Range and repeaters; what solution is better?? (Insteon vs Caséta) Posted: 22 Apr 2021 05:52 PM PDT Hello, I'm in the process of building my dream house and coming from my previous condo I really liked to be able to control my heat and lighting from my i devices (iPhone, iPad and apple watch). The electrical contractor is trying to ''push'' me toward Lutron Caséta while I was more than happy to renew my latest experience with Insteon. I'm currently researching Lutron and I think I found an issue...my house dimensions are 100' x 23' (Longhouse style) and I would rather have the hub/smart bridge well hidden in my telecom cabinet in the garage. Any body have hands on experience on the Caseta range? Insteon claims 150' (open field) while Caséta 15' radius that can only be boosted once by a repeater (adding 30') then twice by a plugable light dimmer totalising a small 45' from the original smart bridge. Am I missing information on Caséta about range and extendability? Thanks [link] [comments]

Frigidaire FHWW102WCE "connected" window A/C won't reconnect to home WiFi network Posted: 22 Apr 2021 07:44 PM PDT This A/C unit is almost brand-new. Bought it on the 6th, and a few days ago, it disconnected from my home WiFi network. And no matter what I've tried, it won't reconnect again. The app always results in an ECPW005 error, which states, "Not able to get an IP address from the home Wi-Fi Router." So, judging by the reviews on the Frigidaire 2.0 app on the Google Play Store, it seems the app itself is to blame, as I'm not the only one with this issue. Many reviews state the "old" version had no issues. I tried installing that one, and it balks when I start it, stating that this app has been discontinued. I could attempt to log in, but it errors out again anyway. I saw a post from redditor kfh227 from a couple years ago, describing a very similar scenario, but nothing in the responses I could use to solve my issue. I've tried a lot of things.... "factory resetting" the unit (which didn't seem to take, honestly, as it turned on with the same settings as before), removing/forgetting it from the Xfinity router settings, rebooting said router and all home/hub devices, and even turning things off and back on again (thank you, Chris O'Dowd). Nothing working so far. Any tips? [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Apr 2021 07:24 PM PDT Hi, I found this color loop script on reddit, can't locate it back. This script works for controlling rgb led strips in node red. But how can make colors fade rather than hard change. [link] [comments]

Posted: 22 Apr 2021 05:02 PM PDT I've got blinds which run off of DPDT switches. Does anyone know of a z-wave or wifi switch I could use to control these through Home Assistant? [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Apr 2021 06:24 PM PDT I'm looking for ideas to install window sensors on single hungs without going through the sash (risking water ingress). Is this possible without doing surface mount? Please tell me I'm missing something obvious. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Apr 2021 12:04 AM PDT I want to play a podcast at night and shuffle the order with a routine on an Amazon Echo. I've been playing the podcast through Spotify, and after the sleep timer shuts it off, after several days, various episodes are halfway done. When these episodes are reached, Spotify resumes from where they left off, only I want them to start from the beginning. Has anyone found a skill that can do something like this? I realize there are apps on the phone that can do it and I was hoping to find a way to do it voicelessly. Thanks! [link] [comments]
How do I control these Zigbee lights the way I want to from a Z-Wave dimmer? Posted: 22 Apr 2021 12:39 PM PDT I'm getting a little confused, and I would like some help understanding exactly which hardware can do what I want. Here's what I currently have:
I want to replace the three way switch with a Z-wave dimmer that does the following:
I'm looking at Inovelli for the dimmer, although I'm unclear on whether I need a red or can get away with a black. I would put it in relay-off mode, but once I do that I'm not sure how it works to get the dimmer to control and show the brightness of a bunch of Zigbee bulbs with Home Assistant mediating everything. I'm also open to using a Zigbee dimmer if that simplifies life. [link] [comments]
Brilliant switches... two in the same room? Posted: 22 Apr 2021 11:12 PM PDT Hey there, for those of you with Brilliant Switches, do any of you have 2 in the same room? Here's my use-case. We're remodeling our kitchen. The kitchen actually has 3 doorways to enter. I'd like a light switch at two of the entry points. I have 3 lights in the kitchen: cabinet, pendant, and ceiling. So I'd want the Brilliant model w/ the screen and the 3 physical switches. So for doorway number two, do I get the same device? Or... what do I get? I want 3 switches. I don't feel like I need two screens in the same room. I also may not actually want that, but I also don't see a great alternative if I want switches in two spots. They don't sell a non-screen 3-switch model. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Lutron Caseta - Dimmer With Neutral, or other options. Posted: 22 Apr 2021 11:32 AM PDT I recently bought a new house (built in 2020-21) and switched my owners suite switches to Lutron Caseta. The switch functionality is great but there's a few things I'm kind of meh on. Before I get too deep I wanted to reset and make sure I wasn't going the wrong direction. I am having a hard time finding a Caseta dimmer switch that uses neutral (I have neutral in all boxes). Does this exist? The switches in general are a bit pricey. On my last house I used the GE/Jasco zwave switches. They worked OK, but I had a few issues so was hoping to find something better. I also didn't like how the switch operated. I have a smart things hub so zwave or zigbee is definitely good. I want to avoid wifi for sure. Lutron requires it's hub which works well but it's another hub in my network closet. To its credit it's not on the same frequency as wifi so that's a plus. [link] [comments]
Anyone else with a frustrating aladdin connect / garage door app? Posted: 22 Apr 2021 08:22 PM PDT Let me explain how frustrating this is: Me: OK Google, talk to aladdin connect AC: long winded explanation of what it can do that I can't interrupt Me: disable pin AC: please give me your pin Me: pin AC: you will no longer be asked for your pin. Is there anything else I can do? Me: close garage door AC: may I have your pin? No matter how many times I disable the pin, it absolutely refuses to disable it. Then there's other issues where the app thinks the garage door is stuck closing for hours and won't let me do anything until I physically hit the button on the aladdin connect device (which is mounted on my roof) itself. As if Google home wasn't frustrating enough with its unreliability. [link] [comments]
Discreet cameras for inside that are PRIVACY friendly. Posted: 22 Apr 2021 08:18 PM PDT I'm in the process of researching how to smart home my home. I see folks here use cameras inside their house, however I am not keen on using cameras in my living spaces that can be accessed by the manufacturer (regardless of what they say are their safeguards). So two questions: Are there cameras I can run to my server that record LOCAL, don't phone home to China (or any other country) when turned on, can still be accessible from the internet if I want to remote in? Second: Are there cameras that are discreet that look "nice?" I don't want to put some ugly ass camera in my living room, pointing at the door, that isn't going to look nice. Thoughts? Posted: 22 Apr 2021 10:30 AM PDT Hello everyone. I'm about to buy my first robot vacuum, and I'm split between the Neato D4 and the Roomba i3. They're both at the same price at Amazon, but I would like to read more reviews and recommendations before deciding which one I should get. Things to take in consideration: - I live in a small apartment. (I don't know the exact dimensions) - I have no pets. - No rugs (the floor is ceramic). - I wouldn't like a vacuum that's too noisy. - If I were to move the vacuum back to my hometown, we do have dogs with short hair. (House also has hard floor) - App support does matter, so I would like a vacuum that has an app that works and it's not too buggy. - How easy would it be to replace accessories. - Voice assistant integration (I use Alexa). - I would like to know more about power consumption for each model. I have watched Vacuum wars videos, but I'm still unsure which one to get, so more opinions from people who have owned one or both models would help me to finally decide. Looking forward for your replies, and if you need any more information, let me know! [link] [comments]
replace ancient intercom/door unlock button Posted: 22 Apr 2021 01:43 PM PDT Firming up front gate security and want to replace the indoor unlock button that remotely (via wire) unlocks front gate. An old intercom style setup. Switchbot looks perfect, but would be an eyesore in the location of this button. Any suggestions for an in-wall or swap-out alternative to hide the functionality? Shelly? Would like to connect with Homekit. Also, any suggestions on a homekit-enabled keypad that could be used to unlock from the outside? The August keypad looks nice, but I would not be using an August lock to pair it with. Not sure what is behind this button but assume the switch is powered somewhere between the gate (low voltage light and intercom are located at the gate). Thanks! [link] [comments]
Ceiling fan has killed two smart switches. Am I missing something? Posted: 22 Apr 2021 07:21 PM PDT Does anyone else have experience with failures when using a smart switch for controlling power to just the ceiling fan? Before the smart switch it was just a dumb toggle switch on the hot. When I installed the smart switch I had to tie the neutral I found in the box. So far I have had one GE smart switch fail and it looks like a Zooz now has failed. Anyone recommend a more reliable switch or point out what I am doing wrong in here? Thanks Edit: First switch was a GE dimmer toggle. Second switch was a Zooz ZEN23 toggle on/off. [link] [comments]

Small indoor gardening for dumb people (like me) Posted: 22 Apr 2021 12:11 PM PDT Hi guys, I'm looking for an automated solution for indoor gardening for my two vases for the times when I will be able to go for some holidays (so, not anytime soon, considering the pandemic). I know there are already many projects for this, but most of the ones I found are for gardening on a bigger scale and/or with water pumps/soldering and stuff I'm completely dumb with: zero manual skills. Is there any dumb-proof/ready-to-use solution for people like me? Thank you. [link] [comments]
Wyze bulb-Aeotec/SmartThings-IFTTT Posted: 22 Apr 2021 12:06 PM PDT Maybe I'm missing something here, but just last year I managed to use a Wyze motion sensor to trigger an Aeotec switch via SmartThings and IFTTT, (that sounds like a lot, when you type it out) now it doesn't appear that the new SmartThings app no longer supports IFTTT as a smart app. I wanted to use my Aeotec Nanomote Quad to create a "meeting in progress" button that would turn on/off a Wyze color bulb to a certain color when pressed. I have a SmartThings hub 2, lots of Aeotec, Lutron hub and switches, and lots of Wyze stuff... ideas? [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Apr 2021 11:57 AM PDT Hello All, Do you know some reliable zigbee proximity sensor working fine with Conbee, HA and Node Red? I think it should be microvawe rather than infrared. I would like to use two of them to turn on stair lights. I have Aqara sensor. It works great in bathroom, but for stairs it is too sensitive - I have my "home office" under the stairs what causes multiple unnecessary triggers. [link] [comments]
Yale lock unlocked on its own, happen to anybody else Posted: 22 Apr 2021 07:32 AM PDT I have the Yale lock (not the one specific to nest). I woke up, walked into my kitchen, grabbed a drink and saw my Yale lock unlock on its own. I pulled out my phone, swiped up to check if my ring app was open (thinking maybe some buttons got hit in my pocket) and it was not, it was hard closed. I opened the app and didn't have any notifications telling me about the unlock. I have glass doors and windows (floor to ceiling) everywhere and can say with 100% certainty that nobody was outside I don't have any timers or motion sensors set up that would trigger this and it's the first time I've ever seen this. Has anybody experienced this? [link] [comments] |
