Posted: 06 Jun 2020 03:56 AM PDT First, I know this isnt exactly home automation related but I feel like people on here would know what time talking about or at least my experience. I've got a nearly 3 year old. So bedtimes are... Interesting now. My current baby monitor does a job and detecting when there's noise that's loud. It's usually on sound off, so it vibrates and beeps when the sound is loud enough. I had an older one which worked well, but it started having connectivity issues. This one is better, but it's much more sensitive (even if it's set not be less sensitive) Problem: when shes going to bed, she just moves around, talks to her self, sings, thumps on the bed. This makes the sound monitor go off. Which is annoying as I'm trying to fall asleep. 2nd problem: at night she sometimes wakes up and cries for 5 to 10 seconds. She's fine. But it'll wake me up, and I check on her on the camera, she's already asleep. What I'm looking for: is there a smarter one out there? One that actually detects crying vs other sound. Or at least allows you set a variable that says, okay if you hear noise for like 15 to 30 seconds THEN let me know? Also, it specifically needs to be not an app. So a second receiver base. Unfortunately, just searching for smart baby monitors means cameras with motion and sound detection. Which.. is dumb cause those notifications are worse. Course kids move in their sleep and my current camera can hear a door closing and go off. Also, it's jammed with ads for every other monitor. Any smart mom's and dads out there find a good solution? Posted: 06 Jun 2020 03:18 AM PDT As the title suggests, I'm looking into merging 3 remotes into 1 remote. 1 remote is for the Sliding Gate, 1 is for one garage, and 1 is for another garage. The gate is a different brand to the garage motors. The garage motors are the same brand (Merlin), but are about 10-15 years apart in age and I haven't been able to configure both of them on the same remote. But overall, I'm looking to have all 3 functions on 1 remote. What should I look into, to make this possible? TIA [link] [comments]
Replacement side brushes for robotic vacuums? Posted: 06 Jun 2020 03:02 AM PDT I see a lot of replacement brushes for sale online for robotic vacuums but I don't see any for my exact model the [Excelvan robotic vacuum](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Excelvan-Robotic-Vacuum-Cleaner-TIMER/dp/B07VLXBD8Y). Can I buy any of these [replacement brushes](https://www.google.com/search?q=excelvan+robotic+vacuum+cleaner+brushes&sxsrf=ALeKk02ew46-Ck3LAN7L5mi48g9kJsph_w:1591437571258&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiSv_f49uzpAhU0tHEKHQWoACAQ_AUoAnoECAsQBA&biw=1272&bih=598) for the Excelvan? The [brushes it uses](https://www.google.com/search?q=excelvan+robotic+vacuum+cleaner+brushes&sxsrf=ALeKk02ew46-Ck3LAN7L5mi48g9kJsph_w:1591437571258&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiSv_f49uzpAhU0tHEKHQWoACAQ_AUoAnoECAsQBA&biw=1272&bih=598#imgrc=DSRuZPkLlFQPHM) aren't sold separately. Any advice would be a great help cheers! [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Jun 2020 08:03 PM PDT I have a Netgear router doing 99% of the WiFi work inside my home. We have several smart outlets, 1 Alexa dot & soon to be some smart plugs & bulbs - all outside near the carport. At this current time - i have a neargear WiFi extender(has 2 small antennas & plugs directly into a wall socket) handling all of those devices. I have the ability(and experience) to run some cat6 from the inside router to that outside location. Should i run some hardwiring & then just install a full WiFi router? Or should i keep my existing WiFi extender? Or should i run the copper, move the EXISTING router outside & buy a new wifi6 router for indoors? Note: weather is not a problem for these devices. Everything is far enough out of the rain... [link] [comments]
Create Alexa routine with Mi Camera Posted: 06 Jun 2020 01:12 AM PDT Long story short. I have a Mi Home Security Camera 360° and I want to create a routine on which the light turn on when camera detect a motion. The problem is that in the routine creation, in "When..." section, there is no option for my camera. Any ideas how I can make this work; The automation in Mi Home works, but I prefer alexa. How I can make my camera detect motion in Alexa; Any suggestion is acceptable. [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Jun 2020 02:19 AM PDT When you open up pandora's box, it sorta becomes a hobby. You have all of these new ideas circulating in your head that can make your home better and smarter but it comes with a price. One new item opens up several new possibilities and it's hard to resist the urge to go down that rabbit hole when you convinced yourself it'll make life better. When is it time to say enough is enough? What made you stop and say "okay, this is good, it's everything I ever wanted and I'll stop here"? Or have you never stopped? How much have you spent on your smart home and do you continue to spend? [link] [comments]
wall-mounted display: tablet vs raspberry pi touchscreen? Posted: 05 Jun 2020 09:27 PM PDT I'd like to install a in-wall dashboard for home assistant as well as IP camera display. I'm wondering what others think about the differences between an Android tablet vs. a Raspberry Pi touchscreen display? From both functionality and mechanical installation and aesthetics, is there an obvious best choice? I have access to run cables (power or HDMI and USB cables) behind the wall and into the basement. This is why a Raspberry Pi touchscreen display is even an option - I can mount the Pi in the basement for maintenance/heat dissipation, and run the USB/HDMI cables up to the touchscreen display. Stuff I'd like to display:
Android tablet seems like an obvious choice because I already use Home Assisant on Android as well as Tinycam. But I'm not sure it's easy to automate screens to do things like, for example, bring up particular camera view when motion detected in that area between 7PM and 6AM. I feel like I can do that with Linux. Display automation seems harder with Android? Another plus with the Raspberry Pi solution is no wireless. IP camera feeds can be fed via ethernet to the basement raspberry pi. Maybe someone has experience with screen automation on Android? [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Jun 2020 09:25 PM PDT I can't tell what's wrong here, or if Yale has just made it so only first party RFID devices now work? First I got confirmation that they use 13.56MHz from Yale themselves. I also found this thread which seemed to suggest that the lock should support MIFARE Classic 1K or 4K 4 byte NUID tags. Also multiple people in Amazon reviews say it works with the Yale keyless lock. One thing that does stand out is that most of the reviews which say it works (or websites) mention only the Yale Keyless Conexis version which is for old latch/"night latch" locks, and not Euro cylinder upvc doors. I have a Conexis L1, and after reading all this I decided to purchase these MIFARE Classic 4Ks, ten for £7 instead of two for £5, or worse two for £8. I like the the idea of using these non-Yale fobs because they're much more colourful, much stronger, and it's not obvious that they're for a smart lock. If I found one I'd bet on it being someones place of work. I also like the fact that you can buy blank cards and just print whatever on them. Yale's sticker is also really quite thick and just screams "I have a smart door", if it's on a phone someone would basically have your key and be able to possibly figure out where you live. Being able to print your favorite band, vim logo, picture of a SO etc over a thin RFID tag would be so much more attractive and obfuscated than the Yale ones. There are also some extra options like bracelets (which I considered buying a family member with an L1 who runs), or an implant which Yale don't have for obvious reasons. But my problem is that these fobs just don't register with the lock, when trying to register them the lock just ignores them. I tried them on my phone, and while they need to be held a bit closer, they still work. Here is how a Yale fob (obfuscated one) and one of the Amazon fobs were scanned: https://i.imgur.com/Zjd7LBE.png Everything looks pretty similar? Does anyone here have any experience? Are there ways to register them? If so how, also has if anyone has successfully done it which lock did you use? All the locks use the same keys from Yale, but people seem to be able to use 3rd party fobs with some locks but not others? If anyone in the UK has a Yale Keypad lock or similar I can send some of these ten (maybe) useless MIFAREs I have now, to test. Also if you do have it working, what firmware version and app version are you on? [link] [comments]
Teckin Light Bulbs - Flash firmware or external software? Posted: 05 Jun 2020 05:26 PM PDT Hi! I have two Teckin Smart Bulbs SB50 800lm. A few days ago Teckin dropped their IFTTT support which ruined all of my automation routines. Since then I've been thinking on using an external service o firmware flash to gain more control over my devices. I have never done something like this, as these are the only two smart devices I have. I have found the Tasmota project, and one or two github repos for controlling these lights (I think, they are poorly documented). Is there any known external software for controlling these lights? If possible, I would like to avoid the firmware option Thanks in advance [link] [comments]

How to reduce Samsung hub notifications Posted: 05 Jun 2020 08:26 PM PDT Hey guys, I'm pretty new to home automation, but recently I installed a multipurpose sensor on my garage door so I could know when it was opened. I set an automation in the smartthings app to send all members a notification when the door is opened. There are 3 members in the house and the problem I've run into is that if someone is home and using the door, the 2 other members keep receiving notifications. Is there a way to stop this from happening? [link] [comments]

Can't reconnect to my dimmer switch Posted: 05 Jun 2020 05:25 PM PDT I've upgraded my wifi router to Nest Wifi and all my smart devices controlled by Smart Life no longer connect. I'm in the process of reconnecting everything individually. My dimmer switches however, won't reset property (giving a blinking light) instead it's a solid red. I've held the reset button 10+ seconds and it always goes to solid red. It's a Martin Jerry dimmer switch: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FXYSVR1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_pYT2Eb3YV38BF I'm stumped. Any advice would be grateful. [link] [comments]
Defective Schlage Sense replaces with Encode under warranty Posted: 05 Jun 2020 04:42 PM PDT I had my Schlage Sense break under warranty. After making the claim with the company they sent out the wrong model, the Encode. Normally I'd send it back, but I'm a bit reluctant under the current climate. With the Sense I use it through HomeKit mostly with the most important feature being notifications when the door is opened (5 year old loves to bolt) and checking if someone left it unlocked when we are out. I'm assuming I can use the Schlage app to control these functions? In the past I've also had issues with the Bluetooth losing connection with my iPad, which has been a pain. Does anyone know if there will be anything I will have have issues with if I install this model? Thanks! [link] [comments]

Good Z-wave Bulbs or just use Zigbee Posted: 05 Jun 2020 02:36 PM PDT Are there any decent Z-wave bulbs? I got the monoprice RGB and not thrilled with it at all. Brightness is low and Home Assistant sees it, but the color/brightness adjustment does not seem to work as well as expected next to an LED of the same lumen value. Difficulty getting the brightness to match a 600 lumen bulb and color temp. I saw these Zigbee bulbs mentioned on Reddit. I am using the HUSBZB-1 Stick so they should work with it. I don't exactly need the RGB portion but I figured if I was buying a bulb might as well. Thoughts on the Sylvania or other bulb suggestions??? [link] [comments]
Master List of devices that are controlled locally. Posted: 05 Jun 2020 01:42 PM PDT Does anyone know of a "master list" of automation devices that would tell me if it a device can be controlled completely locally. Anyone had any integration issues with Nest Protect since WWN was killed by google? Posted: 05 Jun 2020 01:15 PM PDT I've got a SmartThings Hub setup, and the wife wants Carbon Monoxide + Smoke Detectors because we have gas supply to the kitchen, fireplace, laundry room, and water heater. I've heard some things about Nest Protect having integration issues since Google Killed the WWN program. Is there any sort of resolutions on that since? Or any alternative smart dual mode sensors? Is there a In-Line Thermostat for 240VAC with about 5400W of baseboard heaters? Posted: 05 Jun 2020 01:05 PM PDT I've looked at the small amount of results that come up for an In-Line thermostat (STELPRO), but I see that most of them cap out at 4000W. I have a room with 24ft of baseboards which (the internet says) typically draw 5400W. The baseboards are all in the same room too, so zoning them onto different thermostats doesn't really make sense. Alternatively, is there a 'clever' solution here, like a 6000W in-line switch that I can control remotely, and use a temp sensor to turn the system on/off? I'm planning on using a home assistant on a RasPi with a Z-Wave hub. [link] [comments]
WiFi connection monitoring? Looking for a solution. Posted: 05 Jun 2020 12:38 PM PDT Looking for something to monitor my WiFi connection and reset my router if it drops below a certain threshold. I found some plugs that monitor the connection, but just a yes/no. Anyone have any info? [link] [comments]
Smart fan or dumb fan with smart switch/bulbs? Posted: 05 Jun 2020 12:25 PM PDT I'm trying to sort this problem out. I'm in need of new ceiling fans throughout my house. My automation setup is in it's infancy, but I want to maintain the option to add smartness (motion sensor turns fan on, time turns fan on, Alexa turns fan on, etc.) to whatever I get over time (unless it's adequately smart from the get go, but "smart fans" are like $300+/fan). I also would like some amount of wall switch control over the fan if possible. I was considering the Ashby Park fans at Home Depot which are a mid-priced fan with a bunch of features (color temperature, speed, dimming), but I didn't see the them as being very automation friendly. So then I was thinking maybe I should look into a less featured fan and go smart with the controller/LED color bulbs rather than the fan itself being smart. How would you guys approach this setup?
