Please help, I might be doing this wrong. Posted: 25 Jan 2021 07:38 PM PST I'm trying to build something just to act as a remote relay(a HUSBZB-1 connected to a Raspberry Pi 4)connected via ethernet to a server running the Home Assistant for automation. Does anyone know what software I could put on the Raspberry Pi to accomplish this? Also if it helps any, I plan on putting it all in its own vlan with no internet access so I'd like it to be all isolated. [link] [comments]

Can a Quitecool whole house fan be wired to a Shelly (1 or 2.5) Posted: 25 Jan 2021 10:55 PM PST Have a Quietcool whole fan wired to a timer and 2-speed switch. Can see the setup in the video( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phX0ypvz4ro) Quietcool has options (Wireless RF Control) https://quietcoolsystems.com/accessories/controls Would like more control with some automation and app control outside the house. I was thinking of using a Shelly 1 to solve this problem. If I'm wrong any help would be great [link] [comments]
Is there a reliable wired z-wave temperature sensor for a pool? Posted: 25 Jan 2021 06:17 PM PST Tried using a Fibaro FGBS-222 with a DS18B20 sensor but it randomly reports temperature spikes. Also tried a FGRGBW-442, but it doesn't show a thermometer device when connected. All the other products I could find have something like 3 stars talking about batteries dying and unreliable temperature readings. Using a ZeeS2 with HomeSeer for a controller. [link] [comments]
Automating 30-pin iPod speaker dock? Posted: 25 Jan 2021 05:52 PM PST I have a speaker dock (a Philips DC291/37) for my old 30-pin connected iPod (that I still use pretty frequently - both the device and the dock). I'd like to set up voice controls for this device, ideally some sort of Alexa/GHome integration, and am wondering what the easiest/best way to do this is. I have a few ideas including:
Anyone have any thoughts/ideas or done a similar setup before? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Best way to automate opening and closing plantation shutters? Posted: 25 Jan 2021 05:16 PM PST Anyone manage to do this? I just want the shutters to go up or down to let light in my room. [link] [comments]
Change TPlink smart switch Wifi access point credentials Posted: 25 Jan 2021 12:43 PM PST Guys, Is there an easy way update Wifi credentials on these switches without manually doing it one at a time? Thank you [link] [comments]
Best powering method for my old tablet Posted: 25 Jan 2021 03:55 PM PST Im currently rendering r/homeassistant in my old samsung galaxy tab with fully kiosk browser. I didnt make a hole at wall so I have to chargue the tablet once a day. I had a look fully kiosk browser like turn screen off at darkness or schedule wake up ( not works on mine) but results are the same. I need suggestions. Thank you [link] [comments]
Wireless 4-gang battery light switch Posted: 25 Jan 2021 05:33 PM PST Hi all, I'm looking for a light switch that can be wall mounted, is battery operated and is 4 gang. Ecosystem is irrelevant. Something like the Aqara Opple switches would be perfect if they could be mounted to the Australian standard 84mm screw holes. Essentially needs to be a wireless scene controller, 4 buttons but fit standard light switch mounting points... Any ideas? Thanks [link] [comments]
Why are there no Home Theater Receivers that let you push text to the screen? Posted: 25 Jan 2021 11:33 AM PST After integrating my Yamaha receiver with Home Assistant, I got to thinking... why are there no receivers that allow me to push messages to the screen? I mean, the receiver can obviously do this without disrupting the video. Every time I adjust the volume or source, it displays onscreen. I'd love to be able to push notifications to it. Heck, you might even be able to enable a feature like that with a simple software update for the receiver. Anyone know of one out there with that capability? It seems like the first one to do it would sell out fast to the home automation crowd. With where HA is today, I'm surprised I haven't seen it yet. Edit: Many of these receivers are ready to hook to external streaming sources and also have picture-in-picture capabilities. So I could also see it being fairly easy to push camera events to a PiP window, etc... I'd be scrambling for my wallets to be first to buy one. [link] [comments]
NFC on iPhone to start TP-Link Kasa? Posted: 25 Jan 2021 11:14 AM PST I've been toying around with NFC chips, and I want to try to use them to open my lights and start my fan using TP-Link Kasa smart switch and plug. So the automation process would look like this: I tap an NFC chip with my iPhone, then the heater connected to my smart plug would turn on, and my lights would also turn on. Any clue on how to make this possible? I have a programming background, so I can use HA if needed. If it's not possible, could I use an alternative smart switch+plug? [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Jan 2021 05:06 PM PST Hey all, was hoping someone can assist me and point me in the right direction on a few things here. I'm young and very into tech, and would consider myself pretty tech saavy. The whole smart home concept is extremely new to me though, so I want to learn. I'm confident I can operate things myself once installed simply by researching, but the installation and integration to a central hub is confusing to me. I also want to be sure I get the newest and coolest tech possible in all areas. I'm already going with ADT for alarm and cameras, but I declined there whole smart home automation package as they may be a home security leader, but I doubt they'll lead the pack in smart home devices. With that being said, can someone explain Smart Locks to me? Just moving in, I want to change my locks/keys obviously. Would getting smart locks essentially do this? Should I wait on a locksmith for an immediate key change, and just get smart locks installed because it will satisfy for me? (Smart home, and a lock with a new key). Just moving in this is the first thing I want to do, change the locks, so I figure starting with smart locks is best. Do people only do this on the front door? How about the garage door, or perhaps backyard/cabana doors?. Are there technicians with companies you may recommend that are versed in installing smart home technology? I have speakers everywhere in the ceilings of every room, but no idea how to control it. I bought from a realtor who fixed up the house but said he had no idea how to work them, they were there when he bought it. I imagine I need to hook up an amplifier somewhere but still can't find where it would go. There is an ONQHome panel here, but that seems filled with old devices (DirecTV and Ethernet cords) After that, what else is the move? I have 3 AC units, should I get 3 smart thermostats, what's the best? I'd love to be able to control thru Alexa to raise or lower the specific AC unit. Are light switches, or smart lights best? Both? I want the best tech possible, and have so many lights upstairs and downstairs all of them routed thru an Alexa or something to mass shut them off would be helpful. As you can see, I just moved in and don't know where to start. But I'm excited, and want to make my new home the smartest possible with the best tech. Any help or guidance in these areas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Zigbee/USB color temperature sensor? Posted: 25 Jan 2021 04:34 PM PST I'd like to illuminate the dark corners of my rooms to match what's coming through the window. To do this, I'll need to measure the color temperature of the incoming light. Is there an affordable device that does this? [link] [comments]
Standard size for light switches? Posted: 25 Jan 2021 12:04 PM PST I'm currently getting a new house built and the builder's specification mentioned that light switches are "Decora". I looked up this brand (Leviton) and found the DZ15S which has the additional benefit of being supported by Ring, so I planned to replace some of my switches with this one at some point. Now the builder has installed the switches and I've noticed that they're Legrand, not Leviton (the builder is allowed to use any other brand/model that matches the original specification). In terms of sizing, will I be able to replace some of them with the Leviton? Will they fit the face plate? [link] [comments]
Is it safe to assume the white wire is the neutral in my image? Posted: 25 Jan 2021 03:49 PM PST Trying to connect a TP-Link HS200 and need a neutral wire. Question on Zoned Thermostats like Honeywell EvoHome Posted: 25 Jan 2021 02:54 PM PST I have been looking at homes to purchase with one heating/cooling unit for 2 floors, however, I would like to have the basement floor have its own heating/cooling control, mostly for setting up a rental property. It seems the most *expensive* option would be to add another separate system, however, the vents and ducts already exist in the basement and are connected to the singular unit. One idea I had was to look into a multi-zoning control with my existing system (Honeywell EvoHome, for example), where I could, at the very least, set up a basement setup and a main floor setup. However, looking through the documentation and instructions online, it seems like most of the connections happen at the heating units themselves, so I don't understand how the vents themselves change. In other words, wouldn't there have to be some kind of device on the vents in each room that automatically opened and closed them based on the temperature that was set for that "zone"? Or does this somehow get handled at the main HVAC system itself? I thought it would require something in the actual rooms, since as far as I know, there is no actual "mapping" of the ducts back to the boiler/etc. [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Jan 2021 02:01 PM PST Anyone know of a Smart Home Switch, that say for example, you could press a button when you got home to lower your AC, Open blinds, set light scene, put on music, etc? [link] [comments]

Posted: 25 Jan 2021 12:35 PM PST Does anyone know if I can concurrently use Control4 and Alarm.com on a DSC NEO system? I know the default answer is going to be to use just Control4, but the alarm system management of the ADC platform is what is appealing. We want to have the serviceability of ADC but keep the integration of Control4. Is this possible, and if so, what set of devices accomplish this? I also posted in r/Control4 and hope that someone has an answer for this. Thanks! [link] [comments]
How I succesfully added devices to my problematic Wi-Fi router Posted: 25 Jan 2021 12:06 PM PST Connecting new devices to my netwotk has become harder for every device I've added. I have tried various solutions to get things working and always had some final "luck" to get it up and running. Once the setup is done every device will work without a problem on my smarthome setup. No problem att all with bad respons or anything like that. I have: - Apple TV - iPad - iPhone x4 (one for each family member) - 2 x Philips Hue hubs (obviously not Wi-Fi) + 70 accessories including lights, strips, plugs, sensors, plugs. - Roborock S5 robotic vacuum (Wi-Fi) - 8 Xiaomi cams (All Wi-Fi) - 2 Aqara hubs (Both Wi-Fi) and about 20 accessories including door sensors, temperature sensors, vibration sensors and light switches. Have mostly been using all my products with HomeKit and the MiHome app. My router is a Linksys ACM3200 running DD-WRT (flashed from Flashrouter) with VPN services. I need this solution for my AppleTV so that I can watch Swedish on-demand TV from Finland (due to area restrictions). I also have the providers Huawei router, from which my flashrouter is connected. I'm not sure if having two routers might be a thing that's causing the problems. Then there's a few problematic devices that I bought on different occations such as: - Aqara G2H camera and hub (Wi-Fi) - Xiaomi Air cleaner and humidifier (Wi-Fi) - 2x Koogeek lightstrips (Wi-Fi) - 2x Timethinker smart plugs (Wi-Fi) I had tried in so many ways to add the Koogeek lightstrips but initially had to give up. I ended up connecting the strip to my other router (providers) and that went without any problem. The fact that it connected so easily certifier my suspision that it was the router that was having problems, not the device itself. Recently I found a post that suggested You could trick devices like my Koogeek strip by having them added to another router named the same (same SSID) and having the same password. I disconnected my Linksys (to which the Apple TV is set up). Then renamed the providers Wi-Fi SSID. Added the Koogeek, Added Aqara and also the rest of the problematic devises. Disconnected providers Wi-Fi and connected the Linksys Wi-Fi. Boom! All of them (except the cheap Timethinker smart plugs) worked! Hope my experience will help someone add problematic devices, but I also hope that someone would have an explanation to why I'm experiencing problems with the "main" router. Have I done something wrong connecting the two routers together. Is there a setting that i should do to one of the routers? Is DD-WRT known for having connecting issues? [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Jan 2021 08:12 AM PST I just purchased some Globe Electric Wi-Fi Smart 60W equivalent bulbs for my living room. They're all connected and work fine when on except one bulb is out of sync with the others when changing colours. It's as if the stubborn bulb is gradually changing colour at a slower pace where the other ones are holding on one colour and changing suddenly. I'd like them all to be the same, but truth be told I'd be happier if they were all like the stubborn one. Any suggestions on how to remedy this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Jan 2021 11:02 AM PST Hello, I am trying to use zone on Yamaha receiver with Alexa. I completed the integration through the app and zone 2 is visible in Alexa devices. However, it shows up with device type as "Other". When I try to play music from Amazon music or ask Alexa to play music, it does not allow to that device. The main zone shows up as type "speakers" and is usable with voice commands and from the music app. Does anyone know how to use Zone2 with Alexa and Music app? [link] [comments] |
