    Disabled and Need Advice

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 05:39 PM PDT

I am virtually bedridden with chronic pain (I can get up in a power chair but it makes my pain much much worse). My mother who is my roommate is about to die. She is terminal and on hospice. She can still answer the door at the moment, but not for much longer. I need to get a video doorbell as well as a smart device to open the deadbolt. I have been looking online to see what my options are, but I'm getting overwhelmed by both # of options and price. I'm only 41 and do not want to have to go to a nursing home. I have a caregiver that comes 5 hours a day on weekdays. So everything else is taken care of except the door situation. I hate having to ask for help; I used to be so independent, before chronic pain. But I also suffer from anxiety/depression/PTSD and researching a video doorbell and smart deadbolt is giving me panic attacks, as my resources are limited, I only get $1200 a month from disability. I have a Macbook Pro (from when I was able to work for a living), a cheap android phone, and echo dot. Any advice on what to get, keeping price in mind, would be so helpful. I went from a contributing member of society to a drain on resources and it sucks so bad. I'm tearing up as I write this. Thanks for any advice. Be good to each other and stay safe.

    Exterior lighting for the inlaws

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 08:14 PM PDT

Inlaws have a two switches(three way) controling their exterior accent lights. They would like them to turn on automatically dusk till dawn. Instead of putting in a photocell and doing some rewiring I figured it may be easier Todo with some smart switches. Just wanting to see if there was some recommendations for a simple setup, ( app must easy to use for them ). The on/off needs to be based on light level or time of year / longitude.

    Wyze Camera on Samsung TV

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 08:13 PM PDT

I have wyze cameras in my house that I would like to be able to view on my TV. I was hoping to be able to use a phrase on Alexa in order to make this happen. I don't seem to see a way to do it. My TV is on Smartthings. Is this possible?

    Best complete DIY security solutions?

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 09:16 PM PDT

    Best all-in-one diy solution?

I'm so frustrated trying to find a diy system that does it all well. I'm really interested in DIY systems, but none of them from what I research seem to be great at everything. I currently started off trying to go cheap by getting these Wyze cams and Wyze sense sensors. I've had tons of headaches with them though being unreliable. Constantly disconnecting requiring resets. I guess you really do get what you pay for sometimes! Are there any systems that really do it all really well? I hate the idea of having some gadgets from Ring, some from Simplisafe, some from Nest, etc etc. That gets to be way too cumbersome and hard to keep track of. Thanks.

I have bought a cheapo IP camera, and wanted to avoid using their app V380 Pro.

I found a way to enable the RTSP and stream it to VLC or other custom usage.

Cheap rechargeable doorbell transmitter, 2+ receivers?

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 05:20 PM PDT

I can't find a single wireless doorbell that isn't either a $200+ AUD privacy invasion device or needs some specialty battery replaced every few months.

At this point i'm considering duct-taping a cheap android phone to my doorway.

Please tell their is a better solution.

MagicHome LED Bulbs won’t show up/connect in app

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 04:29 AM PDT

Hey there. I know this has been asked a few times but i've tried everything in the other apps and they don't work. We connect to the bulb in our wifi network, then when we open the app nothing is there. We've turned off mobile data, bluetooth, enabled airplane mode etc. We're also doing it right next to the router with the bulb plugged in and on, but nothing shows up.

The maddening thing is that we got it working with one bulb RANDOMLY, but can't recreate it or get another connected. We've tried on two different ios devices and this app just seems like unusable garbage at this point.

Does anyone have a fix, or are there any other apps we can connect these bulbs to??

Anyone rig an “occupied chair” sensor

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 12:17 PM PDT

My office is in the basement. I have setup the lights to work with a z-wave motion sensor but I'd like the lights to remain on when I'm in my office chair. Does anyone have any thoughts how I could make something like that work?

(Note: moving the motion sensor to my desk would negate its usefulness since it faces the stairs and my desk is around the corner. )

Is there any alternative to control xiaomi air purifier instad of mi home?

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 05:42 PM PDT

I was always annoyed that mi home for some fishy reason required to be connected to my home wifi all the time to control the purifier. I dont see any reason for that, but maybe Im wrong. Is there a possibility to control it via some alternative? I found yeti but it seems abandoned. If there is a way to control it via pc with wifi It would be amazing.

I was seriously thinking about taking it all apart and put manual switch there to regulate how fast is it spinning :D

I would really appreciate your help

    3v switch

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 04:40 PM PDT

I have several lights sets that are powered by 2x 1.5v batteries. Is there anyway I can control these or is there even a way to power them via electricity? With electric I can just stick a WiFi plug on them.

    Smart non-TRV radiator valves

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 12:06 PM PDT

    Hi,

I bought a few TuYa TRV radiator valves recently that work fine on my TRV radiators. However, I also have a few radiators with non-TRV/manual valves that I'd like to be able to control automatically.

I haven't really had any luck searching for them but I hope someone here knows a device that fits on these valves, without having to build something custom. Even just being able to open/close the valves would work for me as I have seperate temperature sensors in the same rooms.

The valve looks like this: https://imgur.com/a/jDEbaGS
The knob looks like this: https://imgur.com/a/upVoRRz

    Thanks!

Best brands for cheap RGB light bulbs? Around the $15 mark

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 03:40 PM PDT

So I bought a new Wi-Fi smart light bulb from NGS and it works well until it disconnects itself. It's a shame because when it's connected works great and makes a very good light but it disconnects literally 10 times a day, sometimes for a brief time, sometimes I have to wait an hour.

Turning it off and on, for some reason, doesn't make it hook up to Wi-Fi again. I've had it for two or three days and I'm already completely tired of it and thinking about returning it.

I don't think it's anything related to my network. I only have five smart devices plugged to my wifi and the total devices doesn't exceed ~20 adding ethernet and wifi.

It's also not far from the router, around six meters (20 ft). It's also the only and single device that disconnects from the network in the whole house, it has its own app, which is some kind of Smart Life API because it's literally the same exact app under a different name.

It also takes three or four attempts to link. It just stops responding to literally everything from time to time and it makes me sad. I am not sure if the NGS bulbs are crap or if it's just a faulty one.

So, that said, what are the best brands for cheap RGB light bulbs? Since it's for a bed lamp I need it to be E14 (small screwy thing) and there are some brands for that price range: Avatar, Moko, Lohas, LVWIT... Which one is trustable?

    Zigbee stability

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 10:09 AM PDT

My zigbee setup is an unstable pain in the back and I wonder if it is something to be expected.

Here are some numbers: - ~35 "active" (a.k.a. mains-powered) devices - ~10 "sleepy" (sensors with battery) devices - all within ~10x10m space with max distance between closest active deivices of ~2-3 m - various brands: hue, tradfri, osram, aquara - small apartment building in a residential area (<50 apartments/houses within 100m radius) - raspbee/deconz as coordinator

It works, mostly. But 2-5% of the commands to the devices fail due to unknown reasons. It doesn't look that much, but every now and then no lights in the toilet or one of the 8 bulbs in the bedroom remaining at full blast when you go to bed is annoying.

There is no clear correlation between failures and location, it could very well be one lamp in a dense (~<20cm) group within couple of meters from the coordinator.

I wanted to try other coordinators, but I haven't found one supporting sending OnWithTimedOff command. Except, maybe, zigpy, but it relies on homeassistant, which is a completely different can of worms. (I need the command because some devices must not get stuck in "on" state and the chance of separate "off" command failing is way too high).

And now I wonder, is it what one should expect with zigbee? Is it a bug in the way deconz does routing? Is it an angry neighbour or a secret radar disguised as a school playground nearby jamming the signal?

    What are your experiences?

(PS: not sure if the flair should be zigbee or question...)

I have a eufy and it rolls hair so much that the specific comportment needs a new part after 2-3 cleans. This isn't sustainable. Any better options or suggestions? I have a 600sq ft apt with all wood floor.

    Caseta with With Retrofit Downlights

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 11:20 AM PDT

I know there've been lots of threads about which LED bulbs and retrofit downlights are compatible with the Caseta. I've looked at Lutron's compatibility guide, but there seem to be lots of bulbs that have been recommended here that are not listed as being compatible by Lutron.

Can anyone recommend retrofits that work well with Caseta, regardless of whether they are officially listed as compatible or not?

I assume Lutron just doesn't update its compatibility guide very often?

Add AirPlay to RCA Audio Inputs

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 10:43 AM PDT

Apologies if this is basic, but I don't know anything about audio. My new home has an outdoor sound system with these. I'd like to stream via AirPlay, probably using Home Assistant running on a Pi. What components do I need in between? Just an amplifier, or would the Pi need to plug in to a receiver? Is there a reason the 4x4 RCA jacks are separate? Thank you!

    Shelly 1 Light Install

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 10:33 AM PDT

    Hello,

Does anyone have any good guides on how to install a shelly 1 to a light switch in order to control the lights via wifi.

Also, from diagrams I have seen it looks like you need extra wire, so what type of wire (gauge, etc) do I need to complete this project? (I am under the assumption that I will need more wire than what is connected to the switches so correct me if I am wrong.) If anyone has any good recommendations of what wire to get (and could link them) that would be great.)

I am just trying to learn so anything is helpful :)

    Thanks!

Anyone got a Connexis L1. Im having trouble setting it up

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 08:49 AM PDT

Ive had a connexis L1 fitted on wednesday by a door fitter. I really dont think he knew what he was doing as the master card wont work but anyway.

I paired it to my phone fine and my phone works fine with it, the tag the guy gave my wife works fine. I just bought 5 tags today for famlily members and I cant get any to pair. As soo as I get to the point where it asks to wake up the door it just stays blue and times out eventually. Ive tried with it open, shut locked unlocked but It wont do anything.

The really helpful yale website just says "make sure there is only one primary user" but I cant see anywhere you check this.

Last resort is starting fresh from scratch but Ive no idea how to do that either as he fitted it.

    any help would be appriciated.
