"smart compatible" electric blanket Posted: 18 Jan 2021 07:07 PM PST costco has a beauty rest mattress pad that is smart plug compatible. I've been trying to find one for a while. this has an electronic controller, but when it loses power (from smart plug outlet turning off) , it remembers its last settings, and turns on automatically. thought i would share. Why isn’t the Honeywell Lyric Controller more popular? Posted: 18 Jan 2021 07:15 PM PST It seems to have wide compatibility with zwave devices as well as HomeKit support in addition to allowing for security monitoring yet I never see it mentioned here. [link] [comments]

Central heating water pump controller help Posted: 18 Jan 2021 10:28 PM PST Heya, I have a wood fueled central heater and I was wondering if anyone knows of a controller which will start the recirculating pump when the water reaches a specific threshold (60C water temperature) and to stop it when the water reaches a different threshold (let's say 90C water temperature) but not to stop it if it goes above the 90C just if it starts dropping. Posted: 18 Jan 2021 08:33 PM PST I'm new to home automation and so far have Lutron Caseta dimmer switches with HomeKit (and HomePod minis). Next I want curtain openers, especially for the large, wide, tall, heavy single panel curtain in my living room on a u-rail. Can anybody recommend a motor that can handle the size and weight of this drape? I will also be adding smart blinds in the future but I really want to automate this drape. [link] [comments]

I got a new modem/router setup, and I have had nothing but issues Posted: 18 Jan 2021 07:12 PM PST So as the title suggests; I upgraded my internet today and everything re-connected perfectly at first, or so I thought. I first noticed I was unable to cast video to any of my devices. I started to remove those devices from my home as troubleshooting, and then I wasn't able to add them back! So I completely deleted my home, and started from scratch. I've reset every device as well as my router in hopes that I would be able to start anew, but to no avail. It seems like Google is picking and choosing what devices it'll allow me to add to my Home, and once they're added, I get an error that tells me that it is not on the same network even though that everything is on the same 5ghz network. Any help with this would be very beneficial. TIA [link] [comments]

Auto close garage door after some time Posted: 18 Jan 2021 04:50 PM PST I have a MyQ garage door controller. The app itself has a 1 minute notification which means that if the garage door is still open after a minute it will send a notification on my phone. I am trying to configure it so that it will keep notifying me every 5 mins. I have connected the MyQ app to the Simple Commands app which is able to get the status of the garage door and feed it to Alexa. basically to constantly ping the MyQ device? Or is there a way to write a script or something to constantly get the status from MyQ and push it to my phone via IFTTT or something? [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jan 2021 03:05 PM PST I've just bought a new house, and by new it was built in 1930 and has never been renovated since. I need to put all new electrics, floorboards, gas etc. So, im a nerd at heart and love my home tech, currently have few smart bulbs, smart heating, and Google hubs. I have to build everything from the ground up, and I would like to add as much smart tech as possible. Give me a list of everything you would add if you could. [link] [comments]
Confused by Z-Wave verse Vera - door locks (remotelocks.com) Posted: 18 Jan 2021 02:55 PM PST I'm trying to get a bunch of door locks that I can use with Remotelock.com for different properties I manage. I am still utterly confused what type of equipment I need. It appears they work both on Z-Wave and Wifi - but do I just need a lock that has Z-wave installed (is it software that is installed on the lock or is it hardware?) or do I also need Vera hardware to work with it? Trying to find the best cost effective solution that allows me to operate many properties. In general I'm also pretty confused on the whole Z-Wave/Vera aspect - if someone could provide a EL5 how the lock/Zwave/Vera/3rd party remotelock software all interact that would be extremely appreciated. thanks [link] [comments]
IP6x controls (12V): which ecosystem? Posted: 18 Jan 2021 01:23 PM PST I am planning out an outdoor landscape lighting project. What are some recommended ecosystems (Hub and radio protocol) to achieve this? Depending on what I can find, I would use anything including on-off relays, dimmers, RGBW LEDs. The hard requirements are: - 12V for anything (relays, LEDs, ...) installed away from the house in the landscaping - 12V or line voltage OK for anything I install at box next to house Budget: $100-300 for power supply, relays, and hubs. <$50 per smart low voltage bulb. I want to use regular architectural LED fixtures for the most part, so Hue is out. [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jan 2021 01:46 AM PST I'm building a house right now and I'm really not good with home automation stuff. I've tried to read through posts on here and struggle to understand them. So, sorry if this is redundant or elementary! Right now, I use an echo show in my apartment to control plug in lights. We want to be able to control all the ceiling lights in our future kitchen, dining, and living rooms by smart switches. We want them to be able to be turned on and off and dimmed by the physical switch, we just want to be able to tell Alexa to shut them off. Does anyone have any recommendations for what switches would be best? Our wiring is already done, I was told we do have neutral wires. [link] [comments]
Recommendations for RGB strip/string lights that use bluetooth for music and does NOT have a mic? Posted: 18 Jan 2021 10:14 PM PST I've looked at a ton of smart lighting systems and each one seems to use a microphone for music. I'm incredibly tired with my current lights picking up the conversation and ruining the beat sync. They also only run at full brightness for music mode, which is really annoying at night. Do y'all know of any systems that use bluetooth instead of a mic? [link] [comments]

Can I use a Hive thermostat with a different hub? Posted: 18 Jan 2021 11:17 AM PST I recently bought a house with a Hive thermostat installed. The previous owner was kind enough to leave the hive hub, but apparently they are perma-locked to the purchasing account and I can't use it. I was considering getting my own Hive hub, but have read some pretty bad reviews online, and would potentially prefer using a different hub. I was wondering if it's possible to connect the Hive thermostat to different smart devices, or am I locked in to that company? [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jan 2021 09:08 AM PST Which is the preferred wireless protocol at this point? I am looking to setup a smart home with controlled locks lights and cameras. Ideally one hub would be used with a common protocol. Any help is welcomed. [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jan 2021 03:28 PM PST I am in the android ecosystem with a currently functioning google home mini. I plan to get the Samsung smart things hub, with the aim to slowly build up my home automation journey. If i get a smart lighting system compatible with the Samsung hub, my understanding is the hub is compatible with google, ergo voice commands to my google home should be able to control the lighting. Am i understanding this clearly? [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jan 2021 10:47 AM PST Any Shelly experts here? I've used Shelly1 to build a rudimentary pool automation controller. I was able to control 12vDC, 110vAC and 230vAC devices, powering the Shelly1 with a 110vAC circuit with neutral wire. Now I understand that you can use 12vDC to power the Shelly1. But how does that work when 12vDC doesn't have a neutral wire? Note, this is the Shelly1 and not the Shelly1L. [link] [comments]
Living room refresh/smart home design suggestions and help Posted: 18 Jan 2021 09:24 AM PST I am beginning a living room remodel and with it adding new lighting options. I will be adding a ceiling fan, recessed LED lights and LED pendants. Currently I have 2 switches in my wall, 1 for porch lights and 1 for overhead lighting in my living room. I'm thinking about getting inovelli switches for everything with dumb lights and set them up in home assistant. Would it make sense to remove a switch and replace a dumb light on any of these circuits with a smart bulb and use HA with the inovelli switches to cut down on the number of switches, or am I thinking too hard about this. Way to voice control android apps or Denon Receiver? Posted: 18 Jan 2021 09:12 AM PST I'm trying to figure out a way to control sound modes with my voice on my Denon receiver. Switching between Dolby Digital and all channel surround, and center spread settings. I can change these settings with the Android app or the web gui. Any idea how I can integrate with with my Google Nest Mini's for voice control? I think I could use tasker to script changing the settings in the app. Can I link that task with the Google Mini/Home somehow? Maybe a dedicated android device or emulator on a pc running 24/7 would be help? [link] [comments]
Fish Tank / Aquarium Monitoring Ideas? Posted: 18 Jan 2021 07:10 AM PST I just broke down and am re-setting up an aquarium and was thinking about what may be trackable with smart devices. I dont want it to necessarily control the tank (at least not yet) but wondering what I could monitor and alert on. I have SmartThings and that is tied into Home Assistant. There doesnt appear to be any smartthings compatible setups, so my mind went to ESPHome, but open to other options. I was looking at the ESP Home components, but i just dont know what all the model numbers actually do so its hard to see what is possible. I would love to be able to track the following
What else? Any thoughts on what is possible? [link] [comments]
Security camera at a remote cabin with terrible connection? Posted: 18 Jan 2021 08:22 AM PST Hello guys! We just got a router at our cabin, with terrible network (speedtest showed 3mbps down and 0,5mbps up). But I want to install a camera up there. Not for thieves and stuff, but just to look at how the weather is, if it's snow etc. Are there any cameras like that? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
