Critique my smart home wiring plan for contractor Posted: 25 May 2020 08:14 PM PDT We are doing a major renovation including mostly new electrical. I wanted to take the opportunity to wire as much as I can for home automation, speakers, etc, while the walls are open, even if I won't implement everything right away. I'm trying to balance future proofing the house with recognition that it's 2020 and wireless works for certain things. PLEASE CRITIQUE. Here is an IMGUR with plans for each floor and a blow-up for family room TV wall. A few things in my head (not relevant for contractor)

Posted: 25 May 2020 03:52 AM PDT I have a half dozen smart switches from gosund and Feit hooked up to my segregated guest WiFi network. Is there any reason besides light WiFi congestion to switch? [link] [comments]
Light switches from across a room? Posted: 25 May 2020 06:35 PM PDT I'm not sure if this is the right subreddit but... I have a set of two light switches in my room that are right beside the door. My bed is across the room. Is there any way I can remotely control the switches from my bed? This feels like a silly question sorry [link] [comments]

Need doorbell advice for SmartThings setup Posted: 25 May 2020 06:06 PM PDT OK I think I'm down to a Skybell vs a ring. I'd probably prefer to go Skybell because of the o subscription fees. But... I cannot locate by doorbell transformer in my house. Basement was finished after the fact and I think they may have it buries in the cwinging inaccessible. House is 20 years old so I think there's a good chance it would need an upgraded transformer. For the Ring, can I also hardwire it (to make use of my existing analog chime) or does it have the same need for upgraded transformer that the Skybell does? [link] [comments]

Posted: 25 May 2020 04:55 PM PDT So we have a pool and a 13mo so that means safety is our number 1 concern. I want to put a sensor on our pool deck fence so I know if his forbid my kid somehow gets on the deck and opens it. Are there any waterproof sensors, say zwave, that I can connect to my ST hub? I want to have it alarm whenever the gate is opened as well as send alerts to our phone. I know there are some self contained systems out there but I figured I could just buy a sensor to add to my network. [link] [comments]
Can we create 3D floor plan and use in Openhab ? Posted: 25 May 2020 04:41 PM PDT This in reference to the post , credits to the OP from there. I am in process of setting configs for OpenHab and wondering if something similar can be achieved on OpenHab as well and/or need much HTML/CSS programming skills ? Tried on YouTube, didn't find a tutorial (yet). [link] [comments]

IFTTT trigger Google Home annoucenemnt Posted: 25 May 2020 07:19 PM PDT I'd like my Google Home Hub to announce the time when the following conditions are true: -bathroom lights are on (GE z--wave switch, controlled through Smart Things and hooked up to Google Home) -bathroom fan is on (GE z--wave switch, controlled through Smart Things and hooked up to Google Home) -I have an appointment on my Google calendar that begins in 5 minutes. What is the simplest way to accomplish this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 May 2020 06:18 PM PDT So I am looking to set up a flow meter, psi, and Solenoid valve on my main. Was going to use a raspberry pi to control the instrument but why not throw in voice command for the hell of it. Has anyone configured google home with a raspberry pi? [link] [comments]
How can I automate my shutters? Posted: 25 May 2020 12:14 PM PDT My roller shutters are not electric and are completely dumb. Is it still possible, without electrifying the shutter itself to make it smart by using some sort of tool that controls the shutter directly at the handle? My handle looks like this. I was thinking about a tool at the top of the handle that rotates you know what I mean? Does something like this exist? Thanks guys in advance [link] [comments]
Flashing custom firmware with Tuya-Convert Posted: 25 May 2020 01:49 PM PDT
Posted: 25 May 2020 01:34 PM PDT I currently have a light group that contains 7 lights. They can be independently controlled with switches. I am currently trying to write a function that will on a long press turn all the lights on OR turn all the lights off. I only have 1 long press to do this. My life would be easier if I had another input so I can do all on or all off. The issue is that, when should I turn all lights on or turn all lights off on a long press? For example, if I have 3 lights on and 4 lights off, should the long hold turn them all on or turn them all off? Should i sum up each state and then turn on or off based on state with the highest amount? should it always turn everything into 1 state, and the long press again to make it the other state (first long hold = all on, second long hold = all off). Is there a common strategy that commercial products with the same features do it? I'm trying to keep this context free as I know I can throw in other things like time of day, the amount of people in the house etc but I want to make this user friendly for anyone else using it [link] [comments]

Sonoff RF Bridge now Integrates with IFTTT and in turn, Smartthings. Posted: 25 May 2020 07:40 AM PDT Visit this subreddit frequently although never joined until now as this post may help some. Haven't seen it mentioned for a while but a few other threads that are now archived, saw users looking to find an alternative when Hook hub integration for 433Mhz devices was lost or just a means of integrating 433Mhz devices into existing platforms. Notably MBDesignR, texasguy911, and dxdydz323 Some moved to an RM Pro, others to Sonoff RF bridges flashed with Tasmota, others to custom-built solutions, and some to the pricier Bond hub to restore 433Mhz control all presenting their own challenges and limitations. I have revisited the Sonoff recently and can confirm IFTTT integration is now available to buttons programmed to the RF bridge via the Ewelink app. Virtual switches configured in the ST IDE allow for communication between Ewelink and SmartThings via IFTT now which is great news. I have configured 5 Etekcity remotes using this method and all function flawlessly. I am European based so I can't speak for the US but assume the capability is there also. It seems this may well be a viable method for 433Mhz device control once more and hope this may help anyone still looking for an inexpensive option. [link] [comments]
What kind of easy and affordable home automation would you need right now if it existed? Posted: 25 May 2020 01:40 AM PDT Hey all, I ask you this question as I think that pretty much all is already invented on easy domotics. Lights, switches, blind motors or even vacuum cleaners, as an example, are already there at a pretty much affordable price, easy to install and to use. Who wouldn't need an automatic washing machine that automatically hang out your clothes for you? Or a device that makes your bed after waking up? Let's discuss it! [link] [comments]
Bond Hub Stuck Updating Firmware Posted: 25 May 2020 03:17 PM PDT The title gets a little ahead of the initial problem, it seems that in the last few days, my Bond BD-1000 hub lost communication with the router. After I rebooted both the Bond Hub failed to put itself into Wifi discovery mode & initially had two blue LEDs and a whitish ring. Eventually it rebooted "normal" and got the green flashing ring indicating it was ready to perform its setup, but the app keeps trying to do a firmware update first and stalls at 10% no matter how many times it attempts. Also tried the direct IP method and it fails to complete the Wifi connect also. Made sure the app is updated (iOS) but seems it's caught in a loop. Is the thing bricked? I reached out to Bond, and their very first response was "We'll replace it, send a receipt" but it was a gift over a year ago and I'm having zero luck getting a receipt. This was supposed to be an easy/inexpensive way to control 3 ceiling fans w/ lights via voice since it pairs nicely to Alexa living in the ecobee thermostat, but I may have to go a whole Zigbee (?) hard switch route and that really seems like overkill.
