Posted: 15 Jun 2020 07:56 PM PDT What's your opinion on getting one of these? Personally I don't mind mowing the lawn, but I like the freedom of not having to do it from time to time. [link] [comments]
My Schlage Connect just died - Smartthings Replacement? Posted: 16 Jun 2020 12:20 AM PDT I've really enjoyed this lock. I had it set up to open when any family member got close through integration with life360. Seemed really bullet proof until it died. What is a good replacement? My main requirement is compatibility through smartthings. User friendly for kids would be great too. They figured out how to use a code to unlock the old one. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Can I still use on/off wall switches if I install a smart module in the light fixture? Posted: 15 Jun 2020 05:43 AM PDT I found a smart module on eBay called nue zigbee 3.0 light controller, which you install in a row of looped lights. This allows it to connect to a hubitat hub and gives me access to the light in homekit. My question is if I can still turn the lights on and off with the normal wall switch while keeping the functionality of the smart switch. So if a family member turns off the light from the normal on/off switch can I turn it back on using my phone? Any such module I find online states it won't interfere with the light switch, however when I asked an electrician he said it would need to be on all the time so it can get power. If that's the case is there a work around to this ? Appreciate any response. Link to the switch https://www.ebay.com/itm/132970576687 [link] [comments]
Xiaomi Mi Flora - Update 3.2.2 Posted: 16 Jun 2020 01:21 AM PDT Anyone else had trouble with the 3.2.2 update? After the update, my device won't show up on any Bluetooth search anymore. Tried to change batteries, wait a few days, etc. but still nothing. It seems like it is dead all of a sudden. And it happened after the 3.2.2 update. [link] [comments]

Best smart lock for homes with nest ecosystem? Posted: 15 Jun 2020 05:50 PM PDT Nest lock should be obvious, but on paper it appears awfully outdated - no BT, no fingerprint, and it's from 2018. The only saving grace is the integration with nest secure. Are there any better alternatives? [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 Jun 2020 06:33 AM PDT Does anyone know when they will ship? The only information I could find is that they planned to beging shipping early this year... [link] [comments]

SONOFF Mini/ Shelly 1 using existing light switches Posted: 15 Jun 2020 01:18 PM PDT This might be a dumb questions but from what I understand both Sonoff Mini and Shelly 1 can be wired up in a way that I can still use my existing light switches to turn stuff off and on. I just want to make sure I am understanding what this looks like from the "end users" standpoint. Currently when I flip the switch up (on position) the light turns on and with I flip the switch down (Off position) the light turns off. When I add in the Sonoff or Shelly I am guessing this concept of up is on and down is off will go away. It now won't really matter if the switch is up or down, flipping the switch will now result in the status change of the light. If the light was on it will change to off and vice versa. Is this a correct way of thinking? [link] [comments]

CT101 and VeraPlus off by 2 degrees Posted: 15 Jun 2020 04:27 PM PDT Just received my VeraPlus and connnected to CT101 radio thermostat. Seems to be mostly working except for when i set a temp on the app it shows up on the thermostat 2 degrees off. So for example if I set the temp to 76 degrees on the app it'll set at 78 degrees on the thermostat. Anyone else seeing this behavior and have you addressed it? [link] [comments]

Leviton Decora Switch "Unable to join the network" issue during set up Posted: 15 Jun 2020 03:49 PM PDT Has anyone experienced this before? I've factory reset the switch a couple times with no luck. iPhone is using v13.5.1 and My Leviton app v2.1.58. Green LED is blinking, the network name is showing up in WiFi, but cannot connect. I am unable to set up this switch right now. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Philips Hue and Lifx: Are both product's app supporting routing funtionality? Posted: 15 Jun 2020 07:02 AM PDT I'm still not sure yet which of both lightning systems to choose for my new house:
or
One question for which I did not find an answer yet is whether both apps are supporting their traffic to be routed when putting the according physical device(s) in a separate IoT VLAN but controlling them with my Android apps from a different trusted VLAN? Will this work for both systems, Hue bridge and Lifx lights? Thank you in advance. [link] [comments]

Posted: 15 Jun 2020 09:39 AM PDT My utility company offers a good rebate ($100 off!) on the Google Nest E and the ecobee3 Lite so I'm trying to decide which is best for our uses. We have single zone radient baseboard gas heat in the house and oir automation is currently limited to Philips Hue lights and an Echo Show but I'm planning to expand on that later. I'm not looking for much beyond being able to program day/night/vacation settings and being able to monitor/adjust remotely from my phone. Does anyone have experience with either/both of these? Smart fixture overloads on lowest settings since installed Tasmota? Posted: 15 Jun 2020 01:12 PM PDT Hi, I'm at my wits end with this light and Tasmota. It's a generic ESP light, and ever since I have installed Tasmota, it just won't stay on. On the lowest and dimmest possible light settings, it continues to give an exception that I've been told is "overloading" before turning off. I am at a complete loss and am being driven insane. Any ideas? https://fccid.io/2ARWQ08-24/Internal-Photos/Internal-photos-4526990 [link] [comments]
Posted: 15 Jun 2020 12:43 PM PDT My front yard has some lamp posts which make the circle drive more inviting at night. Is there a way to control these with a built in homelink garage door opener and google home at the same time? Bonus points if they can automatically turn off after ten minutes. [link] [comments]

Smart HVAC for Pasonic Ducted Setup Posted: 15 Jun 2020 10:54 AM PDT Trying to figure out if I can use any Nest product on my current setup. So my home has two zones, both are ducked. The zone in question uses a Panasonic U-36LE1U6 compressor and a Panasonic return. Currently I use an IntesisHome to connect to the return. I am pretty sure this setup uses a Wired remote sensor and it won't work with Nest. Am I wrong? Are there other options out there as far as Smart systems or am I limited to IntesisHome? I hate IntesisHome because their support STINKS and its always loosing connection. I guess this i just commonplace with these remote sensors? [link] [comments]
Mitsubishi split AC heads just got installed. What are my HA options? Posted: 15 Jun 2020 09:52 AM PDT We just got AC installed in our old house - three Mitusbishi M-series mini-split AC units with heat-pump heat. We use HomeKit (and HomeBridge) for all of our HA right now, but have none of our HVAC tied in (heat is an old boiler with hot water radiators, connected to a 'dumb' $30 programmable thermostat). It seems like integrating these types of AC units into HA is slightly non-trivial - they are basically designed to run individually and are tightly integrated with their individual IR remotes, not really meant to be switched remotely with a traditional thermostat system... or at least that's what I've gathered from some initial reading. Mitsubishi sells a Kumo Cloud add-on, but a lot of people seem to prefer a 3rd party unit that learns the IR remote control signals and operates the units that way. Why is that? Also, Kumo support for HomeKit seems a bit hacky at the moment (maybe would work via IFTTT and HomeBridge... definitely sounds unsupported though). I'm not totally opposed to switching to a different core HA system than HomeKit, but all things being equal would prefer something that works reliably with HomeKit. HomeKit mostly just works and is easy for more non-technical members of the household and visitors to operate, as long as they use iPhones. I'm even open to building my own ESP + IR diode + HomeBridge type of DIY solutions or something, but definitely want something that will work properly and be reliable... Ideas? [link] [comments]
Anyone base configuration on who's home based on what's connected to wifi? Posted: 15 Jun 2020 08:59 AM PDT I'd like to track whose at my house for purposes of system configuration and I think just tracking what devices are connected to wifi would be a pretty good approximation. I could likely do a docker container to track devices and assign devices to people. Then make that info available to something doing the configuration dynamically. If this set of people are home, set the temp to T or if I'm home alone and its between these hours, play loud heavy metal until someone comes home. Maybe if I have an app on the phones to track signal strength I could triangulate location and guess where everyone was. But that's assuming more then I'd like to at the moment. But I'd like to know if anyones done this as a project for home automation or is it too risky in terms of tracking? I don't want to reinvent the wheel. [link] [comments] |
