Lake Temperature - Automated Tweets Posted: 08 Jun 2020 04:40 PM PDT So this is a bit outside the "home" part of Home Automation... I am member to a quarry that is used for Scuba Diving. The number one question people are always texting, facebooking, calling, etc about is "what is the water temp?" I'd like to figure out a way to submerge a few thermometers at different depths and have the data posted somewhere for folks to see, I think tweeting it would be easiest. I've got a few ideas, such as this: https://avtech.com/Products/Sensors/Digital_Temperature_(100').htm.htm) coupled with might be part of the puzzle. Looking to see if anyone has done something like this before [link] [comments]
DIY WIFI septic tank alarm ideas Posted: 08 Jun 2020 05:29 PM PDT I am trying to find a DIY or reasonably cheap finished product to install on my existing septic tank alarm. The alarm itself consists of two LEDs: red and green. Any ideas for a WiFi device that I could connect to the red LED that will send me an email/push notification/phone call, etc. when that red light terminal is hot? [link] [comments]
What happened to zwave sirens? Posted: 08 Jun 2020 03:32 PM PDT they seem to be out of stock everywhere? amazon, best buy, walmart, etc... like, oddly so. The only place I am finding them is ebay and other sketchy looking sites, and even those are EU versions that will not work with US zwave sticks. [link] [comments]
Best IR blaster to control my tower fan? Posted: 08 Jun 2020 03:13 PM PDT I think it's an IR blaster I need? I'm new to this idea, so I'm not sure if that's what I'm looking for. The tower fan has a remote and I'm hoping to connect the fan to my Google Home setup with an IR blaster. What should I buy? Edit: It is indeed IR [link] [comments]
Eero Beacon Issues with Sensors Posted: 08 Jun 2020 08:33 PM PDT We have smart home devices (sensors and lights) from Ring, Phillips Hue, and Smartthings. None of these devices will connect to the Eero beacon in my garage, except for my Ring Floodlight camera (which I had to call into support in order to disable the 5GHz signal to get to work). When I take sensor devices I'm trying to use in my garage, fence, and shed into the house, they connect fine to the main Eero. In each of these locations, the Eero app shows a strong Wifi signal/connection. In addition, I confirmed my Amazon Alexa works fine in my garage. Also, I also have a Zwave tilt sensor on my garage door that is integrated with my Ring app. It works perfectly, despite not showing as a device in my Eero app. Eero support was no help. From searching around, it sounds like others have this problem, but there is no fix. Has anyone experienced this issue? Has anyone found a fix with Eero? If not with Eero, are there other solutions out there (eg. Next WiFi, Range extenders, etc). I really want to get my garage integrated into my Ring and Smartthings setup. Any help is appreciated! What’s your favorite leak/flood sensor compatible with smartthings and why? (Zwave proffered) Posted: 08 Jun 2020 11:36 AM PDT My AC stopped last night, I found the drip pan full of water and realized I had never thought of putting a flood sensor there... and since I've been wanting one for under the kitchen sink as well as the washing machine, I figured now is a good time to pull the trigger but I have no idea which ones are reliable or if some have features others don't Edit: just realized my title typo, preferred* [link] [comments]
What’s your favorite home automation system? Posted: 08 Jun 2020 07:41 PM PDT We are currently remodeling our entire home. Since all the walls are open down to the studs and we need new electrical everywhere, we are looking for suggestions on the most versatile and future proof automation system. We have apple devices for most things but also own some Microsoft computers. Or with is going to be multiple ubiquity access points and I would prefer to stay away from WiFi protocols because of potential overloaded networks. Any suggestions? I am very hands on so complexity should not be an issue. [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Jun 2020 11:25 PM PDT Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone could recommend some heavy duty smart plugs so i can hook up to my AC units at home to work on home assistant. I was going to use the 16A TECKIN ones but a friend of mine was using those and one of them burned out and risked starting a house fire, I'd rather play it safe but in also hoping not to break the bank, which I realize might be a bit much to ask. But if anyone can gimme some good recommendation I'd be happy to hear them! Thanks! [link] [comments]

Merkury 75w RBGW Bulbs and Tasmota Templates Posted: 08 Jun 2020 09:50 PM PDT I decided to pick up 2 2-packs on my last outing to Walmart as I have seen these thrown around in the IoT community and couldn't say no to cheap bulbs. Flashing them with Tuya Convert was as easy as ever and I thought I was home free knowing there were tons of templates for Tasmota. Boy was I wrong! Tried each and every one of them and the other decent ones were the SFY05/sm16716 base ones. Luckily for me, I bricked one allowing me to tear it down and trace the pins used. This resulted in this template {"NAME":"MI-BW210-999W","GPIO":[255,255,255,255,37,38,0,0,142,39,140,0,255],"FLAG":15,"BASE":69} Color selection, color temp (white to color), and brightness all work and it doesn't seem to need the sm16716 data on a GPIO. Any tips or suggestions for these bulbs would be appreciated as I do not believe that these template should work after everything I have searched the last 36 hours. [link] [comments]
Complete noob here - internet router question Posted: 08 Jun 2020 09:42 PM PDT I'm buying my first home (build will be done some time in August), finally leaving renting behind! Anyway, I plan to set up a number of smart home and security things. I plan to buy:
I also need to purchase a new internet router, and unfortunately AT&T has a monopoly on the housing addition (at least it's fiber). My question involves what kind of router to get. I've seen mentionings of Wifi 6, MU-MIMO, dual band (2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz), and some other features, but I see a lot of them say things like, "Connect up to 25 devices!" (or more). When it's all said and done, I'm looking at like 50+ different little gadgets that are all claiming need that 2.4 GHz signal. Does this mean I need a router that boasts connecting 50+ devices at once or are most of these smart things actually using Z-wave tech to connect to the Echo Studio or the Ring Alarm system and my router will only really see those few devices? I'm just a bit confused about what limitations my router might have to connect all of these things, if any. Or how to make sure this is all connected seamlessly to begin with... Is some kind of mesh network necessary for my size home? (2000 sq ft, somewhat small yard) If anyone can recommend a really solid router that can handle everything I need with some future-proofing, I'd appreciate that as well! Any other advice for a complete smart-noob is also most welcome. Thank you! [link] [comments]
Sanity check - adding a WEMO "dummy" switch to create a 3-way without wire. Posted: 08 Jun 2020 05:41 PM PDT I want to add a 3-way light set-up but ideally without running wire to the existing light / switch circuit from the new switch. If I replace the existing single switch with a WEMO, could I add a second WEMO that is powered, but has no load, to remotely trigger the first? Hope that makes sense... EDIT: Reading more, I think it might only work with a [link] [comments]
Nest & SmartThings (or anything else) Posted: 08 Jun 2020 03:17 PM PDT I know Works With Nest has been skuttled, but I was wondering if anyone had any sort of way to simply read the state of my Nest products and act on them.
All these are passed into Google Home so I was wondering if there was any way to pull the state of it from there. [link] [comments]
Assurelink network connectivity issue Posted: 08 Jun 2020 08:26 PM PDT Hi there, I've had a Craftsman garage door opener that came with the Assurelink connectivity hub for maybe 4-5 years, and it's worked great. A few months ago, the Assurelink hub stopped connecting to the internet, and the app shows that my opener has been offline for 96 days. (I did successfully use the MyQ app for a little while.) The blue light on the hub is steady, which I believe means that it's connecting to the opener. The green light is blinking, which means that it's gotten an IP address from my router, but can't connect to the internet. I have a TP-Link AC4000 wifi router that it's connected to, and I can see that it's been assigned an IP address (good), but I don't see anything odd about it from the router's perspective -- it's not blacklisted, it's not quarantined, nothing seems unusual. Everything else on the network seems to be fine. At this point, I figured maybe some bit of hardware failed and a brand new one is only $30, so I pick one up. As you've likely already guessed, same. exact. issue. So, anyone else seen this? My duckduckgo-fu has gotten me nowhere. Does anybody know what site or URL these phone home to? If I knew that, I could at least make sure it wasn't blocked somehow. The router does have some filtering based on Trend Micro's malicious sites DB, but I turned off all the filtering to run a test and it had no effect. I suppose it's possible that Spectrum has blocked it, but I can't tell without knowing the URL. [link] [comments]
Affordable yet effective home security measures? Posted: 08 Jun 2020 07:41 PM PDT I live in an apartment and want to install (removable since I'm renting) home security measures that are affordable. I've heard of door sensors, cameras, alarms, and even special locks if your front door is a standard door that anyone who had a key from the previous tenant can unlock. As a young student I really want things that WORK because I am worried about possible break-ins, stalking, assaults, etc. What are some items I can look into? [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Jun 2020 06:59 PM PDT I found that you don't need to say "ask delta" when controlling it with Alexa. I can control mine by saying "Alexa, dispense 2 cups from delta". Has anyone else discovered any other commands outside of the list? [link] [comments]
Dumb or Smart Lock that Locks after One Hour Posted: 08 Jun 2020 06:44 PM PDT I've been researching smart locks, and it seems like most of them only have options to lock within minutes of being unlocked. I want one that locks an hour after people use it, so that it's more or less only locking at night when people aren't going in and out. [link] [comments]

Dimmer with No Neutral = No ceiling fan? Posted: 08 Jun 2020 08:56 AM PDT I have a bunch of Lutron Caseta Wireless Dimmers, that I installed thanks to the wonderful folks here. It was winter when I started, and at the time got the idea that my ceiling fan would not be functioning, just the light would. Is that still the case? I don't want to pull the string and then the light starts blinking, or something worse. [link] [comments]

Seeking recommendations for reliable touch-less soap dispensers Posted: 08 Jun 2020 11:33 AM PDT Sorry if this is the wrong place, but I thought it fit best. Will delete if necessary Hoping someone has experience with a consumer use touchless soap dispenser, one for dish soap would be nice too. Would like to set some up around the house but everything on amazon looks so cheap, and the one I bought at a store wasn't even touchless because we still had to press a button to wake it up every time we wanted to hold out hand out for soap [link] [comments] |
