How do I voice control my TV?

    Posted: 05 May 2021 08:08 PM PDT

I have a cheapo TCL smart TV, a Nvidia Shield, and an Amazon Echo. I don't even need to control what I watch with my voice, just on, off, and volume. What do I need?

Looking for smart replacement for: single gang box with three switches

Looking for smart replacement for: single gang box with three switches

I am looking for a product that has 3 smart switches (no dimmer necessary) that fits into a single gang box. See the attached image for what I am trying to replace. Due to space constraints I am unable to upsize to a double gang box. Does a product like this exist?

alternative to chromecast audio (commercially available, or DIY)

    Posted: 05 May 2021 03:00 AM PDT

    Hi,

I'd like to be able to stream music to my hifi system, via Spotify, via bluetooth, and via chromecast, well, the standard. Spotify is easy with something like raspotify. I have no experience in this topic with bluetooth or chromecast.

Chromecast Audio is not available anymore and sells for ridiculously expensive prices online. I'm seeing some alternatives, in the range of ~30€, and they don't all even support WiFi.

Do you have a recommendation for me? I'm willing to build something out of a RPI, but it'd have to support all I'm after (bluetooth, spotify connect, chromecast).

    thank you!

Looking for a way to turn my TV on with voice.

    Posted: 05 May 2021 08:11 PM PDT

So it seems I'm running in a circle here. I need something to enable me to turn on/off my LCD TVs with just voice commands through an Alexa. I understand that it's more than likely a smart home hub that I need, but most of the one's I'm finding are either over $100 or are so cheap that I'm unsure if they're real products. Anyone have a recommendation for something I can use?

Looking for a smart HDMI switch similar to Caavo

    Posted: 05 May 2021 11:35 AM PDT

    Hi

I have a Cavvo HDMI switch although it seems to be having trouble with HDR and sometimes just doesn't work properly

Looking for a smart HDMI switch that can be controlled with Google home and supports 4K plus HDR

Reason for needing one is that my TV doesn't have enough HDMI ports although all 3 support HDR at 4K 60

    Thanks!

Finding a water level sensor or elevation sensor for water tank that can cut power or send me notification so that I can turn off the smart life app power (smart switch) to the pump to prolong the pump life. The string and key chain is attached to a floatation ball in the tank.

    Universal Remote for Multiple TVs

    Posted: 05 May 2021 10:21 AM PDT

I have 3 TVs in one room, each has a direct TV genie attached and one has a sound bar as well. Can I get rid of all the other remotes and replace them with a logitech harmony 665? I'd like to have 1 remote instead of 7. Is there a cleaner/easier solution?

    Thanks,

Question about switches for smart bulbs and dumb bulbs

    Posted: 05 May 2021 12:53 PM PDT

Building a new house in the midwest and I'm DIYing the home automation after deciding against a professional Control4 installation. Couple questions:

    1. Our lighting will be a combination of can lights that I plan to use Philip Hue bulbs for and some light fixtures that my wife has picked out that will have to use some regular bulbs, not smart bulbs. I want everything to be able to be turned off/on by the automation system though. My struggle is finding switches that can control both the Philips Hue bulbs (via the Philips hub), and the light fixtures containing regular bulbs, while maintaining a consistent light switch "look" throughout the house. For example, I could use the Philips Hue wireless switches for all the Hue bulbs and the Lutron Caseta switches for the light fixtures with regular bulbs, but now I have two kinds of switches throughout the house. Any ideas?
    2. For structured wiring, I'm having CAT8 and speaker wire run from all the rooms to the equipment room. I'm debating whether I should also have HDMI run. I'm not sure what the benefit would be other than to have centralized audio/video control for the TVs, and I don't know how useful that is.

My generic china made universal IR remote seems to have killed my air-conditioner

    Posted: 05 May 2021 09:45 AM PDT

Hi, just experimented with an IR universal remote puck to be used with my aircon. When I finally got it to work google home can't turn it on/off (which is the reason I bought it in the first place). After using the puck to on/off my aircon, it started to turn off by itself after around 20 to 30 mins or so. and displaying 9 5 F consistently on the led part. I can't turn it on with my original remote, I just unplug the unit and plug it then turn it on again, but it turns off again after 30 mins. I think my IR remote broke my air-conditioner. anybody else experience this?

automating blinds up/down/shade (somfy RTS and somfy IO)

    Posted: 05 May 2021 06:57 AM PDT

Hi! I just moved into a new place and I want to automate my blinds. I made a post a few days ago, I have since then made some research and I'd like to check my findings with you.

    1. I have 2 blinds controlled by remotes of this type: https://imgur.com/WJSpnjt, this should be Somfy RTS. I have found this: https://github.com/aszopko/somfy-esp8266. This seems to be just what I need. One 433.92 MHz RF emitter module, and a bit of soldering to replace the crystal to a 433.42 MHz. That sound doable. Do you confirm that this is correct?
    2. I have 3 blinds controlled by remotes of this type: https://imgur.com/6QfExNb, this should be Somfy IO. Apparently that's on 868.35 MHz and I'm not finding a clean solution for this, I'm finding this which hacks real IO remotes. Thing is, the remotes are ~40 € and I'd need 3 of them (the blind are in three different rooms, so I don't think I could use one that ). I could hack my existing ones but I'd prefer to keep them intact. Do you know if there's a better way for this?

    Thank you!

    Smart vents(such as Flair)

    Posted: 05 May 2021 09:08 AM PDT

Our master bedroom is large with high ceilings and a window that gets ALL the morning sun/heat. I just started looking into "smart vents" to help redirect air to keep that room cool. Does anyone have recommendations as far as companies to look at? Or typical cost to do something like this?

    Thanks for any help!

Motion sensors to power c by ge products?

    Posted: 05 May 2021 03:20 PM PDT

Hey everyone I've slowly over the last three months started to buy smart home products. Anyways after reading a couple of Reddit posts here and there I've decided that motion sensors to trigger lights is a must have.

My question is do I have to buy c be ge branded motion sensors or is there cheaper alternatives ? For example I want to have the sensors turn on the bathroom lights to the most dim setting after midnight

    Switch without load

    Posted: 05 May 2021 05:48 AM PDT

    Hello all.

I have a bedroom that's oddly wired. All the light switches are outside the room. I'm connecting them to smart switches, and would like a way to control them from inside the bedroom. Everything is on Z-wave.

Are there any Z-wave switch that can function in this manner? I tried searching for anywhere switch but didn't have any luck.

    Thank you

    W.

Melnor bluetooth Water Timer - Remote Control Inquiry

    Posted: 05 May 2021 01:40 PM PDT

Hi everyone, I have a Melnor Bluetooth Water Timer that I can currently only monitor and control through my mobile app (android). I want to be able to do this remotely, in the sense that I want to do this when I am out of Bluetoothrange, maybe through another app. I have the following available: Logitech Harmony, Google Home and Samsung Smarthings Hub. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Best smart DIMMING switch for 6 LED recessed slim lights?

    Posted: 05 May 2021 05:30 AM PDT

I am trying to install 6 LED recessed lights in my kitchen. I want to know if 1 smart switch can control all 6 or will it cause problems. If 1 switch for 6 lights is too much, can I make it into 2 switches to control a pair of 3 lights or do I need to do 3 switches to control 3 pairs. Also want help finding the best slim recessed lighting and smart led switch.

    Thanks in advance!
