How many Brilliant Smart Switches do I need to cover a Living room, kitchen and hallway? Posted: 14 Oct 2020 07:55 PM PDT I'm planning on getting the 3 way switch from brilliant but I don't understand how they work and how many I need. I have 6 switches. Some overlap, some are just in one area. The main lights for the living room have I guess a 3 way switch and like I said some in the living room overlap. Any help would be cool [link] [comments]
Camera doorbell Recommendations Posted: 14 Oct 2020 11:56 PM PDT Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows of a doorbell camera that runs autonomous on batteries rather than being plugged into a power source. The live in an apartment so I would need something yang can use batteries. I haven't been able to find one. All the ones I have found require the power source from your house. Any recommendations would be appreciated. [link] [comments]
Is there a Ring alternative that I can selfhost? Posted: 14 Oct 2020 07:21 AM PDT It sounds like the features would be nice to have but I don't want anyone else to have remote access to it. [link] [comments]

Serious Question: Is there a robot vacuum that cleans up cat poop? Posted: 14 Oct 2020 09:32 PM PDT not a litter robot, but if the cat is old or a baby kitten and doesn't make it to the box. I have had a problem cat and I hate poop, but once in a while there's a plopper in the living room and it's time to put on the gas mask and hazmat suit....I'm wondering if anyone has designed an in-house poop robot? Suggestions on smart switches for older home renovation Posted: 14 Oct 2020 05:37 PM PDT Like the title says, I'm going to be renovating a 1960's era house which I'm pretty sure has no neutral wiring at the switches. That said, I might be rewiring the whole home to update the electrical. I'm trying to figure out the best options for either a neutral wire or no neutral wire that runs the smoothest without issues. WiFi switches might be an option but I also plan to run a Smartthings hub. I've been looking at the Inovelli Red Switches but not sure if that's the best bang for the buck. Any suggestions would be helpful! [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Oct 2020 09:13 PM PDT Hey guys. Just got recently into the home automation game, really trying to make things more efficient and easy. What devices/gadgets should I look out for? I usually order stuff from aliexpress and Amazon since I'm from EU. Aliexpress is quite good for this type of stuff. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Having an issue with globe bulbs (Oct 2020) Posted: 14 Oct 2020 08:48 PM PDT I have 5 globe bulbs purchased in 2019 that are working on my house. I recently purchased 6 (Costco 3pks) more for my basement. But I cannot get them to sync with the app. They are in flash fast pairing mode, Im on 2.4ghz but the app (globe suite 1.2.3) won't see the lights. I've tried reverting the app to 1.2.0 with an apk file and it still won't see the new lights. I've tried the ap pairing mode twice to similar effect. There was a firmware update on October 1st I don't know if that might be the reason recent purchase products can't talk to the app. Any help would be great. [link] [comments]

Smart light recommendation (50+ bulbs) Posted: 14 Oct 2020 06:21 PM PDT Hello everyone, I currently have about 25 hue lights (mostly the a19 white) and am moving into a house where I will need about 55-60 total lightbulbs. I am wondering if I should just go ahead and buy hue and hope it works (50 soft limit I think) or if at this time I should go ahead and change to a different system that may work better for my needs. Primarily we like using alexa voice commands to turn on/off all of the lights or groups of lights ie kitchen. Along with using the hue app. I know you can use two hue bridges by using a third party app but will it work for my needs? Will it easily integrate with our alexa devices/apple homekit? Any recommendations are appreciated. [link] [comments]
Vivint panel system pre-installed by previous owner Posted: 14 Oct 2020 05:08 PM PDT Bought a house with an older Vivint panel preinstalled by the previous owner but I have no code to reset it. The batteries were going dead to which I replaced to kill the alarm that goes off everyday to tell me. Though I can't clear the system alarms without a code. So does anyone know of a way to clear or reset the system so I can make my own passcode? [link] [comments]
What smart thermostat should I get for 4 heating/cooling zones + humidifier Posted: 14 Oct 2020 07:14 AM PDT I have 4 manual thermostats now. What happens if I have the heat on in the basement, and the AC on for the main level. Does it create a negative feedback loop? It's really a pain in the ass to walk around the entire house to switch from heat to cool. What's the best way be able to manage them from my phone or computer? Is there a multi-zone system available where the thermostats talk to each other and work together? I'm guessing I only need one unit that can control the humidifier? [link] [comments]
Motion light switch with only hot and neutral. No ground Posted: 14 Oct 2020 04:39 PM PDT House built in 1955. US. Only two wires in the light switch box. I want to put a motion dimmer switch there but instructions for the switch I bought call for 3 wires and it worn't work with out the ground. The box is not metal so I can't ground to the box. This is the switch I have currently but am open to other brands. https://www.lutron.com/en-US/Products/Pages/Sensors/Occupancy-Vacancy/MaestroOccVacSensors/overview.aspx Any sugjestions? Posted: 14 Oct 2020 03:01 PM PDT I have a heat pump (heat & AC) in my great room and have been looking for an alternative to sensibo to make it smart. Sensibo is bananas expensive for what it does. Anyway, stumbled upon this SwitchBot hub mini for like $30 and thought I'd give it a try. Setup was cake and it found my heat pump immediately. Question 1: is there any way for it to use Fahrenheit instead of Celsius? Question 2: do you know why when I tell google to set the temp to 70 degrees why it would set it to 30 degrees Celsius? Does it think I mean Celsius and it is just turning it up as high as it will go? I want this thing to work so badly. Any help would be great. [link] [comments]
Does anyone make a dimmer slider that is Wi-Fi? Posted: 14 Oct 2020 02:22 PM PDT I'm not a fan of the button dimmers, love having a little knob to slide up and down. Does anyone make one of those that is controllable via Wi-Fi? I realize it may be hard because how do you physically move the slider when you adjust it via Wi-Fi? But still someone needs to figure this out if they haven't yet. [link] [comments]
Is anyone using a 360 vacuum cleaner with home assistant? Posted: 14 Oct 2020 02:07 PM PDT I just installed home assistant on my Raspberry Pi 3 and so far everything was pretty self explanatory but adding our 360 s7 vacuum cleaner seems to be more challenging. I read that it can be done, I just wasn't sure where and how to start. Did anyone here manage to add their 360 vacuum cleaner to home assistant and could share her/his wisdom with me? Thanks! Qolosys /alarm.com with smart things? Posted: 14 Oct 2020 01:26 PM PDT So basically I'm trying to see if it's possible to import/ control a qolosys panel/ alarm.com security system into a smart things hub / google home. So I can arm and disarm verbly and only need to use one app. My biggest issue with qolosys is it seems like such a waste to buy that panel if it's going to not be intergrwted with all of my other systems. Flashed Light disconnects after 19minutes Posted: 14 Oct 2020 08:29 AM PDT I flashed a merkury bulb i got from walmart a while back.
