Chamberlain MyQ garage door opener appears to have a local API. Anyone have any details? Posted: 04 Sep 2020 10:51 AM PDT After performing an nmap scan of my new Chamberlain Liftmaster garage door opener, it appears that it runs a local web server to run a small rest API. I did some searching and McAfee has a brief mention of it on their blog when talking about the MyQ bridge. Using an example from the blog, accessing http://<ipaddr>/sys/ gives back a json blob containing MAC address, SSID, and IP/network information. So I'm curious if anyone has any more details as far as what commands are supported by the local API? It's probably only used when initially setting up the device via the mobile app, but I'd still be curious to explore it and see if there are any control or status commands for the door itself. Outdoor WiFi MQTT switch for 1HP (~1000w) motor Posted: 04 Sep 2020 02:43 PM PDT I've been looking all over for an outdoor outlet or extension cord of some sort (something like this, but with MQTT support: https://www.amazon.com/Waterproof-Compatible-Assistant-Required-MP22W/dp/B07X52W1J8 )that I can plug a 1HP electric motor into and control with MQTT (using NodeRed and HomeAssistant). Any thoughts? [link] [comments]
help a girl in a DV situation with some smart doorbells Posted: 04 Sep 2020 09:07 PM PDT Hey all, The tl;dr is that I ended an abusive relationship nearly a year ago. Unfortunately, we live in the same small apartment building. It's recently escalated (we're broken up!) and while it's been recommended I get a restraining order, I do need to protect myself. Most recently, he made false accusations to our landlord that nearly got me evicted -- I was only able to prove where I was because I was hanging out with two other neighbors, or otherwise, this would have been awful. I am worried about next time, so I want to get some sort of device that will help - I imagine a smart doorbell serves that purpose. I need one fairly low tech, nothing fancy -- I have a preference to not be tied into something owned by Amazon, but other than that, I don't mind about much of anything else. Any recommendations? I live in a building with a shared hallway, but only one other person is on my floor and the building is indoors, if it matters. Thanks for the help, its appreciated! [Power Consumption] Sonoff vs Shelly Posted: 04 Sep 2020 02:25 PM PDT Rested/Idle power usage is a big part of my decision making process as well as ability to measure power and feed the data to HASS. I currently only considered Sonoff POW2 but it seems that the Shelly 2.5D may win on all accounts. Anyone know where to find info about rested/idle and load power usage of these switches? Any any pros/cons of sonoff vs shelly? [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Sep 2020 04:25 PM PDT I purchased the following for a new home network a few months ago, and I'm really excited to finally get everything hooked up tomorrow:
I also purchased a Raspberry Pi 4 with the necessary components to host Home Assistant on it, as I have a few Smart Home products already, and plan to buy more down the road. All the videos I've seen about initial setup for a UniFi network either have a UniFi Cloud Key, or have Home Assistant configured with the UniFi software. Right now, I'm running the "as-is" network that my ISP provided (AT&T Fiber). That is, I'm using their router, their settings, etc. Nothing has been changed since the technician initially came out and installed everything. With that in mind, should I go ahead and configure Home Assistant on the Raspberry Pi using my current network tonight, so it's available whenever I need it for the UniFi setup tomorrow, then migrate it over to the new UniFi network after the fact? Or is there another way I should approach configuring the UniFi network settings? Sorry for the lengthy post, just wanna make sure all my bases are covered for someone who might be able to help me out. Feel free to ask any questions about my current/planned setup, and thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
Xiaomi smart switch with built in Bluetooth gateway Posted: 04 Sep 2020 10:23 PM PDT I saw this recent product, which pairs their smart switch with xiaomi Bluetooth devices. I'm getting some xiaomi bt sensors. The old smart switches were either wifi or Zigbee. They were both advertised as working with Google home. The new one looks like just replacing Zigbee with Bluetooth. It adds 2 usb ports. It seems you can control the ports and plug separately via the Mi Home app. But the Google icon is gone. There seems to be no review of this one. Has anyone used it? It would be crap to not control via Google. [link] [comments]
Open-source solutions? Where to start? Posted: 04 Sep 2020 09:20 PM PDT I have always wanted to use Philip Hues to automate lighting, but I want to avoid using proprietary app/interface/hardware for privacy/security reasons (e.g. Google Home, Amazon Alexa, etc.). Are there any open-source alternatives or at least more privacy-oriented options available? Any home automation technology should IMO never have access to the open internet to phone home. At the moment, I'm looking to simply control a lamp on the other side of the room from my computer via a script. I believe a smart light bulb is what I want, but I am also curious of any comprehensive solutions or suites that are built on open-source philosophy. I would also like to control the hue of the light and turn on/off or enable/disable power strips to turn on/off multiple AC-powered devices at once. Any suggestions are much appreciated. As you can tell, I'm new to the home automation game and don't even know half its potential. I am currently running Linux on my desktop and on a Raspberry Pi server. Pairing a Decora scene controller for Shelly dimmer or RGBW Posted: 04 Sep 2020 08:13 PM PDT I like the idea of uncoupling the human interface from the dimming controller, but what are the best options for controlling the dimmers including a possible scene controller? Australian ducted air con smart control Posted: 04 Sep 2020 01:38 AM PDT I'm in the process of building a home and would like to see if anyone has any experience with either the izone or myair interface or even, any input comparing them? Thank you [link] [comments]
Weather resistant motion detector (battery powered) with TTL input? Posted: 04 Sep 2020 12:08 PM PDT I did some searching but coming up empty here. I'm just looking for a wireless PIR that is weather proof and has a receiver that can generate a simple 5V high/low suitable for a arduino/raspi, serial or even a higher level programing api (webhook etc) actually would be ideal. Bonus if it supports multiple PIRs [link] [comments]

Replacing X10 for something more reliable. Posted: 04 Sep 2020 04:55 PM PDT Hi, I have on my master bedroom an X10 wall switch and remote that control 3 zones. I want to get rid of it and I'm wondering if the Phillips Hue starter kit would work. My 3 zones consist 4 ceiling light canisters - 1 zone 1 ceiling reading light canister - 1 zone 1 ceiling reading light canister - 1 zone If Phillips is not the best solution, what would you recommend? My X10 is acting weird. The wall switch is fine but the remote is not working any longer and LED bulbs won't work well with it. I'm just tired of it and want to update it to something more reliable. Thanks for any feedback. [link] [comments]

What are my affordable options for whole home audio besides echos or Sonos Posted: 04 Sep 2020 11:17 AM PDT I have a bunch of echos through my house for wireless audio. The speakers overall are okay... but I'd ideally like something a little better. I know there is Sonos, but I'm not trying to spend thousands. We originally went with echos because we could use Spotify and pandora without using a separate device which is what we want to continue to do. Do I have any options? SmartThing Routine Migrated from Classic APP Android Posted: 04 Sep 2020 10:39 AM PDT Warning Long post / story. Need to explain in detail the issues. I had a bunch of routines set up in the smartthing classic app and when I got the notice that they the classic app would not work soon (I knew it was coming) I decided to just get it over with and migrate my routines. After migrating I checked them briefly in the other app and at first glance looked correct. I had a routine setup so that when everyone left (I setup mine and my wifes phone as through classic app mobile presence sensor) and we have been away for over 10 minutes it would change mode to away. I checked the classic app and noticed that the hub still showed as home even though it did show both of our phones were gone over 10 minutes. I check the new app and fixed a few permissions so that it could always get our location and saw that it created another mobile presense sensor. To make sure I added both instances of the phones 2 for each. After I saved it ran the away automation for away running my away secene(formely away routine). TlDR:I migrated routines from smartthings classic app on Android to the new smartthings app and some of the routines from classic app now split into automation and secenes (new app term) are not propery automating. Can I control an RGBWW LED strip with the Shelly RGBW2? Posted: 04 Sep 2020 09:26 AM PDT I have a RGB+CCT LED strip and I'm trying to find a way to contol it. So far the best way I have found is the RGBW2 but on the website it doesn't say wether it can handle that type of strips. Can it do it? Is there a better way to contol them? I plan to use them with home assistant. [link] [comments]
Looking for DC powered Zigbee/Z-Wave motorized shades Posted: 04 Sep 2020 07:32 AM PDT I'm working with a builder to build my house and I'm considering adding 16/2 cable or CAT5 for prewire to motorize the rolling blinds in the house. My idea is that I would install these after closing on the house, but was looking for recommendations on which model might be best that uses DC power and offers either Zigbee or Z-Wave connectivity. Automating remote-controlled window blinds Posted: 04 Sep 2020 08:43 AM PDT We're buying motorized window blinds for our new home, that come with a remote controller. If we would like to automate those so that we could operate from our android phones and potentially using Alexa, would it be possible to add a hub or some other product that will allow us to do so? I've seen a logitech hub on Amazon that supposedly can be operated from a phone or Alexa and operate various devices, but I'm not sure it really does what I need so would appreciate any feedback or pointers to products that will do this.
