Posted: 11 Oct 2020 03:00 PM PDT This ecobee model is apparently not for retail sale so I don't know how they had one...but for $100 bucks I figured it was worth the gamble. On the packaging and from what I've seen online it's installed by professionals only. I have a feeling that I can probably just do it myself, but I won't get the full 5 year warranty. Is that right? Chamberlain myQ with Genie 2024 Garage Door Opener Success Posted: 11 Oct 2020 02:24 PM PDT I wanted to share with everyone EXACTLY how I got my garage door opener to connect with the Chamberlain myQ today as it was pretty frustrating (and the solution came accidentally). I had read another post in this channel (https://www.reddit.com/r/homeautomation/comments/e91jz5/chamberlain_myq_hub_with_genie_garage_door_opener/) that linked to the instructions on how to manually pair the myQ: https://support.chamberlaingroup.com/s/article/How-can-I-manually-set-up-the-MyQ-Garage-Wi-Fi-Hub-to-my-garage-door-opener-1484145690662 (for the Genie 2024, it is option 6). When I had completed these steps, the myQ was able to open and close my garage door from inside the setup using the physical button on the side of the device, but it would not connect back to the WiFi (solid green LED). I removed the device from my myQ app and set it up again, this time, when it asked me to press the program button on the garage, I didn't. I just let it run through its setup process. Eventually, it opened the garage and announced that it was set up. TL;DR To set up the Genie 2024: (1) I manually configured it: https://support.chamberlaingroup.com/s/article/How-can-I-manually-set-up-the-MyQ-Garage-Wi-Fi-Hub-to-my-garage-door-opener-1484145690662 (2) Reconnected it to my phone through the app (3) Ran the connection wizard without pushing any buttons on the garage door opener (4) Success! How to get Windows computer Idle Time into Automation Posted: 11 Oct 2020 07:42 PM PDT I want to get my computer idle time into my home automation software. Any ideas other than IOTLink? I tried IOTLink. It's very unreliable and inconsistent. Also, I use HASS but any MQTT/Rest API/Etc gadget is fine. EDIT: Maybe I wasnt clear enough. "Idle Time" as in how long the computer has not been used (keyboard/mouse). [link] [comments]

Such a fantastic lighting it is, but how to achieve it? And on HA? Posted: 11 Oct 2020 03:46 PM PDT I have seen this and amazed and thrilled. This sub has a video which is such a fantastic lighting I have ever seen. I am curious, for next year I want to do something like this, how can I achieve it? What all things to be known to doing it? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Planning a stupidly big system Posted: 11 Oct 2020 01:31 PM PDT We just bought a house, and the original builder really went overboard on lighting control zones. Including fans, there are nearly 120 control zones currently for about 5,000 square feet. I can't do everything at once, but I want to plan out a system that will scale up to full control. Most of the lights are currently incandescent or fluorescent strip, and it will be a long-term project to upgrade them. I have some experience with HomeAssistant, OpenHAB, ISY/Universal Devices, along with Insteon, Sonoff/Tasmota, but really it is a clean slate on controls. There is currently a SimpliSafe system, and we have Sonos speakers that will stay, and will be adding some UniFi cameras. I am biased against anything cloud related or linked— I want all control local. Any recommendations on system planning? [link] [comments]
Any way to salvage dead Enbrighten cafe lights Posted: 11 Oct 2020 11:13 AM PDT I bought a string of 18 Enbrighten Cafe lights in an auction for cheap and they do not work. I cut open the sealed power brick at the end to discover the internal electronics sealed in an epoxy. It smells like the transformer is bad. Anyway it has a black/white/red/green/blue cable going toward the lights, with an AC plug at the other end. I tried to connect a 24v dc source to the wires, but couldn't get anything from them. Any ideas to how to salvage these? I imagine they might be AC? Use them with another source? Thanks [link] [comments]
How to save on massive electricity bills? Posted: 11 Oct 2020 02:24 PM PDT Not sure if this is the right place to ask — All three adult children in my family have moved home due to COVID. Looks like we are all in this for the long haul as we work/study from home and take care of our ailing boomer parents. So that's five adults in the house. I'm trying to figure out an approach for how to reduce our massive household electricity bills. We live on a tropical island so it's always hot/muggy — that's a lot of ceiling fan use. We are careful to barely use the AC and turn off lights. We don't have the option to install solar panels, because it's a rental. Would any kind of home automation substantially help us in this case? Two Gang smart switch independent of each other recommendations? Posted: 11 Oct 2020 05:22 PM PDT Hi guys. I'm looking for a two gang smart switch, but they are independently controlled, I want one to control the outside light, and the other is living room light. Both switches live in the same housing in a 2 gang dumb switch. Looking for any recommendations. I do not currently have any z-wave stuff. [link] [comments]
Entry (Open) Sensor for swing gates Posted: 11 Oct 2020 10:33 AM PDT Okay, So I have an electric swing gate that already has a smart opener, but I'm looking for a way to use an entry sensor or like a reed switch to let me know when it's been opened, and that it's closed again. I know that i could probably get one of those chamberlain garage door setups with the smart open, and remote sensor but I've already got my gate integrated into my setup, and it works really well. I just want to be able to get a notification when someone opens the gate by other means than the smart home switch. I've got a few of these around my house, and they work pretty well... just looking for something a little more outdoor friendly. [link] [comments]

Smart switch for a fan/light with only a hot and neutral advice Posted: 11 Oct 2020 12:28 PM PDT I've been looking at Lutron Caseta switches, but know I'm ultimately limited with a 2 wire setup. I'm thinking I'll have to climb up into the attic and run a new cable(already 3 cables in the switch box, probably have to pull existing and run new 14/3 romex). In your guys opinions are there any better, more feasible options that would allow fan and light control with only 2 wires? [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Oct 2020 12:22 PM PDT Here was my original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/homeautomation/comments/j4za3n/frustrated_with_my_unreliable_switches/ As I stated in that post, I was getting frustrated with the poor reliability of my Leviton and iDevices switches. You guys gave me a couple suggestions to troubleshoot, but nothing worked. I finally gave up and decided to buy Lutron Caseta switches based on all of your recommendations. I just finished installing them, and I couldn't be happier! I purchased a starter kit that had the hub, 2 in-wall switches, and a pico remote. I also purchased 3 plug-in lamp switches. The most difficult part of the entire install was getting the wires to fit in the wall switch box. I was really surprised how quickly each device connected during setup (MUCH faster than any of my wifi devices). Thank you all for all of the help!! I have another quick question - I still have 2 iDevice switches I didn't replace because I couldn't find an outdoor switch from Lutron. Here is the iDevice outdoor switch I would like to replace (I have 2): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019IJNKCS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I assume I can't use the indoor plug-in lamp switches outside (the lamp switch doesn't have a ground prong anyway). Does Lutron have an outdoor switch like that, or does another company have something that will integrate into my Lutron hub. Thanks again! [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Oct 2020 11:44 AM PDT I just finished installing a couple of caseta switches in a 3 gang box in my garage. They have power and I can turn both switches on/off fine. When I try to pair these two switches, they just keep blinking and are never able to join the hub. I thought fine, it must be a range issue. Just to verify I brought one of my plug in dimmers from the living room into the garage and plugged it into an outlet in the same gang box as the 2 new switches. Works fine. These plugs are within range of the hub. So, with the plug in dimmer (the range extender one) working in the same location as these other new switches but the switches not pairing, what else could it be? Does the range extender not really work for pairing devices, but only relaying zwave information? I'm stumped. Will try moving the hub into the garage next. [link] [comments]
Bond hub alternative with 2.4ghz support? Posted: 11 Oct 2020 10:58 AM PDT Just discovered the bond hub (guess I've been living under a rock) and it's pretty genius but shame that I'm not able to integrate 3/4ths of the devices I wanted to do to lack of support for the 2.4ghz band. Has anyone else come out with something like a bond hub that can do this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Oct 2020 02:43 PM PDT Hello, apologies if this isn't the right sub reddit but I have no idea where to go. I've recently purchased a wifi endoscope from DEPSTECH to keep watch on a few things in tight spaces, but there's no windows app. Is there a way to manually connect to WiFi cameras without using their supported apps?
