Fibario Home Center 3 vs Smartthings for next step in automation

    Posted: 19 Jul 2020 12:02 AM PDT

I currently have a large Phillips Hue setup and bunch of Tuya based devices for doing Fans, Heaters etc and a Sensibo Aircon controller

I would like to take the next step and automate an alarm system, electronics locks, and tie them all togther.
Initally, I was planing on getting a Smartthings hub and going down that path but then I saw the Fibario Home Center. It looks pretty slick albeit expensive.

Does anyone have any experience with it? Is it worth the money?
I know it works with Hue, but will it work with all my Tuya stuff?

    Best strip leds?

    Posted: 18 Jul 2020 12:47 AM PDT

I'm trying to find a cost-effective led strip light that can be integrated into google assistant. I currently have some super cheap ir-led strip lights that run off of a smart plug, but don't see the point because it just turns it on to the default color (red). Any suggestion are welcome. Trying to set some good routines up with it. Thanks.

    Shelly 1 battery power

    Posted: 18 Jul 2020 05:51 PM PDT

I can't seem to find out what battery to use for powering a Shelly 1. I have actually used a 9V battery for a period of times but not sure how long I could run it and if that's safe since technically it should be 12V. Tweeting to avoid main voltage as I'm using it to switch a battery powered Christmas Tree topper.

My remote for my LED strip lights is controlling my roommates lights HELP

    Posted: 18 Jul 2020 05:42 PM PDT

My roommate and I bought the exact same LED strip lights for our rooms and I'm just now setting mine up and discovered my remote control is controlling both of our lights simultaneously. Does any one have any idea how to possibly fix this? Google and YouTube were no help so I thought I'd try here. I love the lights and would like to avoid having to return them and purchase a new brand if at all possible :/

Indoor air quality monitor (for smoke)

    Posted: 18 Jul 2020 07:49 AM PDT

Any recommendations on a unit? I use Home Assistant with a Zigbee/Zwave dongle.

I'm asthmatic and my boyfriend smokes meat sometimes all day long right next to the house. He refuses to move the thing and of course the smell lingers for days. I'd like an air quality monitor that can measure smoke particles in the room closest to the smoker and I'll send him an alert every time the air quality is poor inside. That should prompt him to move it into the yard.

Can barely breathe, thanks for the help!

How do I get started with this LED project for an entire room?

    Posted: 18 Jul 2020 02:20 PM PDT

Hi, I've been searching a bit online on how to do this, but I'm getting quite a bit of conflicting information and I'm starting to feel pretty lost. I want to set-up nice lights for an apartment living room, and I've done the math, I need at minimum 32ft of lights to cover the perimeter of 3 walls at ceiling level. I've been looking into LED light strips, and decided I wanted to go all out and invest in some RGB+CCT light strips with a high LED density. But at this point, I started getting confused.
There are a lot of posts about different light strips of varying age, and I don't know what to look for. Then comes the question of controlling these- I want to be able to have it change colors (clearly), perhaps react to music as well, but I'm not sure what I would need to do to get this functionality, as I'm a complete newb to home automation. Any advice on this topic would be much appreciated, thanks!

    UK smart light switch questions

    Posted: 18 Jul 2020 12:31 PM PDT

Due to an odd lighting setup I'm unable to use hue bulbs, so I'm considering getting some smart light switches instead, my current setup has no neutral wire so I'm looking into switches that work without this, I'm currently leaning towards these. I have a couple of questions, apologies if some of these are stupid...

    1. My switches are currently metallic and have an earth wire, the switches I mentioned above have no room for a earth wire, is this a problem?
    2. If it's ok to use the plastic switch without the earth wire, what should I do with the wire when installing? Just tape it off and let it hang in the back of the fitting?
    3. Might seem like a silly question, but if I replace just one of the switches in my home with the plastic one, and the others are metallic with the earth wire would this be an issue?

Does anyone here have experience with smart panels like Span.io or Lumin?

    Posted: 18 Jul 2020 12:30 PM PDT

I am going to be adding solar + storage to my house. In thinking about and researching which loads need to be backed up in the dedicated load panel, I came across these 2 products. The Span replaces the whole house electrical panel and allows for you to choose which loads to be powered at any time. The Lumin is similar but seems to be a product that is added to allow a normal electrical panel to become smart.

I am curious if this community has any experience with either of these or any similar products.

No Auto-Unlock option in August on iOS

    Posted: 18 Jul 2020 08:35 AM PDT

Have a Yale Assure SL + August Connect. On my android, it was simple to set up auto-unlock, but on my GFs iPhone, the options simply doesn't exist in her settings. Everything else looks the same, including auto lock, but no auto unlock.

Anyone have anything I can try to get that function working for her?

    Thanks!

Looking for specific functionality with a smart lock that doesn't seem to exist

    Posted: 18 Jul 2020 12:09 PM PDT

Greetings home automation nerds! I'm in the market to buy a smart lock, but have a pretty specific use case that I haven't been able to figure out whether is possible or not with any sort of hardware/software configuration.

The goal is to have a large group of guests I've granted access that I can turn access on or off for all at once without individually going through and enabling each guest every time. The timeframes that I need the door to be open to everyone is always changing, so most solutions I've seen with the current smart lock apps wouldn't work unless I missed something. I'm open to "hacky" solutions, or doing a bit of hobbyist electronic work/coding if that's a possibility. Thanks in advance!

WiZ Light - Problems with Google Home Android App

    Posted: 18 Jul 2020 02:00 AM PDT

It was confusing to set up in the WiZ app but it suddenly appeared in the Google Home App and worked fine on the Nest and Android Phone.

But now when I use voice or onscreen settings to change the brightness, it always says:
light isnt available you may want to try setting it up again

The voice commands work (but shows that error)

The onscreen commands don't work at all.

Works fine on Android (in Google Home ans the Wiz App)

I'll ask you guys before I stumble and moan through Setup again.
