Posted: 01 Aug 2020 07:24 PM PDT I'm trying to avoid adding yet another device to my WiFi so an IR LED controller with dimming and color selection would be the best option for me. I'm just fine with a DIY controller that may need some programming. USB power for the controller would be a huge bonus so I can avoid running another AC cable from the TV to the surge protector but I know I can't always have everything haha. My biggest concern is low heat and brightness since this will be behind an expensive 65" TV that's mounted very close to the wall. I'm okay with spending a bit more for a high quality RGBWW LED strip. I think I'll be using the LEDs in Warm White mode most of the time but I'd like the option to use all different RGB colors sometimes. My setup includes a Harmony Ultimate Home remote and Hub. I also have an Echo dot in the room (and throughout the house) and a full Insteon setup for the rest of the lighting in the household. I haven't been able to find a cost effective solution to add an LED strip to the Insteon setup unfortunately but I believe I can easily add it as another IR device to my Harmony setup. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. There's just way too much general information on this subject online so I can't find enough specifics to make an educated decision on my own. Hoping to hear from people that have gone through the same search and come up with a good solution. [link] [comments]

Fire Tablet HD 8 in Wall mount, Tap to Wake? Posted: 01 Aug 2020 10:15 PM PDT What are people using to Wake thief Amazon Fire tablet (I'm using an HD 8 2020 WO Ads). And I have an enclosed wall mount therefore I can't hit the Hone key to wake it. So what are people using? And is there an app that will use the cam as a motion to wake it? [link] [comments]

Posted: 01 Aug 2020 11:45 AM PDT There are waaay too many lights for me to turn on and off in my newly purchased home so I'm looking to add smart relays behind the existing switches. I have a few z-wave devices so I was thinking maybe something like a Fibaro Dimmer 2. Otherwise Shellys seem to come recommended, does anyone have an opinion regarding these options? I've heard they are adible when you flip their corresponding switches. Also if I go this route will I need to install a device behind each switch or only one switch in the circuit (i.e. for 3 or 4 way switches). Thanks! [link] [comments]
Automate battery powered lighting - under counter (hubitat/caseta house) Posted: 01 Aug 2020 10:18 AM PDT Hey everyone! My wife was just asking me this morning about putting some under counter (and under shelf) lighting up in the kitchen. The under counter lighting isn't too big of a deal and doesn't have to be battery powered because I have a power source (hood vent fan) close by for power. But, she also wants some under a shelf that is on the other side of the kitchen and no real good way to get power from an outlet to the actual lighting location (and having the wiring hidden). This got me to wondering if there is a decent battery powered option that I could implement. I currently have a Hubitat Evolution and Caseta setup (pico remotes, etc). Does anyone know of a way that I could have a Pico remote invoke a command to turn on some battery powered led strips? I'm pretty new to HA, and I haven't yet found any chain of products that would do the trick. Curious what you're creative thought were. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Google Home routines have stopped working. Posted: 01 Aug 2020 05:00 PM PDT Anyone else having an issue with Google Home routines? This is the second time I've set up routines and they stop working after a few weeks. All the routines do is turn on and off lights at a certain time. I get a notification that the routine ran but the lights don't turn on or off. If I say the command or trigger the routine from my phone it works just fine. [link] [comments]
Air conditioning and heating control Posted: 01 Aug 2020 03:35 PM PDT My mom complains that the heating/air condition unit always automatically turns on the fan and circulates the air even when the system is set to off. She says it dries her eyes. If I replace the control unit that's mounted on the wall with another one, would that solve the issue and give her more control so she can turn it off? Do I need to rewire replace the actual heat/air condition unit itself? I don't want to spend a lot of money so just trying to understand how I can fix this issue for my mom fairly inexpensively. What temp control unit would you guys recommend? [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Aug 2020 09:06 AM PDT Hey all. Sorry in advance if this isn't the correct sub to post this. I guess it's not really automation, but I have a Broadlink RM Pro that is controlled with an Alexa. I just recently set up my surround sound and it sounds great on all the tv inputs. I'm able to use Alexa voice commands to turn on my tv, surround sound, and a few other odds and ends things. The only issue with that is, I'd rather have the Broadlink RM Pro hidden away in a cabinet, like all of my other equipment. I also bought an Icespring IR Repeater, thinking I could just put the IR receiver next to the Broadlink RM Pro, then the signal will be sent through emitters that I can hide. That specific setup doesn't seem to work for some reason. I pointed my remote completely away from the tv and pointed it directly towards the IR receiver, so I can confirm the Icespring IR Repeater does work. I'm assuming there's another piece of equipment I'll need to get for the setup I want to work. I'm just not exactly sure what I'll need. Thanks for any help you guys can give! Also, side note... I'm thinking about getting a Harmony Hub (or one with a remote) in the future to be able to have full control over my tv when using voice commands with Alexa. Right now, I can't switch tv inputs with the equipment I have. When I'm able to do that, I'll have the CEC settings on my tv turn on a specific console when switched to that input (in theory haha). Maybe this will solve my problem? [link] [comments]
Broadlink : IR or RF automation, how do I know if it'll work ? Posted: 01 Aug 2020 02:07 PM PDT Hi everyone, I want to automate some devices possibly using a Broadlink RM mini or pro. How do I know what technology my devices use ? For example, https://fccid.io/T99058402300 Is this IR or RF ? And how do I know if it'll work using the Broadlink ? [link] [comments]
Automated cheese/charcuterie fridge Posted: 01 Aug 2020 08:53 AM PDT Hi, I'm looking for some advise. I'm setting up a cheese/charcuterie fridge at my moms house. This requires very strict temp/humidity controls, so my plan is to have a sensor to monitor the temp and humidity, and have that information used to turn on/off the plug for the fridge, and perhaps a humidifier inside the fridge. My mom has WiFi, but there wouldn't be any kind of hub system in place. I'd really like to be able to monitor the temp and humidity remotely, but most importantly, I'd need to be able to set some routines/rules to control when the fridge/humidifier comes on. My thoughts are to use a smart sensor and a couple of plugs, and have them communicate via IFTTT. Anything that would work well for this, and maybe let me do remote monitoring? [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Aug 2020 11:57 AM PDT Hello guys! As the flair says I'm new in HA. I just bought the Wyze home assistant started kid. I was wondering if you could please orient me in how I can have recognized the Wyze products inside home assistant? Any guide or tutorial? So I can start Automations with this products. Thanks! I would really appreciate it. [link] [comments]
any good open source/free dashboard for home automation ? Posted: 01 Aug 2020 11:33 AM PDT I use node-red for home automation. However, it's dashboard doesn't look that good on tablets (due to small form factor) and has basic widgets. I have some old 7" android tablets which I plan to use for mounting in different places in home. BTW most of smart devices I control are either MQTT or rest api, so any dashboard which support these are good. Any suggestions ? [link] [comments]
Connecting Sony X950H to smartthings? Can I? What all can I do with it? Posted: 01 Aug 2020 07:46 AM PDT I'd like to be able to use my phone to ask the TV to turn on. Open hulu/netflix/prime/etc... Play a show/movie... I can do it from the remote which is Google assistant. [link] [comments]

Infuriating Dimmer Switch - Help Needed! Posted: 01 Aug 2020 06:53 AM PDT I've already hooked up a FEIT dimmer from Costco up in my living room. All is well. Installed the second in the dining room, nothing new. Now I go and add a second to the box for the kitchen lights (next to the dining dimmer) and all hell broke loose. Neither switch works. I can't get a single response, can't factory reset, nothing. It's like it just died, like it couldn't handle sharing a neutral. So now what do I do? The neutral is hot. How can I get these to work again? Again, I'm certain these are wired correctly, I even took the living room dimmer out to make sure I wasn't crazy. So unless they miswired just this one circuit, that isn't the problem. [link] [comments]
Vantage Infusion rebooting too fast error Posted: 01 Aug 2020 06:21 AM PDT I have a Vantage Infusion IC-36 I controller, where the EasyTouch II keypads occasionally stop responding. When this happens the controller will display a "rebooting too fast" error, and pressing the exit button on the controller makes the controller work again. I consulted the installer, said he never heard of such an error, said he asked Vantage, and Vantage never heard of such an error. Google references a similar error, but the scenario is different and version is older than mine: http://dealer.vantagecontrols.com/downloads/Design%20Center%202.3.50%20Release%20Notes.pdf Any ideas? Posted: 01 Aug 2020 05:25 AM PDT I have several ZEN30 and iNovelli dimmers on a SmartThings Hub and some of them have color-changing WiFi bulbs. Is there a way to set the dimmer to a mode where it tells the bulb to turn off w/o cutting its power? (to be able to turn it on at the bulb too) [link] [comments] |
