Permanent RGB House Christmas Lights? Posted: 17 Jul 2020 05:32 PM PDT Hello all, Looking to setup my home with permanent RGB Christmas lights that I can control year round for various holidays. I would love to have something that would be able to tie in with various control systems. I don't want so garbage tape LEDs that will fall off within a year. I have been looking at Oelo. It is a bit expensive and it uses their own app but looks like it would hold up well. Any recommendations? [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Jul 2020 04:40 AM PDT Hi All, Looking for a robot hoover because why waste my life doing that nonsense by hand? Would ideally work with Home Assistant easily out of the box with the potential not to rely on an internet connection, but the last point isn't a deal breaker. [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Jul 2020 09:54 PM PDT Hello Everyone! I recently remodeled my living room and decided it was time to put automated roller shades. I ran wiring to 4 windows and each window has a blackout shade and translucent shade. ( The wiring comes to one area where the power module was going to be placed) I was planning on going with Lutron Serena but I was quoted 10k for 4 windows. Yikes!! Now I'm considering to do this DIY this because 10k is ridiculous. My existing shades are relatively new so I'm looking to retrofit them. I'd like to program them using a raspberry Pi but I need advise as to what components and what style of code I need. I'm not very code savvy but I do know the general logic from my engineering classes. From what I understand I've got to connect this with homebridge in order to integrate this with HomeKit. If possible I'd also like to add a switch on the wall that controls all the blinds. I know that I have low voltage wiring going to windows so I'd prefer not to have any solar or battery operated. From the raspberry pi I will need some sort of module that regulates the power to each of the windows where motors will be mounted. Any help/advise would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! Posted: 17 Jul 2020 03:10 PM PDT Hi, I am trying to install the Aeotec ZW111 Nano Dimmer to control my bathroom lights. I live in the UK and all my lights are usually switched live with no neutral. I bought the dimmer specifically as it supports a two wire setup. Here is a photo of my wiring: https://filebin.net/wclu4oihpfg05xrs/IMG_20200717_203633.jpg?t=qlec6mo0 It's pretty straight forward. The ceiling lights the dimmer is supposed to switch on and off are 6 x 6W LED. However as soon as I switch the dimmer on via Home Assistant the lights just strobe. It's really strange. Here is a short video to demonstrate what happens: https://filebin.net/da17lzn9gsombm87/VID_20200717_203742.mp4?t=113zv5ar The minimum load for the dimmer is 10W and I have 36W. I have no idea why this is happening. Any help or ideas would be very much apprechiated! Cheers,Manuel [link] [comments]
Determine who is in which room Posted: 17 Jul 2020 10:36 PM PDT Is there some way to determine who is in which room in my home? Do I need a sensor of some sort? For instance, if I move from my bedroom to my living room, I'd like to write an automation that turns off my bedroom AC and turns on the living room AC. Google home and a voice activated TV Posted: 17 Jul 2020 04:32 PM PDT Hey guys! I'm am trying to link my google home, chrome cast, and Sonos Beam together to make a voice activated tv and music system. However I am having difficulty with the Google Home understanding what I am asking when I say things like, "Hey google turn the volume down on the TV" it will ask for the device name as well, for one example . Anyone been able to link these devices seamlessly?? From the incredible projects I've seen on this sub this is probably just a small project but I appreciate you all coming to my level 😂 [link] [comments]
Smart plugs restart periodically after power outage. Posted: 17 Jul 2020 08:24 PM PDT I have 2 smart plugs connected to lamps and one of them started to restart periodically (turns off then on immediately). It was very annoying and I tried connecting it to other sockets and removing them software-wise and reconnecting, but it kept happening so I was using just one of them. I just had an outage and the other is behaving this way now. Is there something I can do to fix this? Why is this happening? Thanks. [link] [comments]

What's a good smart lock that matches these criteria? Posted: 17 Jul 2020 04:31 PM PDT Hey everybody, I'm moving into a condo my family owns in about 10 months and would like to have a keyless front door. I could use some pointers as I'm new to this. So first things first: I'm not opposed to carrying a key fob around with me in case my phone dies or gets stolen (if anything I'd probably feel safer carrying one), but I've decided against retrofit deadbolts that can be picked by locksmiths for personal reasons. That alone eliminates quite a few options such as the August + Connect and Kwikset Kevo. As for remote access, that would be nice to have but it's not exactly my top priority. I do have a Google Home though. And when it comes to those locks that can tell if you're inside or outside based on your phone's position in relation to the door plane, I'm not sure about the layout of the place and won't be able to see it for myself until the current lease expires, so this may or may not be a problem. For the time being I'd avoid these types. I don't like keypads either, as they can sometimes hold residue and expose the digits used in your code. And changing it regularly sounds like a hassle. Remembering, telling my roommate etc... I really like the Kevo approach where you touch it to open it. But then again, deadbolt. So what are some options for my needs? [link] [comments]
Replacing 3-way with wireless remote Posted: 17 Jul 2020 04:22 PM PDT Greetings! My detached garage had a pair of 3-way switches that allowed you to turn the power to the entire garage on and off from the house or the garage. I am trying to change it so that the switch in the house only turns on and off the outside light, leaving the remaining power on for battery chargers and locally-controlled lights. I thought this was going to be simple, but when I pulled things apart, I discovered that there is ONLY 12/2+ground run between the buildings, and whoever wired it up last used the ground for neutral, and the white and black wires for travelers. So given the situation I think my best solution is a smart switch in the garage (replacing the existing switch) and a remote for it (replacing the switch in the house). I have several other smart devices (WeMo, Nest) and talk to all of them with Google Home. I've looked around and everything I have found with a remote switch (e.g. Caseta) needs a hub to reach Google Home. Are there other options I haven't found? [link] [comments]

Posted: 17 Jul 2020 01:56 AM PDT We have three Xboxes in our house, all with their own player accounts, and I'm having trouble figuring out how to set up more than one Xbox to access it with our google home... Sensi smart thermostat always dropping wifi Posted: 17 Jul 2020 01:03 PM PDT My sensi smart thermostat is always showing my it's offline. My WiFi is pretty solid and I rarely have issues. All my Google homes are connected to the same network and never have problems. The thermostat is sometimes online and works but most of the time I open the app it's offline. could this be a software issue or something I'm not realizing? Is there anyone with the same issues that found a fix to it? I have tried to restore the thermostat completely and it didn't change anything. It's gotten to the point it's basically a low chance it's going to work over phone or voice and I end up having to manually change it which gives it the same functionality as the original thermostat. Elk Security first time questions Posted: 17 Jul 2020 09:03 AM PDT I tried to search for a dedicated elk sub Reddit but I can't find one. So sorry if this is the wrong place. I'm installing an elk and one gold system in my parents house that's currently under construction. I have a cellular communicator that I am in the process of trying to get all the accounts lined up for since it seems like you have to have multiple accounts. Elk says in order to get authorized for an Elk link account, I need the central stations ip and port info for their surgard receiver. I told the central station this, and they said that the techs will provide me with this info when we set up our appointment. They're asking for mac address and serial and "master code" info. I have a feeling I might have to get this thing online in order to pull some of this information, and according to elk you can't get it online until you get authenticated for elk link which requires having an active central station account. So I seem to be stuck in this loop where I can't activate elk link without central station info, therefore I can't use the C1M1 unit , and I can't get the central station info they need. Am I missing something? Followup: After talking more with them it sounds like the particular Centra Station I'm trying to use manages the Elk Link account stuff, so I suppose I just wire up everything as it should be and when its time to activate the cell communicator I do that over the phone with their tech. Posted: 17 Jul 2020 11:04 AM PDT We just bought a mydlink DCS8000LHV2, and after trying a hundred times, we are unable to connect it the WiFi. We type the password, and when it configured the WiFi, it loads about 1/4 of the way, and then it stops saying we need to check the password or move it closer to the router. We have done both, even putting the phone/camera on top of the router, yet no success. Anyone else experienced this issue and/or how to solve it? We are using the mydlink app. [link] [comments]
Relay Cut-out that also has notification capabilities? Posted: 17 Jul 2020 04:52 AM PDT I'm using a condensate pump to remove water from a dehumidifier running in my basement. The pump has a NC dry contact safety switch to shut down equipment if the condensate pump overflows. Does anyone make a product that: 1) I can plug a 120V appliance into and switch power based on the state of a dry contact 2) Send alerts to my home automation system I know I could rig something up with a door sensor and a smart outlet, but if there's a one stop solution, I'd prefer it. CHEAP retrofit motorized blinds with zigbee or similar Posted: 17 Jul 2020 04:25 AM PDT I am looking for a CHEAP way to control my motorized blinds via smartphone. I found the 'Aqara Relay Two-way Control Module Wireless Zigbee Relay Controller 2 channels' but it is slightly TOO BIG. It does not fit into the existing wall switches (they have an UP and DOWN button and run on 240 Volts) that I have. I would be grateful for alternative suggestions (ideally small & cheap) [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Jul 2020 03:28 AM PDT Hello. Can you please help me? Basically, I'm looking for a simple switch which is capable to work on wifi with MQTT protocol and it is on battery power. Ideally if it is running Tasmota, but this is optional. Do you have any tips? Thank you. [link] [comments] |
