Have been trying a bunch of combinations found in the forums (code for configuration.yaml) but nothing works. At this point I suspect something is wrong with my installation of HA and that might be affecting discovery of the TV's. Any help is appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Mounted Tablet Control/Home Dashboard app? Posted: 23 Jul 2020 08:35 AM PDT I'm assuming this has been asked before, but I want to mount an unused fire tablet under my monitors with Spotify controls/some basic smart home controls. Ideally, I'd have half of the screen as Spotify album art and play controls and the other app some basic smart stuff, hue lights, temp, weather, etc. What is everyone using for "Home dashboard" apps? Lutron Caseta L-BDG2 Smart Bridge vs Logitech Harmony Elite Hub? Posted: 23 Jul 2020 06:09 PM PDT I own a Lutron Caseta L-BDG2 Smart Bridge, working perfectly with Lutron Dimmers. Now I am trying to set it up with a Logitech Harmony Elite Hub, and the Harmony hub cannot find the Smart Bridge. I scan my WiFi from the Harmony app, and the Lutron Smart Bridge is not found. I read about multicast issues, but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do. I have tried: - Factory resetting everything - Resetting router - Turning IGMP configuration on and off from the router - Changing IGMP configuration from Proxy to Snooping on the router. What else can I try? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Trouble pairing Eachen Wifi Relay Posted: 23 Jul 2020 05:35 PM PDT I bought one of these wifi relays off Amazon that you pair with the eWeLink app, but I can't get it to pair for the life of me. I have Ubiquiti APs. I've turned off the 5ghz network entirely, I've created a totally separate 2.4ghz-only SSID and just can't get the thing to pair in quick pair or in compatible mode. I've tried with an android and iPhone. In quick pair mode it just spins at detecting device until it times out. In compatible mode, it gets to sending network info before it times out. The strange thing is, when doing compatible mode, I do see it connected to the wifi network, but since pairing fails, the device doesn't show up in the app. Any ideas why this thing is failing to pair?? Posted: 23 Jul 2020 04:54 PM PDT Does anyone know a good LED strip light that can reach 20 feet for my bed and 11 feet for my desk? Also looking for one that works with Google Assistant. [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Jul 2020 12:37 PM PDT I'm wondering if there is a temperature sensor/thermometer that can be plugged into an outside wall plug and report back to Home Assistant running on a Pi. Looking around online I wasn't obviously able to find anything so Im not sure if Im using the wrong name (im new to this)? [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Jul 2020 03:27 PM PDT I live in a Rural area, and my current ISP is having severe infrastructure issues, so the internet is down a huge % of the time. I'm looking at alternatives. A satellite would solve the uptime issues. But looking at my router, every Chromecast / Google home device uses 10-20kbps. When doing NOTHING. Across 5 speakers, and 2 chromecasts. Thats 1mb/min ~1.5GB a day. Which is close to 45 GB a month. When not actively used. Not to mention camera data, and streaming netflix. This passive data use is ruinous to data caps. Doing some googling, I have found backdrops are the major culprit. Chromecast devices are constantly downloading pretty pictures, which can be curtailed by modifying backdrop settings via the google home app. Had no idea my devices were using so much data idling. Not sure if I can bring it under control to use in a capped data scenario. Might just have to wait for starlink! [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Jul 2020 03:14 PM PDT Florida, so humidity exists, but these would be under the carport out of direct exposure. Zigbee preferred as I already an existing setup. I'm saying away from the Samsung ones, because there's no way to disable the heat sensor, and that messes with Alexa giving me an average inside temperature in the house. [link] [comments]

Xiaomi Mijia Hygrometer + Homekit Posted: 23 Jul 2020 03:07 AM PDT Hey everyone! I just received my Xiaomi Mijia Hygrometer v2 in the mail and tried to connect it to Homekit - it doesn't work. I also use the Xiaomi Mijia Smart MultiModes Gateway which supports BLE. Is there any way to use the Hygrometer with Homekit? Maybe using Homebridge? Thanks everyone and stay safe! Is the Lutron Caseta fan control switch compatible with Hunter brand ceiling fans? Posted: 23 Jul 2020 02:39 PM PDT I saw an Amazon review from a year ago that was claiming no, and others seem to have no issues. I know that I will need to pull the chain to max power before installing the switch, but I was still concerned about compatibility. I definitely want the Lutron switch, and I haven't yet purchased a ceiling fan. Thank you. [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Jul 2020 11:15 AM PDT Setting up my first HA setup in my house and going for the google's nest micro eco system. Having searched long and hard for an app i can hook up to a tablet on the wall, i have resulted in my only option to be the nest app. I'm here because i was wondering how good the nest app dash board is, and maybe someone could send me a picture of it? Is it good for a dashboard i could put on a wall? N.B i'm putting nest hubs around the house for quick and easy control, just looking for sometunf on the hallway wall. [link] [comments] |
