    Stacked smart switches?

    Posted: 10 Apr 2021 05:01 PM PDT

I'm looking to make the bottom right light switch a smart switch, but unfortunately it's part of a double light switch. There's not enough room on the wall for a 3 gang switch box. It also can't be swapped with the full size switch next to it, because that's a 3 way switch and won't wire up to the single pole stacked switch properly. Any ideas? The mainstream smart switch companies don't make stacked smart switches, and I'm wary of the shady no name smart switches on Amazon.

    BedJet Automation? RF? API? Anything?

    Posted: 10 Apr 2021 01:29 PM PDT

Hey everyone, we have a BedJet and it's great even if a bit spendy. (girlfriend sleeps super warm, been a life saver for her).

However sometimes she forgets to turn it on when going to sleep. We already have NFC 'sleep' tags on our bed side which we use with Home Assistant.

I've looked but found NOTHING about being able to control this thing except for the very advanced remote it has (making me not very hopeful about a simple RF solution). The base device has wifi but as far as I can tell only turns it on for a few seconds when it's checking for updates.

Anyone else have one of these and automated turning it on somehow?

    Is there a smart bulb

    Posted: 10 Apr 2021 06:57 PM PDT

I've never owned a smart bulb before so i have no idea if this is a thing, but I wanted 2 smart bulbs hooked in to a traditional north american socket to know when one or the other is on. The idea is so people know if the bathroom is in use.

A bulb in the bathroom is powered? then the one next to the stairs activates.

Bulb in the bathroom loses power? Then the one in the dining room deactivates.

Is this a thing? Cheapish bulbs are OK as long as they reliably activate when needed.

How to unassign a button in Logitech MyHarmony

    Posted: 10 Apr 2021 06:37 PM PDT

Does anyone know if it is possible to unassign a button in the Logitech MyHarmony software? I assigned a button something, but now changed my mind and would like to assign it back to nothing. Am I missing something because I cannot figure out for the life of me how to just unassign a button!

Shark ion rv750 not connecting to dock

    Posted: 10 Apr 2021 05:44 AM PDT

Long story short, we got a vacuum (Kirby) for a few years before it broke down and we got a 2nd vacuum. I managed to repair the old one so we could have one on each floor, but now the old vacuum (Frankenkirby) won't connect to its base.

By "connect" it will charge if i place it on the charger, however, if I push the dock button it will not go toward the base, just aimlessly goes in wrong direction. When I put on base the light does not turn blue on the base (light stays green). I've tried googling but everything just troubleshoots what to do if vacuum isn't charging (apparently blue light confirms it is charging). Vacuum is definitely charging but just won't go to his home (channeling my inner happy Gilmore)

I've tried turning off, unplugging, etc. Any ideas?

Kasa 3way 210 switch on and off not working

    Posted: 10 Apr 2021 09:48 AM PDT

I have 5 different three way kasa switches in my house. All of the switches can be activated through Alexa and mobile app. There is one 3 way that can turn on my light through the on and off switch but the other side can't. Both sides show that they are configured to each other. It was orginally working for the first 4 months but now it's only one side that I can't manually turn off the light. I have looked to see if any wires came loose but they are all where they need to be. Any ideas...

    Home Automation Closet

    Posted: 10 Apr 2021 09:46 AM PDT

I have a home wiring closet with approx 50 Cat 5e and as many Coax RG-6 cables coming from various walls in my house. The closet is approx 3' x 2' x 8' with a plywood board across the widest wall in the closet half the height to mount anything. Cables are all about 20-30' long. Cleaning it up in prep for organization and wondering the length to trim the cables not knowing exactly what I want to do yet. Simple stuff with basically modem, router, and switches. Maybe a panel to punch down or patch cables but not sure yet. WiFi is so efficient and fast now that ethernet direct is becoming less important. I currently have a Deco mesh system that will be ethernet backhauled and may switch to Ubiquiti but in any case WiFi will be the primary driver with the exception of a few PoE driven devices, so many/most cables won't ever be used but want next homeowner to have access! Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    roborock s5 max, valetudo

    Posted: 10 Apr 2021 02:05 AM PDT

    Hi,

I'm most likely ordering a Roborock S5 Max in the coming days. I've seen some documentation and youtube video on installing Valetudo on it and it seems quite doable.

In practice, are there any downsides to patching the S5 Max with Valetudo (apart from losing warranty)? I've seen the list of supported functions but not owning a robot vacuum yet, it's difficult for me to see whether Valetudo comes with fewer functionalities than the original firmware.

    Thank you/

KNX, Ipads + gira X1 and doorbell stations

    Posted: 10 Apr 2021 02:31 PM PDT

Hi, I plan to buy 2 ipads (one per floor) for home control solution. I planned to get Gira X1 to be the heart of the system, but I'm not sure if it would be possible to connect the door intercom to the system. I was considering 3 vendors for the doorbell camera, Doorbird, Akuvox or Dahua.

Is it even possible to integrate the Gira Home app to utilize the door stations for answering or those systems need to be separate and will not integrate nicely?

An old automation is performing bad! I was wiling to change everything to tuya modules + wall switches. All the lights wires goes to one centralized place. I will need to pair all the wifi switches with the respectively modules that would be installed in that place. Will i get performance issues?

    Local API pet feeder?

    Posted: 10 Apr 2021 07:48 AM PDT

I was wondering if anyone knows of an automatic pet feeder for my cat that has local (non-cloud) control. I currently have one that connects to the cloud, but I don't love it.

I don't mind if a new feeder runs a web GUI on port 80, uses MQTT, or whatever. I just prefer locally controlled devices without cloud dependencies.

Is anyone aware of a product that might fit here?

    Anyone used Motorized Leviosa Shades??

    Posted: 10 Apr 2021 01:40 PM PDT

Looking to add some blackout motorized shades in my basement / theater room to cover a sliding glass door. Found this brand Leviosa that says it works with Alexa. They are also alot cheaper than some of the other options out there but I'm not seeing alot of reviews. Hoping someone on here has used them and can provide feedback.

Couple of questions about LED, WLED and HA

    Posted: 10 Apr 2021 07:10 AM PDT

    Hey,

I'm about to order first parts for my WLED kitchen project but came across a couple of things I would like to consult.

I decided to go with SK6821 RGBW strips and will be using 5m for bottom light and 5m for top ambient lighting. It seems to me that SK6821 are made only in 5V, so I'm planning on making a power injection on both sides. I was looking for 12V but didn't find any. I want to use one PSU for both strips and the controllers, but it says in the product description, that power usage for SK6821 60 LEDs/M is 18W/M - is that accurate? It doesn't correspond with the other info I found online. It would mean I have to use at least 5V 40A which seems excessive to me.

Another thing is, that I would like the possibility to control the bottom LED stript via some switch, as it'll be use as regular lightning in the kitchen, but I'm not sure how to do that, as I also want to be able to control it via WLED/ Home Assistant, so switch which will kill power is not an option. I was looking for some sort of Zigbee solution, as I'm planning on using Zigbee elsewhere in the house, but didn't find anything. What switch I should use so it can be switched on and off both manualy and via Home Assistant?

Thanks a lot for any help!

Do I need a hub for each brands?

    Posted: 10 Apr 2021 07:04 AM PDT

I had a couple of Orvibo switches laying around and decided to upgrade some dumb switches. I thought the Orvibo switch did not needed a hub since it wasn't written on the box. Unfortunately, after installing the first one I noticed that an Orvibo Hub is needed.

I already have an August Connect, Google Hub, Sinope Gateway (GT125), a Blink Gateway and a Lenovo Tablet Dock with Alexa.

Do I really need to buy a Orvibo Hub or there's a way to add the switch to one of my existing hubs?

    Alternative to Ikea blinds

    Posted: 10 Apr 2021 12:54 PM PDT

I'm wanting to get some smart blinds and like a lot of people my first thought was the Ikea ones. I've also read that honestly they aren't that great and pretty hit or miss.

I've seen some electric blinds with a remote that I'm wondering if I can essentially turn it smart with an RF blaster like a broadlink? Is everyone of those type of remotes compatible with RF blasters.

I'm buying an house and already thinking about possible automations I can put in place, what device do you guys suggest to manage this roller shutters setup?

    Posted: 10 Apr 2021 12:20 PM PDT

Hello, I'll start by saying that I'm an absolute smart home/automation noob, so please, if you notice anything very wrong with what I'm asking let me know...

I'm in the process of purchasing an home that has mothorized roller shutters, in a setup that looks like this (please appreciate the paint skills).

Do you know of a device (smart switch I think?) that could help automating that for the future? I haven't seen too many suggestions for automating shutters/light blinds in this subreddit...

Are these the options when buying WiFi/IP camera for smooth stream?

    Posted: 10 Apr 2021 11:25 AM PDT

For good smooth high quality (full sensor potential whatever it is) it's either:

    • powerful integrated processor that can keep up and compress video on time

    or

    • weak integrated processor but high bandwidth consumption because of uncompressed/slighty compressed video

If that's the case then I'm wondering why my phone from 2019 can't do #2 and just send smooth 30 fps uncompressed/slightly compressed video and instead drops frames when on HQ setting? WiFi bandwidth is adequate.

    Cam anyone explain?

I have an air conditioner from LG with ThinQ, is there any way I can automate it with temperature sensors through SmartThings or any other platform?

    Posted: 10 Apr 2021 02:53 PM PDT

The LG ThinQ is severely lacking, I can control all the features of the AC but the only possible routines they offer is turn on when I'm home and turn off when I'm not.

I have many SmartThings sensors and I'm wondering if it's possible to automate the AC based on the temperature readings from these sensors or based on the outside temperature. I looked at IFTTT and it doesn't seem to work with LG air conditioning units.

This is my air conditioner: https://www.lg.com/ca_en/heating-and-cooling/lg-LW1517IVSM

    Any advice would be welcome!

    Alternative to Hubitat?

    Posted: 10 Apr 2021 06:56 AM PDT

I got a Hubitat when I bought my house, but its just been a pain.

On paper its great, all local rules, no internet connectivity required, lots of device support

But, in actual use, it kinda sucks. I often get issues where the UI becomes PAINFULLY slow, a reboot or just applying the next update fixes it. It will also sometimes stop showing a dashboard, I click on it, and nothing. A reboot fixes that too

Also for how open it is, why can't I select my own icons for devices? I must choose their icons which are not very good. For something that is supposed to be endlessly customizable, it seems a bit of a limitation

Then there is the UI, oh my god its terrible. Nothing is intuitive at all, its a mess

And then the device support, yeah it works, as long as you are willing to scroll through the forums and hope someone else figured something out

If there was simply auto-update, it would probably solve half my issues. How is it 2021 and I have to apply updates manually? This is an AUTOMATION device, but I can't automate its own updates? I have everything AUTOMATED so I don't need to get into the UI often

Don't get me started on the mobile "app" which is just a wrapped for viewing it in a browser...

Maybe its just me having these issues, but its gotten a little old. Is there another all-local hub?
