Any interest in something that helps you pick out what hardware/software works together? Posted: 04 May 2021 05:33 PM PDT I started putting one together as a side project to fill the time but figured I would see if anyone would actually be interested? I've seen a few older sites out there that don't seem to be up to date but don't look like they do a great job of providing a sort of guided flow to let you know what controller/protocols to use and all of the options/use cases for light bulbs/switches/relays/plugs and other components and info on what works out of the box and what requires tinkering. After buying a house and spending a few dollars here and there on stuff that doesn't play well together in the long run, figured it might be helpful for people new to home automation. I'm assuming the veterans here already know plenty, but would you have used something like that at the beginning? [link] [comments]
Is it possible to hack ikea bulbs to make it compatible with zwave or thread? Posted: 04 May 2021 10:11 PM PDT It is a theoretical question! Since zigbee zwave thread all use the same radio standard, I wonder if it would be possible to hack an ikea accessory to make it work with say thread. [link] [comments]
Using Motion Sensor with Kasa Switch & Dimmed at Certain Times Only Posted: 04 May 2021 05:37 PM PDT Hello, I want my lights in a room to turn off automatically if no motion is detected after 10 minutes. Separately, I want to have dimmed lights from 10pm to 7am in my bathroom and normal brightness during other times. Are either of these possible with my existing Kasa switches? Potentially by purchasing a motion sensor separately? I also have everything connected to my Google Nest Hub Max. Apparently, Reed from Smart Home Solver is able to do both of these using Kasa Smart with his Alexa based system and a Wyze motion sensor. What do you guys think? https://youtu.be/EvEbk4EHr2c?t=183 Thanks! [link] [comments]
Robot vacuum on multiple levels? Posted: 04 May 2021 07:02 PM PDT Hey! I want to buy a robot vacuum and I'm between three choices. Roomba 675 or between Roborock S4 Max and Roomba i3. Basically, my question is, is it worth it to splurge on a robot vacuum with navigation if the house has multiple levels? My parents' house has a bit of a weird layout: living room is on the main level, three steps up is the kitchen/dining room and then three steps down from there is the family room. Then there's the second floor. So, considering this robot will have to be carried around quite a bit, is it useful to have the navigation component? Would it also be useful to have a self-emptying bin since that would have to moved around? The house is tiles only, with a few rugs. No pets. Thanks. [link] [comments]
What's the cheapest way to use GH to change input on a non-smart TV? Posted: 04 May 2021 09:48 PM PDT I want to turn on my TV and turn it to a specific input if it isn't already. Can't seem to figure out how. Is this even possible? Is there any kind of HDMI-CEC smart adapter type of thing I could add between the device and TV? [link] [comments]
non-wireless whole house energy monitor Posted: 04 May 2021 09:41 PM PDT I'm looking for a non-wireless whole house energy monitor that uses current transducers but keeps the data local. I would maybe connect a laptop to download the historical data. The minimum data I'm interested in are kW and A. I haven't been able to find any commercial products that meet these criteria. Unfortunately I'm not proficient at coding and I tried soldering once or twice but couldn't for some reason (although I can solder copper pipe). [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 May 2021 09:05 PM PDT Anyone having trouble with Alexa constantly finding "new" scenes from other apps like smart life and tp-link that have already been found and are already active. I keep getting notifications over my echo and phone telling me that Alexa has found the same scenes over and over. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks [link] [comments]

Easiest way to schedule or automate on/off PIR 3-way light switch? Posted: 04 May 2021 06:24 PM PDT So I'm just starting to dip my toes into HA, and I already have a Lutron Caseta wireless dimmer installed as my first step. Since I plan to invest in this ecosystem going forward, I'm wondering if it's possible to do what I want with Lutron Caseta below: I have a staircase that has a light above it and steplights that are both activated by a three way switch at the top and bottom. The switch is Leviton and also has a motion detector so that the lights auto turn off after a set interval (I can adjust the interval). The auto-off motion sensor (it doesn't support auto on) feature is nice when I'm just going downstairs at night and forget to turn off the lights on my way back up, but I want something smarter. Namely, I'd like a switch and sensor that functions the way my current switch does, but that also allows me to schedule a time of day when the switch will use the motion detector to automatically turn on the lights when I ascend and descend the stairs in addition to automatically turning off after a few minutes of no activity. So I'm looking for something that acts like my current switch (3 way with auto off) during the day, and then at night would auto turn on and off with motion sensor (in addition to functioning as a regular 3way switch). What are my options HA gurus? [link] [comments]
Best automatic vacuum with rubber roller? Posted: 04 May 2021 08:37 AM PDT I'm looking for my first automatic vacuum. I want it to handle pet hair and long hair. I've heard Roborock S7 is good one but it also costs much. I like very much the rubber roller it has. Is there any other vacuum having similar rubber roller to S7? Or can you recommend me different automatic vacuum for pet hair and long hair that won't let hair tangle in roller? Thank you in advance. [link] [comments]

Controlling similarly named devices, groups, or routines in two different homes. Posted: 04 May 2021 12:43 PM PDT Situation: I have a single Amazon account that is associated with two Echo hubs, one in each of two houses I own. The houses are in different cities. Question: How would I configure devices (or device groups) and routines such that the command "turn on kitchen lights" would understand my current location and only turn on the kitchen lights in the house in which I am currently located? [ I know I could brute-force the solution with routines 'turn on kitchen lights in City A' and 'turn on kitchen lights in City B' ... but I'd like to keep the voice commands as simple as possible ] [ also understand that I could create an Amazon account for each location and keep devices and routines separated that way ] [link] [comments]
Thoughts on the best way to pull value from an NHS website into Home Assistant? Posted: 04 May 2021 08:32 AM PDT I would like to let Home Assistant alert me when the UK NHS COVID website advertises that vaccine appointments are available for people my age or younger. The website is https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/ I am comfortable writing this kind of thing as a bash script, where it finds the value and checks of its =< "age" , but is there a simpler way to do this in home assistant? There doesn't appear to be a standard API available so I think scraping the page is the only way to go. [link] [comments]
Is zigbee compatible with addressable rgb strips? Posted: 04 May 2021 10:49 AM PDT Does anyone know if zigbee is capable of controlling an RGBic/drreamcolor/addressable/pixel led strip and if so what hardware do I need? [link] [comments]
Notification when certain electrical circuit is used Posted: 04 May 2021 08:57 AM PDT I am looking for a way to setup a notification to my phone when a certain circuit is used. I have a geothermal system with a backup "auxiliary" heat strip. The heat strip is on a separate 50 amp breaker. Does anyone know of a way to setup an alert for when only that particular circuit is used? It seems like the couple of options I might have found only support up to 40 amps. I want an alert so I can then decide if I want to lower the temp in my house to avoid paying for the electric heat or if I want to keep the temp where it is. Thanks [link] [comments]
Shelly 2.5 vs 4 roller shutters Posted: 04 May 2021 07:15 AM PDT I have 4 roller shutters controller by 4 up and down toggles. I know the 2.5 has two individual relays. My question is can I hook up two roller shutters to one relay so 1 shelly can control all 4 shutters? [link] [comments]
Recommended CO2/temperature/humidity and ground moisture sensors Posted: 04 May 2021 06:36 AM PDT Hi, I am looking for CO2/temperature/humidity indoor sensors as well ground moisture sensors for indoor/outdoor plants. Bonus points if the data is only processed/stored locally and not in any cloud service. I am looking at the Netatmo weather station with additional indoor sensors for CO2/temperature/humidity: https://www.netatmo.com/en-us/weather/weatherstation And I am looking at the Gardena smart sensor for ground moisture: https://www.gardena.com/uk/products/smart/smart-system/smart-sensor/967986501/ The Gardena system looks good but is a bit expensive for all my indoor plants. Can you recommend those systems or other systems? I have a HomeKit system but if the sensor has an API then I am happy to implement a home bridge plug-in. Thank you! [link] [comments]
