Posted: 23 Jun 2020 01:19 PM PDT Inductive Automation is bringing their industrial control software to the home. I am super excited about this, as I have been building my own home automation system using Ignition. I would use the following page for downloading the application, as the snapshot builds do not have maker built in yet. [link] [comments]

Under cabinet lighting - switched receptacles Posted: 23 Jun 2020 05:24 AM PDT In my kitchen, all of the under cabinet lighting are plugged into a number of receptacles mounted into the top cabinets throughout the kitchen, which are then controlled by a switch near the counter. The lights are all 2W G8 LED bulbs, and there are 12 in total. I wanted to replace the switch with a Caseta switch, and I looked and there were neutral wires in the switch box, so I swapped it out with a PD5-ANS. It seemed to work perfectly until at night that I noticed a steady very faint light coming from all 12 LEDs. In truth, it's a very cool "night light". But these bulbs aren't listed as dimmable. When I have had load issues with the PD5-ANS switches before, installing the LUT-MLC between the neutral wire and the load solved the problem. But in this situation all the loads are plugs... into receptacles. Where would I install the MLC? There isn't much space left in the switch box, and I'd rather not take apart the receptacle boxes. If the very faint light isn't bad for the bulb or fixture, even if it's an unintended activity, I don't mind keeping it as is. Suggestions welcome. [link] [comments]
Wired whole home audio- what do I have here? Posted: 23 Jun 2020 07:23 PM PDT Hey guys, Looking for help understanding my whole home audio system in my new (to me) house. I know I need an amp, and after a cursory review, I'd like to use a monoprice system but not sure I'm set up for it. It looks like there are 4 zones. Pics below [link] [comments]
Fast-working z-wave occupancy sensor? Posted: 23 Jun 2020 09:06 AM PDT I'm looking for an occupancy sensor that can respond quickly enough to turn on lights when I enter the room. I've trawled through the user reviews on Amazon and haven't yet been able to find a z-wave one that has proven reliable at doing this; where buyers have bought occupancy sensors for that reason it appears they just don't work quickly enough to be practical. I am using HA and specifically looking for one that does not need a controller such as a SmartThings Hub or Apple HomePod and is z-wave compatible. Battery power would be ideal but not sure if that's really a practical option if almost-instant response is the goal, as I think it might run down a battery too fast. Any recommendations? Thanks [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Jun 2020 07:37 PM PDT I have a Vornado that I LOVE but it's been making awful sounds for years ever since it was knocked over. While I'd love to just be able to plug a replacement model into a smart outlet, it uses button presses to adjust the settings, rather than a knob, meaning I have to manually set it every time I turn it on. Researching fans are kind of a tough game, so I thought I'd see if anybody has a tower fan situation they're using that they could suggest. [link] [comments]
It's here! It's here! Wyze Outdoor cam! (Sorta) Posted: 23 Jun 2020 12:54 PM PDT Wyze just announced their outdoor camera. Release is in 13 days Wireless -3 to 6 month battery life Weather proof Individual cam $40 Bundle ( cam and receiver) $50 It's essentially the original except wireless and weather proof, and PIR (see edit) Edit: As pointed out by breakfastbeerz The original uses pixel detection for motion, outdoors, that is practically useless. Any light breeze and a tree branch moves and it detects motion. The Outdoor version uses PIR instead, much better for outdoor use. [link] [comments]
Yale assure lock with Google home Posted: 23 Jun 2020 11:24 AM PDT I have Google home and nest doorbells. I don't currently have locks or security setup in my home. Has anyone had experience integrating nest security with the Yale Assure lock via August? Is that a bad ecosystem choice? Would I be better doing August for all of my security pieces and integrate the nest doorbells? Any feedback would be great, thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Jun 2020 03:24 PM PDT I want to put led strips around the top of my walls, though I don't want to look at the strips directly. Any ideas of the best way to diffuse the light? Mainly looking to diffuse it down, I've thought of maybe using drywall capping? Any other ideas? Also any good wifi controllers that are easily available? [link] [comments]
DIY smart thermostat for baseboard heaters? Posted: 23 Jun 2020 09:11 AM PDT Hi guys, I was looking in to getting a smart thermostat for my apartment, but the problem is that i need 6 of them for my place. I was wondering if anyone has found any good guides to DIY a few smart thermostats for 240V baseboard heaters. I tried looking around online, but didn't really find anything. I wanna get this setup without needing to spend ~100$ (I checked out Mysa thermostats and a few others) per room for each thermostat but also without risking it catching on fire by using any components that wont support the high voltage. Plus i feel it would be a cool little project. Any help or suggestions is appreciated! :) [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Jun 2020 11:56 AM PDT My family is in the process of purchasing a new home. We are just getting into the smart home thing and have decided that we want a smart lock on our front door. Our first thought was to buy a nest Yale lock however they are not available in Europe. So I'm turning towards reddit for advice. We want a lock that has a pin code mechanism that you can access from your phone and be able to change the combination while your away. It should also be able to have more than one pin code active at a time so you for example can assign guests a different code from your own. It would also be great if we could unlock the lock from our phone and give the smart lock commands from our google home. It would also be a great if it would for example send your phone a notification if you forgot to lock it and finally it needs to work in a European home. Thank you for your time I would really appreciate any advice. [link] [comments]
Smart Mailbox with Push Notification (PIR WIFI Motion Sensor) Posted: 23 Jun 2020 05:56 AM PDT Hey folks, I just want to share my simple solution for mailbox push notification with you. It doesn't require a hub, bridge, raspberry pie or anything like that. This is working with a fully standalone pir motion sensor. I made a short YouTube video, where you can see it in action: https://youtu.be/ImeVO4rxxFY I installed a small motion sensor inside my mailbox, which is powered by a battery and connects via wifi. So everytime someone opens the mailbox, I will receive a push notification on my smartphone. To let all other family members know about the mail arrival, my smartphone uses tasker and the plugin auto cast, to send a broadcast message to my Google Home Mini. You can get the motion sensor for about 15€ on ebay or 20€ on amazon. Just search for "tuya smart life motion pir wifi". Let me know what you think of this :) [link] [comments]
Experience with Clare Controls? Posted: 23 Jun 2020 11:44 AM PDT I'm about to move into a new construction and the builders offers a Clare Control package as part of purchase. However, the apps for the software have horrible reviews, and there is extremely limited information out there about them. I spoke with the installer and he said they're a great system but require a licensed installer to install or modify them, and they have a limited set of systems they integrate with, both "to ensure quality". This sets off red flags to me, as there's so many other easy to install systems out there I don't want to be locked in to one ecosystem with bad reviews, then have to pay someone every time I want to make a change. I'm considering just asking for a credit off it and running things through my Alexa. I'm planning on having the following connected devices: 1. Doorbell 2. Security system 3. Outdoor cameras 4. Amazon echo for music 5. Garage door opener 6. Possibly motorised blinds 7. Thermostat I'm concerned that sticking with one restrictive and expensive ecosystem won't be the best move here. Thanks for your input in advance. [link] [comments]
