Apps everywhere, how to glue this all together Posted: 19 Dec 2020 01:08 PM PST Hi I'm experimenting a bit with automation and have the following setup each under it's own app; 1) ADAX Wifi heaters 2) eWeLink Sonoff temperature probe TH16 (just to monitor the immersion tank temp) 3) SmartLife - HBN WiFi Smart Wall Timer Switch which turns the hot water immersion on/off (Only switch I could find that supported 13amps) 4) WarmUp smart underfloor heating I would like to try and reduce the number of apps and also if it's possible to be standalone should the internet drop, which it did last week and I had no heating and no hot water lol Thanks in advance [link] [comments]
I will try to migrate my 50+ zigbee devices from xiaomi to home assistant and I have a question. Posted: 19 Dec 2020 11:42 AM PST Tried to study the zigbee protocol before asking but I still feel like a complete noob. Some parts of the house are far from the main zigbee network, and it seems a bit tedious to install numerous router in between. [link] [comments]
Best roomba/robovac model for carpet + dog hair Posted: 19 Dec 2020 07:10 PM PST I tried searching for related posts but couldn't find recent posts that compare the current latest models. Would love this group's input :) I live in a two story house and have a Golden Retriever who, obviously sheds a lot! Most of our house is carpeted. I simply can't keep up with the regular vacuum cleaning anymore! Any suggestions on - what's the best robovac for a dog hair + carpet combination? Also, suggestions on how to get one at a cheaper price? The robovacs are so expensive! Thanks a million in advance for your replies!! :) [link] [comments]
Best Low Cost Tunable White Circadian Lighting? Posted: 19 Dec 2020 12:31 PM PST TL;DR May I simply run Home Assistant with the Kasa KL130, find a popular Circadian Rhythm program for it, and be running from scratch in a few hours--or am I simply asking too much for using cheap smart bulbs? ------------------------------------------------ It appears Philips Hue is the clear leader as it pairs very well with Home Assistant, is supported by the MFG, and doesn't require internet access for daily operations--in case of server issues or lack of later support. My budget & free time isn't there though (I freelance and strongly desire to pay my bills)--so I have been considered the KL130 from Kasa or Wyze bulbs to light my home office. What I'd like to do is simply have the bulbs follow Circadian rhythm for lighting with adjustable brightness and if I need to work late be able to bump the color temperature up. The KL130 fails out of the box with the Kasa App as I can't adjust brightness with their "Auto Whiteness" feature and Wyze has no such feature but are cheap tunable white bulbs. I'm reading Kasa might pair with Home Assistant but I lack experience and do not want a very intensive project--so as per the TL;DR I'm trying to see if this is doable and if so how complex. Is there any way to turn off and disable all scheduling in Ecobee? Posted: 19 Dec 2020 05:59 PM PST I've been struggling for months ever since we moved into our new home to get the thermostat to cooperate and I've decided I absolutely hate Ecobee. "Comfort settings" are worse than useless and I can find any way of turning off the "schedule" feature which continually derails my programming and automations for no apparent reason. I'm near the point of ripping the damned thing out of the wall and finding a replacement. Does anyone have any clue how to get Ecobee to do what I ask of it and absolutely nothing else? Smart switch without neutral wire? Posted: 19 Dec 2020 10:35 AM PST We have hue bulbs and a hue hub, a bunch of Lutron switches and some Kasa outlets around the house. One of the switches for the patio bulb now controls the Christmas lights but I'd like to add a smart switch there. Turns out there's no Neutral wire. I had picked up the Kasa HS200 and will have to return it. I cannot add a neutral line as this is an old condo in a co-op where the HOA is a nightmare to deal with for such electrical work. What would be a simple on off switch to add into this setup without adding another hub or app? Thanks for your help! [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 Dec 2020 10:30 AM PST I had this working perfectly, unfortunately my receiver crapped out and I had to replace the unit. I have the Samsung TV, Yamaha Reciever and the Fire stick all hooked up in Harmony and I have skill downloaded and for some reason Alexa just wont turn on the activity. She will say OK as if she understands the command but it just wont turn on. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
Hunter Dempsey Fan with Lutron Caseta? Posted: 19 Dec 2020 04:15 PM PST I recently got a Hunter Depsey fan and want to control it with Lutron Caseta. It cannot be directly done. Has anyone installed one? I assume that if the RF module and controller is removed and bypassed could use 2 switches (1 for fan another for light) to control it, since the module takes in line and neutral and has an output wire for the fan and another for the light. Thoughts? [link] [comments]
Caseta On/Off vs. Dimmer vs. Other Posted: 19 Dec 2020 04:56 PM PST I'm looking at the Lutron Caseta on/off switches for a couple places in the house that a dimmer would not be appropriate. But why are they almost the same price as the dimmer switches? Baring using the Lutron, what are some other good non-wifi single poll switches that are cheaper? The other option is to go with the Kasa Smart Switch for $14 a piece but they are WiFi and I'm worried about hitting the limit of WiFi devices (its a big 'new' house). [link] [comments]
suggestions for: no big box/brand locally functional (no *net) hub to replace sThings. Posted: 19 Dec 2020 03:55 PM PST it can have its own WiFi router, BT, ZigBee, zwave functionality, but whatever I use I don't want to have to hook it up to the internet to use it at home. I currently have several hundred of these devices combined with Harmony, Philips and Samsung and would love to NOT have to replace them, but want to take it offline. would love to have a voice replacement for g00gle and @mazon smart speakers. would love to NOT spend a ton on an replacement hub, but that seems to be the catch all for these elements, plugs, lights, switches, voice, etc. thanks for suggestions. New Home Setup (Unifi Network) Hubitat or SmartThings? Posted: 19 Dec 2020 03:37 PM PST So just purchased a new home and looking to fully automate most things because I spend very little time at the property. Things I'm looking to do: -Lights -Locks -Sonos System -HVAC -Security (Unifi Protect) The house is approximately 2500sqft including the basement and 3 floors total. Each floor will have one NanoHD AP with all TVs and Computers hard wired to a Unifi switch. Between the 3 APs I think ill have no issues running all the smart devices off wifi but let me know (plaster walls). LIGHTS: I really wanted to add some brilliant switchs but as far as I am currently aware there are no neutral wires even in the newer finished portions of the home. So I was thinking of caseta? Catch is I still think I want color changing White lights so probably just going to start with all smart lights at first. LOCKS: I'm thinking just August? SPEAKERS: Going to have sonos speakers in about every room and plan on just using the sonos app and alexa to control them. Nothing troubling here. HVAC: Ecobee is currently in the house and plan on to use them anyhow. SECURITY: While Unifi Protect is closed off for the most part I still plan on going with it so I can can manage it all from the UDM-pro easily enough. CONCERN: What do I use to manage them all? I suppose I can use Alexa but the all seems limited. I've heard people say good things about smartthings and Hubitat. Is smartthings just cloud based? On the hubitat side of things it seems like I could plug it into one of the switches by the TVs and it can see all my devices on WiFi. I'm leaning towards hubitat but you all know more than me in the smart home department so I'm asking for your thoughts. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Arlo Camera - Doorbell Recommendation Posted: 19 Dec 2020 01:59 PM PST Have an Arlo camera that shows us anything at the front door/steps. Our front door is setup in a way that we don't have any area to put a doorbell cam which is why we got the camera. We're shopping for a new doorbell as ours broke and it was installed on the 90 degree wall to the right of the door when facing it. Are there any doorbells or other options that will work with the Arlo camera so when someone presses it, it notifies and immediately shows the camera view? Checked the Arlo website but didn't find anything. [link] [comments]
Sonoff th16 turns off when I connect sensor Posted: 19 Dec 2020 08:54 AM PST I'm new to home automation and I just managed to install a Sonoff th16 smart switch and got it to work via the eWeLink app on my phone. However, it only works without the temperature/humidity sensor. As soon as I connect the sensor the blue status LED on the th16 is turned off and the app can't find the device anymore. Unplugging the sensor restores the blue light. What is happening here? A faulty sensor? [link] [comments]

Is there such a thing as wired smart switched/bulb devices that talk via ethernet over power ? Posted: 19 Dec 2020 03:09 AM PST I cant find any and it seems something that would be quite easy to implememt and allow for greater reach without having to worry about dead spots etc and they cold all act as access points/routers/coordinators for devices within range [link] [comments]
Converting rgb led strip so that it can be controlled by Alexa/google Posted: 19 Dec 2020 02:48 AM PST Hi all, I currently have installed a rgb led strip which is controlled by a basic small remote. I feel I saw a post here which said there was some device which could be used to link directly to the remote and allow me to control the lights through Alexa or google. I tried finding the post but could not. I'd love to know if that device exists and if not what my simplest option is to be able to use Alexa/google voice rather than the provided remote. Thanks!
