How to turn on/off a smart bulb without phone, when it's off due to the schedule?

    Posted: 14 Apr 2021 10:07 PM PDT

I have a Wipro smart bulb. When it was off as per the schedule, I think I was able to turn it on by toggling the physical switch twice. But then how to turn it off, without the Mobile phone (without turning off the physical switch)? If I toggle the physical switch thrice, it starts blinking, which is the setup mode.

Shelly dimmer 2, flashing at seemingly random intervals?

    Posted: 14 Apr 2021 10:41 PM PDT

Hi! I own a couple of shelly dimmer 2's. When I set them up everything seemed fine, but sometimes they flash/blink randomly. It's a very quick flash/blink. This is very frustrating because according to the logging they don't go down, they don't have issues, their internet connection is fine. I've set debounce to the highest setting (150) but even that doesn't make a change.

It happens to all 3 of the shelly's, so it can't be the one. Can anyone provide me some pointers?

Has anyone had any experience with the Kogan smart blind driver?

    Posted: 14 Apr 2021 10:40 PM PDT

I can't get the app to link with my blind driver. Wifi is 2.4Ghz. Did everything by the book. Even got Kogan to send me a replacement unit but the second one does the same thing. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Just purchased first house. Looking to make a lot of things automated and would like them all to be on the same system. Any suggestions are appreciated. Also would love to know where to start!

    Posted: 14 Apr 2021 08:40 PM PDT

So I am looking to put in two or three security cameras, a smart door bell, and a smart key pad. I would love for all at least all of these to be on the same System (ex: nest, arlo, etc). I would also love to get my lighting in the house in a similar system or the same. If anyone has any suggestion of where to start in terms of all of this.

I am not trying to buy the highest of the high end. I would love high quality for a good price.

    Thanks!

Shocked a smart bulb, now its stuck on high brightness

    Posted: 14 Apr 2021 10:52 AM PDT

I walked past a fixture that had a smart bulb in it (novostella if it matters) and shocked myself on it and it turned the bulb on. Now I can't turn it off wirelessly. It seems like it is stuck on max brightness. Any changes I make to it, it receives and executes on top of the max bright white light. So if I change it to purple it becomes a very bright purply-white. If I turn on a strobe setting I can see it strobing but on top of the bright white.

I've removed it and re-added it. That didn't fix it. There are no firmware updates for it available. Did I maybe short something and now it's like this for good? I can easily replace it, I just don't like to waste things so if I can fix it somehow I'd rather do that.

Any idea? Kind of a weird problem to have.

NVR/ONVIF/RTSP for IMOU Bullet 2E (and possibly other compatible IMOU cameras)

    Posted: 14 Apr 2021 05:19 AM PDT

    Howdies,

I recently got it and despite the mention of ONVIF and NVR functions, the product page was very silent about the support for the RTSP. So after some googling I have included a setup that should work for this (and probably other IMOU cameras). Hope these will help you if you are not interested in selling your soul (and images) to IMOU Cloud.

If you are looking for an outdoor IP camera with IP67, great night colours and PoE - then check out the review and NVR instructions

    https://notenoughtech.com/review/imou-bullet-2e/

Now I can try the NodeRED integration and try to recognise some faces :) Wish me luck

    Happy automating guys

Do I really need a RPI or device to create a dashboard?

    Posted: 14 Apr 2021 09:06 PM PDT

Ok I'm new to this. I want to set up a dashboard to control switches and see power usage. Do I really need a RPI and tablet for this, or can this be done with just a tablet? Basically I want to create a nicer interface than Google home.

Looking for a way to pump water up.

    Posted: 14 Apr 2021 10:57 AM PDT

I have a garage with a rain barrel in front and raspberry plants in the back with direct sun in the summer.
Last year it was a lot of work to water them, as they will need water like crazy.
I am planning to use a timed socket to power a pump which takes water from the rainbarrel and feeds it to the plants.
I had a aquarium pump laying around but that is not going to be able to it, because the water needs to raise 2.5 meters to the back of the garage.
Heres a little drawing to clear things up: https://imgur.com/a/TyKlLNM.
Which type of pump would be ideal to use in this situation?
I am looking for a cheap solution ofc, and a 12v pump would be preferred but a pump on mains (230V) will also be good.

Multiple alexa custom actions per routine and double confirmation.

    Posted: 14 Apr 2021 07:32 PM PDT

Hello, I have a goodnight routine in Alexa which seems to be able to only have one custom phrase. For me it WAS to Ask Alexa to report the weather for tomorrow since the weather action only gives the currentish weather. However, now I have it set to arm the security system. I tried to say "arm the security system and report the weather for tomorrow" but it didn't work. Is there any way to make it happen?

Also, vivant makes you call a custom skill. So if you say arm the security system Alexa like freaks out and basically responds that she is asking vivant to do it AND then she reports that she does it. It overlaps and sounds weird. But if you say "ask vivant to.." it doesn't do the double. But when I write "ask vivant" in the custom action it DOES do the double as if I have failed to do the ask vivant command, if that makes sense.

Linking two light switches on separate circuits

    Posted: 14 Apr 2021 06:40 PM PDT

I think this is much simpler than everything else on here, I'm just not sure what to search for.

I have two light switches in my basement, at opposite ends of the room that control separate circuits. Rather than rewiring them I was hoping to somehow pair light switches that I can switch either manually and independently and turn both circuits on/off.

What should I be looking for? Any recommendations?

I have google nest wifi and a couple of single Wemo and Feit switches configured currently.

    Thanks!

    Retrofit blinds?

    Posted: 14 Apr 2021 06:25 PM PDT

    Hi,

I am looking to retrofit the blinds of my apartment and have been looking into several options. The thing is I have horizontal blinds and they are quite heavy. The came with the apartment, so changing them completely is not really an option.

I was thinking about either SOMA or one of the chinese Tuya variants, since I could integrate both of them nicely with my node-red/openhab setup here.
However, my blinds are kind of large and heavy (230x170cm), but whats worse is they do have a locking mechanism, with requires you to pull up the blind a few centimeters and then releasing the cord in order for them to go down. I couldn't find any description from any manufacturer (at least not more precise than "compatible with any shade or blind" if this is supported. All youtube reviews I could find are with blinds that look like they are 1/5 of the weight of my blinds...

Any suggestions for my specific case?

    Help smartify drywall relais

    Posted: 14 Apr 2021 02:42 AM PDT

    Hi yall,

I am getting into smart home and home automation and starting off easy I wanted to go with lighting first.

Being no fan of proprietary systems (hue, tuya...) I swiftly set up a pie with HAS-IO and added a ConbeeII and added some IKEA smart bulbs. This seemed to be the smartest way since I needed new LED bulbs for the entire apartment anyway.

All working fine I can now conrtoll all my lights from mobile smart dimmers as well as the phone or PC. Only problem left are my wall switches.

I was on the checkout tab with 13 Shelly's when the lucky thought struck to just double check the switches to ensure compatibility. Lo and behold, with everything being drywall in this flat, they went for "drywall relais switches" or what these are even called. The wiring seems to terminate at these 12V relais in the junction box.

I cannot teach my family, or even myself for that matter, to not use the mounted wall switches anymore and only rely on the mobile dimmmers/switches. And to be true, it would be a huge waste too.

So to phrase the main question of this post: How can I integrate this weird type of switch into my smart home system?

I cannot find any of this online and I don't even want to get startet getting help from my landlord because they surely wouldn't be a fan of the whole ordeal. All I find are Shelly type switches that go behind the actual switch or some €200+ modules that have no real documentation and seem unreasonable in general.

To top it all of, as eluded above, this is all supposed to happen in a rented flat so it has to be reversible. So no bigger wholes in wall or rip it all out so lotions sadly.

Homeautomation community can you help me pretty please?

    P. S. Germany/EU so 230V mains power if that is of any importance

Control Hunter Douglas Shades with in wall switch

    Posted: 14 Apr 2021 04:32 PM PDT

    Hello r/homeautomation!

I have a question about hunter Douglas. I just ordered their power view shades and was wondering if there was anything I could buy that would let me manually control the shades via an in wall switch. An example of this is with Lutron lights and how you can place the pico remotes on walls so they act like real switches so you can have like a 4 way setup. Is there anything that would work the same but with hunter Douglas power view shades? Would there be a way to connect the Lutron shades remote to hunter Douglas so that the remote would control the shades (homeassistant)?

    Thanks - Iron

    First timer: OSRAM Smart+ lightbulb

    Posted: 14 Apr 2021 12:39 PM PDT

    Hello everyone,

I just bought my very first smart light bulb, chose the OSRAM Smart+ because I read it works without a hub and the price seemed reasonable.
I have read the little booklet, downloaded 3 apps from the manufacturer (also tried with HomeKit) and no luck discovering the device, I am beginning to think that a hub is actually needed since no matter what I do, I cannot find the device via bluetooth.

Has anyone had any luck with this set up or am I wrong in thinking no hub is needed?

    Geofencing for very short distances?

    Posted: 14 Apr 2021 03:31 PM PDT

Imagine a bedroom door lock that auto-unlocks when your phone is 1 meter away from it. Basically geofencing, but on a much shorter distance than the typical distance for a front door lock (maybe 10 meters away). Is there such thing as a lock that can detect that short of a distance? Ideally if the door is locked and I am inside of the room it would stay locked, though this is optional - I just need to keep my phone more than 1 meter away from the door for it to stay locked.

    GE SmartHQ Air conditioning

    Posted: 14 Apr 2021 03:11 PM PDT

I just got a new GE window A/C (Model AKLK14AA) that uses their SmartHQ app.

This allows basic control via the smartphone app (On/Off, Mode, Temp).

Is there any sort of API access to this? I'd like to use rules to drive it - either that or at least get a remote thermostat to control it. It's in a large converted attic so the temperature gradient is real (Only one window, which my desk isn't near).

What I'd really like is to be able to control it based on logic...in addition to theremostat I'd like to be able to use a rule like "When outside temp in my zipcode is >75F, turn on, when <70F, turn off".

I'm a software dev so I can write the logic, but the SmartHQ app as far as I can tell is a totally closed ecosystem.
