Wall tablets not charging with 5 v power supply Posted: 19 May 2021 07:47 PM PDT I was wondering if I could get some tips on my situation - I have a charging issue with some of my wall mounted tablets, and I'm not sure why or how to fix it. I purchased 3 amazon fire HD10 tablets a few months ago. I loaded them up with fully kiosk browser to run home assistant, which they do well. For power I had planned to put them at the alarm panel locations of the defunct security system. I used the existing wiring of the system, which is 22 gauge solid core. At the old security box, I spliced the wires to USB-A male cables, using only the 5V dc wires (not wiring the data ports), and then connected that to a USB charger (which is supposed to be able to put out 5 v x 2 amp maximum). I then spliced the wires at the old alarm boxes to usb c male plugs, and plugged those into the fire tablets. Now the tablets will state that they are "charging" but despite this, the tablets continuously lose charge over time, like they weren't plugged in at all. They will charge normally when plugged into a different source. Any ideas on why this might be occurring and what changes I might make to make it functional? Do I need to connect the data ports for the USB cables? [link] [comments]

A Times servo motor for Roomba door? Posted: 19 May 2021 09:52 AM PDT So I saw a post recently where a Reddit user made a roomba garage with a door opener connected with Home Assistant and I am amazed! I want to do something similar with my Roomba E5 but simpler. Just looking for any info or guide to make a servo open a little door that's on a timer, since my Roomba cleans everyday at 2:00pm, I'd want the door to open then. Is this possible? iPhone automation failing on Meross switches Posted: 19 May 2021 07:21 PM PDT I recently purchased some Meross smart dimmers and a few switches. I initially bought just a regular smart switch as a test run. It seemed reliable and like a decent brand for the price. After a few weeks I bought two more regular switches and two dimmer switches. I moved the regular switch to my ceiling fan and the dimmer onto the LED fixture the first switch was on. That's when I started having several problems. The dimmer switch randomly disconnects. This causes me to have to reprogram the Home automation. Even without a disconnect automation in Home fails about 99.9% of the time. I guess I'm looking for some advice. Does anyone have any ways to make the connection more reliable? I'm using my phone as the main Home "hub". From what I've read that's not necessarily how Home is supposed to work, but I can't get a definitive answer on that. Do I cut my losses and start looking into other brands? Do I double down and get a full HomeKit hub/dedicated iPad that always stays at my house? Should I use the Meross app for my automation and forget about Home? [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 May 2021 05:45 PM PDT From my limited knowledge, With the Zigbee alliance signing up to their new standard called Matter (Project Connected Home over IP (CHIP)) is it worth buying zigbee product now or is it best to wait a few months for Matter products to come out. I am guessing Zigbee will die out and Matter will be the future? It really bugs me that there's no real standard for home automation, it's not something you want to buy every 6 months... I'd like to set something up and it works for years to come not experiment with devices and find I have wasted a heap of money because 6 months later a service stops etc.... [link] [comments]
What can I do with a light switch box that is no longer used? Posted: 19 May 2021 02:00 PM PDT Hi all! That left me with a single gang light switch box that has nothing in it (it still has the wiring for the lights going through it). Currently it still has the switches in it but they do nothing. Before just getting a blank wall plate to cover it, or plastering over it completely, I wanted to check here to see if anyone has any cool ideas about what I can do in there. Any battery operated doodads that you suggest? The only requirements is that it's made to fit (or can be attached to) a single gang box, and that it's battery operated since sadly the box had no neutral to begin with. [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 May 2021 08:46 AM PDT So I am not sure this a thing or not as I could not find anything. Is there a software, site or app that allows you to "build" a home automation system without having the devices? I was hoping to build a blue print for a dry run model to see what can be done / what is needed. Something like those home design sites where you get to pick from a list of "things" and place them and see how it looks. In theory you would be able to add in a smart tv here and a smart switch there and see how they would interact. Or is Visio the only option for building the blue print and just figuring it out that way? [link] [comments]

Smart Electric Blanket or Mattress Pad Suggestions? Posted: 19 May 2021 04:56 PM PDT Hi all! Wondering if anyone has come across a solution for a way that I can use the google assistant to heat a bed...? My grandmother is 94, and it's winter here in Australia at the moment. She's having trouble staying warm at night, especially when she forgets to go to bed until ~3am, when it's coldest in her house. Currently she uses a wheat bag that she heats in the microwave before bed, but it doesn't last much past about an hour or so. Because of her age, it's difficult to teach her new things, but over the last couple of years she's gotten good at "talking to Google." She will ask the Assistant to set alarms for her when she needs to wake up in the morning, or for information about the weather, etc. While I'm not sure we could teach her the ins and outs of a new electric blanket (or similar), I'm confident that if she could control it by voice (and so long as it has an auto-off!) she would pick it up quickly. Does anyone know of a product like this, or do you have ideas for other solutions? I've thought about smart switches, but the trouble is that most electric blankets won't turn on just because they're plugged in and powered. I also wonder how I would be able to ensure an auto shut off (say after a few hours) if we used something like that? Appreciate any insights, suggestions, and tips! Thanks all. [link] [comments]

Posted: 19 May 2021 11:25 AM PDT I'm sure it's been asked 1000 times but I've got a somewhat specific question. I just grabbed a few TP-Link Kasa bulbs to test out and they've been fine. However, I now need a handful of candelabra bulbs, which they don't make. So I want to switch to a brand that makes candelabra bulbs as well as standard bulbs. Trying to avoid Philips Hue for the price mainly. Any other good suggestions for a brand that does both types? Thanks [link] [comments]
My q garage door opener MAC address blocked by netgear R6900p router Posted: 19 May 2021 01:48 PM PDT Hi, I have a Netgear R6900p routed. I need to go to MAC address filtering to allow my my q MAC address to connect. Somehow my router blocks the MAC address from connecting. My question is can I add this MAC address to connect? I don't want to go into MAC address filtering and mess up anything. I have 39 devices in my home currently connected to this router and all are working perfectly. My router log show the my q MAC address as being blocked every time I try to set it up. So I'm assuming MAC address filtering is the way to allow it. I just need to know can I allow this specific device to work or do I have to allow every device to work. If it's every device than that's a nightmare. Thanks for any help [link] [comments]
Homeautomation without Cloud, Google Assistant, Alexa Posted: 19 May 2021 07:21 AM PDT In the current climate, are there solutions that don't send information to Google/Amazon? I am really focusing on privacy and want to reduce the information that leaves my house. [link] [comments]

WiFi / ZWave / Zigbee Interface for Multiple Garage Door Openers? Posted: 19 May 2021 11:48 AM PDT I have a 3-door garage with 3 older Craftsman garage door openers. I would like provide a phone app interface (especially for when I forget my keys), as well as automate this system, e.g. to automatically open the door when I get home, and tell me when a door is left open. Ideally, I would like this to be a device that goes in-line with the garage door switches (multi-channel device would be ideal), rather than a device like MyQ that pairs with garage door opener. What are my options, either for something off-the-shelf or a DIY project based on Arduino or something similar. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Posted: 19 May 2021 04:05 AM PDT Hi, I'm looking for a keypad-based smart system that will work with a multipoint lock. I am adding a 8' hinged patio door (wood) and I have read suggestions that such tall doors should use multipoint hardware. What I'm mainly looking for is the ability to monitor the locked status and unlock it using a code. It doesn't need to be actuated remotely. I haven't been able to find many solutions except the (expensive) Yale lock that requires an (expensive) Andersen door: Any other suggestions? [link] [comments]

Newbee help please, to complicated problems.. Posted: 19 May 2021 02:18 AM PDT Sorry a bit new to this, and probably are aiming high, but could just be soo nice if it was possibel..
EDIT: solution found ...... Eltako Controller 0-10V dimmer with 600 watts feed through :D Second problem, is i wanna read the PH values from a water tank in my smartthings universe(zigbee/zwave, got samsung hub V3), bought something that looked like it could solve the problem, but i am totally new as mentioned. bought this: Smart Implant | FIBARO Manuals Grove - PH Sensor Kit (E-201C-Blue ) - Seeed Studio probably need a dedicated PHsensor device handler, instead of the "generic" device handler i found on github for the Fibaro smart implant?? then i have a third problem, which i am willing to pay for getting some one to do, i got the python script to make the PHsensor work. Hope you guys and gals are the right ones to get this help from, and i know this could benefit many, since there is no PH sensor for zigbee or z-wave on the market at all, and both people with pools and grow rooms/tents are seeking this feature/product on many boards/forums all over the smarthome community.. Schlage Camelot Encode Wifi Door Lock BATTERY DRAIN HELP Posted: 19 May 2021 01:31 AM PDT Can I get anyone to share a battery drain fix for the Schlage Camelot Encode Wifi Door Lock? I've been using the smart door lock since Nov 2019 and until about 1-1/2 months ago the batteries (4x AA batteries) would last around 4 - 6 months. Since that time I've been changing batteries out every 11 days and it's getting frustratingly expensive. I was very happy with the lock's functionality up until the batteries started draining so quickly. Some info that might help... I use a new set of Energizer batteries for each change out. The lock connects to a Ubiquiti wifi access point that is in direct line of sight of the lock and only about 15 feet away. The frequency of lock use (open/close) hasn't changed. I've reset my network and the lock itself but that didn't help. Lock Firmware Versions: [link] [comments] |
