    Soooo...smartthings just went down...

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 06:37 PM PDT

Smartthings is suffering a nationwide outage at the moment...just had to remotely login to the hub and do manual commands to shut off devices in my studio...

Are there hubs that don't depend on those pesky cloud servers to function? Is that how vera works?

Selling a house: how do you transfer automated devices?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 08:57 AM PDT

We will probably be moving to a new house in a few months. I'm struggling with how to transfer ownership of things that are built in to the house, like Lutron Caseta switches, Nest thermostats, hardwired Arlo cameras, etc. Obviously stuff like Alexas can be moved, but I really don't want to unwire all the switches and thermostats. What experiences have you had, and is there a web site that can give guidance?

    Delta Touch2o faucet

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 10:31 PM PDT

Does anybody have the delta touch faucet? I started getting two reds lights on mine and even went as far as buying the voice integrated one. Upon initial install, same two red lights.

Had first faucet for 6 months with no issues. Two red lights when turning on / off for about one month and completely went dead.

I did try changing the batteries . Not sure where I'm going wrong. Hoping somebody else has had this issue. Don't know where else to post this .

Is there a way to make floor fan smart?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 10:06 PM PDT

Hello, Before anything I know you can add a smart plug to be able to turn it on and off but I have a bigger plan. What I am trying to do is take my old floor fan that has a button for power and one for turning up the speed (you press it and it gets faster till its gets to the fastest speed then it restarts at the slowest). I was thinking of getting something like this and connecting one side of the wire to one channel on the device then the other side of the wire to the power button connection spot on the fan. Then doing the same with the other channel to the fan speed button. Things I need to know first.

    1. Will this work or will the wiring not allow it to? Looking and it I don't see why it wouldnt.

1.2.If something like that device wont work then what could I buy that would work, if there is one.

    1. If a device like this does work what one do you recommend that has siri/smart control/ifttt.(keep in mind I dont feel like programing something)

    Thank you.

    New home

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 06:15 PM PDT

I just bought a new house and want to improve my set up. I currently have 3 google minis, 1 google home display, 4 magic pro colored lights, 4 techin smart plugs, 1 smart life strip, 1 indoor wyze camera, 1 samsung smart tv and 1 hisense android os TV.

I want to make my system more secure, but would prefer to use voice commands locally and apps remotely to control things. Reccomendations for routers and smart outlets would be great. I'm also interested in setting up a security system. Thanks!

Any switches that can control sevaral things seperately but only having 1 switch on the wall?

Any switches that can control sevaral things seperately but only having 1 switch on the wall?

Like this one but smart? As I have over 100 things I need to control and buying a switch for each one is unrealistic

How To Integrate Lutron RadioRa2 With Control4

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 07:04 PM PDT

Why does alexa keep losing connection to emulated hue?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 02:18 PM PDT

Using Alexa to run scripts on Home Assistant with emulated hue. When i say the command, Alexa will sometimes say shes not able to connect, sometimes she just wont say anything at all, sometimes she just says "ok" like shes doing it, but then nothing actually happens in Home Assistant. The only way to solve this is restarting Home Assistant which will work for a little while and then eventually stop again.

I dont want to pay the $5 for Nabu Casa as the only thing i'd really use it for right now would be alexa. $5 a month to say 1 alexa command just isnt worth it. Any way to figure out where this goes wrong? I looked in the logs in HA and I dont see anything in there.

Going to start this off right, F**K WEMO!

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 05:43 PM PDT

I've had WEMO switches since they first came out and they've perpetually gotten worse; either connections, app issues, support, definitely support, and now Google Home integration/functionality. Did I mention support too? I'm currently eyeing up the Samsung Smart Things outlet switches and am wondering if anyone has had any positive or negative results with them. I'm looking at buying 12+ and want to make sure I'm not being blind sided by some known b/s issue. Can I delete a switch and it actually disappear from my account and not have Google tell me it can't reach it? I attach my outside Halloween decorations/Christmas lights to three of them in my garage and disconnect them the rest of the year. How's their customer service?

    Wyze Cam and Sensor Replacement

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 04:49 PM PDT

I'm currently using the Wyze Cam and a contact sensor to record footage in my garage if the garage door is open. However, Wyze products in general are not that great. The camera only records 12 seconds at a time with a cooling period in between recordings. The contact sensor has failed connecting to the Wyze hub for some reason and seems to be a common problem. Are there other products out there that I can use to replace the Wyze crap that'll operate how I'd like it to? ie; camera record footage if garage door open, otherwise no footage is recorded. Thanks.

    Automated Bali Dual Roller Shades

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 04:44 PM PDT

I recently bought a new house and am beginning the process of setting everything up. I'd love to have my blinds on an automated scheduled and voice controllable.

It seems this can be reliably achieved with Bali AutoView roller shades paired a smarthings hub. However I haven't come across anyone utilizing this process with the Bali dual roller shades essentially having two shades in one. Would it be as easy as just have to treat the front and back shade as two separate shades?

Not sure if I'm overthinking this as I'm a complete beginner, any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I bought an ML accelerator and was wondering what will be cool uses for that in an automated home

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 03:39 PM PDT

Do you guys have any examples of either completed machine learning projects or uses in your house, or any ideas of things that could be automated with the help of machine learning.

most machine learning algorithms tend to be able to distinguish between items that it can see i.e. image classification and object is detection. Other examples of uses would be pose estimation or key phrase detection. It would theoretically be possible to have your machine learning algorithm learn about your behavior and do stuff like open the garage door when you walk into the garage. But uses like this can be very well mis-intentioned as you don't necessarily always want to open the garage door when you enter the garage.

    Any ideas!?

    Switches

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 01:31 PM PDT

I am currently using Kasa TP-Link switches and am considering to switch to Z-wave. Partially because a friend warned me about wifi switches and hackers having a backdoor into my home network. The other reason is future-proofing.

Are my fears of hackers warranted? Any recommendations on switch brands?

Connecting Brilliant Home Control to Bali AutoView motorized shades via SmartThings

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 05:52 AM PDT

Does anyone have experience connecting the Brilliant Home Control System with Bali AutoView motorized shades via its SmartThings integration? The Brilliant website says in some places it can connect with SmartThings devices, but then in others places, it only mentions SmartThings compatible lights, switches, and locks. I'd love to know what the interface for the blinds looks like if anyone has it.

Alternately, if anyone has connected with Hunter Douglas's PowerView, that works for me too.

    NanoLeaf and Alexa...

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 07:25 AM PDT

I've had my NanoLeaf for about a year or so now and have had pretty regular issues controlling it through Alexa. For the past few months, I've actually had no problems, til yesterday. Instead of the device being unresponsive, it now says "Device doesn't support requested value." The Alexa skill hasn't updated (it never is). I already tried disabling the skill and re-connecting it with the same result. Any ideas? Thanks!

Simplest wiring for whole home audio in every room?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 01:19 PM PDT

I'm interested in being able to listen to music everywhere, but a lot of the existing solutions I find are over complicated and expensive.

Is it not possible to just stick an in-ceiling speaker in every room and run them all in series back to a beefy stereo receiver? I'd need some way to convert to mono, but I think most receivers have that option.

The only issue with this idea that I can think of is the impedance of the speakers adding up since they're in series.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Another 3 way smart switch question: 1 smart, 1 dumb or do both need to be smart?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 07:15 AM PDT

If I'm looking to replace my 3-way switches with GE Z-Wave Embrightens (example: https://www.amazon.com/GE-Enbrighten-SimpleWire-SmartThings-46201/dp/B07RRBT6W5/ref=sr_1_6? )...

Do both of the switches in the 3-way circuit need to be smart switches?

Or does only one of them need to be smart?

    Doorbell Recommendations?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 08:19 AM PDT

    Hi /r/homeautomation,

Currently looking for Doorbell recommendations. I've had a Nest doorbell for a year and a half and am looking to replace it due to constant buzzing from the Chime Box, as if it is getting constant power. I've been using it as just a camera; I want the indoor Chime for when I don't have my phone on me. I don't use Alexa or Google Home so I'm not interested in integration with that for alerting.

    Steps I've taken:

    • Replaced the transformer with one rated up to 24V
    • Replaced the Chime Box
    • Ensured the wires were correctly placed on the transformer, doorbell, and chimebox
    • Tested the doorbell without the capacitor on the chimebox (white puck)

At this point, I'm over it and looking to replace it. Is Ring still the best alternative, other than wiring up a Doorbird to POE?

    TIA!
