Lights automatically follow me around the house?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2021 01:16 PM PDT

Here's what I want: Some lights controlled by time of day/light level, and others automatically come on and turn off as I enter and leave the room. Is this possible/reliable?

I know there are movement, presence, and light sensors. But do they work well enough to do what I envision?

Logi Circle 2-what would cause white floating orb in this video. I got notification after all lights were off and there is no windows in this are or car headlights that could have caused this.

Can “indoor” cameras be used in protected outdoor areas, such as under eves?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2021 06:15 PM PDT

I assume "outdoor" means weatherproofed. I live in Sacramento, where we don't much rain and no snow. Would an "indoor" camera work if it's in a protected spot?

extractor fan powered by wifi light switch ?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2021 02:37 PM PDT

Is there any reason why i can't replace my current 2 gang light switch (which powers the light and a extractor fan in the bathroom) with a smart wifi light switch ?

I'm sure the light will work but will the fan ?

I think i have a neutral wire as well as i'm not a fan of these 1amp capacitors

    Reliable Smart deadbolt recommendations

    Posted: 18 Apr 2021 03:17 PM PDT

Hello all - quick question. I currently have an old Kwikset "smart" lock (deadbolt), which basically is a turd for me. Does anyone have any recommendations for a nice, reliable smart dead bolt? Ideally wifi, but I can work with zigbee/zwave if I have to.

    Thanks!

Button pusher and temperature sensor combo?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2021 02:51 AM PDT

Currently living in a rental with very outdated air conditioning units that have two modes - on and off. When on, the unit's fans will run constantly with the compressor blowing cold air until the temperature set on the thermostat is reached. The compressor will then shut off but the fans will continue to blow warm air and make a lot of noise also leading to very expensive electrical bills. Off is off. Each AC unit has its own thermostat and controller on the wall and they do not come with remote controls so smart remotes aren't an option. I would like to find something that would act as a smart switch to go from on to off once a certain room temperature is reached. Basically replicating what we do now, by pushing the on/off button with a low temperature set on the AC unit to ensure that cold air would come out until the desired temperature of the room is reached and then press the button again to turn the unit off. Mostly will be useful for when we're asleep or are not home as we have pets and want to be sure we can keep the rooms ambient for them.

Any recommendations on "button pushers" that could be installed on the wall mounted thermostats and paired with smart temperature sensors that could trigger when a certain temperature in the room is reached? I don't want to mess around with rewiring, etc as we don't own and frankly are looking to save money on electrical bills so are hoping for a basic workaround. Smart thermostats aren't compatible with these old units (nest, etc) either.

    Axis Gear Question

    Posted: 18 Apr 2021 09:20 AM PDT

If anyone could help or point me in the right direction, that'd be greatly appreciated.

I'm looking at the Axis Gear , which explicitly lists support for beaded loop shades. I, however, have a string or a corded loop. I was wondering if anyone knew if the string/cord was compatible with the axis gear.

    Posted: 18 Apr 2021 11:56 PM PDT

My house needs to be renovated, but I have not decided whether to install Smart Home Devices in my home. On the one hand, I know this will bring a lot of convenience to my life, but on the other hand, I am worried that it will leak mine. privacy.

In over my head! Multi zone AV distribution

    Posted: 18 Apr 2021 07:59 PM PDT

Hello everyone! To get right to it, I have a new home! I am putting klipch pro series 8" speakers in ceiling: stereo pair in bedroom, 5.1 in Living Room.

I have been away from home AV distribution for a while and having trouble searching what I'm trying to find!

I need to be able to have 4 or more sources be able to be viewed and heard at either location (bedroom or living room)

I need an avr of course, but what about controlling this setup? Will I need IR repeating setup? AIO remote? Can someone recommend a reasonable (sub $1,000ish) way to control this simple (or so I thought) setup, or point me in a direction that might offer some advice?

I was an integrator but it's been many years since I've been in the field and am absolutely lost to what I even need to begin searching for! Not to mention all these product options yeesh!

A few may need to knows: I may want to expand in the future (more zones) I may want more involved automation down the road but I need strictly AV for now.

4K HDR of course. 2.1/2, 10bit, CP2.1, etc etc compliant sources.

Thanks in advance, I'm available to offer any insight needed to help you help me for the next few hours or so!

Are in-line smart switches a thing?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2021 09:01 PM PDT

I really want to convert the lights on my ceiling fan to work with my small set up.

I could get a switch for the wall but I want to control the fan and light separately. I don't care to much about the fan being smart as it stays on low most the time.

I was hoping there is some kind of module that I can wire directly into the power line going to the lights. I haven't found anything yet.

The best idea I have right now is tearing a smart plug apart and finding a safe way to use that. But I'm not confident it wouldn't burn my house down.

    Thanks for any advice.

Mixing Z-Wave and ZigBee? Do it? Don't?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2021 04:35 AM PDT

    Hi,

What's the consensus here about mixing Z-Wave and ZigBee devices?

I have ~25 Z-Wave Switches in my walls. I want to add door, window, motion sensors. Should I leave it all on Z-Wave or there is a benefit to have the sensors on ZigBee while the switches are not?

    Thanks

    Neato D4 a good choice?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2021 02:58 PM PDT

Amazon has a renewed (3 month return window) Neato D4 for $200 and it seems like a decent model with Lidar navigation that doesn't break the bank.

I tried a Roomba 675 (on sale everywhere for $200) and it's frustrating to see it in action. Boxed it right back up to return.

My budget is at <$250. Is the D4 a good choice?

    Automating bathroom lights

    Posted: 18 Apr 2021 12:38 PM PDT

    Hey guys,

I am trying to automate my 2 bathroom lights. The desired result would be like this: a motion sensor triggers the lights (both while its daytime, only one at night). There are normal separate wall switches for them which I would like to replace with smart ones that don't require neutral line. Also I would place a door sensor so if the door is closed and there is motion inside the lights would not go out, but in case the door is open and theres no motion it would turn off. I found some solutions for this with Sonoff but my concern is that I wouldnt like to use another hub, I would rather stick to Smartthings. Is it possible to do? I found some sensors and wall switches from Sonoff but the wall switches do not seem to be working within Smartthings ecosystem. Could you please give some ideas how it would be possible? Thank you so much.

    Looking For Buttons!

    Posted: 18 Apr 2021 12:57 PM PDT

I recently found out that Samsung is getting out of the hardware business.

I have 3 of the Smartthings buttons, the ones that support, single press, double press and press and hold. I am looking for more of those, or an equivalent buttons. I will mainly be using them for lights and I have all IKEA lights, and I refuse to use their hub. They work perfectly with Hubitat Elevation natively. I am looking for a button like the Smartthings one, or very similar that works out of the box natively with Hubitat Elevation.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated! I personally and just sick of having multiple hubs for everything!

    Things I have tried

    1. I have tried Lutron Pico Remote, but I apparently need to buy their hub for it to work.
    2. I have tried the IKEA Circle Puck Remote, but it was not pairing properly and it tended to take control on some of the near by lights without permission. I had to remove and re-add the lights to get them to work with Hubitat Elevation again. I will not be buying their hub.

I was thinking of trying the Xiaomi Aqara line of products, but I saw it needed a custom device code or driver or something for it to work, and got a bit lost. But if their products work directly with Hubitat Elevation I would be really happy!

(Aus) smart switch to replace 4 gang (2 witches, 1 dinner and 1 fan) ?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2021 06:13 AM PDT

So I'm trying to find a solution in Australia for my existing dumb lighting setup. I've got a single, 4 gang plate. 1x switch for living room lights, 1x dimmer for those lights, 1x switch for corridor lights and 1x 3 speed fan dial.

Does anybody know of a smart switch drop-in replacement for such a unit? Thanks!
