Wyze Cam 2 Firmware version 4.9.5.36 with XNOR.ai person detection

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 06:43 PM PDT

Hopefully this will help anyone searching for this firmware version. This is the last version of Wyze cam with XNOR.ai person detection, and how to download it.

First I navigated to wayback machine here: https://web.archive.org/web/20200602074310/https://support.wyzecam.com/hc/en-us/articles/360024852172-Release-Notes

Then I navigated to Wyze Cam v2 Firmware and clicked on the heading for 4.9.5.36, which downloaded the old firmware file.

I would post this in the /r/Wyzecam subreddit, but it's ran by wyze employees which would remove it.

Tradfri Color Bulb: Green problem ?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 04:53 PM PDT

    Hi,

It looks like these bulbs can't really project any green ? I only get some yeloowish slightly green color but never a nice grass green for example. All the other colors seem fine (blue is so so).

Is that a normal flaw in those bulbs ?

    Multiple "clicks" with TradFri Remote

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 05:42 PM PDT

    Hi,

I'm learning how to use Node Red (without MQTT) in home assistant and it seems pretty cool.

I'm trying to setup an Ikea Color Bulb with an Ikea TradFri remote, for my daughter's bedromm (isn't that cute ? :p)

Anyway it ppears the remote can only sent 1002 to 5002 codes, so no long press for example. I don't know why.

So my idea is to let her circle through a certain choice of colors, lets say pink, red, blue, orange, green(ish) by testing the color when she presses the arrow (eg is it's white then pink, if it's pink, then orange, etc...).

Do I have to use a function for that ? Or what is the simple way ?

I currently use a switch with outputs to the different call services. It's probably not very elegant but bear in mind I started yesterday :p

Can I just cut old usb/ethernet/etc. cables to use them for diy projects?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 03:48 AM PDT

I want to make a DIY bed occupancy sensor following this guide.

It lists a 3-wire-cable on the partlist but I wonder if I can just cut open old cables I have in my household and use the small wires inside them.

I've searched on google for USB cables and seen ones with 3 small wires inside them but also some with 2 or 5 and it isn't consistent with the type of cable (so, eg not every USB mini cable has 2 wires inside). Is there a way to determine beforehand how many wires are inside a cable? Or perhaps I can just take 2 wires out of one cable and the third out of another?

I've seen that the small cables inside are called poles. But why? I though there were only 2 poles 🧲 and not 5

    MyQ Scheduling for Garage Doors

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 03:38 PM PDT

Does the MyQ scheduling still execute even if I'm not near my home? It's set to have all doors close at 7PM. This is the first time I've had this app and was wondering if the scheduling still will initiate without being connected to the WiFi the system is setup on. TIA.

Edit: Also to add, I have created users in the application giving access to two others. The people I added are always on the property, so would the scheduling go off if their phone is connected to the door?

Watching tv with finger on the volume. Solutions?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 03:22 PM PDT

On my Tv i literally have to manually adjust the volume from 20/100 to 70/100 depending on the scene. There has got to be a better solution.

    Tech:

Samsung (2018) no idea what model but its newish Samsung Sound-bar - Sound Mode: surround (there is a clear voice option)

Im willing to buy a better speaker system if that's necessary but i find it just absurd that I have to constantly monitor the volume.

Which is the current best Smart Home solution with support for external sensors?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 09:20 AM PDT

The only two options which I have heard of now is the Xiaomi Smart Home solution and Samsung SmartThings. I saw that Xiaomi gives you a central hub to which you could connect up to 30 different sensors based on your need. I guess SmartThings also have this functionality.

Is there any other product with this flexibility?

If not, is the Xiaomi smart home solution or SmartThings any good? I've heard of many bad reviews regarding the Xiaomi app and it's connectivity issues. What is your experience on this?

    Which one would you recommend?

I would greatly appreciate any inputs on this.

Can't figure out which american cable colors translate into which EU cable colors

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 09:37 AM PDT

I'm replicating this guide for a bed occupany sensor but the guys' wiring colors confuse me.

He uses a black, red and white cable in one picture but a blue, red and white one in the other to extend the first 3 cables. Can I assume that black is just replaced by blue?

Also, which color is which when you use a EU cable like this?

I've tried to look it up on a multi-national cable color chart but the combination blue + yellow + brown isn't even listed there so I wonder which color of those american cables is which color of the EU cables.

    Does my project make sense?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 01:53 PM PDT

    Hi everybody,

I would like to present here my rough thoughts about my automation project and I am very curious what you think.

Its a new house with approx. 150 square metres living space. Ventilation will be done with a Zehnder Aircomf system with heat recovery. Floor heating will be realized with an air heat pump. The Building will also have external blinds.

General considerations: I wanted an overall relatively cheap system, which should not necessarily be wired. Also, I did not want to use a certain standard like KNX because of the time and costs involved. I read the starter guide on reddit and the things listed there are pretty much things I would like to do as well.

Important for me: - automated light control with geofencing - automated lock control with arrival detection and absence detection - general absence detection to shut lights and turn on the alarm - door bell with video and internet connection - a stable and reliable alarm system - automated and whether and sun dependent control of heating and blinds - some other little things like: vacuum cleaner starts with absence, sonos music starts in the morning when somebod enters the bathroom and so on and so forth

    Set Up:

    a) Tado system including Hub for heating control b) Alexa as a voice control system c) Philips Hue lamps including bridge as well as motion sensors and light switches for light control d) Nuki incl. Bridge as door lock e) Ring for the telephone system, ring window and door sensors, ring alarm system and outdoor cameras f) Somfy motors in the blinds including Tahoma Bridge, additional sun or light sensors g) Sonos for music / entertainment system h) Xiaomi Vacuum Cleaner i) Zehnder Air Ventilation Control

I wanted to do the cross automation myself with Homey or Homee, but I'm currently leaning towards the Home Assistant/HASS system on a Raspberry, since it seems to be a cheaper and better solution.

My questions: - Does the constellation make sense or is the number of hubs and probably protocolls used in this set up problematic? - Any recommendation on optimization?

    Thanks for your help!

Can I attach Eufy Doorbell to old vivint wires?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 01:27 PM PDT

We have a defunct vivint system in the house we bought. We were using the doorbell and it's camera, but it gave up the ghost. I am thinking of replacing it with a Eufy system. I'm getting the battery version of the doorbell, and pulling out the vivint control panel from the house. Two wires go to doorbell now. Can I use those to be the power for the Eufy Doorbell? (So the battery stays topped up) If so, would removing the control panel cut power to the doorbell wires?

Your help is appreciated in advance.

ETA: just to clarify, I know the Eufy won't work with the vivint control panel. I'm not looking for integration, just power supply.

    Beginning at the beginning

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 01:16 PM PDT

I would like to know, please, what is on offer for these two items.

I know next to nothing about this stuff and would like not to get dragged into buying something just because Nest have a big marketing budget.

Happy to my own research and happy also to do a bit of diy/ soldering if necessary. No coding though please.

    - Thermostat that is programmable from a phone.

    - Video doorbell that connects to phone

    Thankyou

    Interconnected smart lock?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 01:13 AM PDT

I am moving into a new house, and it has an interconnected lock on the front door, which I never even knew was a thing. Super cool. In short, from the inside you don't have to unlock the deadbolt explicitly, you just turn the knob and the deadbolt is automatically unlocked.

I really like the interconnected feature, but I also wanted to replace the deadbolt with a smart lock. But... I'm not sure if there is such a thing as an interconnected smart lock. Any ideas?

How do smart devices use the cloud

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 01:05 PM PDT

    Hey guys

I'm trying to work on a project using Arduinos as my smart devices and I'm trying to figure out how to create the cloud or databases for it.

I can connect them to my wifi but how do like proper smart apps that are out there work the likes of registering on the app then adding a device to your account and then you can control it from anywhere?

How is that being controlled is that on a one database or cloud that the company has or is it on a database that gets created when you register?

    LED Module or Smart Switch

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 09:19 AM PDT

I have LED under counter lights in the kitchen. They are wired via 110v AC/DC converter -> Manual/In-line dimmer -> LED strip. There are two sets of cabinet lights that are controlled via one switch (two independent DC level dimmers).

They are basic two-wire white LEDs. In the effort of "future-proofing" I may swap them out for addressable LEDs so I can create scenes at night, movie scene for instance that just lights the far ends for a little illumination in the kitchen but keeps the rest dim/off. Haven't fully traversed that road yet for what scenes I want. That was the first one that came to mind.

I'm leaning towards Inovelli products at the moment and wondering what the recommendation is for automating the switch or installing a module at the 110/AC-DC hookup?

I'm thinking modules would give me the most functionality but I'd like to avoid leaving the switch "on" all the time because invariably the kids or wife will be "helpful" and turn it off. Maybe a less expensive smart switch coupled with LED module control??

edit: Forgot to mention, all will be controlled by or tied to Home Assistant.

    Honeywell (Jasco) Z-wave Switch issue

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 12:31 PM PDT

I've fitted my whole house with Honeywell Z-wave smart switches with Smartthings. Setup was mostly hassle free, but I'm having trouble with two switches (out of ~40) in the home. They allowed me to set up initially, but now don't respond to the turning on the switch on the wall. However, they allow me to turn on via app or Alexa. I can't imagine it's an error with the physical switch since I had to hit the On switch to program it in the first place, but now I can't even delete the device in Smartthings app since the "exclusions" step to delete requires me to hit the On switch to delete it. Any tips? Couldn't find answer in search. Thanks in advance.

Beginner question: Can I take over the existing DMP branded system installed in my new home?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 12:29 PM PDT

I'm totally new to all this. I've got a raspberry pi and ordered a HUSBZB-1 dongle.

I've got door and motion sensors installed from the previous owner.

They're DMP branded, one of the door sensors is a DMP 1102 Wireless Transmitter.

I'd love to know if I can reuse these or not.

    Wireless Sim Card Security Camera

    Posted: 03 Oct 2020 09:12 AM PDT

I'm considering buying this security camera:

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000354614762.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.51b04abcaGEyrb&s=p&ad_pvid=202010030905455130159661420920002761064_1&algo_pvid=c5c06105-0cb3-4492-961d-5f1b2771453f&algo_expid=c5c06105-0cb3-4492-961d-5f1b2771453f-4&btsid=0b0a01f816017411454082319e182b&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_

The place where I want to install it doesnt have WiFi, hence why I need it to be a sim card camera. Are these able to take sims cards from any country/network? My concern is that I'd buy it and then I wouldnt be able to get the sim card to work in it. Or would they be 'universal'? Also is there anything else I'd need to consider before buying it? The network signal is strong where I want to put it so that wont be an issue!
