My Xiaomi 25012 Robotic Vacuum Cleaner keeps forgetting the map. Why? Posted: 19 May 2021 12:02 AM PDT Does Xiaomi 25012 Robotic Vacuum Cleaner lose the map every time I pick it up to get cables, lego and socks from the brush? How to keep the map and still be able to pick it up from the floor? [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 May 2021 04:40 PM PDT hi I use Homebridge for my smart home for a year , and I want to move one to home assistant (better automation) . is there any easy way to do so? im using now the raspberry pie as the server [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 May 2021 10:06 PM PDT Hi guys. I'm running my smarthome through Smartthings. I had to reset my hub and when I connected all my things back to the hub, a presence sensor turnd up on the homescreen. I don't have a presence sensor connected to my hub, as far as I know. Anyone know what that could be? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Looking for advice on a Smart Home Theater Gaming set up Posted: 18 May 2021 05:44 PM PDT TLDR; If I'm running a bunch of console through an HDMI switch, and want to use an up-scaler, do I need to get an up-scaler for each retro console (Wii, GameCube, PS2, NES, and SNES)? I currently planning an update to my home theater/console set up and am planning to use a harmony hub to control IR HDMI switches to swap to the correct input when prompted via Google Assistant or from the remote. I'm gonna have an AV receiver that is there to manage most of my speakers and to connect the harmony companion to, but the issue I run into is routing retro console AV. I'd like to move all of them up to HDMI with adapters and what-not and also up-scale the image quality. If I'm using an HDMI switch controlled with an IR blaster that the Harmony Companion is compatible with, do I need individual up-scalers for each console? Or can I tac it on at the end of the switch before going to the AV Receiver? (If this doesn't belong here, please at least recommend another subreddit) [link] [comments]
Cheapest door sensor that don't steal your data. Posted: 18 May 2021 02:42 PM PDT So i got some cheap door sensor wifi-variant from amazon. Installing it, had to install Tuya and it was very sketchy. This thing is going back. What's the most cheapest (preferably that won't require hub) simple wifi-enabled door sensor? I was looking at Eve door sensor but that works with bluetooth only when not connected to homekit (i don't have one unfortunately). And it connecting to wifi is a must for me. [link] [comments]
Home media set up help on non-smart Dynex TV (Noob to Kodi, Roku, Plex, etc.) Posted: 18 May 2021 04:31 PM PDT I've been doing research lately on how to set up a media server on my non-smart Dynex TV. I don't know a lot about this stuff as I'm just getting into it so I need all the help I can get, please and thank you. After doing some watching of YouTube videos I've eliminated Plex from my options, leaving either Emby, Jellyfin, Streama, JustWatch and Universal Media Server (I'm most likely gonna go with JellyFin if it meets my requirements). Are Roku and Kodi ways to set up the media server or are they media servers themselves? I know Jellyfin is completely free and it has live TV, too, which isn't that important but could be cool. I really only wanna watch Chicago Med, Penn & Teller's Fool Us and America's Got Talent (When those come back). Also, I know when you add media to your server, the source in which you added from has to stay connected. The files are on my external hard drive, and I leave my iMac on, most times I go to my desktop to check on things and while the hard drive is still mounted, it doesn't show anything on it. I have to force eject it and plug it back in. Maybe the USB ports on this thing are whack. I think so. So, that might be a problem. Now, back to the question of my TV; I don't know if I should shook up Roku or Kodi to it or hook up a FireStick TV to the USB port on the TV. I thought about buying a HDMI Splitter because I only have one HDMI port on the TV, and no cable box. The Dynex TV is from 2012 or earlier (I got it for High School graduation), so definitely not a Smart TV. All replies greatly appreciated. Thank you. [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 May 2021 08:17 PM PDT So I got the CC2531 stick working on my homebridge using Zigbee2MQTT and homebridge-z2m. But I just realize homekit only allows switches if there's a HomeKit hub. So I was thinking if there's any way/plugin to simulate a light switch action with zigbee switch and bulbs without needing to buy Apple TV or homepod as a hub? Or am I just going to have an easier time to just scrap the whole thing and use Home Assistant? [link] [comments]
Controlling Smart Devices Through a Python Script Posted: 18 May 2021 07:54 PM PDT For the past month I have been looking into making my own smart button that I can attach to a raspberry pi and control my lights. All my lights are running through Alexa and no matter how much I look I can't seem to find a way to send Alexa commands (without speaking) of what I want my lights to do, or even activate a routine. My lights are Gosund bulbs [link] [comments]
Opinions requested: person sensor Posted: 18 May 2021 09:05 AM PDT In my ideal home I'd have cameras in all the common areas, both for presence detection and person identification...but my GF said "No!" I know, I know, she's so mean! Idea number 2 is to have sensors in the light switches, mounted so that anyone entering a room would break the barrier and notify my home automation controller. I chose light switches because they're everywhere in a home, and they have line power. I'm thinking along the lines of a HC-SR04, or a small IR sensor. I'd like to get some opinions, if anyone has any ideas about which sensors might work, or not. Thanks all. [link] [comments]
Digital calendar with wall mount for large family Posted: 18 May 2021 01:40 PM PDT Hey y'all. I'm looking for a large digital calendar and would love suggestions. We're a family of 6 + an au pair. I need something that we can mount on the wall that has the day displayed at all times with appointments that I can sync up to phones and has alarms. These are my needs: 1) as large as possible since it'll be mounted on the wall 2) something my au pair and I can glance at and see the schedule for the day 3) not a need but my husband works for google so if it can connect to corporate google email, cool. If not it's not a deal breaker. 4) something that we can all add to it from our phone 5) I have dry erase boards throughout the house with to do lists for the day so that feature isn't really needed on the calendar 6) my entire house is literally a google smart house thanks to my husband so if it can work with home automation that would be a plus. Everyone keeps telling me to get a Dak board but I'm so overwhelmed between what's a subscription, what's a monitor, etc that I don't know what to get. Originally I had a HUGE glass board that I would update daily but the appointments got overwhelming and it no longer made sense for me to add to my phones calendar and write it on my glass board when I got home. I'm not opposed to buying a huge monitor and mounting it and using specific programs but I'm also far from tech savvy. Any advice? [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 May 2021 05:32 PM PDT Basically this; I must put under surveillance an indoor room where there is no Internet connection. I just want a cam that can record locally when it detects ANY motion/or even 24/7. Then, from time to time, I'll just extract the SD ("micro" or not doesn't matter), physically insert it into a PC and check what's in there. I don't need a super-sharp quality, but some kind of low-res night vision is needed. ---- [link] [comments]

Posted: 18 May 2021 07:37 AM PDT I'm planning an addition, with a window 72x18 inch window high in the closet. I wasn't planning on having it open. But now I'm thinking about automatic openers. I want to know what experience people have had with automatic window opener. What type of window works best vertical open, horizontal, crank? What type of wiring is required? How reliable have they been? Anything else to consider? [link] [comments]
C by GE Smart Plug - How does it work without IP? Posted: 18 May 2021 07:32 AM PDT Ok - so I have a pretty good grasp on how networks function, but I have not really worked with a lot of home automation devices. I have a C by GE smart plug that came bundled with a Google Mini that I have been using for 6 months to control a light. Everything works, but I was hoping that instead of having just an on/off toggle via Google that I might be able to connect directly to the plug via its IP (or a web UI) and maybe be able to do a power-cycle option (i.e. off/on with one command). Anyway, in trying to figure this out I was unable to find the IP address of this device. To put it most succinctly, I have to assume that an IP address is required for this device to function. After all it has to somehow reach Google for google to instruct it to toggle power. During setup it requires Bluetooth on my phone to be active and it exposes a MAC address. However it doesn't appear to function over BT for commands, as I was successfully able to disable BT on my phone and still use the C by GE app to toggle on and off. In order to connect to my network it would have to get an IP address from my DHCP server, which does not show that it has handed out any IP addresses to this MAC address (or any other device I don't recognize). IP scans of my network don't show any device that matches (or that I don't recognize). So for all intents an purposes this device does not have an IP address, but is somehow able to communicate not just on the internal network, but seemingly to the Internet as well. To the best I can figure it must use only a MAC address for communication and support a magic packet to simply control a relay, much like a WOL device works. I guess this would mean that the Google Mini would have to somehow query the Internet for my device information, retrieve the MAC address of that specific plug, and then directly send the WOL packet from the Mini to the plug. This seems a little convoluted, but so far it is my only working theory as I don't how/where this thing could be getting an IP address and therefore don't know how else it could be functioning. Anyone have insight into how these things work? [link] [comments]

Does anyone have any experience with Yolink? Posted: 18 May 2021 08:31 AM PDT I'm looking for a system to basically just monitor and set off an alarm for doors and windows opening. Ideally I'd like push notifications and the ability to arm/disarm remotely. I've read some about Yolink and seems like the reviews are mostly positive but still seems like a pretty small company. If you've used it, how reliable and useful has it been for you? [link] [comments]

Getting Started Ring != Automation? Posted: 18 May 2021 09:45 AM PDT Hi. Total noob here, just starting my journey on home security and automation. Based on recent news about the industry (from videos on Youtube) it seems Ring is the way to go ($100 per year for monitoring is awesome and I am "ok" with battery powered devices). A big question I have is if I want to introduce some cool automation capabilities (such as controlling lights in my home and making sure doors are secured via smart locks) do I need some kind of "hub" beyond what I will get with the Ring security setup? It seems like I need other controlling hardware, but am I now forced to go down a path with a second app or can they all work together on a single app? Specifically, I am envisioning going to bed and clicking a button on my phone that makes sure all lights in my house are off and all doors locked. The wife isn't interested in voice control - we're a bit shy on Alexa recording everything. So, having an Echo in each room is out. Also, I work from home in a downstairs office - I would like to be able to monitor the front door from a web page (or app on my phone) as well. Any recommendations on what I would need to start? Need Solar Powered Security Camera Rec's Posted: 18 May 2021 08:29 AM PDT Looking for the best solar powered security camera. I would like to be able to share a link with others to view the camera in a web browser similar to a nest cam. Which models offer a second battery with a charger in case long periods of rain? Since internet is not close I will be using something like a Ubiquiti Nanobeam (unless you have better recommendations) to send the internet over to it. [link] [comments] |
