Has anyone installed Dome Water Shutoff Valve on Pex piping? Posted: 26 Jul 2020 04:05 PM PDT I have a fairly new construct (3 years old) which has pex piping (see pic). Has anyone installed Dome water shut off valve on Pex. All the videos I've seen are with copper and I don't know if Pex is strong enough to hold this. [link] [comments]

Best affordable motorized blinds for large windows. Posted: 26 Jul 2020 02:13 PM PDT So I just moved into a new apartment in a highrise that has 10ft by 6 foot windows which are nice, until the sun comes in as it sets to the west which heats up the place. I looked at ikea blinds but they seem to be half the length I need. Does anyone have any brands I should look into? My hub right now is Smartthings linked with an Amazon Echo. Any advice is much appreciated. [link] [comments]

Hard-wired dimmers => default light dimming levels depending on the time of day? Posted: 26 Jul 2020 08:04 PM PDT I'm looking for a way to have in-wall programmable light dimming switches have different default light dimming levels depending on the time of day. I sorta had this going with Hue but am moving to a new house with lots of LED fixtures I can't upgrade the light bulbs. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]

What are some options, I'm confused how to best set this up over Plex is on windows currently [link] [comments]
Control Google Home light group with Harmony Elite remote? Posted: 26 Jul 2020 10:19 PM PDT So I have a mess of different lights, switches, dimmers of different brands, but they are linked in Google home to a room and can be controlled together obviously. It is one c by ge dimmer, one my ts light switch, and some wyze bulbs. I would LOVE to be able to use the home control buttons on my Harmony Elite remote to dim that whole group, or even just the dimmer switch. Short of setting up a hue emulator which is way over my head, is there any way to make this work? [link] [comments]
A very noob question about hubs and routines... Posted: 26 Jul 2020 10:17 PM PDT I'm extremely new to home automation, and I'm a bit lost in understanding how they all work in the big picture. The simplest thing I'm trying to do is have a light, that says it can work with Alexa/Google Home, to turn on/off based on a time trigger(so say on at 9AM and off at 9PM). From here, I'm not really sure about a few points...

Suggestions for Blind Motors for California Shutter type Blinds? Posted: 26 Jul 2020 09:31 PM PDT Hi Any suggestions for motors to control California Shutter type blinds - preferably with Home Assistant? Blinds are wood/plastic horizontal slats that are all connected to each other so only need to rotate one slat and they all rotate. Any motors for these types of blinds already available? Thanks! Posted: 26 Jul 2020 09:02 PM PDT I'm wanting a new thermostat but I noticed the newer ones with WiFi need a C wire, and I believe I have one but need to confirm it. Here are some images (the second image is the back of my thermostat). I'm confused because my Circuit board doesn't actually say C wire, but it's an ST9160A 1002 and online says it has one right where I think it is (in between the R and W). Also there are two red wires hooked up to the Circuit board, one hooked up to the R and one where I think the C is. Is the red one coming out of my wall the C or R wire? My unit provides heating and cooling if that helps. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]

Posted: 26 Jul 2020 06:27 PM PDT I recently bought a house and am in the process of wiring everything up. We had floor plans commissioned (the house was built in 1991, but we couldn't locate any), and want to do a light/electrical diagram to trace back all the three and four-way switches and circuits. MagicPlan has this on iPad, but its slow and buggy. I have the DWG and PDF's. Does anyone have good software (Mac or Windows) that could help do this? [link] [comments]

Can't Add/Reconnect Some Leviton Deocra WiFi Switches Posted: 26 Jul 2020 12:57 PM PDT I've been slowly expanding my smart home and have added several Decora WiFi switches. I have two that I cannot get to connect. I get as far as the step where you connect to its WiFi network, but when I select "Leviton Device XXXX", my phone immediately disconnects from it. I've successfully connected several other switches, so it's not a WiFi issue within the house or a settings issue on my device. Some additional useful info: Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated! [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Jul 2020 05:24 AM PDT I just need a single bulb in my bedroom Essentially the light switch is not that close to the bed at all, so you have to use your phone light to find your way back to the bed. I'd rather just turn it off when it's next to me I saw this https://www.reddit.com/r/homeautomation/comments/7o56zx But that doesn't help. I'm in rented accommodation and I'd really just want to change the bulb and that's it. I live in the UK too [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Jul 2020 03:01 PM PDT I have a desk lamp that takes a E14 bulb and I would like to put a smart bulb in. I need a light that can change brightness, warmth/hue, and color. The problem is that the total length must be 10 cm or less. Is there anything that will fit? [link] [comments]
Questions about getting started with HA Posted: 26 Jul 2020 10:35 AM PDT I'm currently considering my options for getting started into HA. I am wondering if I was to get a zwave switch, am I able to do advanced logic in homeassistant (or is there a different hub software that would be better for me) where I can set up: 1) different functions for short vs long press. 2) different functions depending on what devices are currently on in the end I'm hoping to achieve something like: press "on" to turn on device "a", press "on" detect device "a" is already on, so turn on device "b" press "on" detect device "a" and "b" are already on, so turn on device "c" short pressing off would reverse this logic, long pressing off would turn all devices off. I have a background in software development, so I'm not too concerned about scripting the above logic assuming there is a platform/language I can use to do so edit: to add to my question, it would be great if I could use something like this: https://www.aartech.ca/hs-wd200plus/homeseer-wd200-zwave-plus-wall-dimmer.html but override the lights to indicate which devices are on instead of dimmer brightness (I am fine not using the output from the switch itself) [link] [comments]
Help to find smart translation tool! Posted: 26 Jul 2020 10:34 AM PDT I often found that when I am reading a book or magazine (in english for example) there might be a word or meaning that sometimes is very crucial to understand the whole context what's being said. In my case it's usually swedish or other nordic languages, maybe some german as well. And I'm looking for a smart device to give me such service without me having to always pick up my smartphone or laptop to find the translation, it just makes the procedure so lengthy. I want flow and smooth. I've seen some options like Worldpenscan X - a cool complement with access to "All" languages that scans it directly to your phone or computer by Bluetooth - Still not really what I'm looking for since I still have to go to my phone or computer. I know I sound lazy but sometimes I read magazines and books in bed and I don't want to go over to my phone which is charging at the end of the room, lock it up, open an app, translate and then go back. I want to avoid my phone in bed. You also need internet access for translation... Quicktionary 2 - a device that seems to be outdated but probably more what I'm actually looking for since everything is right there. A small little black screen that looks like a Nokia 3310 with a translation of the word also with synonyms and a stupid robot voice pronouncing the word for me. This thing looks handy but maybe old? Anyone have any tips for better devices /tools? Maybe you own one of these and could give some feedback? Or advice for better/smarter tools? Im sorry if this is not the right subreddit for this sort of a question and let me know if there is a better sub for this. And sorry for a long post and probably bad english and grammar. Brilliant Switches Home Assistant integration questions and ideas Posted: 26 Jul 2020 08:21 AM PDT I want some smart switches with displays and intercom features without having to wall-mount tablets so I was looking at the Brilliant Switches. But unfortunately they aren't open and don't integrate directly into Home Assistant. So here's my plan..
Thoughts? Anything I'm overlooking? Anyone have experience with these switches and the compromises required to integrate them into Home Assistant or perhaps a better alternative? [link] [comments]
Camera/Door bell 24/7 recording Alternative? Posted: 26 Jul 2020 02:04 PM PDT I recently picked up a Ring door bell and was planning on getting tied into their ecosystem with their indoor cameras and a few of their security system like the keypad and door sensors. I prefer to have everything on one app and not fumbling through 4 or 5 apps which is why I was going to stick with Ring. But the performance on the doorbell has been iffy, I figured it might be because it needs some tweaking. In the meantime I was about to pickup some indoor cameras. But I soon found out that they don't offer 24/7 recording across all their devices which is a big deal breaker for me, which is a shame. I was especially intrigued by the ability to "pause" certain cameras from recording when the alarm on the keypad was armed or not. I also was interested in their other products like flood sensors, smoke detectors and all that. Having all my security cameras, door bells and all that on one app is very much preferred. Are there any alternatives to Ring? One that provides doorbells, indoor/outdoor cameras, a "lite" security system all that's compatible with Alexa and Apple HomeKit? And provides 24/7 recording?
