Smart thermostat that uses the sensors I ALREADY HAVE?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 05:06 PM PDT

Hello, as the title suggests I am wondering if there is smart thermostat like nest/ecobee which use proprietary sensors, that will utilize the sensors that report temperature/ movement that I already have in place.

Edit: I use smart things with zwave/zigbee motion and door sensors that report temperature

Professional Grade Self managed System ?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 05:52 PM PDT

I've been going through the Lutron Level 1 class to try and get the software to run RadioRA 2. Im almost done, and something keeps bugging me that this all feels very antiquated and needlessly expensive and complicated. I really want a profession grade / scalable, customizable and stable system that I can self manage. Im hesitant on Zigbee or Zwave because it feels like there are a lot of products that could be vulnerable to updates or they come and go too quickly leaving me with stuff not working 1/2 the time. Any suggestions?

Sengled Hub not connecting on new network

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 05:11 PM PDT

    Hey all!

So I've had my singled for about 3 years now and it's been great but I just moved to a brand new place and the hub will not connect what so ever. I have it on the 2.4Ghz Signal and have done a factory rest on the hub twice now.

I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong. I've read through the help guide and tried everything in there. Still nothing. If anyone has any suggestions I'm up to hear them. Thanks in advance!

Any suggestions for deadbolt on old house?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 05:46 PM PDT

I'm moving into a new place and the door locks are ancient (has a key that looks like something out of Pirates of the Caribbean). I know nothing of smart devices besides my few Alexa enabled 120v relays.

Are there any deadbolt locks that people can recommend me?

    GE Zwave Switch

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 03:44 PM PDT

Adding a ge zwave switch to for my pool light (the light in the water). The normal switch is connected to a GI which is getting its power from the breaker. When I add the smart switch it trips the breaker turning off the switch and the plug for the GI. How do I add the smart switch and keep my pool safe/connected to power?

How easy it is to replace and existing doorbell and changing back to the original doorbell after that?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 04:14 PM PDT

How simple it is to install a google nest hello replacing an existing doorbell and replacing the original one back after a while? Asking this because I am renting my place and will probably leave the place in 1 year or so. Since the place already have a doorbell, I was thinking about replacing it with a google nest hello and putting the original one back before I move out.

Lowe's Iris / Whirlpool Water Softener - anyone figure out how to connect to it now that Iris is dead, or disable the Wi-Fi?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 09:57 PM PDT

It's constantly connecting and disconnecting to my WiFi (which causes minor performance issues) so I really just want to shut off the smart features if I can't use them.

I may just have to open it up and try to figure out where the antenna is and snip it or fry the radio chip. I am paranoid that this could kill the whole device tho...

    Getting started with livingroom+kitchen

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 09:04 PM PDT

I've been keeping an eye on this subreddit for the past year and I've seen a few projects that id like to do in my house but I've never had the time to really tackle any of this yet. Well my time has come. My wife it talking about updating our main floor kitchen and livingroom and I would like to replace my lights with pot lights and do under-cabinet lighting. I would love to have a setup where I can change the warmth of the lights in my kitchen and livingroom. I've had a few friends who've got a few smart bulbs and such and recommend Phillips, but none of them have the setups like this community.

I am thinking my ideal setup is to have smart lights so I can control the lights if needed, and have those controled by a smart switch so that they don't actually lose power.

Whats the best way to start going about this?

    Replacement for Wink

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 08:49 PM PDT

Is SmartThings hub the best option to replace Wink? I've got two Z Wave devices that I can no longer control by voice since they switched to a subscription service. Thx!

    Disable Ring doorbell temporarily?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 11:39 PM PDT

Hi there! Hoping someone can help me.

The person I live with has installed a video Ring doorbell with video motion sensor. He has not added me to the service, so I don't get the videos.

I want to temporarily be able to disable him getting videos when I have people over to visit and wish to maintain privacy.

I've read that I can turn the wifi off and that will work. But will that just save the videos and then send them to him once I turn the wifi back on?

    Is there a better way?

Setting up Ecobee thermostat - might have shorted something out?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 04:50 PM PDT

I tried to install a new Ecobee thermostat and I'm worried I shorted something out. I had the power off at the breaker box, but when I was drilling the new mount to the wall, the drill bit touched a wire and there was a spark. I continued (a lot more carefully) and got everything wired but it seems there's no power getting to the Ecobee.

I tried putting the old thermostat back to make sure it wasn't just a dead unit but the old thermostat isn't getting power either. Did I short something out? If so, how do I figure out what?

Sharp tools.io Multiple Attributes on Tile

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 01:09 PM PDT

I am monitoring a SmartThings Multi Purpose Sensor in my garage and using Sharptools.io for my dashboard. I am trying to figure if I can have 3 attributes showing on a 1x1 tile? I would like to see the contact sensor status in the center, and the battery life and temp as attributes in the bottom right and left corners. I can do 1 corner but not both. Is this possible?

Switchbot garage door opening \ closing options

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 04:22 PM PDT

I bought a switchbot on Prime day because it was on sale. I decided to put it near the button on my garage door. It works fine via control from my phone. But, I want to integrate it with my Alexa / SmartTthings setup. I know I need to get the hub (which is $40).

I already have a sensor on the garage door that works as well. I can ask Alexa "Is the garage door open" and she will respond.

I want it to be smart though. I would like to say "Open the garage door" and it checks to see if it is open and then opens it and then the other way. Is there a way to do that with what I have in place already? Or should I return the switchbot and get something else?

Is there a way to trigger a smart device with an email

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 01:43 PM PDT

Hi, I would like the ability to trigger an event when I receive an email on my gmail account from a specific sender or under a specific tag, you used to be able to do this with IFTTT but gmail support was greatly reduced. Is there another way to do it?

Making a double light switch smart with Shelly. But which one?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 10:49 AM PDT

I just got a new house which has a double light switch in the livingroom. I never use the ceiling light because I prefer light from sources like desk or wall lights (controlled by Zigbee). So I want to make my double light switch smart with a Shelly in detached mode, meaning it just sends out an MQTT message on button actions. I will let Home Assistant deal with the rest.

My question is: which Shelly do I need for this use case? I don't have a neutral wire in this lightbox (picture). I was thinking about the Shelly 2.5, without connecting the output 1 & 2 and obviously without the missing neutral. Would that work? Or is there a better choise? I don't have a lot of knowledge when it comes to this, so I'm hoping for some solid tips in layman's terms.

Lutron Caseta + Google Home, turn on to last dimmer setting?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 04:53 PM PDT

I just got a Lutron Caseta bridge and dimmer hooked up, and am struggling to figure out why it's behaving differetly than all the other dimmable lights and switches connected to my Google Home. With my Philips Hue and generic Z-Wave dimmer switches, the dimmer setting is preserved (turning 'off' and 'on' again keeps the same dimmer setting)-- but with the Caseta the dimmer setting seems to be lost with any 'off' or 'on' command, and they always turn on to full brightness. How can I get the Caseta switch to return to it's previous dimmer setting instead of full brightness?

Here are screenshots of the initial, 'lights off,' and 'lights on' states as shown on the Google Home app: https://imgur.com/a/1yKh9uu

Which WIFI System for Smarthome (budget~500€)?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 03:41 AM PDT

I am currently building a Smarthome for about 250 square meters on 2 levels. Most devices will be connected via WIFI. There will be 10 cameras, around 80 IoT devices and personal devices of 4 people connected with high bandwidth. There will be a server and NVR. The house has Cat6 cable throughout and a symmetrical 600Mbps Internet connection.

I am currently in the process of choosing the right WIFI system (budget ~500€)

I had considered Ubiquiti so far, but I'm not sure which one of the routers and switches in addition to the APs i need... Especially since these would also exceed the budget? Unfortunately there are a lot of products at Ubiquiti and I don't really know which one to choose... My previous assumption would be 3 APs with the option to add 2 more for outside. So I would need at least 5x PoE. And at least 3xGbp Lan for the Servers and a Workstation.

What would you recommend for such a setup? It does not necessarily have to be ubiquiti.

    Carrier 3-stage thermostat support?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 11:02 AM PDT

Does anyone know of a smart thermostat that supports Carrier's proprietary 3-stage signaling? Nest doesn't. I'd prefer something that works with Google Assistant, I have no Apple or Amazon stuff in my house.

I know the Carrier one does, but it's hecking expensive.

Does Lightwave smart socket provides realtime/historical consumption?

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 06:35 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I am looking at Lightwave smart sockets, but I cannot understand it they also record/provide the realtime and historical consumption of the device/s connected to the socket.

I cannot find this, it seems it can only power on/off.

    Thanks

    Control-4 switches with other hubs

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 01:56 PM PDT

So I recently bought a house with a control 4 system, which is only used to control some smart switches. The control4 hub is sometimes sketching out (gets stuck and won't reboot sometimes if the power goes out). I'd like to replace the hub and was wondering if there are hubs that would work with the existing control4 electronic dimmer switches. The model # on the switches is ldz-102, but as the hub isn't connected to the internet, they probably haven't been updated for at least 10 years.

    DIY Multi-zone dimmer modules

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 01:53 PM PDT

Wondering if there are any solid multi-zone dimmer modules, either DIN-rail or wallbox style that I can group 3-6 zones in a single unit as a DIY solution. Trying to reduce my component count on a large system for an existing house.

    Open to different protocols currently.
