WiFi single pole, triple throw switch available? Posted: 22 Aug 2020 10:12 AM PDT Hello, I originally posted this on r/electricians and someone suggested I try this sub as well. I have a QuietCool whole house fan wired with a timer switch and a 2 speed speed (High, Low and OFF). I was hoping to replace that with a Wifi Switch of some sort. QuietCool offers a RF module which I don't want to use. Here is the how the switch and timer are currently wired: https://imgur.com/a/jYRQklh It was suggested that I go with something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B085HQJ3FW/ref=sspa_mw_detail_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The relays on this appear to be 10A, but I'm a little nervous using this since I tend to run the whole house fan for long periods of time so would prefer something that's "over engineered" (and in general, have some sort of UL listing; not sure if that's even done for a product where I would wire in the AC wires like this). Any suggestions? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Ethernet connected Power Relay? Posted: 22 Aug 2020 10:11 AM PDT I'm looking for a way to power cycle my cable modem, which seems to be more and more flaky these days. (I have Spectrum, and don't want to deal with asking for a new modem since I'm on a grandfathered plan.) I'd use a wifi-based outlet module but those are dependent upon internet connectivity. Is there any cheap pre-built wired relay available where I could just send a simple command to power cycle the router when the internet drops out? This seems to be a mostly non-existent market for this since everything out there connects to wifi. [link] [comments]
Cannot Get ESPHome to recognize my phone Posted: 22 Aug 2020 02:53 PM PDT I just got my ESP32S Board, flashed it, and am trying to use it with HA to detect my cellphone (and other bluetooth devices) but I'm not sure if I have the write configuration. In the .ymal file that's on the ESP board I have: esp32_ble_tracker: binary_sensor: - platform: ble_presence mac_address: <ESP BOARD MAC ADDRESS> name: "ESP32 BLE Tracker" sensor: - platform: ble_rssi mac_address: <PHONE MAC ADDRESS> name: "MyPhone" I got the MAC Addresses from what my router says they are. For some reason, my phone does show up in the logs. And in Lovelace it says, ESP BLE TRACKER is OFF and MyPhone is UNKNOWN I also set my phone to have a static IP address in my router. Here is the log: INFO Reading configuration /config/esphome/masternode.yaml... Shelly 1 + Dumb Doorbell, What am I doing wrong? Posted: 22 Aug 2020 07:24 PM PDT I thought this would be easier. OK. So I am trying to make my existing door bell smarter with a Shelly 1. Here is how I am trying to wire it https://imgur.com/a/k86zEZP. I have not connected any wires to the I or O ports on the Shelly since I only really want to trigger a MQTT message based on a button press, that I can handle otherwise. I also tried only having the negative wire from the doorbell go into the SW port but then the door bell did not receive power/illuminate. Any one else successfully accomplish this? Color Changing Light Bulbs for Circadian Rhythm? (With Alexa) Posted: 22 Aug 2020 09:38 AM PDT Hello, So I'm looking for some color changing bulbs that will work Alexa such that they will gradually get warmer as it gets closer to bed time - kind of like how f.lux works for your laptop screen. (I prefer RGB color changing bulbs rather than warm-to-cool bulbs, only because I'd like them to be full-on orange if I have to use them at night.) I did get some cheap color changing bulbs, but I'm not able to set up a routine such that the temperature of the color goes up gradually.... Using Alexa I can only dim/brighten the bulbs and change to static colors. Of course, I could set routines such that the lights will be orange at certain times, gold at others....but I don't want to use discrete colors. I want it to be gradual. Any recommendations? Thanks! I want to control my lights through AVR Posted: 22 Aug 2020 11:28 PM PDT Hello everyone. My home is automation using RTI. and I have yamaha AVR installed with 7.1 4 speaker system. My question is that is, it possible to operate my room lighting according to AVR status For example is I start paying something my lights will switch off automatically and when I pause or stop movie it should start lights again. Thank you [link] [comments]
Point of Kasa 3 way switch? (HS 210) Posted: 22 Aug 2020 06:37 AM PDT From what I've gathered from posts on here, if only one of the 2 switches is replaced with a single Kasa smart switch (hs 200), it will function properly. What is the purpose of the 3 way package (the hs210 kit that includes 2 switches). What functionality does that give, or is it just so things match? [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Aug 2020 11:55 AM PDT Anyone have experience with a self sufficient aquarium? It seems there's a lot of opportunity to automate. Looking for ideas related to; - temperature - lights - water level - feeding - cleaning - supplements [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Aug 2020 05:47 PM PDT The fan in one of my bathrooms is wired to the switch along with the lights, so that if the lights are on, so is the fan. I've planned to rewire it to a separate switch, but then I had a thought - what if I could put it on a smart plug instead? The fan itself has a regular 2-prong plug (hot and neutral, no ground) that plugs into the fan housing in the ceiling. I've searched and haven't found anything. Does anyone know of any 2-prong smart plugs? Preferably Zigbee or Zwave rather than WiFi, but I'll take what I can get. [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Aug 2020 09:01 PM PDT I know y'all will lovingly advise me to go with a local hub or something smart like that haha, but that's not in the cards for the moment. I've been using SmartThings for a few years, works fine with my Schlage, Lutrons, Harmony and Google Home. But I was just gifted a Wink Hub (pretty sure it's a Gen 1). Is there any reason/benefits to switch my setup over to that from ST? [link] [comments]
Need help deciding between to dealers offering 2 different automation systems (RTI vs C4) Posted: 22 Aug 2020 11:11 AM PDT Hello all - currently in the process of building our home and I've met with 2 dealers to assist in a home automation package (not much of a DIY'er). We have total home audio with Sonos, 4 TVs, Smart lighting, smart locks, smart/video security, smart thermostat and the potential add on of Lutron (or comparable) shades as well as backyard audio. Both vendors are pretty well rated in our area, but I was astounded by the price difference between their proposal. The first vendor uses RTI with ubiquiti networking with the second company using Control4 and Araknis. The first vendor is almost half the estimate of the second. When I asked the second vendor about how the first was running with RTI, he said he used to be a dealer and it was a terrible product. While I am not completely price sensitive, I begin to question whether or not the Control4 approach is worth double the price of RTI. Does anyone have perspective or an appreciation for what I should be considering between these two? Maybe some pro/cons? If it is helpful, I can link both proposals for context and for you guys to look at. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Can I create an automation to watch nzbget and run a file on download complete? Posted: 22 Aug 2020 04:32 PM PDT Heres the catch: HomeAssistant is on its own machine in a different room. NZBGet and the file i want to run are on the same machine, but the physical machine itself is separate of the HomeAssistant server if that makes a difference. I see with NZBGet I can trigger an automation upon download completion which is exactly what i'm looking for. When triggered, Id like to run a batch file. This is on a Windows 10 computer. Is there any way to make that file run? [link] [comments]
Cheap Modbus RTU over RS-485 interface with GPIO for wall switches and sensors? Posted: 22 Aug 2020 10:07 AM PDT Hey, I'm working on a home automation project where light switches should talk to the PLC via a bus (Modbus RTU over RS-485) and I can get compatible switches like this from China, however I would like to extend them with temperature and humidity sensors. Could you please suggest what would be the best solution for constructing such a switch myself with as much pre-made hardware as possible (I don't want to get into custom PCBs yet)? Essentially, I'm looking for a Modbus/RS-485 interface like this, only with a low-power chip that would act as a Modbus RTU slave and send information from analog inputs. Something like an Arduino Nano is obviously an option but also an expensive overkill. I need at least four IO channels and bonus points for compatibility with a 24V power supply. 3 way Wifi Switch with no neutral Posted: 22 Aug 2020 11:30 PM PDT Needing a smart switch for outdoor lighting. Have a switch in garage and one in living room but no neutrals. Want something to work with Google home and automate schedule. [link] [comments]
Smarthome Control Panel recommendation Posted: 22 Aug 2020 03:48 PM PDT I would like to add a central control panel to my parents' smarthome as an additional way to control or monitor things. Their devices are Hue, Tradfri, Reolink Argus and some smart life sensors. I just ordered an Echo Show 8, but I'm having doubts wether I'll like the interface to control the smart home as it has been described as cumbersome and it probably wont show me all information at once. My next thought was some sort of wall mounted tablet (maybe a cheap fire tablet or something?) so I can either have it split-screen display the Alexa App for device control and the Reolink App for Camera viewing. Or should I just go all out and chuck everything into home assistant, and just have that showing on the tablet? Problem is HA doesn't support Reolink...maybe get other RTSP cams? Any recommendations? Anyone have an Echo Show 8 and hate it? Also since its more for my parents than me, it should be as maintenance free as possible and I don't think that would be the case with HA... Do all smart plugs have an audible relay click? Posted: 22 Aug 2020 02:52 AM PDT I want a socket i can use in the bedroom at night - The only socket i've experienced has a pretty audible click when the relay switches. Are there any that don't click (and instread use a solid state relay)? I'd prefer not to run a long cable from elsewhere if i can help it though that is the obvious alternative. Thanks! edited for clarity [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Aug 2020 10:09 AM PDT I have a BTicino Smart Thermostat with humidity sensor and IFTTT compatibility. I also have a smart plug compatible with IFTTT connected to a fan that extracts air from a room to avoid humidity. Now the plug is working every hour automatically (based on a routine). I want to know if i can setup my thermostat with IFTTT so that the fan starts when the humidity is over (value)%... should it work? And then: i want to do this like every hour: it checks the humidity, if it's over the maximum it starts for 10minutes then it stops, the next hour same check (i don't want the fan to run like 24/24). Let me know if this setup could work or a cheap alternative (idk if an humidity sensor would work in the way i want) Thanks in advance [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Aug 2020 03:24 PM PDT All of my bulbs stopped connecting to the hub. I've reset the bulbs and the hub but none seem to connect back. Anyone have this issue before? Could it be a server outage or a bad hub? He hub shows as online in the app. Tia. [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Aug 2020 02:00 PM PDT Looking for a smart doorbell, preferably without cloud connectivity but with HomeKit integration (hopefully that's not too much of a contradiction). What fits the bill best I've found so far is either the Netatmo one bit that still isn't out over 1.5 years after it was announced, so any minute now? The other product I know of is the one by Robin, however with a 600€ pricetag that's a bit more rich than I'd prefer (and presumably twice the announced price of the Netatmo one). Does anyone know of any other products that'd fit the bill? [link] [comments]
Does a robot vacuum make sense for our house and, if so, which one? Posted: 22 Aug 2020 12:57 PM PDT We just purchased a house. It is all hardwood floors (dark, bamboo) with about 1800 square feet, and three levels. We have a Maine coon cat (long fur, sheds a lot, about 14-15 lbs) so there is always a ton of loose fur around, on top of the normal dirt/dust. We have been doing a lot of sweeping, dusting, and hard wood swiffer so far, but it seems hard to stay ahead of the mess. I'm curious if it makes sense to add a robot vacuum to our cleaning setup and, if so, which one. Ideally, I would love to know my options at more than one price point, if there are options. If only one option makes sense, that's fine too! Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
