Multiple hubs with one Lutron account?

    Posted: 26 May 2020 09:33 PM PDT

Hi All - I remembered looking at a recent reply to a post that mentioned it might be possible to have multiple hubs under the same Lutron account now. Am I mis-remembering or is this possible today now? I have one regular hub and was thinking about adding a pro hub too.

How can I share mutiple alexa-controlled smart bulbs over two Amazon accounts?

    Posted: 26 May 2020 09:13 PM PDT

tl;dr: how in the hell can I get my account such that I can see and control the common lights that only my roommate has full control of at this moment?

So, here's what I've got. In my home, we have three Echo Dots (gen 1). One is mine, one is my roommate's, and one is a community dot in our living room. We have separate accounts - having said she's my roommate, she's also a close friend and an "adopted sister".

Of late, I've taken a shining to installing smart lighting and went with Tuya bulbs. It works well in my bedroom, and recent installation works well in the Living room. But between our two accounts, we have this:

    • My account controls my bedroom lighting and the entry way to our apartment
    • Her account controls the living room lighting and the aforementioned entry way

(More bulbs are now appearing in an Amazon locker that's probably not near you. =D )

The overall objective is this: she controls and sees her bedroom (and I don't), I control and see my bedroom (and she doesn't), and we both control and see the common area lights (living room, kitchen, laundry, etc.) - and all can be done through any of the Echo Dots in the house. Finer details aren't important - if I can control devices, we can each group as needed to our individual ends.

So we have one common light we can control - the entry way. And I don't remember what we did to achieve that, but we can't reproduce for the living room lights - she sees them, I don't, but I can at least tell the community Dot to power them off.

This begs my question: how in the hell can I get my account such that I can see those lights she has full control of?

To note: I've chatted with Amazon support, but the only thing we can find is that this seems to require payment sharing - which to me simply does not seem relevant to this end. Nevertheless, we have that one light bulb - the entry way - and we can both control it.

Connect raspberry pi to Lift Master(garage door system)

    Posted: 26 May 2020 10:52 PM PDT

The lift master can be connected to the internet and can use their app to open/close th garage door. However, I'm planning to connect Raspberry pi and use that to remotely control the garage door.

I haven't checked yet but does the lift master system have some contacts on the top where the motor is to open and close the garage shutter? Any Pinout diagram? Is it a regular 3-5V dc contact to open/close the shutter? Thank you

Lutron motion sensor turns on itself and stays on?

    Posted: 26 May 2020 09:48 PM PDT

Moved into my house about a week ago, worked great until today. Now it's just turning on it's own and stays on. Covered the motion sensor to see if it was being too sensitive — nope, still being triggered on its own after manual off.

Any ideas? The only change I've made is mounting a wall decor piece on the opposing wall through my duct intake sheet metal ... not sure how that could be related to be honest.

Any ideas? Going to contact warranty.

I live in a flat. Is there any way I can integrate my entry buzzer with my smart home? [UK]

    Posted: 26 May 2020 12:10 PM PDT

I have a simple buzzer on the wall that has a button to open the main door and a handset to speak to. The handset doesn't work but that's neither here nor there as I don't really need it. The button outside is part of a panel so I can't modify this or put my own kind of doorbell or anything outside. This is the inside of the buzzer.

I am deaf and I can't hear the buzzer when I don't have my hearing aids in, which results in missing deliveries. The council are supposed to visit to help me with a flashing alerter for it but this has been delayed due to the Coronavirus. Obviously this will just be a dumb flasher and no smart features. I'd love something that can flash my Hue lights. I also use Amazon Echos including a Show but I don't see how they could be of use in this circumstance.

    Any ideas?

Nowadays keys must be wireless) I mounted PIR sensor indoor at entrance zone and connect it to EXIT button. Schematic changes: replace 16V capacitor to 25V, removed 10 ohm resistor near relay, and change logic from NC to NO. #DIY

Lutron Bridge Pro won't connect to my garage lights (for HA)

    Posted: 26 May 2020 06:55 PM PDT

They're still connected to my Wink. I tried setting them up in the Lutron App connected to my Bridge Pro, but no luck (I also tried resetting them).

What are my other options? Should I get another Bridge Pro (~$100) or replace the dimmers with something else? Zwave and a hub? There is a hard internet line as well as strong wifi in the (metal) garage.

    z-wave solution

    Posted: 26 May 2020 12:44 PM PDT

Almost done migrating from Wink. Apparently my migration was simpler than anticipated. Turns out, I really only needed Wink to control all of my house lights and my 2 smart deadbolts. The rest of my home automation was already controlled via alternate means. I ended up buying a Sengled Hub which took care of all my house lights. That just leaves the Z-wave smart deadbolts. I just need some z-wave controller that can tell me when the locks are locked/unlocked (status) and the ability to lock/unlock from my phone. I do not require Google Assistant or Alexa support. That is ALL I need it to do and the simpler the better. What are my best options for this?

    August Doorbell Pro Discontinued

    Posted: 26 May 2020 04:24 PM PDT

I was about to order it from amazon, and noticed it was no longer in main product menu on August website. I sent in a support request and they confirmed, end of life. August View is only option. I don't want a battery powered doorbell cam. Does any other doorbell cam allow you to trigger an august lock from the cam's app?

Does anyone have the Nest Outdoor IQ - is it worth the insane markup over the standard Nest Outdoor?

    Posted: 26 May 2020 10:26 AM PDT

I am looking at the standard outdoor cameras ($150) or the IQ version ($330).

$200 per camera markup is a lot, but I only need a few cameras - that being said I have been looking at the differences and they are marginal from what I can see.

    Nest Camera IQ:

    1) Has same resolution, except it has an increased sensor which is 4k. Your footage isn't recorded in 4k but when it detects motion it can zoom in without pixelating badly.

    2) the damn cable. My OCD hates this. The standard camera had the cable visible. Ugh. Not worth +$200 to hide it, but so ugly and annoying.

    3) IQ version has detection range of 50 Ft vs standard camera of 20ft.

    4) nest camera IQ comes with smart detection included but the standard gets that with the $6 a month sub, which I already have - so this is a wash.

The only real feature I think is actually beneficial is the detection range increase to 50ft, that's very handy.

With a second place being the 4k zoom when someone approaches your property should you need a 'mug shot' or to catch a license plate, it's not going to be a blur of pixels.

Now, the $200 question. Is that really worth $200?

Anyone have experience with both, do you regret buying the IQ version or not?

Note: i am in the nest eco system, so this isn't a post to discuss Nests pricing policy. I understand the pros and cons and it is not for everyone.

    Posted: 26 May 2020 08:11 AM PDT

I am a big fan of the Lutron Caseta switches, but I find that the limit of adding only 1 repeater is not sufficient. What other options do I have for a large spread-out home? The only deal-breaker is if there is any delay when using switches like normal "dumb" switches, there can be no delay.

    Posted: 26 May 2020 03:07 PM PDT

I am leaning towards z-wave, due to the ever-growing mesh it builds, but I am reading so many people talk about the small delay from pushing the switch to the light turning on and off. Any suggestions before I go dump a ton more money into this project? Thank you!

Roller blinds motor? There has to be a solution....?

    Posted: 26 May 2020 02:19 PM PDT

I am really really struggling to find a good solution for smart blinds...

Just moved into a brand new apartment and my windows are a drop of 250cm and was initially thinking about IKEA smart blinds (mainly because they are battery operated) but they only do them up to 195cm.

Ideally, I am looking for a battery operated smart roller blind motor. The closet I have came too is the SOMFY range. Battery operated TICK (https://www.somfy.co.uk/products/1003310/sonesse-ultra-30-wf-rts-li-ion).

I would eventually like to expose this to HomeKit via Home Assistant, and to even get somfy to talk to as least something- you gotta but the bridge priced at £299!!

So, am I missing anything. Is there a battery operated smart blind motor that I can expose to hone assistant? I don't mind a DIY solution.

Sliding Glass Door Bolt Position Detector?

    Posted: 26 May 2020 08:08 AM PDT

I've got one of these on each of two sliding glass doors ("doorwalls" for my fellow Michiganders).

My wife has a habit of not securing them before we sleep, and I prefer that we not get murdered during the night (or have our silverware stolen, I suppose). I'd also prefer not to trade in the wife.

They're mounted at the top of the door, so if I were to apply adhesive to a neodymium magnet on the end of the bolt, then the unsecured position should be able to engage a sensor.

I've considered a door/window sensor, but it seems that they're engaged on the long side, meaning that I'd have to rotate the sensor to be perpendicular to the frame. The sensors I've seen are rather long, and it would look stupid.

That, and I think battery life would suffer, as the contact would be normally closed instead of normally open.

I'd prefer wireless; Insteon, Z-Wave, or Honeywell-Ademco would be preferred. Anyone solve (or seen solved) a similar situation?

    Thanks!
