Today I received my Google Home enabled thermostat which I ordered it from my utility company. It was super quick and easy to install and set up. I'm thrilled!

Can I get IFTTT to read the temp off a Nest thermostat?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 04:40 AM PDT

It's hard to find answers within all the complaining about how Nest doesn't work with IFTTT anymore.

Simply put, if my Nest reports a temperature higher than X and the heat is off I want it to trigger my in-window LG SmartThinQ AC units (which I normally control via Google Assistant or the LG app).

My kid keeps manually turning them off when nobody is looking because she just likes buttons that beep and it's getting annoying. LOL

Has anyone else experienced all your smart products disconnecting over a few days, and being unable to reconnect? Various devices/cameras from differing brands...

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 01:21 AM PDT

Over the last week, we've had all of our smart devices stop working.
First, the 4 sonoff products disconnected/stopped working with Google Assistant/native apps (2 inline relays, 2 smart plugs) shortly after my 2 smart cameras disconnected, followed by the two wifi lightbulbs.

No matter what I do none of them will re-pair with the corresponding apps/wont connect to the wifi.

    Any ideas?

The router is a BT Home Hub, running dual band 2.4ghz and 5ghz. I've tried turning off the 5ghz with no joy :(

    Emergency calling!!! Smart Device Translation.

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 12:40 AM PDT

Anyone can help translate this sentence to "Russian, German and French"?

Please press the manual switch three times repeatedly at an interval of every 1s (Off-ON-Off-ON-Off-ON) when the light is on. The "breathing mode" indicates the light enters quick pairing mode.

    Many thanks in advance.

Is there a 433 MHz to MQTT gateway software that lets you add custom device protocols?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 02:55 AM PDT

I have a pretty rare set of temperature sensors that I've reverse engineered the signal protocol for. Is there a gateway software I can install on my Arduino to get this data to Home Assistant? I have a 433 MHz receiver hooked up to the Arduino.

I looked at Open MQTT Gateway, but it doesn't seem to support adding your own protocols. I don't know much about RFLink it any other ones either.

    Combined thermostat + humidity control?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 10:24 PM PDT

I currently have a separate thermostat and humidity control, as shown in the picture below. Is there a wifi/automation-capable thermostat that can do both of these functions in one? Ideally a smart controller that will automatically adjust the humidity setting throughout the year?

Alternative use for a security cam - monitor sleep habits

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 06:16 PM PDT

I have been using my Wyze cam to monitor myself sleeping from 9pm to 5am. The cam is surprising good in the dark. I can see how often I get up during the night, and how restless I am when I sleep. The cam activates when I am sufficiently restless to set off the motion sensor.

Anyways, i thought that someone might appreciate the novelty.

    Upgrading Security Camera System

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 08:41 AM PDT

Hey! Looked around but couldn't find an answer. I have a wired camera setup with 4 cameras plugged into a DVR by Night Owl that I got off Amazon few years back.

The Night Owl app is terrible and the whole thing runs poorly, which results in me not using it much.

Recently saw a friend who got a doorbell camera (Ring I think) and the interface on his app, paired with the speed in which he can jump around and access the data, is amazing. I would like to upgrade to something like that, but I would like to plug in my existing cameras, and maybe add new ones.

Suggestions for a smart bathroom vent?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 07:39 PM PDT

Hi all, I got a Veent smart bathroom fan, and it's been quite the disappointment. So now I'm looking for something better, but I don't see a lot of options.

I'm looking for something that turns on with a rise in humidity, obviously, and isn't too loud. If I can be really choosy, something that ties into google smart home would be wonderful.

    Thanks for any tips/advice/pointers!

    Flood help

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 07:27 PM PDT

My newly finished, 2 months ago, basement had a minor flooding incident tonight. My condensate pan overflowed as the drain pipe had some build up so the pump failed to fill and pump away the excess water.

So carpet and drywall in a closet are now drying. I've also learned that there are condensate treatment tabs to eliminate build up... Great. Id love to have the peace of mind knowing that I have a smart water sensor to tell me if we're getting an overflow condition.

I found something "dumb" from Zoro. What ways are there to do this with zigbee/zwave sensors? HA running on Rpi with husbzb-1.

I have concerns about a wireless sensor trying to transmit form within my condensate pan, you know sheet metal cube and all..

    Thoughts??

Hello everyone. I'm selling a Eufy Robovac 30C since I want a Lidar based robot vacuum for my home. It was purchased on Amazon and I received on April 13, 2020 so it's been used for almost 4 months. I'll include every accessory that was included with the robot vacuum and it's condition is like new. Don't hesitate on PM'ing me or commenting down below if you have any questions.

Adding more lightbulbs slowed down Alexa routines. Would getting a second Zigbee hub help?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 02:41 PM PDT

I purchased a few Sengled lightbulbs with hub a while ago, and my most-used routine is "Alexa, lights out", where it would turn off all of the Sengled lights. I decided to buy and set up more Sengled lightbulbs. However, my "lights out" command now takes longer to complete. I was thinking that getting a second hub and dividing the bulbs between each hub might speed things back up. Would that actually help?

Smart/Fingerprint/Keypad lock for narrow metal yard door?

Smart/Fingerprint/Keypad lock for narrow metal yard door?

    View of the door, 1

    View of the door, open

    Hi ladies & gents,

My home has a small storeroom accessible from outside, and a decade ago we built it like you see in the pictures: with narrow metal bars and plexiglass.

I'm tired of carrying the key to unlock it whenever I move fruit and tools in and out of it.
Can you recommend any smart locks (fingerprint preferred) that would fit the narrow metal bars?

I'm in the EU. I can run 220V to the door if the lock needs to be powered.

Please excuse the watermelon in the photo.

Xiaomi Mi Mop PRO vs Roborock S5 Max?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 08:26 AM PDT

    Hey guys.

I want to buy my first robo vacuum cleaner.

Xiaomi Mi Mop PRO vs Roborock S5 Max - which one would you buy?

The roborock is obviously more advanced, but costs $150 more. Power wise they look almost the same tho (1800pa vs 2000 pa).

What are the main differences and which one should I pick?

Automate Sprinkler Pump with Index Valve

Automate Sprinkler Pump with Index Valve

Hi Everyone, I already have Home Assistant setup and am controlling some things around the house. I'd like to wade into the deeper end of Home Automation and control my sprinkler system from Home Assistant. My system has an indexing valve which takes care of the zones, so every time it turns off it advances to the next zone. So all I need to do is turn on my sprinkler pump on and off over wifi.

It currently has a timer box that handles the whole thing, that I'd like to replace. I attached a wiring diagram from the box to help. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Replacing the bell video terminal inside the apartment

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 03:06 AM PDT

I live in an apartment complex equipped with some old-school video bells, and I am looking for a way to replace the terminal installed inside the apartarment, with the display, comm piece and building door control. Are these parts sold separately from the bell cameras? All the devices I seem to bundle it all, and would rather use the building installation & audio/video feed and connect it to a new terminal, preferentially with Wi-fi connection and at least a "mute" button.

Meross MSG100 Smart Garage Door Opener

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 04:56 PM PDT

Just installed this system today and the door is opening and closing with no issues except the app reports the close action is failed. When I dry ran the sensors, they worked fine. Watching them on close, it sure looks like they are with in an inch. I moved the stationary sensor closer to the point that they were contacting and still getting error. Any ideas? I tweaked the door open time as I saw suggested on one of their help pages. No change.

Wireless Smart Switches for smart lights/plugs?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 04:23 PM PDT

We have Philips Hue smart lights all over the house, but we have a few smart plugs (TP-Link) for lamps and AC's. I just picked up a Hue Smart Dimmer Switch (battery-powered) that works great with the Hue bulbs, but I'd like to try to incorporate the smart plugs in there as well. Any way to do that without having to get 2 different brands of switches?

Is it possible to use Xiaomi / Aqara door sensors with Arduino or ESP8266?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 04:27 AM PDT

    Hi there,

I have a few of the Xiaomi and Aqara door sensors and the Xiaomi hub (V2 I believe).

I would really like to do away with the hub as it only speaks in Chinese and I'm in the UK so always have a bit of a game with trying to set it all up. That's not the only reason as to why I want to do away with the hub though.

I was therefore wondering if anyone knows if it's possible (and if so, how) to read the sensors using an Arduino (with attached Zigbee shield) so that I can have a completely locally working device instead of having to go through the makers servers every time.

Upfront I have absolutely nothing against Chinese servers but would just like to hook them up to an Arduino (or ESP8266 board?) instead so that I can get them to do / control pretty much anything I like when they get activated.

I'd ideally like to have either an Arduino or ESP8266 module (not sure which would be best if indeed this can be done?) which will be connected to my WiFi network, then that board (whether it is Arduino or ESP8266) would have a Zigbee board connected to it and all the door sensors would (when activated) send the signal to the board and I will be able to do whatever I like with the information. Also a way to send maybe an on / off signal to the board so that when I don't want it to act on the signals it doesn't.

I'm exceptionally new to the world of programming and some of the posts I read online currently are just going over my pay grade 😂 so any nice simple information anyone could send my way would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can throw my way on this.

Hope everyone is keeping well and staying safe during these odd times.

    Best wishes,

    Mark
