Zwave toggle light switches and double taping switch

    Posted: 10 Sep 2020 02:14 PM PDT

I am looking at adding some Zwave toggle wall switches around the house. Some of the switches I would like to have a "double tap" feature where if I double tap up/down it does something different in my HA software than a single tap. However, I am thinking some brands of switches might now allow me to implement this feature. I (think) my questions are:

Will all brands send out two zwave messages when double tapped? (or maybe some other message that can be picked up by HA software)
Is anyone already doing this, what brand switches are you using? How do you detect a double tap?
Will the switch always implement the single tap functionality when double tapped? For example if the light is off and it is double tapped up can I prevent the light from being turned on? (Obviously I could turn it off through the HA script, but will the switch have already turned it on for the brief moment before getting an off command from the double tap script?)

Anything I am overlooking? I've seen posts on here about other people doing similar things (for example to turn off all lights in the house or to arm alarm systems). I am hoping to implement it to turn on specific lights depending on double or single tap (the other light is on a zwave outlet).

I am installing a Lutron Caseta 3-way light. Do I need to also replace the second switch?

    Posted: 10 Sep 2020 10:01 PM PDT

I bought the Caseta 3-way with Pico remote. My question is it absolutely necessary to install the Pico on the second switch? I'm partially lazy but I also would like to put the Pico remote elsewhere.

Are there any issues with not replacing the second switch?

Smart Humidity Sensor and Switch in 1?

    Posted: 10 Sep 2020 06:14 PM PDT

Does this exist? I'm looking for a smart switch (z-wave preferrably) that has a humidity sensor integrated into it. Something like this, but smart... https://www.amazon.com/Leviton-IPHS5-1LW-Humidity-Sensor-Control/dp/B00H3QQD64/ref=sr_1_3?crid=18M1Y25L7WT0G&dchild=1&keywords=zwave+humidity+switch&qid=1599786455&sprefix=zwave+humidity+sw%2Caps%2C168&sr=8-3)

    Smart control panel

    Posted: 10 Sep 2020 09:47 PM PDT

New to smart home and home automation. Trying to start a control panel so that my wife and kids can use with action tiles but many of my devices are not in Smartthings. Is there a way to add any device to Smartthings so I can have a single point of use to control everything in the panel or using Alexa? Trying to also access on the go from either iOS or android. Below are the devices I have so far that I am I'm trying to integrate. I will be setting up a fire hd tablet with android as my control panel.

Eufy battery doorbell, Lutron Caseta switch, Smartthings hub, Wyze cam pan, Meross outlet, Gosund power strip, Govee light strip, U-Tec Ultraloq pro, Sengled bulb, Nest thermostat , echo dot, fire stick

    Wemo dimmer and Harmony hub

    Posted: 10 Sep 2020 07:39 PM PDT

I just bought a harmony hub with remote and I'm trying to connect my wemo dimmer to the remote light buttons. Not seeing any options for this and the searches out there lead me to it's not able too. Seems odd to not be able to do this. I have the lights connected to Apple home kit but prefer a button on remote vs Siri command. Any direction would be appreciated.

Doorbell compatible with smartthings, ideally z-wave/zigbee with video optional

    Posted: 10 Sep 2020 10:21 AM PDT

I had a smartthings button taped to the side of my door for a long time but the battery died on me in just about 8 months and it continuously falls off as the tape isn't really meant for outdoors. Echo speaks has been disabled so that no longer works either.

Is there a better solution here that isn't hyper expensive? I'm considering just giving up and getting a ring doorbell. I already have a blink camera setup which works great, so the video portion of the doorbell would be redundant.

Physical dimmer switch for non dimmable (app only) smart bulbs?

    Posted: 10 Sep 2020 04:10 PM PDT

Been testing out some of the Teckin smart bulbs which like most, if not all to my knowledge, are only dimmable via smart control and not a physical switch. I see there are number of smart switch options out there that I could set so I don't run into a conflict when trying to control of on/off via an app or the physical switch but wondering if there is anything that could also control smart bulb dimming levels?
Perhaps a Z-wave switch on my Vera or Smarthub wit the proper scenes/routines? Appreciate any advice on the best solutions for maintaining physical switch control of smart bulbs. Thanks.

    Multi-zone audio receiver

    Posted: 10 Sep 2020 06:19 PM PDT

Hey everyone! I'm looking for recommendations on multi zone recievers that will integrate into Google home or home assistant.
I'm currently lookkng at an onkyo696

Essentially I would like to tell google "play music in living room" and the receiver automatically changes the zone to the living room and plays music.

Is this possible with existing tech?

    TIA

Shelly Dimmer with Single pole double throw switch, will it register as 2 buttons

    Posted: 10 Sep 2020 10:19 AM PDT

I was just wondering if I could use a single pole dual throw momentary switch with a shelly dimmer and have the two throws actually identified as two separate button presses, or if a double pole switch would be required. Specifically, I wanted to use this switch ( https://www.leviton.com/en/products/5657-2w ) or something similar and have the up press and down press identified as two sperate events in Shelly

    Best robovac for multilevel home?

    Posted: 10 Sep 2020 12:34 PM PDT

Around 1800 sq. Top level is bedroom small transition area to home office. Hardwood floor with area rugs. Mid level is kitchen, family room , dining room, one area rug, hardwood floors. Third level is living room and another guest bedroom (no need to get vaccum to guest bedroom), all hardwood floor

My guess is i will carry this from the base, mapping is probs useless because i have to change to different level?

Best robovac that's cheap? Thinking about Eufy S11, is Robovac like S5 that much better?

Can I make HTTP POST or GET request using Google Home routines or Google Assistant?

    Posted: 10 Sep 2020 09:50 AM PDT

I want to expose some webhooks from my HA to Google Home as routines but I don't want to go through the entire route of fully integrating Google Assistant.

My thinking is that I can simply add a couple of POST request to Google home via HA or GET request via nodered with the HTTP in endpoint.

Is Google Home / Google assistant capable of making HTTP POST or GET requests?

Alternatives to Google WiFi -> IFTTT integration?

    Posted: 10 Sep 2020 12:15 PM PDT

With IFTTT going Pro (I actually opted in at $3/month), I'm looking for alternatives, just in case.

The big one is being able to react to certain devices connecting to or disconnecting from my Google Wifi network. I have six people coming and going, with a mix of iPhone and Android devices. I use IFTTT to fire off various "someone arrived at home" and "someone left home" Webcore pistons when those devices connect/disconnect from Google WiFi.

Zapier doesn't offer Google WiFi connectivity, nor does SmartThings directly. Anybody know of other options?

    Removing overlay from Wansview W4

    Posted: 10 Sep 2020 11:44 AM PDT

    Hey Guys,

I'm using 4 x W4 cameras exclusively through the RTSP streams into a Blue Iris PC. The cameras seem to add their own overlay in the top right and I was wondering if there was a way to remove it? Cant see anything in the settings. I wondered if there was an argument I could add at the end of the RTSP URL to remove it?

Currently my RTSP Stream looks something this... HTTP://user:pass@<ipaddress>:554/live/ch0

Anyone know if I can do anything to remove the overlay so I can add custom ones in Blue Iris.

Simplest way to dim Treatlife Smart Dimmer on a schedule? I have Alexa & Google Home & am a programmer.

    Posted: 10 Sep 2020 05:33 AM PDT

I'm pretty new to home automation, except that I've got Echoes and a Google Home and I use them for reminders and stuff. I tried Domoticz like 7 years ago to try to control a Z-Wave dimmer with a Z-Wave dongle and I hated the environment and its unreliability so never used it.

I only have the one smart device at the moment, the dimmer, aside from my Echoes and Google Home. The exact device is https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YKGMXDM and it works fine with Alexa right now. I can just say "Alexa light 50/on/off" and it'll set it.

What I want to do is, set the max brightness throughout the day according to a schedule. So the logic would be something like:

IF Dimmer is ON at TIME or switched ON after TIME, set Dimmer to PERCENT.

It would probably have to be split up into separate checks and whatnot depending on the language and environment, but that's the gist of it.

I have an Ubuntu Linux box I use for a NAS and some other apps, where I can install a home automation suite of some sort, but I really don't want to set up an entire virtual device or big virtual environment with 15 libraries and daemons all precariously kludged together. Ideally, I'd download a single library and put a signed key or my Alexa credentials into a config file and write my script. But, I figure it's probably not that easy.

I'm comfortable in many programming languages, and I can teach myself enough of a new one to accomplish this task. If possible, I just want the simplest, most straightforward way to do it. To me, writing a script is simpler than clicking through a phone app to set up a lot of IF THEN logic with visual blocks.

    Thanks.

Place to see Smart Home Deals?

    Posted: 10 Sep 2020 09:26 AM PDT

I'm working on a project to go from no smart home to a fully outfitted smart home, but it's going to take a lot of money. I'm looking for a site or a twitter account or something that posts deals and sales on smart home stuff so that I can slowly pick things up over time when they are on sale. Anyone know of something?

Best replacement for Leviton home automation system? (Especially thermostats)

    Posted: 10 Sep 2020 09:26 AM PDT

The last 6 months have been nothing short of a nightmare using a Leviton OmniPro IIe thermostat with my home automation system....

This week both tstats grew minds of their own and randomly turned on/off hold mode, change temperatures, and change the preset screen backlight colors!

I've had trouble finding compatible thermostats to use instead of Leviton thermostats.

I have 2 nests buried in my garage that I might try out to see if they are compatible.

    Any ideas?

WiFi equipped garage door openers - connecting to WiFi and “mixing” makes?

    Posted: 10 Sep 2020 09:17 AM PDT

Hi All, new to this sub, I hope this sort of question is OK to post here. New to us home, I got a shop (woohoo!) The shop has two Liftmaster door openers with WiFi. The garage attached to the home has a Craftsman GDO, also with WiFi. I have two conundrums with this arrangement.

First, the shop is just far enough from the house that the two Liftmaster GDOs can't/don't consistently communicate with the WiFi router in the house. I have a WiFi extender in the room nearest the shop, but that's not enough to make things work consistently. I'm hoping to stay relatively inexpensive for this, so even though I'm a bit of a techie, I'd prefer to not spend bigger bucks on a fancy mesh setup if I can avoid it. I know there are powerline extenders, I'm not sure how well those work.

Second, I've installed the Liftmaster myQ app on my phone, and the App intermittently operates the GDOs in the shop. Looking at the units, the Liftmaster and Craftsman units appear to be manufactured by the same company. But I cannot figure out how to add the Craftsman unit to the myQ app.

Suggestions or wisdom on either matter would be appreciated - thanks in advance!
